The only thing that makes sense is if she saved him with the light powers and now that her powers activated she is official a mutant now. Clearly they cut that shit. I find pretty funny that feige ordered this to happen for the MCU and the movies/show bombed so hard that they had to swerve away from those powers. Now she is a mutant literally just for the sake of it.
