kid at my park dislocated his wrist today. or at least that's what he thought. it was definitely jacked and he said it didn't hurt, so I guess it probably wasn't broken. the funny thing is he just sat to the side for like 10 minutes with his arm covered by his shirt before saying "can someone help me up? I really messed up my wrist." everyone was basically like wtf dude why didn't you say something. he didn't have either of his parents numbers and his phone was dead. I suspect maybe he just didn't want to tell his parents or something. his was definitely all scatterbrained and not thinking straight. eventually we convinced him that it would be best to call 911. first a firetruck came then an ambulance... amerifat things. thanks for reading my blog. stay safe lads.
>>
>>41153
oh and when he eventually got help to stand up, he just fell right back down. was definitely shook as fuck. he was a nice kid too, super cautious and just practicing his ollies and shit. I guess he fucked up a manual and that's what caused it.

Isn't an ambulance like retarded expensive in claptistan? Might have given the poor fuck a hefty bill to boot. Why did a fire truck show up tho? Don't they have call menus for that?

At our local (Netherlands) almost always some dude it willing to drive you to our city hospital. Seen it happen multiple times. Though it's just like a 10 minute drive so.

>>41252
Yeah, Vans are pretty much the standard. Vans do vary in quality though. There are the cheap canvas Vans that'll have a hole in them in no time from ollying and there are more durable and shock absorbent ones that last a lot longer and made of thicker, stronger material.

>don’t get anything smaller than an 8 unless you’re 12
Prior to like 2004, no pro rode anything larger than an 8. What is and is not ‘adult size’ is purely subjective.
>>
This is what happens when you let people think a no-comply or any variation of it is a trick.
>>
>>41297
It's not prior to 2004 anymore.
>>
>>41306
The point being that you can ride and ride well with whatever size you want. A 7¾in deck isn’t gonna hold you back.
>>
I know we're not supposed to like Nikes but I just got a pair and they actually fit like a glove. The Emericas I had before were too wide around my ankle, but very narrow near my toes. Very strange shape on those. I had to lace them as tightly as possible so my foot wouldn't slide around in the back.
Why do "core" shoe companies make it so hard to like them? I'm conflicted.
>>
>>41309
True, but it's still safer if he got at least an 8.
>>
>>41306
>Dave Bachinsky 7.5 (2020)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNfj43h01KQ
>>
>>41310
Well yeah nike/converse are sick, because they have the funds to put into development. Of course they make nice shoes. It's just that they don't do shit for skateboarding and are only in it for profit. Core companies make a lot of good shoes too though, just those specific emericas weren't for your foot, just like some nike ones wont be as well. Es, etnies and emerica are probably the best "core" brands too, they're under one distributor as well, and have some shoes that are better than nikes, depending on what your preference is. You just have to find the right ones.
>>
>>41311
If an entire generation of beginners could learn on a 7.5, so can he. Honestly, smaller boards are easier to learn flip tricks with.
>>
>>41312
Ok, and?
>>
>>41314
This argument goes both ways. With getting an 8 he'll just have an easier transition when he wants to jump to a bigger size later, or wont have any at all if he wants to stay at 8. The vast majority of people don't ride under 8. Stop acting retarded.

ambulance ride can be pretty expensive in the US, usually insurance will cover most or all of it but sometimes they can fuck you around if they deem it was unnecessary and an ambulance with EMTs was not needed to get you to the hospital. My local skatepark is directly across the street from the hospital so even if someone does get hurt their friends could help them limp to the ER.
People are weird about when they'll go to the ER or call for help. I saw some kid slam his head and instantly go into a fencing pose while a huge gash in his head was spilling blood all over the pavement and his friends didn't want to get help then on the flip side of that I offered to help a guy who broke his ankle and he wanted an ambulance to take him the 100 feet to the hospital instead of letting me help him into my car and take him right to the door.

please stop being a fucking boomer retard. 8 is industry standard at this point, probably more so 8.25. recommending a grown adult start on a 7.75 in 2021 makes no fucking sense. companies hardly even make decks like that anymore so your options of what you want are severely limited.
you can talk all the "back in the day" shit you want. none of that matters now granpa.
>>
>>41376
>fuck you, do what they tell you!
What a conformist. People ride wide decks because the skaters they’re inspired by do. All I’m saying is sub-8 isn’t a “kiddy deck”, and that he should test different sizes to see what works for him. Stop being a sheep
>>
>>41377
lmao you sound like your stuck in middle school. no wonder your recommending child and women size decks. you never grew up

Huh when you say it like that it makes sense, then I picture a fire truck dropping one dude off at the ER and its weird again. Our firefighters come to medical stuff to but just to help out on scene, never as transport. And usually not for stuff like that. Police escort medical personal though and also might help out. That's pretty common.
>>41338

>ambulance ride can be pretty expensive in the US, usually insurance will cover most or all of it but sometimes they can fuck you around if they deem it was unnecessary and an ambulance with EMTs was not needed to get you to the hospital. Dang sounds like playing roulette. When you come through the ER here you can expect to pay around 400€ (max) for 'own risk' and all expenses on top on that are always payed by the insurance. If you cant pay that the gov will help you out.

>y'll go to the ER or call for help. based and mpmdpilled, I use regular mode + glycerol but I wonder if the stim version + smooth would be best for skating

you mean you literally just got it? id ride it on the sidewalk first before going to a park. but just go really early so its empty if you insist.

ALSO!
i stopped by my local shop earlier and the owner was freaking out again. apparently theres going to be another bump up in prices. because of lumber prices, boards are going to be even more expensive. if you guys want to stock up do it now. we arent going back to $50 decks anytime soon. i saw April decks going for $70 just now. hes worried sales will crash down.
>>
>>41524
find a block of concrete and just get comfortable. do spins, tick tacking, balancing on nose and tail. Stay away from the park or don't, but you should get comfy on your board before you go. I'm not saying don't go to the park, but you're going to get fucked up if you try anything on transition with no board balance. Have fun, most important mind set to have.
>>
Has anyone tried wasted paris decks?

Drilled extra holes in a spare baseplate so I have an adjustable wheelbase now. Can go in an inch.

I need a pair of trucks. low/mid/high? Usually ride on 56mms.
>>
>>41572
does truck height make any difference?
>>
>>41466
start off doing it really slow and almost place all four wheels on the ground. like lean way down at first. then do it incrementally faster and let go of the board higher.
>>
>>41573
Low trucks are more stable, good for street and tech. High truck offer sharper turns, good for transition.
>>
>>41573
that's why I'm asking
>>
>>41576
If you ride your trucks loose, you might want mid because of the possibility of wheel bite.

I feel much better when I just skate for 30 minutes every day. if you had a long break away from skating and are returning, trying to do hours of skating from the start is obviously gonna result in lots of down time. you gonna gradually work your way back up. I tried skating for like half a day the first two days back after years of not skating, I was down for like a week each time because my ankle felt like it had a torn tendon or something crazy. instead, now I'm skating for like 30 minutes before work, and the pain is still there the next day, but it's not bad enough to where I can't skate if I wanted to, and I feel decent with a day break inbetween. you gotta slowly train your body again.
>>
>>41573
>>41572
Absolutely. I grew up riding lows for the majority of my skating with like 51mm wheels. had to have tight trucks even then to avoid wheelbite when landing down stairs and stuff. everyone should have "hi" trucks. you can even get wheelbite easily on hi trucks with 56mm wheels if you ride really loose or don't have barrel bushings. I ride venture hi with 97/98duro bushings and 52/53mm wheels, and I'm lighter than most people too.
>>
>>41572
>>41573
you will wheelbite easily if you have a low truck with 56mms. I would just get indy standards or hollows based on if you want something light or heavier.

Or We fucked up somewhere along the way?

I like both, although I have a soft spot for the former.

Also, Europeans tend to know exactly what's wrong with America unlike Americans and furthermore, they have generally speaking a better picture of what's going on in the rest of the world too and it doesn't have to do solely with the education system here.

My wheels stick out maybe half an inch or more than the deck. thoughts on how this looks?
>>
>>41602
it does matter. obviously not as noticeable if you're riding 52mm wheels and under, but 54mm and up you need all the mm of clearance you can get. think about it, 1/8" of riser pad give you 3mm of height. so 3mm of truck clearance makes a setup with a 55mm wheel have the same clearance as that of one without a riser and 52mm wheels. now if you're running softer wheels, wheelbite is way more risky. nothing like eating shit because of wheelbite when hailing ass down a hill .
>>
File: IMG_0438.jpg (1.85 MB, 3264x2448)

I made this setup for speed on shitty pavement when I'm just exploring around and going long distances. I can still bust big ass ollies to get over anything I need to. Surprisingly, it doesn't feel that heavy once you're moving. 3/8" OJ risers give me the same amount of lean without wheelbite as my setup without risers and 52mm wheels because the risers work out to 9.5mm. When I wear these wheels out I'm gonna experiment with 1/2" risers and 65mm wheels. the speed and grip difference is huge and I have zero vibration in my feet. It's been just as fun hitting some hills on this as skating my normal setup.

red pill me on skate shoes. Why not just buy cheap off name brand shoes that look like skate shoes? You could slap some goo on them. Or you can buy a shoe with another mans name on them.
>>
>>41669
well it's gotta be made of suede or leather or else it's gonna fall apart. then the bottom has to be flat, but with decent tread that won't wear away almost immediately. then you would hope that the stitching isn't in terrible spots so it doesn't come apart really quick.

when you consider that you can easily find legit skate shoes on sale for <50, it doesn't make sense to buy much else imo. slap (oh nooo the boogeyman) does have a thread about non-skate shoes that are good for skating: https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=99179.0

nordstrom rack has really cheap skate shoes. I've bought a couple pairs from there recently. just search for skate shoes: https://www.nordstromrack.com/shop/search?query=skate+shoes

I also found cheap tyshawns from adidas' official ebay.

>>

I generally like Real. They make solid boards, but their shapes do get funky with size and they neglect to mention it, its something you've gotta look out for. For example an 8.06 has a really pointy tail. I love their Full SE shape myself. At least with that I know I'm getting a blunter shape.
>>
>>41669
I'll gladly redpill you on this. For like 5 years, I thought I was smart buying those $30 wal-mart Airspeed shoes and Khole's Vans, Hawk, and DC shoes. However, my feet were hurting all the time, and I was blowing through shoes every 3 weeks, and I'm pretty sure the padding was made of cardboard. Well eventually I caved in and bought some $80 adidas. They felt so fucking comfy and they lasted me 4 months of skating. It turns out, I was paying MORE money skating low quality shoes that would hurt my feet.

Protect your fucking feet. Don't skimp out on buying the high quality shoes. They'll last you longer, and will have proper padding. $80 is still an absurd price for shoes you're going to destroy over time, so I get mine on sale from Tactics. You can usually find $80 quality shoes for $45-$65. The colors tend to be ugly as shit but, fuck it. It's more about the quality of material. I'll never buy cheap shoes again.
>>
>>41669
you can buy name brand shoes for less than 50 bucks consistently because they go on sale all the time. personally I mostly go for adidas, they are the most durable and comfortable from my experience - suciu, busenitz, tyshawn, all good. other brands I've tried - emerica, etnies, vans, nike - pretty hit or miss.

skateboarding is hard as fuck. re learning this shit is insane when you're in late 20's. even riding fakie is sketchy as fuck, literally like picking up a board for the first time feeling. today i just pushed around for an hour, fast, carving like a hippie, do ollies, faster and faster. everything feels so sketchy going fast.

thinking back I remember I ollied down 7 stairs when I was 15. probably a 5 feet tall, and 10 or 11 feet long. is anyone else picking up skating again?

I get all wobbly sometimes on my board, my legs are more stiff, but it's getting better, i keep telling myself i'll get there, i'll get there, just baby steps, go easy on yourself, keep pushing. I forget if the fear goes away. I hope it does.
>>
>>41738
>>41741
Skating for ~15, then taking a 5-10 min break. Some of the time is spent doing easy chill shit. Someone asked me to film them for half an hour. Didn't skate non stop for 6 hours obviously.

>>41739
It is, but I'm not going every day obviously. Like 2 times per week. Physically accomplish it is funny, because right now I literally feel dead. Had to lie down for 2 hours, and now I can barely sit on my chair because I slammed my ass on the same spot 3 fucking times.

>>41765
I'm thinking of changing to bronsons because they have a cool racecar type theme.
>>
>>41766
It will get better every day you skate. Funny enough for me... the fear is GONE completely. I used to have fear when skating despite getting pretty damn good, now I have none and I just enjoy the small things. I have to stop myself from trying to do things too fast before I'm ready. I guess that has to do with all the lost time.

What is your opinion on helmets, pads, etc?
>>
>>41832
Wear wrist guards as often as you can, your wrists will be taking impacts during most of your falls
Wear knee pads if you're skating vert
I never really found a use for elbow pads, haven't banged up my elbow once while skating
Wear a helmet if you plan on skating anything that isn't just horizontal flat ground, nothing like the board slipping out under you and banging the back of your head against a metal beam to make you wish you had a helmet on.
>>
>>41832
They will prevent injuries.
THat one time you over compensate a turn and slip out, fall and land on your elbow. These are the dumb falls that fuck you up. I think wearing armor shows you're chasing gains. Once you get better you can take it off.

It's based.

I always wear a helmet and knee pads but I'm sure I look like a dipshit. Doesn't really matter I usually go to the skate park at 6:30 or 7am when no ones there and skate the bowl and trans ramps then make it home in time to check into work at 9. If I'm just cruising or skating flat I don't think there's much of a point of to it but whatever.
>>41835
I agree with your first point
>Once you get better you can take it off.
that's where you lost me, once people get better they're generally more comfortable doing bigger and bigger things. I get that there's an appearance to keep up and its considered uncool but it blows my mind how few pros don't wear a helmet at all. A beginner is never gonna have to worry about slamming trying to trick an 8 stair but even the best can very easily fuck themselves. I can only wonder what the full extent of damage done with a career of blows to the head like that adds up to.
