Why do these guys trigger my fight or flight so badly? Am I a pussy? Or should I be afraid?
>>4783334I see these out my window every night except they’re a little taller
>>4783342Are you scared?
>>4783334You’re kind of a pussy but they can be intimidating I guess
>>4783347I don’t know how to describe it but yes
monkey genesi think theyre pretty, perhaps too pretty
What bird are they?
>>4783515harpy eagle
hey OP! BOO!
>>4783575AAAAIIIIEEEEE
>>4783334>Why do these guys trigger my fight or flight so badly? Are you sure you're not a sloth?
>>4783334because the only eagle bigger than this one used to eat humans until it went extinct https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haast%27s_eagle
>>4783334That’s just your monkey brain activating from the deepest depths of your consciousness
>>4783517Kek this one got me, made my lower lip press in. The only other picture that makes me do that is that crocodile/alligator picture where it's looking straight into the camera.
>>4783876They do have a kind of uncannyness to them. I think it's the round head with the fully black eyes. They move like how I'd imagine dromaeosaurs move.
>>4783879It's the eyes and beak swooping in closer in that really smooth way only a bird neck can do. Here's the croc picture.
>>4783884That one gets me, along with the harpy eagles in this thread and one of the two shoebills-looking-at-the-camera webms that get posted here. It's interesting to think that if I saw a monster with that crocodile face in a horror movie, I would be afraid of it. It doesn't even need to have the long snout that makes it identifiable, just be a flat face with the proportions like a front-facing crocodile, and it'll evoke a primal terror without me even knowing it's my instincts reacting to a crocodile.
>>4783915This would be a pretty good vidya idea honestly. Instead of relying on jump scares and cheap shit, just evoke that deep naturalistic terror.
>Why do these guys trigger my fight or flight so badly? Am I a pussy? Or should I be afraid?
>>4783884It’s the eyes. That’s what all these photos have in common. Something about their eyes are deeply unsettling. Makes my monkey brain go >AAAAAAHHH!! AAHHHH!!! EEEEE!! OOOH OOH!!!
>>4783986>OP when he sees a Harpy Eagle through his laptop monitor in the comfort of his own home:https://youtu.be/OBBD0XDrKlI?si=a4Zq2jCyMMMB_ZjZ
>>4783833>BTFO by the primitive hyper violent Maōriguess it met its match
>>4783884that’s super fucking uncanny because a croc looking straight forward intently at you almost never happens and is literally an actual predators gaze, I’d be creeped out if a lion or wolf did the same>>4783985well, at least he wouldn’t be a pussy
its a good thing OP isnt watching this video or he'd probably revert to being a simian out of pure fear
>>4784007>I’d be creeped out if a lion or wolf did the sameI'm pretty sure that birds on my bird table get similar feelings when I watch them from my window (I do try to avoid doing it of course)
>>4783986I think it's because you can tell that they're thinking and intelligent, but still soulless animals that will kill you if they could.
stumbling into baby barn owls is spookier
>>4784216
>>4784222why did you post the footage of my alien abduction?
>>4784222what the fuck is their problem
>>4784222You know, it’s easy to see why these things were considered bad omens
>>4783334Imagine this dude outside your windows
>>4783334idk, it does nothing for me. just cool birbs
>>4785081Thumb is a Statue of Zeus spreading his legs
>>4785336More like Moses with the horns
>>4783507they look like jim henson puppetsi see this one and expect sassy commentary
>>4785827There is something especially reptilian about these birds, compared to something like a golden eagle or vulture; completely stoic, robotic and seems to lack any emotion at all
>>4785265I will keep my sanity, thanks for the concern.
>>4785906It’s the robotic movement and calculating eyes, just pure instinct and input going through it
