>>4786664Eyy lil donnie
My cat and I have recently started a new routine and now after every meal he will come to my room and ask to be put onto my bed to nap since he's too old to jump up there by himself anymoreIt's precious
>>4786837Mine forgets about my existence except flwhen it's time to eat
>>4786897Oh he does that too. The only time I'm relevant to his existance is when he's hungry, when he wants to nap on my bed and when he wants to cuddle when I go to bed
>>4786837I absolutely love him, please give him all the hugs and pats and food in the world. My kot is almost 15 years old and she's still sprintly, meows a lot, jumps up to our beds and even hangs out in the roof doing I don't even know what.

is it possible for a cat to pass away just from the pain of a badly fractured leg during recovery
>>4787450Oof, good luck. I went traveling with my cat once and I think we kept a leash and harness on her for like a week straight.
>>4787527Fuck, it sounds horrible but maybe it's probable. I can imagine it passing away from the shock and pain during the injury, but after... I don't know. It can definitely pass away from blood loss if the injury was really bad, but if you got the cat to the vet ASAP and it was given anesthesia, I doubt so. But I'm no expert.
After a long day of rocket league
this is my kot, she is 18 years old and will scream if not fed at 8am sharp
>>4787596Is that a filter, her eyes are so pretty :o
>>4787597nope, she's just always looked like that
>>4787561she was given anesthesia and surgery to set the leg and pain killers after too but those things wear off in a few hours maybe it was something internal she passed away on the second day last few hours she was wailing and looked desolate but i thought its just a leg
>>4787595sleepy>>4787596>>4787609Woah, beautiful eyes in this kot. They look like gemstones, enchanting!>>4787624Maybe there was some other damage in another area of the body that wasn't noticed, but kots and dogs are more feeble than us when faced with traumatic injuries, aka broken bones, broken spine, etc. If she was an older cat it could also explain why she didn't have enough strength to survive the injury. I'm so sorry for your loss anon, even in humans sometimes it's really difficult to get the exact reason for a death. Sometimes the same anesthesia or pain meds can accelerate death, I don't know the exact mechanism but there's a lot of stuff involved.
Not a regular here. Just found a feral(?) kitty after 2 or so days of it meowing in my backyard (the little guy hid well). It hid in a spot where it's cornered and it looks like it hasn't eaten in days.I'm no cat owner, so I did the bare minimum of leaving some water, cat food and a box small enough for it. I gave it some space since, naturally, the little guy doesn't trust me and spends several hours a day calling for its mom(?).So, I would like to ask for some advice from people with more experience. Am I doing this right? Should I be careful with what I feed it? I don't plan on keeping it, just keeping it safe and fed until I can find it a new home.
>>4787646Forgot to mention. I left it alone for now. I can still hear it meowing from a distance but I'm hoping that it'll eventually stop and find the food and water I left behind.
>>4787639she was only 4 yrs old i keep wondering if i asked them to just amputate maybe there would have been less agony the bone literally snapped in two
>>4787646Please try to get a picture of the kitten, the age of the cat is going to determine what to feed and if they will be fine. Young kittens generally can not go a few days without care.
>>4787646I'd say try luring it inside with some cat food or meat, probably the smell of fresh meat will attract it's attention better than just cat food. Doing sounds like "tsktsktsk" will get it's attention too, and try to crouch or lower your body posture so that you'll scare it less. I'd say don't give it milk unless it's super mega small, since cats are ironically lactose intolerant. Water, food and a warm space should be the priority. You could contact a veterinary or some local pet/animal association and offer it to a home. Or maybe you can keep the lil' fellow if you want, cats are certainly not as demanding as dogs or other pets in terms of play and activities. >>4787653Shit... I'm really really sorry. God, that sounds horrible. Honestly I think the best outcome for her was for this to end quickly, amputating a whole limb is still incredibly painful. And there's phantom limb pains and stuff... I'd ask how it happened but I don't want to stress you, anon. I'm really sorry for your loss. At least know that you and the vets did everything you could.
>>4787530Found her in a very obvious place I kept overlooking, I'm so happy
>>4787730I will do so once I see it again.>>4787734I don't plan on keeping but I am fortunate enough to live right next to a pet store and I plan on getting some phone numbers if I can't find someone to adopt it. The goal for now is just to give it a space with food and water and see if I can gain its trust.
>>4787772It's been pretty difficult to find this cat. It keeps running away to some unknown part of my backyard yet I can still hear its cries.
>>4787766THANK GOD, oof. Poor kitty, almost giving you a heart attack. >>4787772Amazing, seems like that kot is in good hands. I don't know how to take care of baby kittens, but if it can easily escape you and hide then it might be old enough to be weaned or at least be fed hard food + milk. >>4787818Maybe luring it with sounds or a stick can help?
>>4787846Luring it hasn't been working out. I tried talking camly and using food but the cat just won't move. It always stays in its hiding spot and occasionally cries.I changed my approach a bit. It's getting dark and I turned on one of the lights while placing two bowls of water and a bit of milk under it, so it's easily visible. My main concern isn't the cat not trusting me but how it might not be feeding itself.
>>4787766Cats are masters of hiding, whenever I take my cat somewhere new he always figures out a corner to hide in where I'll have to look forever to find him. I've found him inside cabinet drawers, behind and under couches, between curtains, behind and under beds, inside wardrobers, on top of chairs, under blankets, etc.
>/cat/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHakm25yMZo&t=0s
>>4787859Frick... The best you can do for now is try to wait and just stay around the area as much as you can during the day, eventually the kitten will see that you're not a threat, I hope. You should try putting the bowl of food closer to where it's hiding location is, and slowly get it closer to the house as the days or hours go by. Eventually it'll start to eat and get hungry, it'll surely look for food soon.
>>4787909I'll do that. I also arranged the bowls in such a way that I'll know if it touched the food or not. Really, if the kitty is feeding itself and isn't injured, it shouldn't be a huge problem.Another thing that I noticed is the meowing. Last night it started at around 22 and continued all the way to 2AM. I want to see if it will calm down tonight. I dunno if cats just instinctively know when to stop meowing to avoid dehydration.
Speaking of cat races I think Chai is a Norwegian forest cat but she loves roti, paratha, kulfi, lassi, paneer, and samosas. She won't eat beef either. Is she actually a pajeeta? If so how do I honor her heritage?

>Went to vet yesterday>confirmed we should look at booking at date to put little old lady cat to sleepNot ready for this /kot/. Wife got me cat-pilled, and we have two more alongside this one, but our oldest is bonded to this one and I'm worried if anything will happen to him post grief. My wife would be destroyed if he passed away as well close after.pic of sweet little one just because I'm currently pretty upset at the prospect of having to say goodbye to her too, but at least we get to have some control over it and make sure she isn't suffering more than she currently is. I love this little freak like you wouldn't believe
>>4787964Cats are instinctively hiding creatures, they'll always find a crevice or safe space to hide from predators or possible dangers. If it was a small pup I'd be more worried, those can't protect theirselves as good as kittens do.And yeah... If the kitten's screaming that much it's probably calling for it's mom, maybe it got separated or the mom lost it. Poor baby. Eventually it'll look for food and water, and reach the food bowls, and you can try getting close to it there. Be patient anon, I'm sure it'll come to you soon!>>4787971indian cat indian cat indian cat>>4787974>>4787978beautiful boy very fluffyNow that I think I haven't posted my kot here yet, so here she is. She sleeps all day and I call her a narcoleptic cat, she just sleeps, snuggles with me and my family, and eats. She's living the life lmao
>>4788065>>4788264Fuck... Last year my ex lost a pet rabbit due to a tail infection, and even though he wasn't my pet, I felt just awful knowing the little bugger passed away just... Too fast. I managed to give his family money to put him to sleep, there was nothing else to do. Death is inevitable and it's sometimes cruel, sometimes a bit more peaceful. But the only thing we can do is always stay by our loved ones' side, even if we suffer by seeing them struggling... It's better for them to always know we'll be by their side. I don't want to imagine how it'll feel when the day comes when my kitty which is... Almost as old as my sibling, passes away. She's almost 15 and I... I can't imagine being without her. I do think it's good to... Give another homeless kitten or pet a home to live in, when you lose a beloved pet. It's not a replacement, I mean... There's so many wonderful animals out there that don't have anyone to look out for them. Knowing I can still do something to improve a lil' animal's life even after losing a best friend is almost a selfish comfort to me.Take it easy anons, I'm sure until the very end your kots knew/know you were there for them and loved them with all your heart.
Good news, I checked the food bowl today and the cat ate some of it. It also didn't hide from me when I saw it, so I took a pic from a distance as to not scare it. Leaving a single light on through the night worked out well too, it only meow'd a little bit at the beginning but it went quiet for the rest of the night. Its new hiding spot keeps it safe from rain and I can spot it easily, so that's cool. I spotted it in an easily visible place and avoided coming close as to not incentivize it to change locations. The next step is figuring out what to feed it. It ate the cat food but not a ton of it (maybe it's normal for its age?). I also haven't tried luring it with meat yet.
Why does she wake up looking so annoyed?

>>4788333Because she woke up
>>4788479Reminds me of when I had to bird sit for a few weeks. The cat was just glued to the cage 24/7. I had a cover for the cage when it was time to put him to bed and my cat would get up under the cover to keep looking at the bird, it was funny.
>>4788333Because she looks like royalty so you're her servant
>>4788302Feed him wet food, it's easier on kittens mouths and feed him churu, they love that
>>4788300yeah we rescued a cute little black cat about 7 years ago who was going to be abandoned and he's an absolutely sweetheart too.I love giving animals like those another chance at a good life personally.

I'm looking at getting a friend for my cat when I'm gone for the weekends in my 840sqft townhouse. My 3.5 year old has been a diva on her own, incredibly friendly and loves to be by my side at all times of the day and night. I take her on 0.1 mile walks to look at the birds outside my apartment. Still, I've got, like, four weekends between now and October that I'll have both Saturday and Sunday nights in my bed (otherwise, I'll be working from home). Should I adopt: Gertrude (left)>PetSmart via wagtopia>4 years, mother of several litters who've all been adopted>lived outside until recently trapped>beautiful medium-length hair>unsure of her behavior as she's been trapped behind a plastiglass screen the whole time>she's so pretty and gorgeousEvie (right)>Human Society care>2 years old>started meowing for me the second i walked into her aisle of the shelter>kept on pawing at me while I evaluated the other cats, wouldn't stay still for a picture

My cat has taken up the hobby of sitting on my desk and staring at the blank wall behind it, twitching his tail and occasionally swiping at the wall. There's no blemishes or holes or anything where he's looking, just white paint. What is up with that? The other side of the wall is the brick exterior of my building, is he hearing/smelling some kind of critter in there? Is my apartment haunted?

>>4788499That's wonderful, poor kot. Rescue kittens/cats or animals in general are the sweetest there could be. For some reason cats and dogs just flock to me even if they don't like other people. My cat had his shots about a week ago along with an intensive ear cleaning/antibiotic application and I'm a bit worried about him. I figured the side effects would only last for a few days, but he's gotten really, really affectionate, which would be fine, but it seems like he doesn't want to play anymore. I've tried so many different toys and ways to get his attention but he seems content just cuddling and looking out the window. He really wants me to rub his ears too, which I hope is just because the medicine is still bugging him and not because the infection is still there. I wish I could just ask him what's up so bad.

>>4789905Fuck, poor kot. Do you remember the name of the medication/antibiotic the doctors used? This'll sound kind of disgusting but try to softly smell or touch around with a tissue in the affected area to see if there's any infection going around. Maybe he's just recovering from the procedure, and remember that ears balance the pressure in the head. An intense cleaning could put his balance off a bit, but if it doesn't improve in like a week, go to the vet just in case.>>4790233I have no idea about blacklights, dang. But neuter him like the other anon said, or he'll keep peeing to mark his territory, y'know, hormonal instincts.

>>4787028I used to have a Norwegian Forest Cat as a kid. She was extremely smart and loyal. I could call her and she'd come running every single time, she would sit with me as often as she could. She just showed up on our back porch one day. My mom had to give her away because we couldn't afford the food or litter anymore.
>>4790244>But neuter himAnd then his metabolism will be fucked and he will become anxious and fat.If you aren't willing to manage natural cat behavior, don't get a cat.
>>4790264In my experience, they're either fat OR anxious, never both. One was neutered at the earliest possible moment, that's the anxious one. And the other was neutered after he was already definitively an adult, he got fat and he sheds constantly. They both seem perfectly happy though and there's no indication either has suffered for it.

>>4790300The fat one was already highly food motivated before he was neutered, he would be just as eager to eat kibble out of your hand as he would a real treat. He's still like that. We're controlling his diet as much as we can, but he empties the bowl before the other cat can get any so we have to put down a little bit extra. As for the study about anxiety, first of all, it's in dogs and it's talking about dogs who don't have consistent companionship. This cat has both another cat he's very close to and people he's familiar with in the house more often than not. And second, when I say he's anxious, I mean he'll go and hide under the couch for a few minutes when he hears the garage door going, or he's quicker to jump when he hears the house shift or something. He'll still flop over and roll around and expose his belly and leave himself vulnerable in other ways. He's not really too anxious, it's not a problem.
>>4790287>>4790280I only get problems with cat piss when I'm lazy and the litter box is literally overflowing with shit.
>>4790305>We're controlling his diet as much as we can, but he empties the bowl before the other cat can get any so we have to put down a little bit extra. So, you're not actually controlling his diet. if he's stealing food from the other cat, separate them when feeding. For anxiety, separation anxiety tends to be studied more because it's easy to study compared to other forms of anxiety in animals. There are no studies on neutering and anxiety in cats, but there are in dogs. For more general anxiety with dogs see for example:>Overall, when controlling for sex, the odds of dogs gonadectomized at any age having fearof storms were significantly (P < 0.001) higher (4.1 times as high) than the odds for sexually intact dogshttps://avmajournals.avma.org/view/journals/javma/244/3/javma.244.3.309.xmlGiven that anxiety is also a very well established symptom of hypoandrogenism in humans, it stands to reason that anxiety is is a consequence of castration in many mammals, including cats.As for your cat, it's not a matter of problem/not a problem. Your cat would have a better quality of life if he didn't feel the need to hide every time the garage door opens.
I need help identifying the potential causes of an atypical behavior my 7yo indoor bros are exhibiting. tl;dr: Might cats force themselves to eat bad food? They're no longer enthusiastic to eat one of their staple dry kibbles after a period where we switched them to other kibbles. Whole context: >A month ago, one of the kibbles they've always eaten is suddenly out of stock>discover independently that, last September-October, they received complaints about food having mould in them>buy a bag of a kibble they've never had before, they eat it with no issues>buy a different bag of kibble, also no issues>usual kibble comes back in stock but its shape has changed, from small bulbs resembling a paw, to smaller crosses with rounded corners>they show disinterest, but will eat it if no other food is presented>with another kibble that is also one of their lifelong usuals, they're perfectly fineI'm ruling out medical issues, but don't know if I should be concerned that the cats may be forcing themselves to eat bad food. Otherwise I think it's either that the food's ingredients have changed to something they don't like, or they just really liked the new foods they had tastes of. Whatcha think?

i think my cat may die soon. i have no money at all so i can't get him to the vet. he's 19 years old and he's always had problems pooping. i gave him miralax with his food and he'd poop eventually with the longest being like 5 days or so. he is also fat and i overfeed with 1/2 cup of dry twice a day and 1/3 of a can of wet. the last 4 days though he has barely eaten anything and hasn't been able to leap up on the bed that is only 1ft off the ground cause i have no bed frame. i've been giving him his water bowl and food from time to time to see if he eats it and he has been slowly eating less throughout the days. there's a soft lump on the top of his butt where his tail is. i think it might be an infected cyst. at this point i just want him to poop one more time because i think he has too much stuff inside him to want to eat more. i massaged his butt with a warm rag yesterday cause he had dingleberries anyway but got nothin out of it.i've had him 7 years but it's not enough.
multicat owners, when hiding/throwing food for cats to hunt, how do you make sure one doesn't overfeed while the others starve? i have the one alpha cat that finds/hoards all the food involved, and will even eat enough to make himself puke it all up. >>4790351maybe there's a suppository option to induce poo? >>4790350

Anyone here use wood litter? I want to try it out to see if it helps my cat's allergies at all. From what I gather the piss just gets absorbed by the wood and you kinda just leave it there until you replace it? And the poo's humidity also but you have to scoop those out? How's the smell compared to clay? How often do you replace it? The trash here only gets picked up every 2 weeks so that's how often I can do, is it enough? Right now I'm mixing both clay and wood to get him used to it but it's kind of a mess since the clay doesn't clump well mixed with wood.

hello /cat/, i need some advice for the last month pic rel has been in and out of a “cold”, sneezing, coughing, snivelling and general snotty. his coat has not lost any shine, nor has his behaviour changed during this time — just as playful and seeking attention. when i search up causes i’ve been told it’s a cat cold that lasts a few weeks, and i’m hoping it’s that since we can’t to take him to the vet at the moment started giving gim raw meat hoping it’ll strengthen his immune system, to varying success. so do you guys have any advice on what to do? i’d be thankful for some pointers
>>4790623Could be FHV which a lot of cats have but can live normally with except they'll sometimes have flare ups once in a while. Symptoms are pretty much what you describe and can also include ocular discharge, lethargy or lack of appetite if the flare-up is more serious. Those usually happen when some other disease happens or something stresses out the cat more than usual which can cause the immune system to not be as alert as usual. Did anything in his routine change lately that could cause that? This usually resolves on its own after a couple weeks so if it's really been 4+ weeks it's probably something else.Could also be allergies. Does he have any other symptoms like scratching more often, puking more often or pimples around the chin (cat pimples are black and are mostly hidden by even white fur)? Has anything new been introduced into his diet or into your home lately?Could also be a polyp or tumor in the nose area which can cause rhinitis with seemingly no cause. I think they can also do nose scans but given the small size and complexity of a cat's skull they're pretty fucking expensive so it's usually more common to go by elimination of FHV, allergies and other more common causes.tldr check with a vet
>>4790244>Do you remember the name of the medication/antibiotic the doctors used?Opti pack e. I knew it was supposed to stay in the ear working for a while, but I figured by now it would be done. I guess that could still be bugging him though. I can't smell the medicine or anything else, and his ear doesn't look bad. I have to go back to the vet to get their booster shots in two weeks, so I'll talk to them about it when I go back to get their FeLV boosters. Also I have been sleeping throughout the night more than usual (was able to be up when their most active but schedule changed) so maybe he's been playing with his sibling while I'm asleep or just got a bit depressed that I'm not awake when he is anymore.
>>4790637>Did anything in his routine change lately that could cause that? no, he’s not lethargic nor have discharge what i know of >Does he have any other symptoms like scratching more oftenyes, he scratches his head with his front paw oftenish for me to have noticed and he goes absolutely ham on scratching his ears — we do try and clean them out every day>puking more often or pimples around the chinno and have not checked >Has anything new been introduced into his diet or into your home lately?i introduced raw meat, as previously mentioned, as a supplement to his reggo wet/dry food wish we could afford a visit to the vet, and here’s another pic of the guy
>>4790674Well if you can't afford the vet there's not much you can do I guess. Sniffles and scratching sort of sounds like allergies, in which case feeding only meat might help find out if it's the case. From what I know, feline allergies are generally caused by the protein source, usually beef or fish, so what meat do you feed? Also I hope you're aware cats need more than meat, but bones and organs as well to get all their necessary nutrients. I'm not really knowledgeable on that topic though.Alternatively if you can get your hands on some corticosteroids like prednisolone, it's really cheap to procure. If you manage you could try giving your cat 5 mg per 10lb per day for a week and see if it improves anything. If it does you can decrease the dose gradually to 2.5 every day, 2.5 every 2 days, to find the right dosage. And if it doesn't you still have to wean it off gradually but at least you'd know it's not that. Wouldn't recommend without a vet's guidance though as steroids have secondary effects especially long term.

So two cats are showing early signs of renal failure, go figure. I think one is 7, other might be a tad older and has FIV. I've become quite used to this at this point, since all my cats live a good long time but seems kidneys always are what lead to their downfall. Is it worth the hassle of paying out the ass for renal diet food? Is there really any evidence? I'm kind of surprised how expensive it is. I would love to do what I can for them, but I don't wanna waste money on food they might not even eat or anything. And as mentioned, I've never gone through the hassle, but all my cats usually live to be 16-19 to date. The one that was 16 just happened to pass from cancer unfortunately with nothing I could do about it.

>>4791279Stick to wet food. The two things to seek out in cat food is high moisture and low/no carbs, which is basically antithetical to the idea of kibble. There are a few brands of kibble out there that are of a good quality (but still dry and full of carbs) but they're always too expensive to be worth considering compared to decent brands of canned food. That said, a little bit of kibble in their diet is acceptable, like if you work long days and need to leave food out for them to eat, but they should be eating mostly wet food. It really doesn't matter what you're feeding them if it's kibble though, it's pretty much all crap all the same.

>>4791279Get them kibbles that good for their digestion mostly as they tend to constipate rather easy, in my experience cats do not drink that much water since most of their liquid intake come from wet food so a kibble that helps them poop easier is better imo
>>4791556If it is the only thing cats eat, it damages their kidneysIt's also a sign you're mentally ill and can't be bothered with doing much more than refilling your cats dry food once a weekI feed wet food once per day, and free feed dry food
>>4791564Most cats will start ignoring dry food and eat only when they're hungry if you feed wet food as well, I feed my cat when I wake up and usually set my alarm for 6:00 AM, if my cat notices I wake up early he will come in and start destroying things until I feed him. It's like an extra alarm.
>>4786617>>4786666Speaking of Maine Coons, my kitten is teething I believe. Both of her upper fangs look like this, which I suspect is the adult tooth coming in and the baby tooth still hanging on. Do you think this is a problem? She's not complaining, and is having fun biting and playing with things.
>>4791564Isn't that dependent on the brand? From what I have heard, it has to do with the amount of sodium in the food.
>>4791332I would think it's harder to find a place for a dog since they're more prone to destroy shit and take up space. Cats may destroy your furniture but that's yours and out of that they're hardly a bother.>>4791586No, even the best dry food is worse than average wet food because cats evolved to get water from their food not drink it, so even if they do drink more when eating dry food, they don't drink enough to compensate and eventually that impacts their kidneys which is why it's very common to have renal issues (because most people feed shit food). And then they just feed kibble for renal instead of just fucking feeding wet food as they should.
My cat will only eat fancy feast wet food even though I’ve given him Rawz and Blue Wilderness wet food, I adopted him while older and can only assume it’s because he is used to pate wet food. Rawz was interesting, it looked more like shredded (cooked) chicken
>>4791592They don't or they possibly don't? I have heard comments that say otherwise. Wouldn't mixing water with dry food help?

>>4791791The H5 in H5N1 basically means that the risk of it being transmitted to anything that isn't a bird or reptile is extremely low. The reason we're seeing it pop up in livestock is because the conditions are just that bad, and they're packed so closely together that something that should be impossible is made simply unlikely. I'm pretty sure it won't ever get to be a big deal. Keep your cat inside anyway, because they wreak havoc on small animals, especially birds. And that goes double this time of year, because birds are laying their eggs right now.

Lately I've been waking up to my cat licking my calves every morning. Basically, my cats are active at night but pass out on my leg (by the window) at some point during the early morning. I'm not sure if its just licking its "pillow" or if its actually sick or something. The other cat is perfectly normal so it can't be a diet thing as they are given the same food.
>>4791728I picked him up from his tower just because he'd been up there forever and he meowed a "wtf are you doing" meow at me. He sat on my lap a bit and slow blinked at me a few times which made me feel better. I was never able to understand the pain scale test before, but looking at his face he's obviously in pain. I guess the only thing I can do is to let the medicine take its course since apparently it's not harmful when licked, this is just him reacting badly to the medicine. I know for sure I'm not gonna give him anymore nexgard though. If anyone has any advice feel free to reply, I feel awful for him.
>>4791862and of course I wake up to him playing with his brother and acting normal. I know cats can hide pain well but maybe I overreacted a bit.

>>4792154Don't worry about it too much, pills are the best once you got a good handle on it. Sit with your kot with pill nearby, optionally put a towel around him just so he doesn't paw at your pill hand mostly, hold his head from behind with your left hand's index and thumb, pill in other hand, poke the corner of his mouth with your left index, he'll open right up, then you just put the pill on the back of the tongue and keep his mouth closed til he swallows. If you fuck it up and drop it elsewhere in the mouth and he starts trying to spit or get it out, just have food nearby to offer right away and he'll go to eat and swallow it at the same time. I do that every day with mine, you don't even have to be forceful. If you're a visual learner this guy's pretty good though you really don't have to be half as forceful.https://youtu.be/WnikCuQtFOw?si=uL6qtORUe9qeNTCp&t=266

I'm devastated.I found this little girl yesterday morning on the sidewalk half-dead, she barely moved and was unable to hold her head straight, god only knows how long she was laying there, luckily there was a vet nearby. My worst fear came true when the vet showed me her x-ray, her thoracic vertebrae were broken, despite this he started treating her with an IV and it did improve her condition (she didn't even have the corneal blink reflex) but I already knew she had little time left. Back home I was taking care of her and as soon the anesthetics started to wear off she began writhing in pain, I was determined to put her down first hour in the morning but she didn't make it through the night.I don't know what it is about the suffering of animals that deeply affects me, I've been crying like a fountain ever since yesterday for this kitten I barely knew. Seeing this little creature going through such agony really broke me.In order to preserve my brief memories of her I decided to give her a posthumous name. Does my cat knows how much I love him
Ruff! Grrr.. er..em I mean Hello fellow cat lovers!
>>4793389Nope they dummy silly creatures but still love them
i love kissing my cat on top of his little head ^^
>>4793420I give my boy kisses on his little noggin as well, and he absolutely hates it, so naturally I do it all the time.
>>4793101Yayy she started eating.I got woken up to her meowing and saw she ate almost a whole dish of food. Thanks for the advice
i'm going to irresponsibly adopt a cat even though I'll have to abandon it in ~2 years when i move out of the country + i live in a one-room apartmentyou can't stop me
>>4793389I reckon they do. My cats know.
>>4793422>he absolutely hates it, so naturally I do it all the time.so trve>>4793540take them with you anonit’ll be better for both of you
My cat requests for his litter box to be emptied. He makes noise in there to alert me, it seems pretty smart.
are these a meme or worth it?
>>4792560this guy here again, she's no longer that scared of me, but is still pretty skittish. Whenever I go to her room I hear her run back to her (enclosed) bed and just stare out at me. I see her playing with toys on my camera but she still won't play with me.If I drag her out of her bed, she'll sit on my lap and purr, eat treats out of my hand, and rub her head against me, but will run back to the bed after a few minutes. Should I keep dragging her out or will that traumatize her?
>>4786604My cat is peeing outside his litter box. He had a UTI which we fixed via antibiotics but he’s still doing it. Any suggestions?
cat just got neutered and she screams every time she's alone, luckily my dog supports her
I personally think my baby boy is very handsome. Do you agree?
New kitty. Her name is scrunchie :)
>>4793707free her
>>4793216>Beautiful.thank you
>>4793703No, he is gorgeous!!!!
>>4793708She is in jail, and will pay for her crimes.
>>4793678Just let her be, it can take some cats 2-3 weeks to get used to a new environment and people, she'll warm up to you eventually just have patience.
>>4793707>>4793715How old? She looks cute :3
>>4793691>neutered >sheCan't believe I used to advocate neutering every male pet. Proto tranny propaganda right there.
>>4793691Please do not mutilate your cats.
Elysium, Ely for short, 4 mo NFCI'm struggling to get her to learn the speak command, I dunno if that's because her breed is typically quieter or what. and lately she's been more squirrelly with nail clipping. I feel like she hasn't had much human grooming as a early kitten, do I just keep it going slow with lots of treat rewards? Also how legit is getting a 2nd cat in reducing cat playtime workload?
>>4793786Female cats benefit from spaying more than female dogs do. Obviously always, always wait until well after sexual maturity but female cats go into heat much more often than male cats and it's very stressful on the body and the mind, especially as they get older.
>>4793808>Also how legit is getting a 2nd cat in reducing cat playtime workload?I always tell people to get two cats. It's just a good idea. They keep each other company, and it's only like 25% more work to care for a second cat.
>>4793816*much more often than female dogs. My bad.
>>4793832But it's also double the food and vet bills. I agree it's a good idea to get a second cat if you're getting a kitten or a young cat, but if you're adopting an adult or elderly cat, unless it comes with another as a bonded pair, it's not super necessary.
>>4793837>But it's also double the food and vet bills.Stop being poor.
>>4793691Man. It’s always a treat seeing dogs and cats so close like this
I love cats and how nice it is when they purr sitting on you
>>4793841he's trying to but people keep telling him to double his bills
>>4793765She's 5 years old
Why are calico cats so seductive?
>>4793909Because you are a zoophile.
>>4793909all cats are
>>4791627thank you anon, that's great. i wish more people replied. i love slouching cats
>Have an older house>Its got terrible screens>Cat saw a bird or something and popped through the mesh and wound up outside.>Luckily I was in the same room and heard him>Probably animal scents outside spook the shit out of him, yowling, growling, the whole nine.>I prioritize finding him before properly 'suiting up' (Long sleeve jacket and gloves)>Find him and get close enough to let him sniff me.>Go to try and pick him up and end up with a bite on one thumb, a hooked cheek, and a clawed other hand.Suited up properly after that but man he was not happy. Not the first time this has happened as he popped the other window screen about a year ago.In other news, I need to figure out how to get him to loose a bit of weight. He's not a football but he's a bit chunky.
How bad is this? I first noticed she had a little scab Monday and figured she must have rubbed her head too hard on a piece of furniture. Today, the area around it is a little swollen and the wound is open. It's not dripping or anything but the scab is open. I don't know if she scratched it off herself, or it came off while she was marking the corner of a piece of furniture, but it's off. She's an indoor cat.I put a cone around her for now. Vets are closed (open tomorrow morning) but there is a 24h animal hospital about 35 min away if I really need it. I'm just really worried because she's generally super healthy.
>>4794003I would say its something that can get looked at in the morning. If she's not immediately bleeding it should be fine till then.
>>4794003Cone's good, you could also wash it gently with cotton balls and warm water but yeah, I'd check in with vet, maybe get antibiotics just in case to prevent infection.
>>4794006>>4794060My issue is that I can't leave the cone on her all night because she can't eat nor drink with it. I guess I'll have to wake up 2 or 3 times tonight to give her breaks?
>>4794075Could probably take it off a bit before you go to bed to see if she eats or not and gets some water. Otherwise you can risk it or try to elevate the bowls a little. She's not able to eat/drink because it reaches the ground when she tries right?
>>4794105>Could probably take it off a bit before you go to bed to see if she eats or not and gets some water. I just did. She ate her fill and had a drink. Think she'll tough out 8 hours without any significant stress?
>>4794112Should be, I give my cat a bit of food before sleeping and he's fine, although he will start nagging me when its time to get up. Water is a tougher question.
My cat has is now 7 years old! :)Only roughly 4-5 years left and hes finally dead, cant wait
>>4793909>>4793939stop it
>>4794219no
So how do you guys do wet food? My two cats won't even finish one cat all at once, so sometimes I have to leave it out for a long while. The most I'd go is a day, but do you think that's fine? I think they'd just not eat it if they knew it was bad, cats are pretty picky. I also add some warm water to it so it doesn't dry out throughout the day and they like that too.
>>4794267>one cat at oncecan...
>>4794118Cat livespan is fueled by your dislike of said cat. He'll live to be 20 years and older.
>>4794267I've heard it's fine to leave out for a while but Idk, I wouldn't want *my* food sitting out for a whole day. What I do is I split the meal so like half a can in the morning and half in the evening. For the rest of the can I put a silicone top on it and put it in the fridge until next meal. You might have to experiment to figure out how much they'll eat every meal and hopefully they're not too picky about cold food (was never an issue with mine, though I did smush it since it gets a little hard when cold).
>>4794267just feed them what they'll eat and leave the rest in the can for later. I don't think there's any risk in leaving canned food out for a few hours, if it gets gross your cat will probably just refuse to eat it, and if it just tries out just get a spoon and give it a stir.
I want to kiss all cats
>>4794411holy plazmosis
>>4794118Kys go back to your dog general
>>4793999My old cat get really aggressive when she wandered outside too. I think indoor cats freak out when they're in an environment that doesn't smell like them. They prolly think you're some strange cat.
>>4794423Nonsense. If he kys'd himself he wouldn't be able to go back to the dog general, or is there 4chan and computers in hell?
>>4793837>double the vet billsOn paper yes, but in practice it actually halves them because then instead of suffering health issues from stress due to loneliness, they have a buddy to keep their energy levels and immune system strong.
>>4794454Dog general is hell, they always fighting
>>47944761% ruins it for the other 99%.
>>4794852
how likely is it for 2 kittens from different litters to get along and play together, they're only 1 month apart in age
i wish my cat would meow
recently adopted a cat and her daughter and the mom lets me pet her every now and then now and does seem to enjoy it (some purring, coming back, rubbing her head against my hands) but the younger one is too shy to come that close or let you touch herbut then today i was petting her mom and she came up and seemed very curious and interested and laid down next to us so i gave her a couple of strokes too along her body since she REALLY doesnt like hands near her head, but she swatted me with her paw after like 5-10 seconds, no claws really other than by force so i take it it was just a "stop doing that" swat rightive never really had cats before so idk what im doing just trying to make sure theyre happy
does anyone actually feed their cat once every 12 hours? I open feed mine and he literally eats 10+ times per day (might be eating in smaller amounts though) but still. And don't worry he isn't overweight but it still worries me if he might be eating too much
>>4794983I just put out the daily allotment of food and my cat picks at it throughout the day
Brought this fella back from the shelter today, his name is RuPawl. Need to teach him that tables aren't for sitting on...
>>4794941give him time, my cats refused to meow for half a year
Happy mothers day to me and every mommas cat
>>4795066>tables aren't for sitting onWhy not?
>weather gets hot>open windows>cat regularly jumped on window and watched outside>yesterday she actually jumped out and started looking around>today, jumped out late afternoon >still hasn't come backI tried to look around but I can't find a trace of her.Now the only real danger for her are cars but it's night time now and she's still not here.
I love this silly creature so much
Reminder:Litterboxes are for cucksDo you really enjoy cleaning your cats shit?Just let it outside>bbbbut my furbaby will die!1LolSounds like your cat doesnt have enough serval blood
Why does my cat not want to go outside through the sliding door but she wants to out of the basement window
>>4795238Autism

>>4793673My cats' previous owner had a litter robot and told me that poop often built up in the scraper.>>4794964Some cats can be ticklish and get upset if you touch them in certain areas. She might be trying to protect her baby as well.>>4795201>>4795263I love Russian blue cats. My grandparents had one for 21 years and she was awesome.
>>>/mu/121873168>>>/mu/121873612
The cat in>>4795263apparently had zero Russian Blue genes. He was primarily Maine Coon and Siamese. Both track because he was super vocal, very large and heavy and did a lot of dog-like behaviors like playing fetch and coming when his name was called.I miss that lorge derpy ass nibba like u wouldn't believe.
>>4795457Meant as a reply to>>4795331
>>4795143Good news, I found the cat. She got stuck on the roof of a nearby abandoned building.Should have let the window open tho, she did a number on my forearms because she panicked when we went the long way around to the front door.
My boy has, twice now, made a random single gag(hack?)ing noise. What could this be? Once was during play, the other was while eating kibble.
>>4795331>She might be trying to protect her baby as well.sorry, wrong cat, it was the younger cat who slapped me i think im just gonna be gentle and do really quick pets when shes in the mood and reward her with a treat if she doesnt immediately hit me
>>4795530Hairball?
>>4786604>/cat/ - Cat Generalkys
>>4789062Passive forced exposure and proximity was the only thing that worked for my less intelligent cat. I'd just put his hangout box in further places each day and block old rooms or pussy spots like underneath shit where I wouldn't want them to go anyways cause they could be crushed. One room method only works for average cats and adopting cats into homes with other animals who need the scent acclimation first.
>>4795530does he get hairballs?does he have contact with other animals directly or through people? is he meowing fine? does he seem tired? is he eating less?my cat got sick with something like laryngitis which made him experience random gagging, unable to vocalize, fever, he ended up on antibiotics an allergy med and an appetite stimulant(practically animal abuse unless the cat stopped eating) it was a contagious cat virus of some kind his voice never fully recovered
