He was extremely expensive (rumored $3mil/yr), injury prone, looked like shit, no charisma whatsoever, has no idea how to wrestle, has brain damage...do I need to continue?

Maybe they didn't. Maybe he's getting in the best shape he can get while also actively taking lessons on how to be a pro wrestler and how to integrate all his mma stuff into his wrestling.
