Jesus christ, OP, stop being such a miserable, melodramatic cunt.
Why is Japanese skating so soulful bros?
>>80660because its still somewhat new and niche there and super frowned on by older generations. theres lots of areas in japan where its "illegal" to skate and cops will stop you during the day just for skating down the street or sidewalk. kinda comparable to skateboarding in the US in the 90s. and now the japs have their Tony Hawk in Yuto and it will slowly work its way into the mainstream.
guys wake up
this is the comfiest thread on the entire site
gifted hater is making fun of our girl nelly....it's fucking over bros
>>80683>gifted haterwho?>our girl nellyand literally who?
>>80659>trying to focus your board >it doesn't snapCouldn't imagine anything more embarrassing
>>80688Buddy what are you doing in the skate thread if you don't actually keep up with skateboarding media?
>>80690Because I don't give a fuck about these fagolas and whatever internet drama that's happening. I just wanna talk about skateboarding.
>>80692you don't watch skate videos?
>decide to pick up a board again>do some ollies on my old [old af] board, but its falling apart>get new board>oh holy shit, i need to relearn ollies on a board whos wheels actually spin.Oof, my old man back hurts because I tried to compensate for my old man knees and hips.Once I realized I was doing that and cut that shit out, I acutally managed to do a few ollies and shuvits.
>>80693Just random short vids and clips that get posted here but I'm not gonna sit down and watch a full length skate video
>>80695thats fair. at times it feels like the age of full length skate videos is dead and it kind of bums me out because its the kind of media that I grew up on, but something like that Creature video that just came out was insanely hard to sit through its entirety. I just don't think that these single release parts on Thrasher really have the same lasting impact as a part in a classic video but I just need to get with the times I guess.
>>80697the Creature video had really good skating but it took me 3 days to get through it
>>80706Same. I think the format needs to change or shit just needs to be on the shorter, >30 mins side and feel like an album playlist. I usually watch Zero's Painkiller, Worble 3 and Punch a Hole in the Sky the whole way through though. For me the thing that's REALLY dead is the whole compilation of parts thing. That's totally irrelevant with social media. Full length skate videos really don't need to tie themselves to that any more.
>>80662Not sure if I fully agree. Japan has had a solid skate scene since the early 90s but it's just never had much international exposure and wasn't the "punk" youth culture thing it was in the anglosphere (that was mostly bikes and cars). Mostly it's just not had the international exposure it deserves. I'd love a good skate history doc on Japan now that I think of it. Seems like there's a plethora of young Youtubers there now, but I'd like to know more about the 90s guys.
>>80719Lol was that her ender.
Speaking of skate videos, I picked these up at my local charity shop a while ago. Real snapshot of what skate videos had stumbled into in the 2000s.Destroy Everything Now was a legit great, straightforward video. Nothing particularly adventurous with format, just good skating. Worst thing you could say about it is that it was "another skate video".Death of a Video Magazine was one of those "we don't have enough killer clips so here's a bunch of fake antics" things. The WORST bit was when they "break into" the Berrics and fucking Steve Berra "catches" them like it's about to turn into a porno, only for him to think their mini moto bike is so fun he lets them away with it. Just top tier cringe bad acting. Had that real mall skater vibe going on, only with actual skaters teying to pass off clearly staged antics as reality.1st Hope was an interesting idea; basically a video album for Beck with a sorta-narrative of skaters going around LA. Problem was there was no sound aside from the music, which makes the skating extra boring, on top of the fact the skating is boring to begin with because it's mostly just safe, reliable, film friendly cruising around. Kinda illustrated why film and skating don't often go well together. It was really interesting seeing videos try to do something different, maybe appeal more to non-core skaters...and failing at it.
>>80722The Corey Duffel part in "Destroy Everything Now" is a classic.
>>80657>https://www.jenkemmag.com/home/2022/01/10/oldest-youngest-staff-members-share-2022-predictions/>THE GREAT NFT SCANDAL>Maybe it will be an NFT or maybe it will be a shitcoin™ or some new swindle that hasn’t even been thought of yet, but some unlucky professional skateboarder is going to be caught up in a web 3.0 fraud scandal this year. We’ve all seen a select few pros pushing this already and thought to ourselves, “This can’t be legal, right?” Well, the chickens are gonna come home to roost on this one. My guess is that it will be a vert pro flying too close to the sun.– ThomasI REALLY can't wait for this. I want NFTs in general to fuck off and die forever and will feel nothing but schadenfreude for whoever watches their money evaporate when it happens, but seeing god damn skateboarders so wholly embrace these things is beyond disappointing. NFTony Hawk is perhaps the one guy where I'm not even surprised because of how much of a company man he tends to be normally, but seeing younger pros do it is just sad.Might speak to that lack of teenage angst/punk attitude the article mentions later.

What bearings do you use anon?I use oust but I read in a few places that they suck.Kind of a new skater but they seem to work well I guess.
>>80735Bones. Not sure about Oust, but if your wheels are spinning smoothly (ie; they don't come to an abrupt stop when you spin them), then they're okay bearings. Main thing to look out for imo is how fast they rust.

>>80795>>80765>>80749Sorry, I could not believe that Jezebel article was legit until I checked what else she'd written. I don't even want to go on about it because I'd be repeating what everyone else says about that hell hole. But fucking hell. Just fucking hell.I was talking with a fellow oldie at my park tonight; 55 year old guy who used to surf pools 40-ish years ago, had kids and put it aside, and is now making his shaky first year back, skating through sprains and broken ankles, losing all of his dad weight, and just gently cruising around the pool. And the idea that there's someone out there that would legitimately stop and think about how much they want to take that from him to the point they'd write an article about it is so fucking sad. Let alone myself at 30. Real Scrooge-like behaviour. I can at least expect it from older boomer-aged assholes (literally had one call the fucking police on me and my friends for rolling off the curb in their estate, and even the cops thought they were a cunt), but fucking hell.I'd love to find out where they frequent and have a sesh with a dozen skaters there.

>>80735big balls or reds, Protip: don't oil your bearings. Use them from new and then after the first cleaning airdry them and put those babies right back in shieldless and you'll have some fast as fuck hissing snakes
>>80735don't listen to this guy >>80845It might be fast for a while, but you'll definitely pay for it later. Either ride em out until the oil's thin again or just use a drop if you don't want to wait that long
>>80847have fun with sticky not loud bearings. I've used my un oiled set for almost a year skating park and street daily and they still scream
>>80735imo indy blacks are the best >$20 bearings reds<big balls<blacks<super reds<boneswis
>>80849>screamlol, you realize this doesn't mean they're actually going any faster, right, you retard? if your bearings are "sticky" after you re-oil them, it's because you're either using the wrong type of oil or you you over oiled them. do you actually think metal on metal with no lubricant whatsoever is superior to metal on metal with lubricant that actually helps them keep rolling? >un oiled set for almost a year skating park and street dailyi guarantee you aren't actually doing any kind of real skating because reds are NOTORIOUS for seizing up, falling apart and just generally crumbling without shields if you're actually jumping down things or flinging your board around. I love Reds because they're cheap and fast, NOT because the quality of life is supposed to be any good.
>skating without shieldsJust rust my shit up, senpai.
>buy Bones Swiss>fast as fuck>take them out for a spin in the rain to see how they cope>best bearings I've ever had>go through puddles like they are nothing>put the board away in the garage>few weeks later putting together a new deck for a session>notice the swissys are slow and seizing up>no fucking problem>take them out>drown those bad boys in a healthy coating of WD-40>let them dry>drown them again for good measure>back to top performanceALWAYS have a can of WD-40 in your skate fanny-pack.

>he buys decks online maybe I’m just a retard who can’t properly read numbers but I NEED to actually see/feel the concave and kicks of a board in person, I can’t just wing it based on width and think everything is gonna be alright but more power to the people who actually can. I just stick to trucks/wheels/shoes desu
>>80896Whoa look at mister money bags over here with a spare 120 dollars to throw around. Im joking I have that but I dont wanna see it leave my bank account.>>80898a lot of people would say everything you just said but about buying shoes online.
>>80901the concave of your shoes?I get that some shoe brands run big/small but I’ve tried enough skate shoes to know what size I am in sole techs/Vans/Converse. I couldn’t say the same about boards because of how many different wood shops are floating around and how often shapes are changing but yeah, I guess that is pretty fair. I’ve just been burned too many times ordering a board because the graphic looks nice only to get something with a weird as hell shaped nose or a tiny tail or the concave being so fucked up it feels like I can’t keep my feet flat across the board. the worst thing I could say about shoes is they might be a half size off and I can always just throw in an extra insole and tie the laces a bit harder to compensate.
You know what I don't like buying online, clothes.

>>80958>I get mega red flags when nobody addressees how someone diedwhen nobody wants to talk about it it's almost always a suicide/drug overdose. just look at slap, any time someone died from the following and someone asked how they died, people get up in arms and start trying to dunk on the person who is just looking for closure. it's kind of sad because if people were willing to talk about the subject, it would probably open a lot of doors in terms of talking about mental health/drug addiction in the skate community. I understand that a person has the right to privacy, but I think it's cringe the skate community "pretends" to care about "mental health" or drug issues but if someone is currently suffering from said issues, people try and sweep it under the rug or say some shit like "don't put them on blast like that!". anyways, RIP to the dude. that loveletters someone else posted in here really makes me want to go out and learn how to build DIY spots but it feels almost impossible to do that in SoCal without the spot getting blown out and torn down in a matter of weeks.

>>80990I'm interested to see this part his been working on. Claims it's the best he's ever skated. Also, sometime I wonder if I'd rather junkie skaters stay as crusty burnouts, or become Bornagain Christian Hosois.
>>81004Yeah, I remember when that news first hit people assumed it had something to do with alcohol and if you told someone that they would get really offended that you dared imply that someone with a wife and kids would throw it away to get wasted, but I guess we see how that turned out >>81011or, you know, they can just go the Reynolds/Greco route of just being normal people who just skate and don’t feel the need to be preachy weirdos because they understand everyone has issues/wants to experiment with things while they’re young. I guess some people just need to fill that addiction void with something and it ends up being religion for a lot of people

>>80958>>80994Trying to find info online, all I could see is that he died in his home. Most likely suicide and the reason they won't say is because he left his wife and kids behind. >>81066>but isn’t that bad?of course it's bad, running no shields means you're exposing your bearings to all the grime that you'd run into skating the streets/park/your driveway/anywhere you can think of, and the bearings being greased up by default means it's just going to attract even more dirt and debris. people just run them shieldless because it sounds cool and thats really it some retards think they're skating faster because your bearings are making more noise but do not fall for this gimmick ever. it's one thing if your shields fall off/get torn up and you take them off but purposely taking them off new bearings is retarded. i can't believe Bronson actually sells shieldless bearings and retards actually by them. >>81091>both very fuckableEunice is pretty hot but Haley kind of looks like a foot, and not in the sexy kind of way. i'd still smash though. as for the content itself, i actually kind of like it. they've got dry humor that I really appreciate and obviously don't take themselves serious. they're alright skaters but I think it is more the fact that they aren't really trying hard so its kind of appealing to someone like me who just likes to fuck around on my board. its a nice change of pace from your usual skate shill video where X pro says some shit in the most monotone drugged out voice like "yeah these are my thunders and they rip i'd never skate anything else" with a bunch of throwaway clips that are slow mo'd into oblivion. as for slap, people on the forum have weird attitudes about everything, they desperately want to hate on anything they can but also come off as PC as possible so you get a lot of weird takes and people lacking zero self awareness. Krux kind of suck but I will admit I really wanted a pair of the diamond ones when I was a young skate rat. they would have paired very nicely with my Reynolds 3s with the diamonds on the side.

Getting a separate set of wheels for skating on shitty pavements really helped with making skating a viable way to commute around town. I also had my first skate session in months and I was amazed. I can still do basic boardslides and land 50 50s occasionally. But once I lock into a 50 50 grind on a ledge I don’t know how to get off without jumping off the board. How do you do it??
>>81105>once I lock into a 50 50 grind on a ledge I don’t know how to get off without jumping off the board. How do you do it??Lift up your weight just a little bit and pivot the board off, or ride it out like rolling off a curb.

Thinking about putting an 8.5 deck on 8" trucks. should I do it or will it be shitty?
>>81231It depends. Some people prefer their trucks to be much narrower. You'll have to try it for yourself.
>>81231Eh, you might manage, but I had 7.5" trucks on and 8.5" board for a day and it was a herky jerky uncontrollable mess. Turns will be super harsh and landing will be harder. But, like anything, you can make it work if you're determined enough.
>>81185It's actually younger people who view age gaps as significant and greater than they are.
>>81232Fair enough. I know that almost hardware stuff is preference based but I thought having trucks the same length as the deck was the right way. I've never skated more than horizontal cruising 20 miles to and from the nearest city on a used, gifted longboard, but something didn't feel right about it. What's a good board to start with? I have a size 13 shoe and could use some input on board width. I feel a bit stupid trying things 100% fresh at my age and don't want to look TOO dumb.
>>81282You’d probably want an 8.5” board for size 13 feet. I’d imagine that it would be like a size 10 on an 8” board which is pretty standard. You could go bigger than 8.5” but then most boards become specially shaped. Anti-hero makes a lot of wider boards that come in a standard popsicle shape. You might be able to find a 9” which could be more preferable with big feet.
>>81237remember when nobody cared about pants and everyone was just skating in whatever fucking jeans, and your shit got ripped and you didnt care cause you werent paying 120 dollars for jeans.

>>81288Thanks for the input. I have good balance and footwork so I don't think I need to go too wide, but I don't have a good feeling for what too narrow would be. Does aiming for 8.25"-8.5" sound right?Beyond that, I guess I'll get some meme recognizable brand that isn't Wal-Mart tier.
>>81295If you plan on doing technical tricks later down the line then you should probably go for 8.25” since it’ll be easier to get used to in the beginning. If you feel that’s not wide enough then 8.5” is your best bet.

>>80722>BerraYou mean the bloke took time out if his day, simping for Skatemoss, Leticia Bufoni, being an existential faggot on Insta, and sucking L. Ron Hubbard’s dick to actually do something else?
>>81302excellent - 10/10. Anyone who makes fun of this is a retard that doesn't skate. So many unique and well thought out design choices here. Particularly the shape of the board is genius that only someone with true experience could pick up on. Love the sick frog graphic as well.
I THINK it's supposed to be a longboard, but isn't the whole point of longboarding that it's flat so you can do surfy footwork on it?Also, dat ply.>>81292I honestly hate 90% of clothes, especially pants, skate shops are selling these days. Some kinda baggy cargos/work pants or stretch jeans work just fine, cost a fraction, and look better imo.
>>81336yeah before scientology and all that shit he was famous for making fake spots. like he would bring a bench from one spot to put before a stair set somewhere else so he could get a line. >>81340>>81302how much was it?

i need help building a concrete quarteri have a few design restrictions.can i get suggestions to /diy/ please?>>>/diy/2292582
>>81367>/diy/2292582Something is being lost in translation here... Are you making a 6x6 slab or a quarter pipe? A slab is the floor.
>>81357>how much was it?It's some guy's college design project I think.>Today, I unveil the project that I have been working on for the past year.>A couple of years ago I had an idea for a board that was ergonomically shaped to match the curves of your feet, more than any other board. To make this extreme shape possible the board uses a new innovative construction, unlike any board made to date.>I had doubts if this idea was too crazy or too extreme to be able to bring it to life. After years of designing and a whole year of building templates, jigs, shaping moulds, gluing and pressing materials my idea has finally come to life.>Here is the first board that I created from start to finish! Designed, built, sanded and finished by yours truly. My time, hardwork, blood, sweat, tears, brain and emotions have all gone into this dream project of mine to make it a reality.>The people tagged are those who came over to the workshop to see parts of the process and to give me a helping hand along the way. >Also tagged are those who will be helping me test and prototype these boards to make them the best that they can be.>Thank you to all that encouraged me and put up with me ranting on about technical skateboard jargon. I don't want to be too hard on the guy because I feel like he'll learn once he has other people skate it, but what's driving me nuts is that they have a load of overly positive comments from people who have no idea. I'm kinda surprised that someone who skates themselves doesn't see how many problems they've created with this design.
>>81369>Are you making a 6x6 slab or a quarter pipe? A slab is the floor.i am going to make a quarterpipe ramp out of a curved slab of concrete>slab: a large, thick, flat piece of stone, concrete, or wood, typically rectangular.....ahh i see where it says 'flat'
>>81367I've never done it first hand, so just repeating what I've seen on Youtube. This might be helfpul: https://youtu.be/SWd4Eq5F1V8Don't use sand as filler unless you want to by the high grade construction shit. It will compress and shift over time if it gets moist and will crack your ramp. Use solid objects like broken bits of brick and concrete. You don't need rebar. If you have it, cool, sure, but I rarely see DIYers use it. I think that you're basically making most of the ramp out of the concrete but using as much sturdy fill as you can to pad it out.Main thing you need are pool trowels.
>>81372probably someone similar to the redditor posted a few weeks back that 3-d printed "sole savers" for when he brakes. Its usually people who start skateboarding and love it so much they want to mix that with other hobbies they like. Unfortunately that ugly thing is DOA
>>81375Ok look some of the advice you're getting on /diy/ is not very good desu. Start off by making a wooden form out of plywood so you get the radius for your quarter pipe. If you do not know how to do this I REALLY recommend learning this before you move on to concrete work. Have you made a wooden quarter pipe yet?I'm asking because /diy/ is already telling you about sand and aggregate ratios, do not worry about this. Years down the line you can but not anytime soon. If you insist on doing this just buy the premixed concrete bags. Mixing cement with aggregate for your first time is going to be awful since I see you're asking about how much water to use.Do you have numbers and measurements ready for this btw? Making one out of wood is smooth way of dipping your toes in. Do you masonry tools?
>>81376>Use solid objects like broken bits of brick and concrete.>>>/diy/2299914i mentioned earlier that local fill is limited to scrap metal, tires, scrap wood, sand and clay. there is very little rock/brick/concrete-chunks to use as fill.>You don't need rebar. If you have it, cool, sure, but I rarely see DIYers use it. from what i understand, you only need rebar if its a giant slab of concrete like 12x12 or bigger that will have cars driving over italso i am making my own mix of concrete with some pretty big aggregate, like some rocks are almost an inch in diameter, and from what i read, large rock causes problems with rebar. maybe ill just have like a piece of rebar every 18 inches or so.....
>>81378i already did a bunch of small concrete projects last month with a buddy who has diy experience. i have school knowledge on concrete strength and ratios. he has experience knowledge on trowleing and working the concrete. now i am going to attempt a bigger ramp.how the hell do you bend a sheet of ply to fit a curve??the quarter will be places along a 4.5ft wall but i want it to go 6 ft high. i was thinking about making the last 8 or 16 inches out of cinderblock ... but im scared i might end up giving it an annoying kink right before the top
another question:homeless depot used to have 10lb boxes of screws at $2.50/lbnow they only have 25lb boxes at $2.00/lb (too many screws)and 5lb boxes at $5/lb (too expensive)is there anywhere i can get similar prices on a 10lb box?amazon seemed useless.i regularly drive up the hwy 99 from SF to LA so i have plenty of big and small hardware suppliers to visit.i need 10lb of 2in screws,10lb of 2.5in screws10lbs of 3in screws3-5lbs of 3.5in screwshalp
>>81385>>81387my man you need to post a picture of your spot or something. at least ms paint us a blueprint. what are you buying 30 pounds of screws for? you just need to make the wooden forms on the outside. that is where curve you already measure out is coming from. if you're building this against a wall you don't need to bend any plywood. just go get a bunch of bricks or cinder blocks yourself and throw them in there. it doesn't matter that they are not there, you will bring them. i'm not sure i'm understanding how the backfill is going to be an issue if you and your friend have decided to measure out your own cement and mix by hand, for a 6 foot quarter pipe. that's a lot of material already.
>>81392im building it up against this 4.5ft wall> it doesn't matter that they are not there, you will bring them. nearest city i could find easily fill would be 30 miles away, i could possibly find fill in the town 15miles away. everywhere else is just farmland/desert. there is a ton of scrap metal though, tin cans full of dirt, tires full of dirt. every trip i make i will already be overloading my truck with 800lbs of concrete.blueprint, ms sketch incoming
i need the screws cuase i am also building wooden ramps.
>>81396Do this but taller. See in the middle where they are standing in? Fill that up with everything. I'm going to post more pictures hold on.
>>81400See how it's getting packed in there?
>>81392>if you and your friend have decided to measure out your own cement and mix by hand, for a 6 foot quarter pipe. that's a lot of material already.were gathering local rock and sand and mixing with bags of portland cement.we the general pour will be 2 parts local concrete, and 1 part store-bought ready mix concretepic rel:blue layer would be fillgreen layer would be a large rock/sand/cement grout mixyellow layer would be our local made mix diluted with pre-bagged ready mix concreteorange top layer will be 1 part small rock local mix to 1 part pre-bagged ready mix, with an extra dash of sand and portland cement.ideally each layer would be poured within 30-60 minutes of the previous layerpink is cinder blockforgot pic*
next question. how do i glue angle iron to cinder blocks?
i have access to tons of half gallon* vodka bottles, 1lb propane cans, paint cans, tin cans, and tires. will that work as fill?
>>81403>ideally each layer would be poured within 30-60 minutes of the previous layerIt won't work, you want it to be 6 feet tall with vert. You'd need a crew of people and the layer thing is wonky. You don't need to worry about rock mixes. You guys have magnesium floats, which is what makes it smoother. You have them right?Skip this mixing stuff you're going to exhaust yourself. Get your premixed Quikcrete bags and just use that over rebar, add a scoop of Portland for every bag if you want that's it. You are making this more complicated than it needs to be.
>>814071. neighbor has a concrete mixer2. we have access to many cheap laborers who work for weed (gathering rock/sand, mixing concrete, cleaning tools, etc)3. i can only haul so much concrete in a 4cyl truck, and i am reducing my cost from $6 per 100lbs to $2 per hundred pounds....i may be able to get a pallet of concrete delivered. 40x$6 = $250 ... that will save a lot of gas and time. neighbor with big truck also offered to help4. were using 2x4 screwed to skateboard deck pieces as trowels.5. apparently we have a contractor coming out to help.any recommendation on concrete gloves? dollar store dish gloves? 3pack of rubber dish gloves for $10 at shartmart?
>>81407also it will be near vert, not vert. its a quarter for blasting airs.im using a trackpad rt now and it double clicks everything instead of single clicking, wtf
ill have like a week to gather materials, prep and get drunk before the actual pour
>>81411>4. were using 2x4 screwed to skateboard deck pieces as trowels.Anon you worry me more with every post. Let's forget the idea of the gas powered concrete mixer and the ton of water you brought with you and your army of workers. You don't want to just use wooden trowels, finishing concrete so it gets smooth requires more specialized tools. You need magnesium floats and then steel and you don't make it sound like you have this stuffMore importantly, if you are actually getting a truck to deliver bags, why don't you just get a pump truck so you can avoid mixing over a yard of concrete? Just get a truck those guys will go anywhere they don't care.
>>81414yeah, maybe on the next pourhow much money for a magnesium float?how much money for a cheap float at the flea market?what tools should i look for at the flea market?i have more time than money
>>81416Are you doing this on purpose?
>>81416>Are you doing this on purpose?doing what on purpose?ill get a concrete truck on the next big pour, but until then ima do it the way i feel is bestand of course 'the way i feel is best' is greatly influenced by yourself and other friends and forum posters.
all this info is making me want to build some DIY desu, but all of my friends who used to skate quit and doing a solo mission seems tough. I've met a handful of dudes at the new park i've been skating but i don't know how down they would be to randomly build some spots/if they're experienced at it, although I guess that last part is ironic since I have no idea what I would be doing and just running off youtube videos and info from here/slap/wherever. should I do it bros?

>>81357Yeah, I know. Have seen some people try and justify it by saying guys like Mullen and Daewon have done the same shit with picnic tables. The difference being, Berra isn’t doing shit like a kickflip primo to tre flip out. >>81425thanks for the motivation! I think the biggest hurdle is basically i'm scared to fail. ironic since we all skate and it is inevitable, but just seeing my failures physically manifest itself into something unskateable would be weird, but it seems like such a pure aspect of skating, building something yourself and having others skate it as well, i can't help but feel motivated to go out and do something. I've already got the perfect spot in mind for some DIY, i think im gonna take the plunge bros
>>81424I always get curious asking other dudes at the park their shit but I can never break off from buying the shit I usually do
>>81484I've been trying to learn more board control recently when it comes to really sharp banks and getting slappies on to curbs and whatnot and I really think that kind of thing widens what is and isn't skateable to you. It always wigged me out how some guys can do that weird sorta no comply, sorta wallride, sorta slappy thing OVER concrete barriers and up walls with really small or sharp banks, but now that I'm getting the hang of it I can see more potential in spots and see just how "bad" a DIY spot can be while still being really fun.Speaking of which, I watched this really good documentary on a classic shitty-but-great Bristol skatepark recently: https://youtu.be/XhT8avFXVZY
>>81411>2. we have access to many cheap laborers who work for weed (gathering rock/sand, mixing concrete, cleaning tools, etc)>any recommendation on concrete gloves? dollar store dish gloves? 3pack of rubber dish gloves for $10 at shartmart?>5. apparently we have a contractor coming out to help.what is this fucking boomer redditor overengineered yet poor as fuck dad project bull shit that im reading. just build a fucking deck bro, your wife will be much happier with you, you might even get a blow job

not for nothing but pretty sure this dude is a BMXer judging by the dirt floor in his original pic
>>81377Oh Chirst, I remember that.I honestly wonder how you can make skateboards and shoes any better at this point. I feel like we've reached a stage where everything is as optimal as physically possible, beyond using prohibitively expensive materials to make things more durable and lighter. That said, I really wish someone would rethink helmets and pads. They've basically not changed since the 70s, especially helmets. Someone needs to figure out how to make some that don't trap as much heat.
>>81425what is that final layer of smooth stuff they lay down in the video? @10:48
>>81510i think it was an actual little kid but who knows
>>81510are only skateboarders allowed to build ramps?
>>81514yes. yes they are
>>81514idk about that but in middle school we would make dirt jumps out in the desert. I would think for a bicycler that would be more practical and way easier than renting a cement truck and all that, especially since all you would really need is a few shovels and water.
>>81524>I would think for a bicycler that would be more practical and way easier than renting a cement truck and all thatpeople dont rent a cement truck for a quarterpipe dude.also it was a rhetorical question, BMXers do concrete diy shit but its less common. while ago a homie helped out a few BMXers with a ramp because they were making it concrete so that skaters could use it also.
>>81481I always want another Polar but I hated my last one, an 8.5.
>>81580Ive always improved most on Polar boards and this one is almost perfect for me.I'm gonna try a crail G027 next because on paper, its my ideal board. Too bad Girl/Chocolate graphics are bad
>>80657Guys I have a large skateboard-like longboard deck. It's possible to do tricks on it, but I'm a downhill longboarder. This year I want to actually learn some tricks. How do I start if I want to do it on a large skateboard deck w/longboard trucks?
>>81623just get a complete from a shop and get a shop deck so you aren’t shelling out. Trying to do what you’re doing is only gonna result in failure.
>>81627I forgot to mention that I don't want to ride an ordinary skateboard with little wheels, because it's barely better than walking. Longboarding is as fast as biking.
>>81623idk man try some moves
>>81632You aren’t required to have small wheels on your board my man. Maybe you should do some research on skate wheels or something because you are not going to be able to do shit on a longboard. What is your actual goal anyways? If you just wanna go fast and do ollies just get a zip zinger or something.
>>81623>>81632It would depend on the type of longboard you have. If you have one with drop through trucks, you probably aren't gonna be doing shit.Your probably gonna have to get a big dancing longboard to do anything noteworthy, but even then, nobody is going to think your cool except for the gay koreans who longboard dance on instagram
>>81632I forgot to add to >>81651>Longboarding is as fast as bikinglmao your fucking delusionalYou'll go half the speed with double the effort and you have to pick up your board at every curb because longboard ollies are trasht. ex downhill longboarder
>>81653>>81651yeah, I honestly don't know what he thinks he is going to accomplish trying to learn how to skate on a longboard. Like I said, I think the best choice he could make is simply learning how to ollie and the rest of the basic fundamentals of basic skating on a normal board, and just upgrade into one of those weird cruiser type boards people skate on these days with some 159s/139s depending on how wide his board is gonna be with some bearings that are going to keep him rolling smooth and some nice solid big wheels with a soft duro. all the "speed" of a longboard but you can actually pop up/down curbs, do mannys across shit, do 180s/kickflips/shove its over manholes, roll down some grass/dirt hills if he is feeling spicy ect.
>longboard fag is a retardwhoa who woulda thought
>be me, longboarder>slowly carving down the street >sashaying from side to side like a goddamn BOSS>wild curb appears .jpg>drag my foot behind me to stop, step off board, pick it up, walk up the curb, set it down, slowly push awayFeels like home, longboard bros
>>81702Why can't you even just do some half ass shit like a split second manual to nose.
Is it possible that some people are incapable of skating?I’m 25, and I went to the chiropractor just 2 weeks ago because my lower back was all jacked up. Couldn’t lay down without it hurting.Anyway he fixed it and I haven’t skated since today.I noticed that when I’m just riding around in front of my house and step off my board to stop, it seems to put pressure in that spot and it’s already a bit sore.Should I stop a different way, or am I fucked?
>sponsored by the most popular companies for having 2 tricks while being a black girl
>>81716Nothing wrong with that. Sponsorships should be given to people who will inspire others like them to skate (and buy more products, of course). Do you really want another Jagger Eaton?
>>81712Work on your core muscles more, anon. I was getting back (and other kinds) of pain at first, but eventually it eased with time. I've been a lazy fatass over Christmas, took a slam last weekend, and had lower back pain for a few days until I decided to do some crunches, legs raises and planks. Once your core muscles start to build up a bit and gain more strength, they'll take more of the pressure off your back.People often think skating is all legs, but your core is actually often doing more of the work.I don't know your level of fitness, but the core part of my routine is 3 sets of:20 leg raises20 twist crunches (both sides)Side planks where I bring my keen to my elbow 20 times/regular plank for a minute or longerI do other weighted exercises and push ups too which engage my core less directly, but those are my main core exercises. Skating and walking/running does the rest, but having good strength exercises definitely helps.
>>81716this chick is the fucking worst. i dont give a fuck if theres a token girl on every team from this point on and theyre best tricks are varial flips down 4 sets, but theres so many other better chicks out there than this bitch and this shit just makes its so fucking transparent that its really more about who you know than how good you are. like everyone knows that but it doesnt have to be so fucking obvious.
>>81411>were using 2x4 screwed to skateboard deck pieces as trowels.Bro just buy some trowels. The cheap chinkshit ones don't cost that much.

I haven't skated for like 3-4 years. Gonna go jump on a board tomorrow and see how I go. \Also i'm a mason, I lay concrete block for a living and occasionally work with concrete. I want to go meet some local guys and see if I could help them build some cool shit. I know most skaters are retarded and don't know shit about construction.
And what's good in skating these days? Last time I was really into skating it was all dudes doing wallies and slappies. That shit was cool
>>81712When I started skating again, I could only skate for like, 30-45 minutes then had to rest a few days because my back would hurt; like, where I could barely walk. After a few months, it stopped hurting and I can skate everyday
>>81743Wallies/wall rides are still cool, slappies never really went away. I think a lot of different kinds of skating is "in" right now. Quick feet tech ledge stuff, crusty unknown spots, midwest is booming, going fast and doing simple tricks with lots of power, gap/stair skating but with lots of style and flair, I could probably go on. Just depends on what you wanna see, I could link some vids if you have a certain style in mind

>>81781That's why she was put on team in the first place. Nowadays Supreme is more associated with white and asian nerds with more money than brains. >>81802Do average skaters care about that shit?
>>81803I think it's strictly an online phenomenon. Kind of like how if you were an alien who wanted to learn about video gaming culture, you would think everyone is a FTM tranny. Social media is the driver of what is acceptable in any given hobby.
