Icythochads, we're so back!
>>
>>4775860
Is he ok?
>>
>>4775863
He's probably just asleep.
>>
>>4775860
>just a piece of jawbone
Place your bets, will it be upsized to bigger than a blue whale or downsized to 20 metres or below
>>
>ichthyotitan
Meh.
Between Chingchongosaurus wasabi and Titansaurus biggus idk which I'm more tired of.
>>
>>4775895
Gone are the days of names like Tyrannosaurus rex, this is the age of Genericus blandi and Referencia popculturens
>>
>>4775895
>>4775898
Ichthyotitan is a fucking awesome name, you retards are just contrarian normalfags and should possibly go back.
>>
>>4775901
It’s an alright name
>>
>>4775901
Waiting for Ichthyoterror, Ichthyotyrannus and Ichthyorex
>>
>>4775901
if you only pop into paleo news once every couple years, sure, but when a new "thing"titan drops every couple of months it gets tiresome.
>>
>>4775860
So what does this mean essentially?
>>
>>4775933
New Spinosaurus dropped.
Spinosaurus was actually a 25m Ichtyosaur.

Drukbros ww@
>>

It's a cool name, it's just the -titan suffix is so played out nowadays.
Personally I would've liked a name that references its likeness to whales.
>Saurophyseter
>Porphyriosaurus
>Sauroleviathan

Mammalbros... how could this happen...
>>
>>4777336
How does this even happen? I mean it's a liberal estimate sure, but how the hell could this thing possibly feed itself? Warmer oceans usually have lower productivity and this thing lived in the fucking blazing hot Triassic, not to mention jawbones of its relatives like shonisaurus show normal ichthyosaur dentition which implies that it couldn't even filter feed. What the fuck did these things eat?
>>
>>4777341
tfw the actual kraken didn't fossilize
>>
>>4777336
Put it next to a blue whale
>>
>>4777356
Okay then. What did the literal kraken eat in that case?
>>
>>4777341
>how could this thing possibly feed itself?
Ask yo momma
>>
>>4777341
>What the fuck did these things eat?
The shape of the jaw implies it was predatory so possibly other ichthyosaurs, large invertebrates and fish. That said we already had perucetus go from 300 tonnes to like 60 in a month so time will tell
>>
>>4777341
Sperm whales are immense creatures too and they dont filter feed.
>>
>>4777393
):
>>4777397
I know yea, it's almost 100% gonna get downsized. They probably only say shit like this because it sells and gets clicks. Everybody wants to be the one to find the new biggest ________ ever.

>>4777405
Macropredatory animals have a size cap at around that size, the only animals that we know of that even get anywhere near the giant baleen whale range are filter feeders. I just don't see how an animal could possibly live in an ecosystem with less organic matter yet be three times the size of the largest known animals that lived similar lives to it.
>>
>>4775892
All of this fragmentary bullshit inevitably gets downsized
>>
>>4775895
It's a decent name, describes it petty well since it's a giant icthyosaur
It had it far better than the poor victims of pop culture jewgolems like dracorex and fucking thanos
>>
>>4775860
>what should our illustration choice be for what's possibly the biggest marine reptile that ever, ever existed?
>I KNOW! HAVE IT DEAD ON THE BEACH, THAT'S HOW PEOPLE KNOW WHALES RIGHT?!?!
What's the thought process behind that? Hell, there's an alternate illustration that other news websites use that's way better at giving a sense grandeur to it.
>>
>>4777448
>It had it far better than the poor victims of pop culture jewgolems like dracorex and fucking thanos
All pop culture reference names can go in the bin except for Ninjemys
>>
>>4777449
it's because they reckon that the skeleton was scavenged and picked apart after it washed up on a beach
>>
>>4777449
What a weird thing to be autistic about
>>
>>4775860
>25m
Big Whale always makes sure they keep their precious Blue Whale the biggest. Sick of it.
>>
>>4775860
that looks like a deep sea creature, why did they drop him on the beach?
>>
>>4777933
Did you just assume xer habitat?
>>
>>4777407
>Macropredatory animals have a size cap at around that size
I mean, says who?
