Honestly, I would love an animated movie about a demon who goes on a dark adventure with Don Bluth style art and being rated R.

Success in this determines your social status and place in the hierarchy. MC is a rather mediocre demon that finally hits rock bottom after a string of failures and ends up kicked out of hell. Now stuck on Earth, he must cheat and scam his way back into being a respectable demon and earn his way back home. This becomes an uphill battle as his already pitiful powers are further diminished by his exile, meaning he must pull all kinds of improvisation as little more than a human in order to fulfill his end of the deal, often with the help of human friends he makes along the way (who are a mix of scammers and bullshit artists who he learns from, and well intentioned idiots, at least one of each). If you want more plot than episodic stuff then gradually the MC grows more confident and efficient, and other demons start giving him the time of day occasionally, opening other plots..I imagine something somewhat on the lines of Ed Edd n Eddy with even more of a focus on scams.
Something like Splatterhouse 2010 where a guy gets possessed by a demon and uses his new supernatural strength and powers to kill other demons.

If I was to do a story about demons, I would make the demons as the representation of humanity at their most raw and excessive, the worst parts of humanity made manifest. Not that they cause the worst parts of humanity, but they ARE the darkest worst parts of the human psyche.I mean I also have a story where Earth is a test of free will, with hell being the variable factor of what sin can do to free will but it's not that deep.
