Watched this for the first time since it came out in 2013. Honestly quite better than I remembered. Character dynamics are good, action scenes are fun, plot is simple and to the point. The villain still sucks, though, and there’s too much focus on Thor’s human sidekicks. Overall a 7,5/10, it really doesn’t deserve its reputation as one of the worst MCU outings.

Zamniphobic chudoid! Don't you know this movie almost DESTROYED the mcu and the only reason Thor is good is because of BASED and FUNNY sneedka wafeedfeed?
>>
>>143321434
In English, schizo.
>>
>>143321107
It might have been a low point for the MCU when it was released, but there have been worse since, yeah.

I liked the first two Thor movies. They weren’t perfect, but they captured something about the character and his world that other MCU movies with Thor in them didn’t.
>>
>the villain still sucks
Holy shit hard agree.
Fucking DARK ELVES

Compared to modern MCU movies/shows, Thor the Dark World is Citizen Kane
>>
>>143321107
Love and Thunder being the modern Batman & Robin make this film much better in hindsight.
It's good when the character actually take the situation around them seriously

>Love and Thunder being the modern Batman & Robin

You're trying way too hard.
>>
>>143321560
You're right Batman and Robin at the very least was a fun movie, Love and Thunder is terrible and not even entertaining
>>
>>143321560
>fourth movie
>bringing back the director from the third, which was lighter affair that brought new life into the series
>now the comedy and campiness goes overboard
>the tone doesn't fit a story about the hero dealing with someone close to him at death's door
> bald antagonist with an unnatural skin color is also going through a similiar struggle as the hero
>>
>>143321107
No it's a snoozefest, I almost fell asleep watching it. I'll give the studio props for good costume design though

How did I not see this before?

I like the scenes that take place in the non-Midgard realms and Asgard is pretty. I wish that the whole movie is about Thor, the Warriors Three, and Sif fighting Malekith's forces throughout the Nine Realms. Jane Foster could be the audience surrogate.

Imagine the lack of self-reflection it would take to not realize you're making yourself look significantly worse than your intended targets

Agreed.

DARK WORLD

Cons!
> Comedy interrupts the end battle too much altho not half as bad as Ragnarok.
> Malekith is unquestionably the weakest Mcu villain up to Endgame and doesn't even have a cool or faithful design.
> Thor throwing the flimsy science poles at Malekith at the end looked silly.
> Not much done with Portman or the romance.

Pros!
> Thor's outfit is much better then his suits in Thor1 or Avengers1.
> More for Heimdall to do.
> Loki is fun as always and got more to do here then he did in Ragnarok.
> Kurse is cool looking and fairly menacing, him beating Thor into the ground was fairly brutal.
> Final battle is fairly creative with the portals.
> Frigga's death & funeral is great. Score is beautiful. Thor's reaction to her death, blasting Malekith's face with Lightning was great.
> A little bit more for Sif & the warriors 3 to do.
> Showed us more of Asgard, their technology and history.
> Flashbacks to Odin's father Bor should have been longer but were cool none the less and Bor was perfectly cast.

Literally every single piece of concept art for him was vastly better than what we got. Incompetent ass fucks.

I will never understand why people liked Loki.
In every single one of his appearances from the first Thor movies to his own boring show he's more annoying and whiny than fun or threatening.

It's funny, the reason people hate it so much is just normal shit that happens in every MCU movie now
>Hero constantly getting clowned on
>shallow villains who die at the end
>Mindless CGI spectacles
>Random character deaths for cheap pathos
>constant quips undercutting serious moments (every Darcy scene was just the unfunniest thing)
>Entire movie only exists to promote another sequel down the line
Otherwise it really wasn't that bad.
I'm still not sure how Ragnarok brainwashed so many people into thinking that turning Thor into a parody of itself or a worse Guardians of the Galaxy was the right move but here we are.
>>
>>143323587
>Hero constantly getting clowned on

Thor wasn't "clowned on" at all in the movie, unless you're enough of a bitch to consider that scene of him and Malekith falling down the building some terrible humiliation ritual.
>>
>>143323616
Is that really all you got from my post? Anyway you're right. Dark World actually treated Thor with respect I just got it mixed up with all the bad jokes.
>>
>>143321107
It was boring and forgettable. The new movies being shit doesn't change that.
>>
>>143321107
It's a very by the numbers 80s-90s style scifi action movie where it starts out really cool. Scifi action hero does cool scifi action stuff, then he lands on Earth and the other 90% of the movie is scifi action guy fucking around on Earth being fascinated with mundane earth shit, hangs out with boring Earth people and makes friends. Then the final 10 minutes of the movie is back to cool scif action shit.

They have done this too damn many times. The only way this movie is different is that it took place in a desert town instead of the usual midwestern suburb.
>>
>>143321107
Dark World is superior to everything else MCU ha done since 2019.

I thought the costume design for the Dark Elves was pretty fucking rad. Thor's problem in general was starting out (oh we're not gods, just aliens) and then backpedaling on that in later installments where scripts couldn't decide what the fuck magic was
>>
>>143321107
Honestly none of the Marvel MCU movies leafing up to Endgame were just flat out bad. Some were better than others. The funny thing is that despite all the praise Ragnarok received on release, it was a sign of things to come, with things feeling cheap and overly quippy.
>>
>>143323587
>It's funny, the reason people hate it so much is just normal shit that happens in every MCU movie now
It gets the most flack because it's the most boring and unmemorable of the (pre-Endgame)MCU movies. When you compare it to the other Phase 2 movies it's obvious that it had the least redeeming or notable qualities.
>Cap 2- Memorable villains, cool action scenes, doesn't have constant quips undercutting serious moments
>GOTG- the comedy doesn't feel like it's only there because they had to fill a quip quota like the other MCU movies
>Avengers 2- Hulkbuster vs Hulk fan service, has the obvious appeal of your typical superhero crossover
>Iron Man 3- Iron-Suit porn, RDJ's charisma, visually interesting final battle
>Ant Man- Ant-Man's first cinematic debut, the cinematic perspective of shrinking and growing, Paul Rudd
>Thor 2- Loki comes back I guess
So even though movies like Ant Man and Avengers 2 were also bad, they're still more memorable

>turning Thor into a parody of itself
He wasn't catching. When Thor and Loki didn't click as a pair dynamic, they had to reverse course on his image immediately. I don't know the exact details, but that much is obvious.
>>
>>143323517
That's upsetting
>>
>>143325624
>>>Ant Man- Ant-Man's first cinematic debut, the cinematic perspective of shrinking and growing, Paul Rudd
Respectfully, I strongly disagree. Ant-Man was far from a good movie. I think Hank and Hope carried it and even then they didn't do too much.
>>
Why is Eccelsen such a whiny actor that self-blacklisted?
>>
>>143327644
The bottom of my post literally said the movie was actually bad, but still more memorable than Thor 2
>>
>>143327644
>>143327783
I think Ant-Man is solid and highly rewatchable, worst I can say is that is a normal origin story but then again its script is a mesh of the pre-MCU draft, that and Wright's version would have looked even better. The Scott/Hank dynamic was great so was the father and daughter moments with Cassie.
