>>51Although Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on earth, K2 is much more dangerous to climb because of how steep it is
>>51it's not the ding-dong diddly same if it's not on /asp/
>>270oh no people can post about things other than wrasslin
>>51based, does anyone actually climb mountains here?
>>303it's no fun if i can't talk about how green boots is a dimeless shitter
I'M GLAD YOU ALL GOT THE NEW BOARD FINALLYI WAS PISSED WHEN /SP/ USED THEIR ONLY WISH WITH HIROMOOT ON BANISHING FUCKING MANDRAMA THERE WORST DECISION /SP/ EVER MADE
Someone has to do it soon, right?
>>51K2-fags out this is a Kilimanjaro board
>>51what's the point of climbing a mountain
haha just came here to see if there's a thread like this. Right now there's nothing interesting going on regarding polar travel so I may chill here for a while. Last time we ended a thread like this on /sp/ they ended the search for Ali Sadpara and team. The only update I can give is that Pakistani government promised to take care of his family which is like the first concrete acknowledgment of his accomplishments by the government.
>>51my urge to climb mountains is so damn high but i can't be bothered getting to know anyone who does it and it's too dangerous to do alone (also sort of cringe)also, anyone here ski mountaineering? That seem's interesting. Here's a good documentary about how stupid it is:https://youtu.be/QHVSeqzI1vUcan't wait to actually try it myself!
>>1622The top of it
>>1617my middle aged and out of shape parents climbed kilimanjaro, how hard can it be
>>143huh what do you mean?
>>1622To challenge your body and mind.
>>313green boots is a finna draw brother
>>51I'm interested on the effects low oxygen from high altitudes have on your brain. I remember a guy from the one documentary about competitive memory that the higher he goes, the faster he can memorize a deck of cars. It's really fascinating, honestly.
>>1657I've always done it with family members but half of the regulars are getting old, out of shape, and/or wagiecagie prohibits it a lot. It takes a lot of organizing on my part to get the gang together once or twice a year.
>>2128Can relate. I need a mountaineering bro
What mountains are you planning on climbing this year?
>>309yep - I run up them
>>309Well.. I've been up A mountain, if that counts
Are we including volcanoes?
Here is my goal to do this March/April, ideally. If the avalanche conditions aren't as shit as they are right now
WTF is this shit? Do I have to post here now instead of on /out/?
>>3118I think you could mountain stuff on both. Mountaineering is definitely an extreme sport, but it's also an /out/ activity through and through.
For me, it's Mount St. Elias.
>>51NEVER FORGET WHAT THEY TOOK FROM YOU
I wanna make a 3D platformer video game where you go around a big snowy mountain with a comfy little wooden cabin village here and there
>>3753They didn't take it though the mountains are still there and you can go there whenever
>>1622To become a goat.Bonus points for eating the grass on top and shitting everywhere
>>51>tfw the only mountains in my state are a 10 hour drive >everywhere close to you is flat farmland or swamps. feelsbad
>>1622to get to the other side
>>3772It's literally no longer there, because that's a volcano that has since blown its top. You can still go hiking there, and there are neat lava caves and stuff, but yeah.
>>1657There are some mountains that you can do solo without too much danger, just stay the fuck away from glaciers.
>>2769Ben Nevis, Scaffel Pike and Snowdon
>>1657I know that feel. Never had anyone to climb with and I'm kind of a scaredy cat anyway so I limit myself to easy scrambles at worst.>>2769I'll be in the Vegas area in a couple weeks, I was looking at bridge mountain, might be a bit tougher than usual for me though.Kind of want to do a trip to the wind river, tetons and yellowstone this summer, was looking at cirque of the towers, Mitchell or East Temple peak might be possible for me, only peak I might do in the Tetons is Table Mountain. But I'm quite scared of backpacking in grizzly country alone so this trip is very much still up in the air, at least the backpacking portions anyway.Definitely doing a road trip in southern new mexico and west texas this autumn, do some climbs in guadalupe, big bend and organ mountains.
I bought these fuckers with size according to the chart provided by official site and yet they still cause me fucking blisters and fuck up my toes.I have no idea what to do now because i seemingly cannot find proper shoe size anymore.
>>1622You become god or something, idk seems fun though
>not a single mountain in my countryit's over bros
>>3753I don't know who you mean by they, unless you are talking about mother nature.
>>51Has K2 had a Winter ascent yet? I know they've been trying the last few years.
>>1622there's a sense of accomplishment that comes with reaching the top, and a great view that makes you feel like a king.
>>3759like a hiking simulator?maybe it would work
>>5121Some mad lads did it last month
>>1657It takes time to get a solid crew of mountainbros, but it's worth it. Just start with smaller hikes together and then build up to overnighters and go from there. Male bonding is part of the enjoyment.
>>5282So as far as major eight-thousander milestones go, the only ones remaining are the K2 east face, and a full climb of the west face?
>>4580You buy before you try, you deserve to die.

why do fucking white people want to climb this? There is nothing up therethey spend thousands sometimes millions to get to the top of these stupid mountainsthey could be sending that money to africa, to help the starving childreninstead of trying to stroke their own ego
>>6084Mountain climbing is only a white people thing in America. In the rest of the world, people of every race climb if they happen to live near mountains. Look at both South America and Asia.
>>6095Yes, but the main difference is the affordability of free time. Those people in those countries are trying to escape the white capitalist system invading their countries, by moving higher in the mountains. They do not do it for recreational reasons, because they have to work every day of their life just to survive, some might not survive because of white deforestation and burning of forests (Brazil). The white person climbs it because of the labors of these marginalized and enslaved minorities, and then proceed into their countries to walk to the top to pretend they are God over these countries.ipso facto, white people are the only race who climbs it for their own ego boost, the rest do it to escape them and survive
>>1622to prove to yourself that you exist
>>51On 2019 I climbed pic related (Volcán Lanin, Argentina), my goal is to climb Aconcagua
>>2769Mt. Shasta and Mt Lyell.
We can all agree, if Whistler and Blackcomb were sisters, Whistler would be the slutty, party bitch that's suddenly not that pretty when you take off the rose-tinted glasses. Blackcomb would be the pretty, quite but powerful type that you could fall in love with.
>>5200I love strand type games
>>3759>>5200>>7651The Long Dark on steam, exactly what you're looking for.
>>1622because it's there
>>133This channel is a goldmine.
The FBI is trying to figure out if they need to budget resources to d&c /xs/.My thighs are starting to hurt from the shit I did at 11k ft this morning. We win.
>>309i want to get into mountaineering, but haven't yet
watching this in a dome imax theater is one of my top movie experiences of all time
>>9777Terrifying.this year I plan on climbing the so called "Morro dos Macacos" in the interior city of Monte Sião of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais
>>9888this one is pretty good for newer movies
>>133riding down the stream at 1:47 is awesome, what is the problem here?
>>9888>>10044So what are the best mountain climbing movies of all time?
>>1622To climb taller mountains
What makes Poles so superior at winter mountain climbing
>>11711they more goats than men
>>3753At least we have this to remember her byhttps://www.summitpost.org/mt-st-helens-pre-1980-eruptive-era/812780
>>10067there are various lists online. I didn't watch that many tho. Everest with Jake Gylenaal was pretty solid and the david lama stuff from red bull is too.
>>2769UK National Three Peaks, Coast to Coast, couple of 2000m+ mountains in Switzerland if the lockdown ease. Also going back to do the Tour Du Mont Blanc, got three days in last year but got scuppered by thunderstorms, plus most the refuges were closed due to covid.
Oh cool, this might actually be a good new board. How much would it be you reckon to pay that french guy who flew to the top of Everest in a modified chopper to fly you up there again just so you can say you've technically summited Everest?
>>1622What is life without climing?
So is poor Green Boots still in his cave or did someone actually have the dignity to push him down a ravine? I'm getting conflicting information. Also, I know you can't waste time with hypoxia and stuff but somebody couldn't have spared 5 seconds to take a photo of his face to confirm who it actually was?
>>2034Well, it's the easiest, isn't it? Not putting shit on your folks. I'd just have taken the lift up to see snow if Africa, myself
