Why is it everytime a character gets high in this comic is through vaping?Why do they make such a big deal about a character getting stoned?Does Jeph really have nothing but character gets stoned/drunk/horny and sometimes setting up romantic couples then going back to the shlocky slice of life?Nobody really seems to have goals. You spend 50 pages on someone having "le anxiety" about the job they want, they get it then it's never really mentioned again except in dialogue?

It's just that she went from "trying to become an entry level librarian/archivist" to "master data manager for the wackiest science institution on the planet."Otherwise, yes, by and large everyone else is either a small business owner with no evident aspirations for significant change, or "I dunno, lol." Some characters have had goals, but they either get subverted (Clinton pursuing Brun, ending up with the Emotional Void), or handed to them on a silver fucking platter (Claire, Roko's robot rights plot, May, probably a couple more). Literally the only character with an evident goal right now is Marten, which great for him after a half dozen separate comic moments of him wondering what to do with himself, but it's... opening a coffee shop, which is more lukewarm than a 3 hour old latte.Metagaming, it's of course hard not to notice that Jeph himself was a 20something with no evident aspirations before lucking into making stupid money drawing comics for an hour a day, and every time he sets a goal it's either half assed or he flakes on it. Except that music album, I guess. Still though, hard not to see him in the failings of his creations.

Marten isn't going to turn 40, even if it's been 20 years of him being in his 20s.
