You're not too fat to skate, but lay off the sugar.

You not to old to skate if you do squats on one leg still.

Skateboarding is 80% Mental, 10% Physical, 10% Send

Beginner Tip: Practice dedicated switch skating for a 1/3 of the time you skate

Trick Tip: Successful no pop ollies are a merger of lift generated from force parallel to the back trucks forward momentum, and creating pickup perpendicular from the ground on the front toe drag.

Skating alone is good for the soul.

Skate parks are a training ground, not a fashion catwalk

What’s the trick to ollie into manual?
>>
>>46401
Don't be afraid of falling backwards. Lean back more than you think you need to. Also pressing the tail towards the end of the ollie and not leveling out as much will help
>>
>>46401
On flat ground, roll with both your feet over the bolts. Hop and try to land in a manual. This gets you used to the act of 'landing' in a manual without just rolling into one. Then find a curb and ollie carefully so your back wheels land nearly flush on the pad. Of course don't hang up, but your balance will be thrown off severely if you land into the manual from a higher ollie. Ideally you'll land with such little impact that it basically feels similar to the hopping flat ground manny.

>100 dollar trucks
>Doesn't grind them
EVERY. SINGLE . TIME
I'm starting to think brands make things like this just to sucker in new skateboarders who think more money = better.
I see so many people who can barely roll down a bank on Flight or VX decks and its silly.
No offense to you Anon, you don't know any better, and if you have the money go for it i guess- its just such a weird thing to see and i see it all the time.
>>
>>46539
>pay $25 more for a deck that lasts 5x as long as a maple glue deck
>some poor sperg online spergs out because they can only afford wal mart boards
no one cares anon, no one will ever care.
>>
>>46539
Why does he need to grind his trucks? Why does he need to even ollie? Maybe he just wants to manual all day. There is no problem with that. Everyone that posts here is an adult, I'll blow 500 dollars on a skateboard and 300 dollars on skate shoes if I want and I dare some heroin addict real skater™ from New Jersey to say anything about it.
>>
>>46540
>>46541
you guys are so ready to be defensive and fight you don't see what i'm saying. It has nothing to do with people buying them more so than it has to do with the companies .
If you have money- buy what you like but I'm just curious what led that anon to buy those trucks if a shop worker was like "yeah man if you really want to skate good you need titanium" or what was it
>>
>>46542
get a job stop being a jealous poor crybaby
>>
>>46542
Well first of all an all titanium truck will last forever compared to an aluminum truck. Baseplate holes on aluminum trucks get oval-shaped over time. The axles bend. This won't happen with Theeves. This makes Theeve based. Judging from the Ben Degros they don't grind well and they literally spark on contact with some metals and stick like glue (without wax). So anon is probably putting them into perfect use. VX deck and Theeve trucks could last 100 years.
>>
Just ignore the retards that tell you to ride shitty streets and do dangerous and illegal stuff to be a real skater. Chances are they're talking shit because they're permanently injured and want you to be too or they can't even skate at all and are just repeating some dumb stuff they saw online.
>>
A lot of the skaters that "went big" like Heath Kirchart, Arto Saari, Jerry Hsu and many others are borderline retarded from slams, especially head slams. Dave Mirra literally killed himself because of debilitating depression from head trauma induced brain injury. That's not cool.
>>
>>46542
I use them mainly for transition. I bought them because they’re light af and look badass. In fact, Benny D is the main reason I bought them because in his video he straight up says they’re great for transition. You should really feel how these bad boys turn though, feels stable as a rock and smooth like butter. And they’re so light, its unreal. If you don’t know, now you know.
>>
>>46550
I'm guessing they turn pretty similar to Aces, except they have a lot more structural integrity. The ones you chose also look amazing, some of the non-titanium Theeve designs (TiKing?) are really ugly, probably because aluminum is soft.

10 (it's an old 80's fish shaped deck i got my hands on. basically just a cruiser but if I can't do a comfortable kickflip on it, I automatically hate it)

8.25. I know it'll slog my flip speed down, but I'm curious if the extra weight, surface area, and 'oomph' will feel more comfy on ramps, rails, stairs, and ledges. Only problem is I'd need new trucks with it and I don't really like to fuck with what works. I skated 7.75 for 12 years before moving up to an 8.

I had two. One was sick as hell on the inside and extremely low key way out in the country. Nobody knew about it except the local church kids. The park had no public hours and they only let you skate if you agreed to listen to their gay ass sermon. It was only open 4 hrs a week. session, bible lesson, session. Me and my friends would go there and chug beers in the parking lot and skate as much as possible before the sermon and then bounce. We would straight up mob this place. The layout was extremely gnarly for a little church park. They had a low to high doorway channel. The low was about 4 ft and the high was all the way to the ceiling about 10 ft high with a 6ft tall doorway in it. Going over that thing was truly fucked up. You could get buck on that 10 ft wall. I think one time someone found our beers in the trash can and we got banned
>>
>>46605
That blows they were so pushy. My place is super chill. They only do the sermom thing once a week and thats after they provide a free meal. I'm not religious but I find theology interesting. They don't seem to have a problem with the people that are only interested in free food and skating
Unfortunately the whole staff all got Covid, so it's closed for the time being.
The park is pretty sick, we also have a big vert pillar thing.

I have pushed myself to the limits with both Ventures and Thunders. To the point where I was pretty scared and out of my comfort zone. Here's my experience: Thunders will feel flimsier, like the board is going to flop away from your feet midair if your ollie is not 100% solid. Ventures feel very solid and inspire more confidence. Ventures worked better for me in the park. The catch is Thunders flip better. If I just had to ride the parking lot I would choose Ventures. If I just had to ride park I would choose Ventures. When bowls, big transition and hillbombs into play I'll start looking at Independent.

Started with 7.75. Stayed on 8 for years. Now on 8.25 looking at 8.375 and light 8.5 trucks. I don't see myself going larger, because I like skating flatground and large trucks really get in the way. However I would rather flip around large trucks than ride bowls, hit the foampit or hillbomb on a toothpick with loose trucks. Literally fuck that. Tony Trujillo did and still sometimes does 139, loose as fuck, super fast and flies straight off the hip in concrete parks or rolls in the deep end of a pool. It actually looks really good, so don't listen to the idiots telling you that you need massive trucks to do this type of thing. One thing I feel is like if I try something that's out of my league, then a narrow setup is easier to bail out from, whereas a boat of a setup could get tangled in my feet and fuck me up, anyone ever felt that?
>>
>>46698
And if you're going with Ventures put some Bones hard bushings in them because the stock bushings are garbage and feel dead.

Nose has more weight and surface area so that tricks are easier to level out. Tail is shorter with a sharper steepness for a stronger pop.
>>
>>46740
>why nose is bigger than tail

they designed it like that to catch your foot more, to help with tricks

>smaller tail

They designed tails smaller so they snap quicker, allowing tricks to be more responsive. Think of it this way, if the tail is bigger, it will take more effort for it to hit the ground as it gets popped off the ground, but if it's smaller, it's generally easier to pop the board. Not all boards are like this.

It actually has more to do with whele base. Watch this video, Ben goes into greAT DETAIL

Few of these guys even made it to the trick part. You can ruin yourself with a car too if you do dumb shit. Actually retards nowadays seriously injure themselves even with bicycles, they need helmet and kneepads just to ride around on a bicycle. Whereas when I was young we were riding shirtless, in shorts, downhill with a friend on the handlebars with no bicycle lane. People are just retards nowadays and skateboarding literally disproves evolution and proves genetic entropy. We are headed towards a universe heat death.

There's an anesthetic to a broken in deck. Kind of like scuff marks on guitars. Some people like that look and even pay to 'relic' them. Except on a skateboard it can be a reminder of skill. I remember my tail always looking super clean because I couldn't properly turn into a tail slide, now that it's all scuffed up, it's just a reminder that I can do it. Or a sign I haven't practiced enough, like smith grind marks. It's a personal thing, I don't give a single fuck about what others think of my board or what their board looks like. They all break in a month anyway.

sounds like you have too much weight on the tail or you're leaning back too much. stay centered over the board with your shoulders. if you're body is almost straight upright over your back truck when you're doing this, that's why. you should be leaning towards the nose from your hips up.

If you skate for an hour everyday, you should have all those pretty comfortable in about a month. Keep doing your tictac reps. Also no shame in working on your pushing. Try to get them to a causal sway. None of that 'push-push-ride'. Riding is the easy part, spending half the time balancing on one foot while propelling yourself forward with a push can always be improved on. Helps you build a solid sense of balance for that leading foot, which will guide those pivots and tictacs, and be the foot that catches the shuvit. In other words, just keep riding and your balance will continue to get better. My biggest advice for beginners is practice pumping from the flat of a miniramp (if you're fortunate enough to have a skate park that isn't busy.) You'll wear out fast so don't over do it, but your legs will get stronger and your balance will improve exponentially because you've got to constantly shift your weight to match the curve of the ramp.
>>
>>47045

>>
>>47046
Same logic applies, you've got to build up the muscles you'll be standing with the most weight on. Pump tracks are pretty rare, but if your park has one, it's one of the best things to ride on to build up front foot strength and balance. You'd just skate it switch as well in this case. https://i.gifer.com/DdU8.gif
>>
>>47045
I am pretty comfortable pushing at speed and can fairly easily ride across a parking lot or down a slight hill on just my lead foot (doing it switch is alright but less comfertable).
But when I try and lift the nose it just flies into air lol, honestly can't even practice tic tacs without losing balance. Maybe I'll work on how I am standing.
>>
Anyone have any idea as to why my board is razoring this way? Trying to figure out if it’s bad technique, crooked trucks, or a warp in the tail.
>>
>>47059

because when your popping foot is snapping the tail, the toeside naturally is the last part to hit, and causes it to wear at an angle. you can do front shuvs to even the shape out perfectly.
>>
>>46834
why do people not commit, nothing bad can happen if you do.

because people who love indys, shill them like nothing else. I don't hate them, but they have fanatic fanboys for some reason. Ain't nothing more stable than ventures with some doh doh black bushings though. 250lb dudes ride them because everything else feels like a wet noodle when you're that big.
>>
>>47058
put your arms up in the air to balance when lifting the nose, use your back leg as like a hinge or spring, and lean forward from your hips up. if you have a stiff back leg, don't have your arms up high to balance, or don't lean forward to keep your shoulders over the board... you will have problems like this.
>>
>>47059
looks like you are doing certain maneuvers/tricks that just wear that side. or if you are tail dragging to when you come to a stop, you are leaning the trucks to that side when doing so. dragging on kickturns to one side will do that too.
>>
>>47072
>keep your knees bent
Beginner question: is there any situation where NOT keeping your knees slightly bent is advantageous for keeping balance/landing a trick?

Is that just the secret to not slipping out horribly, even when just riding around, is to have your knees slightly bent at all times?
>>
>>47128
you never want your knees locked out straight. your knees are the shock absorbers. bent knees = low center of gravity, which obviously mean easier to balance and make fine motor skill movements. also, it helps you to feel the terrain better. now, I'm not saying to ride around squatted low all the time, that would look silly, but always have a slight bend in your knee, ready for it to compress even lower at any time.
>>
>>47128
not for me. Iook at surfers they always have their knees bent. Get into this habbit, you might feel stupid at first, but once you get the feel, your accuracy will be better, your balance will improve. try to relax.
>>
>>47030
>avoid
it's not a matter of 'if' you get hurt, it's a matter of 'when' you get hurt. so take your vitamins like a good boy and eat a healthy diet so that your body can bounce back from injuries better. also protip: you're less likely to have a serious injury if you don't weigh 200+ lbs

actually a leg or arm break is preferred over a wrist break due to there being less ligaments and tiny bone breakage. One clean snap is easier to heal than a bunch of tiny bones in the wrist.
Wear wrist guards if you're practicing on your own bros.
