Why is it so overrated?
>>
southern pride plus buying shit is my identity and they spend tons of advertising
>>
>>20423746
all i know is that primark sell tshirts with it on and theres a funny painting of dogs playing cards and drinking it.
>>
>>20423746
Successful marketing
>>
When you first start buying your own alcohol you want to have something decent. This is usually middle of the shelf and cheapish. Gets the job done. You can tell everyone that you drink whiskey and people will be fine with it. If you go for vodka first people will act like you are crazy or trashy. If you do gin people think you are pretentious. If you go for sake you are a weeb. It is just an ez choice
>>
>>20423746
Nobody drinks enough cheap whisky to know what the difference between Old Grandad and Old Forester is let alone Jack Daniels vs anything else.
>>
>>20423746
Is it? I don't know of anyone that says it's great, just that it's ubiquitous.
>>
I'd prefer Jim Beam over Jack Daniels when it comes to cheap whiskeys
>>
>>20423769
This. The marketing is build directly into the product. The simple black label with white text evokes a sense of manly stoicism. The subtle scroll flourishes on the border gives it an air of distinction, and sophistication. The square shape gives the bottle a wide face with which to present its label to you like a billboard on the shelf. Other round bottles may be placed askew on the shelf obscuring their label, but only a retard could mess up the orientation when placing a square bottle on a shelf.
>>
Black label looks classier than Beam's white label. Thats probably the jist of it.
>>
>>20423789
>round bottles may be placed askew on the shelf obscuring their label, but only a retard could mess up the orientation when placing a square bottle on a shelf.
You clearly have never been inside a Walmart.
>>
>>20424063
Are Walmart's not staffed by retards?
>>
Fuck, now I want some Jack Daniels. It just tastes good.
>>
>>20424085
>Are Walmarts not staffed by retards?
Each Walmart is staffed by a highly curated team of experts who are trained in their area expertise. When a member of the team desires to develop a mastery of their chosen field, they are introduced to what are called "Sam's Modules," which are computer courses designed and created by Sam Walton himself, to help boost each and every staff member to the highest level possible. All this was done because we do not believe that unions have a place in the American workplace. Unions are a creation of socialists, and we haven't forgotten about what socialists (BLM and Antifa) have been up to for the last decade, have we?
Do we need that kind of anarchy and chaos?
Absolutely not. Thank you, and have a good night.
>>
>>20423746
Country music probably. I never liked whiskey though. Only liquor I like is brandy.
>>
>>20423781
Evan Williams and Makers are both better and around the same price.
>>
>>20423746
Advertising. That's all.
>>
>>20424909
This. People shit on makers for being overhypes buts just a nice smooth and fat whiskey, absolutely perfect party booze
>>
Do Amerians really believe this is anything more than bottom shelf?
>>
>>20426237
>Do Amerians really believe this is anything more than bottom shelf?
It's only teenagers and single women who work at walmart in their 50s as cashiers who drink it
>>
>>20423770
I started drinking gin at 13, it's not pretentious.
>>
>>20426237
It's not bottom shelf, but you can do better for the same price

It had a successful marketing campaign 50 years ago where the name became synonymous with whiskey, simply by sponsoring every biker meet and southern sports event. Despite the huge corporate marketing dollars backing it, customers still perceived it as a humble no-frills local brewery thanks to the label. It's like something you'd see on the shelf in a saloon in 1910. If its good enough for your grandpappy then it's good enough for you

And regional whiskey quality was generally a crapshoot, Jack Daniels at least established a consistent quality in the same way Budweiser did.

I've got the opportunity to purchase a $330 bottle of bourbon that I can sell second hand for $650-900. Would you keep it in the chance it'll increase in value in the future? Keep it and drink it? Or just resell now while the bourbon market still exists?

Latched onto by ostentatious testosterone-performative types. "If I drink it I'll be badass and art of manliness".

>>
jack daniels has a distinctive taste that sets it apart, i don't know what it is, maybe the charcoal filtering. it's enjoyable to drink neat. i don't see it in the same league as something like jim beam which is best described as generic
>>
>>20427819
Jim beam is super fucking generic
One step up from bottom shelf
It's young, it tastes young, but it's cheap, it has a little bit of that beam peanutty thing, but very forgettable generic cheap bourbon taste

Anything JD that's not black label is actually really good. They really just fucked up when they watered black down to 80

Gin is hardly pretentious, it's just vodka with flavour, some pretty drinkable. Anyone who buys "top shelf" vodka is a worthless cunt. You are paying for the bottle and bragging rights and literally nothing more, whisky at least has difference in quality you can taste

Many, not most, but damn close, use gin as a base spirit. The juniper and botanicals mesh with citrus well, and is easily improved with a bittering spirit. Try a gin gimlet. It's easy; 2.5oz dry gin, .5oz fresh lime juice, .5oz simple syrup, shake and strain.

Delicious!
>>
>>20428466
I would rather have 12 $100 bottles of bourbon. I imagine the difference in quality from a $100 bottle to this is not as great as you think. Shit like this is almost as retarded as Louis XIII cognac for $4300.
>>
>>20429300
Well it's not super easy to sell it for that price, I'm thinking more realistic to sell it local is more likely to see ~$700-900. And I've gotta pay $330 for it to start, so that's ~$300-600 profit.
>>
>>20423770
>middle of the shelf and cheapish
It's bottom shelf, and frequently a house spirit.

>>20429300
The best whisky I've ever had was like 3k a bottle (Indie CS 30y/o Springbank). Honestly it's like 5 or 10% better than $100 bottles.
And there's a lot of worse shite out there bottled at 40ish% for 10x as much.
>>
>>20423746
Well damn, it's not that bad. Mostly based on one hell of a marketing campaign, but it's drinkable.
>>
>>20423746
it's slightly better than jim beam, but beam is almost always 20% cheaper and when you're a broke loser, all those extra dollars add up each month. I havn't had the balls to try ballentine's, old grampa, or any of the other bottom shelf shit. beam is about as low as I'll go even in the bleakest of times. Trader joes has wild turkey 100 for 20 bucks rn and that's been good to me.
>>
>all these pretentious fags itt pretending to care about / like the flavor of liquor
lmao, lmfao even. all liquor with an alc % > 20% tastes like shit. You know it, I know it, we all know it. Yes, some tastes less shit than others, but that's usually with regards to vodka tasting better than whiskey, or gin tasting better than scotch, etc. Within the same family of liquor you're fucking retarded if you're really caring about something that tastes like poop, tasting maybe 5% less like poop.

Alcohol is for getting drunk. Get something mid-range, take a shot, and chase it with an actually good tasting beverage (soda).

Fucking alcohol always brings out the "hurr durr I'm a sophisticated adult because I'm an expert at drinking and tasting alcohol hurr durr". Pathetic cringe.

This is the only real answer. It was considered low quality in the US in the 60s, but some influencial British rock bands became vocal fans of it because it was a novelty when they visited the US. American rock bands started copying them and Jack became even more popular. It was like the official drink of rock bands and it had a certain cache because of that. Rock is basically dead and zoomers like whatever rappers like now, so JD isn't really popular with anyone but poors and rednecks now like it used to be.

I don't understand how people can stomach shit like Jack Daniels. No one would drink this shit if ''Jack Daniels'' didn't sound like some cool Western name. You actually drink it and it has this slimy oily texture and tastes like lipstick, just straight up lipstick. It doesn't taste like whiskey at all, just this strong fatty chemical taste. Compare it to any regular whiskey and it's just baffling. Regular whiskey has the consistency of water and has a strong taste of alcohol and muh notes come after that. Jack Daniels hits you with the oily lipstick taste and texture and when you swallow it lingers in your throat like the fat is coating your entire mouth and throat.
>>
>>20440967
I'm surprised no one has tested how much extra microplastics/nanoplastics/forever chemicals leach out from plastic jugs and bottles when they contain alcohol. It's gotta be several orders of magnitude greater.

Plain neutral-pH water in plastic bottles already has a shit ton as it is.
>>
>>20441182

>>
>>20440941
750ml is only 25 oz. keep your pours to 1/2 oz and you can pour it 50 times. if you only pour it once every other month you get years of use per bottle. sure some stuff you will want to pour more often but if you do it only 1 oz every 3 months you should average about one bottle per every 3 years. get some mid shelf "guard bottles" and put them at the front of your storage to keep you out of the good shit outside special occasions.

$27 here, though it is allocated, so only available during a monthly allocated release day (for me it's the 2nd Sunday or Saturday of the month depending on which month)

That's 750mL. A half gallon is 1.5 liters. 30 bucks used to get you double that.

Yeah and Yamazaki 18 used to be $100/bottle.

Times change.

This is how it actually works, which is arguably worse. But liquor can actually taste good in some instances so you're still wrong

Is that a bowfish what the fuck is that? Aint no big ass sharks on that inland ass area look at it, theyre by the deep to shallow where baitfish thrive on vegetation and can live in the cool deep.

Ballyhoo are way better shark/sailfish bait peasant, sailfish especially like live bait trolled slow. You even know how to tie a mono to flouro leader? That shit isnt even smelly, use blue runners as peak shark bait, oily and use heavy braid and ~300 steel leader with a circle hook ofc.

Why is jack the best for jack and coke? Bourbon is way too thick. Even beer to chase im doing jack.

I havent tried but you think itll make a good redneck au poivre? I reckon itll do best with blackened strip get on the cajun train you porch monkeys.
