I've only ever had "sushi" from Chinese buffets and it's always tasted delicious. My favorite is the deep fried roll or the ones that have fish eggs because of the pop. Is real sushi any better or is it all the same shit?

For one, the rice is seasoned with sugar, vinegar and sake so it takes on a distinct flavor. The fish, also often has a thin marinade or pre treatment too, its not just straight up raw. Look at Jiro dreams of sushi, he uses a little paint brush to brush some concoction on the fish. Also, just fish and rice is only one type of sushi, you can get rolls that have nori, avocado, bbq (cooked) eel, tempura shrimp, deep fried soft shell crab, etc. Ton of things you can do with it. My jap gf in college brought this roll she made to my dorm out of the blue that had a small sliver of mango in it in addition to the other stuff and it was bangin
