which is better /co/?
transformers obviously
>>143324835Transformers is a better GI Joe movie and GI Joe is a better Transformers movie.
>>143324835Rainbow Brite
>>143324835I think Joe's got the better movie, but Transformers got the more iconic one.
>>143324835>IRON BIRDS OF FORTUNE, ADRIFT ABOVE THE SKIES
>>143325943Nice
>>143324835Is it the Joe movie with Serpentor and Cobra Commander is a snakeman?Transformers, easily.
>>143326272CobraLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLa
>>143325689I love them both and would struggle to choose one or the other, but Transformers is undeniably more iconic and well known. GI Joe going direct to video means it wasn't seen by as many people, and it remains controversial and underappreciated by the Joe fanbase, while despite the controversy of some of the deaths, Transformers fandom largely loves the movie.>>143325816Strong contender for the greatest animated movie soundtrack? I wonder if GI Joe would have had something similar if they'd stuck to the original plan for a cinematic release.
>>143326280That also has to do with the Sunbow G.I.Joe just not being as big as the comic in the fanbase.
>>143326719Sadly yes. It's been seen by a much wider audience than ever saw the comics, but the hardcore fanbase that's kept Joe alive over the decades is much more all about the comics.I love those comics, but I also love the cartoon, and wish the fandom appreciated it as much.
>>143326940A part of me is kinda glad that it didn't. Mostly because I think the Transformers movie might have had some rather negative impact on how people remember the cartoon.
>>143324835>both made by the FotNS 86 team>GI JOE got c•ucked by censorship
The Transformers Movie presents great, but if you stop and think about the plot for ONE millisecond it completely falls apart. Most of its plot details didn't get explained until season 3 of the cartoon.
>>143325943>C4 VetteMildly related, but I'm a bit surprised they never turned the C4 into a Transformer.
>>143328102It wasn't "censorship", it was Hasbro reacting to the controversy of the deaths in Transformers, and belatedly figuring out killing characters kids were attached to was maybe not such a good idea, but figuring it out too late in production to change anything but some of the dialogue. I'm not going to resent an animated movie for kids ending on a happy note instead of a massive downer.
>>143328160Would just killing Duke been nearly as contencious as how many characters died in the Transformers movie?
>>143328367After the fallout, they probably didn't want to take the chance
>>143328382Yeah, probably not, but not a risk worth taking either.
>>143328367Don't forget, TFTM starts off with the genocide of a whole planet's population.Didn't fuck around.
>>143328367I don't think you understand how outright traumatizing that movie was to kids. I went to see it opening day and by the time Prime died the theater went from being mostly full to a ghost town. Young kids were losing their minds at the carnage.
>>143328367No because if he died it would have been a somewhat heroic death saving his half-brother. Almost all of the Autobots died like dogs. Red Alert the doctor? Three to the chest. Ironhide the aggressive guy who helps the MCs a lot? Executed point blank. Wheeljack the funny scientist character whose inventions blow up in his face for comedic effect? Hole in his chest. Anyone else that you didn't see that was from S1? Assumed dead, no closure.
>>143328482Yeah, I know how sad kids got over Optimus and most of the Season 1 guys dying.I'm more asking if they would have been as sad about Duke's death since I think he was the only one who was planned to die.
>>143328487and now WATCH IT AGAIN
>>143328487G1 Red Alert wasn't a doctor, he was a security guy. Him being a medic was a Unicron Trilogy thing.
>YOU'VE GOT THE TOUCH, YOU'VE GOT THE POOOWER
>>143328520Prowl was the kicker. You watched his eyes turn off and smoke come out of his mouth and started to think, "wait, that looks like he died."By the time Ironhide is getting his head blown off, you're realizing shit's real.
>>143328534yeah your right I meant Ratchet
>>143328516Cobra Commander losing his mind was freaky enough
>>143324835Transformers and it’s not even close
>>143325816I feel like this movie, this very scene even, really changed the perception of the Decepticons for the decades to come. They were just goofy saturday morning villains in the show. Then suddenly they're massacring heroes left and right. It's definitely how fans-turned-writers chose to remember them.
People dont talk about the GI JOE movie for some reason
>>143328590not me I'll still remember them for this shit
>>143328160>>143328516In hindsight the fact that they died like that is probably part of why it's so loved. Like unironically, yeah they cried and yeah it shook them up but the generation who grew up with Optimus as a surrogate father figure basically had the safest and most stable possible introduction to the fact that Death was a thing and it could happen to anyone you knew at any time, even things that were constants in your life.Kids cried, sobbed, and hurt, and then their parents got them home and told them it was alright and got them settled down but the unintended message definitely stuck. Unironically probably has a lot more legitimate artistic value than most sundance shit pumped out every year trying to be deep just from that.
