>>253Just carry a deck around and pretend to be a skater boy.
Learn to roll, try skating into grass at high speed a few times and learn how to keep moving with the fall. Falling only hurts if you slam into the ground instead of keeping your momentum. Skating faster actually helps with this.Don't try a trick down something that you don't have on lock on flat.If you aren't good at flat then you're just a shitty skater, hands down. Nobody cares about you tossing your carcass down a huge gap if you can't do an interesting trick with some good style. play more skate, skate flatground more. Good thing about skating flat is you can't get wrecked.if you get a sprain then take a few days off. you're way more likely to get hurt badly if you're already hurt so bad that your normal range of motion is off and you have to do your tricks differently.just skate a lot and git gud. skate flatground more until you don't look like a kook.
>>253When you're learning a trick in skateboarding, you're really learning 2 different things. 1. How to do the trick, 2. How to bail the trick. You should learn how to bail safely before you try anything outside your comfort zone. Rails are a pretty good example of this. You've gotta bail a ton of times before you can get a consistent "safe" bail. And when you have a "safe bail" you can work your confidence up over time to dial it into the trick. By then, you'd have done it so many times you can intuitively tell when to bail and when you'll be locked in. Of course, sometimes shit happens. Misjudge your speed, try to over compensate, someone put too much wax on the rail the night before. Shit happens, and it will happen. Just hope the severity of your slam isn't too bad, and crawl your way back.

>>8644> know some pretty great skaters who are bad at kickflipsVery true. Just because you can't figure out one basic trick doesn't mean you can't be legendary skateboarder. A good example is David Gravette. Here's his nollie flips https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NfDxBpEOyA
If you're afraid of skateboarding you'll never be good. This isn't your kind of sport. I've been busting my ass on a board since I was 8 years old

you learn how to fall, and so most falls that would wreck a normal person you can most likely handle and recover as you will fall a LOT learning to skate. But there are those falls that you CANT control, like a bad headslamhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtPMjvwGwno

I got to try longboarding once and it seems more stable then normal skateboard but still felt really risky. You go high speed and hit a small pebble, it is all over.

Skateboarding maids is a really strange idea. Especially one to have this much content. Is it some kind of anime, like that one about schoolgirls with tanks?
>>15433nah it's just really sick
>>2460oh shit hey nerds I made $100 off that skit>>15350It was for the 2019 /v/GAs, /v/'s vidya gaem awards showhttps://vidyagaemawards.com/previous-years
>>15728Hah, haven't been on /v/ for a while. Almost forgot they did that sort of thing. Still skate in that get-up?
>>14363That isn't true. the bigger wheelsize on longboards makes all the difference, pebbles are usually just skipped over. if it's less than 1/2" in size, you'll notice it was there, but the super soft trucks will just twist until the wheel has to go over whatever was obstructing you. It can unsettle the board, leading to speedwobbles/deathwobble, but it usually doesn't. Skateboards and longboards ride completely differently.
>>15877The tenth one just aired yesterday actually, they put a lot of love into them and I love working with all the people involved. I mostly did it as a reference to the #Got2BRadical meme from SGDQ that nobody remembered, but of course some autists from /v/ make their own boogeymenIt might make a comeback since as many anons like >>13387 have said my skating isn't great and I can show off how I've improved, but also get fucked I was skating in a dress in January with a blindfold
>>1049kill yourself
>>253You learn how to fall once you've been skating for awhile. How else can you explain skaters taking hard hits that look like they would shatter normal people? I've taken massive slams in bowls and down stairs, never ever broken anything. Most aren't that lucky, but breaks are rare and the most common ones I've seen are from weird ankle rolls from big drops and the occasional snapped arm from catching yourself with your hand instead of tucking and rolling. Two things are important. Anticipate tucking and rolling when you fall, try not to catch yourself with your hands because it makes a bad habit. Also, when you roll your ankle, just try to fall instead of staying up to take weight off of it.
>>16341I would let you do a trick over me. I don’t mind if you land in my arms...
>>15999checkedIs there a point in learning to ride a skateboard instead of a longboard if I am not planning on learning any tricks? I like the idea of skate/longboarding but so far it didn't feel safe to me at all.
>>16658I like doing kickturns, speed checks and manuals so I’d rather get a skateboard. Its fun to ride down hills and go up driveways then kickturn back down the street, I feel like I’m surfing.
>>16341Fun night. You can't see your feet in a frilly lace dress either

>>253idk I am not 16 anymore
>>1767It took me 2 years of trying every day all day and night I was awake and not in school back in the early 2000s. I have some friends who learned it in a few weeks, and some people who learned it in like 3 months. But those people probably got kinda good at skating before trying kickflips. My advice is to learn rolling ollies and a few different variations of rolling shove-its (try em fakie if you have to). Then when you get comfortable with the idea of the board leaving your feet and rotating, landing back on and riding away you're ready to try kickflips. The trick to kickflips is all in the front foot flick. It is an awkward motion you have to do where you flip your foot almost completely upside down (you will find that bending your knees helps this be possible) and scrape the material of your shoe harder than an ollie diagonally toward the corner of the nose. In order to get a good flick you have to pop hard to make the board rocket a bit. Timing is key, the thing people really have a hard time with is when to time the flick compared to the pop (flick like half a second or more after the pop imo). If you flick just right it will make the nose of the board go slightly lower so the kickflip won't rocket. Ultimately at first you will suck at this but the idea is that after those things combine the tail will "suck" up to your back foot for a perfect back foot catch, then your front foot will go on second and you land and roll away like an alpha chad.
>>14363Pussy. I literally bomb gravel hills with my longboard where the rocks are 1-2 inches diameter
>>1767do 100 every morning
>>22493>longboard
>>16658I feel like you should learn how to ride a skateboard first then get a longboard, if you want to avoid hurting yourself. BTW longboards are WAY more dangerous
>>22496I started skateboarding in 2001 and I only have a longboard because a coworker sold it to me for cheap a few years back. I use it mainly as transportation to ride out to my local skate spot.
>>22496longboards are great if you know how to use them
>>22498gotta agree with thispretty much everyone i've ever known who's been seriously hurt on a board was a longboarder

>>925Nah, she still has time to tuck and she's eyeballing her landingshe'll be fine
>>5816>Good thing about skating flat is you can't get wrecked.this is the only thing you said that is kinda untrueesp. because combined with the concept that faster = less hard falls, and flat skating for practice is frequently done at lower speeds... and with tricks you're not 100% comfortable withyou absolutely can get rekt doing flatit is harder though
these skate maids are cuteneeds to improve the shoes tho
>>22788You're not gonma see your femur poking out ur thigh doing kickflips on flat. You absolutely can skating bowls and handrails. Your definition of wrekt is a rolled ankle.
>>253Learn how to fall and bail. This will help you to fuck yourself up less when skateboarding.Don't skate. This will help you to avoid fucking up yourself when skateboarding.
>>22498>>22514how the fuck do you injure yourself on a longboard just bail out you fucking retards to me jumping on a rail/bench is 1000x more dangerous and lethal than bombing an average hill with no safety gear
>>1333Be strong. Be useful. Don't get bullied. Use mouth guard.
>>13778> that vidthis is why you lean forward and compress your legs when you land. the dude should have kicked that out first of all, and second of all, he landed while leaning back.
>>23814Broken toe, actually. My definition of wrekt includes any injury that takes you off the skateboard for more than a couple months.
>>23824most longboarders don't really know how to bail because they just cruise & don't jump down shit but then they hit a rock going fast down a hill, get pitched and now they have a broken collar bone. i have seen it many many times. there are a lot of normalfag sports like this where everything is mellow and low impact and then out of nowhere you just fucking die. these are the same smug assholes who will harp on you endlessly for not wearing a helmet and then take a facedive right off the bike path. >jumping on a rail/bench is 1000x more dangerous and lethal kind of but you are at least aware of the danger and can be prepared for what you're getting into. compared to something like skiing where it's mellow and you never get hurt 95% of the time but then an avalanche happens and you fucking die. just last weekend 3 dudes got caught in separate slides. you hear that story over and over again every single winter.
>>24100yeah, you have a lot more control, and more importantly RESPECT for the danger you're putting yourself inwhereas with the other examples you gave, there's a false sense of securitydepends on what kinda person you are I guess... some people like being blissfully unaware of impending doom until the moment it squashes them...a lot of people are like that these days...
>>253Unironically, do a barrel roll. Sometimes I just roll a few of em out on a fall just to mediate any and all damage. Not afraid of falling from high/long stuff because of this magical movement. Also, sometimes it doesn't work.
>>26112>>253Definitely do some kind of roll. Reaching out with your hand and sort of trying to bring yourself to a full stop with it, as will be one's instinct, will fuck up your wrists real fucking bad. Bailing is a bit of an underrated skill.

>>20928>skater 2b is a Hoosier>I may have seen him around campusI know I've seen those thicc green wheels
>>253You got to pay to play OP, pay your dues
>>26687I did a little bit of judo as a kid and found it helpful years later when doing longboard. Makes rolling more natural. In judo we were taught breakfalls where we'd slap the ground. What I like about this is that my instinct isn't to use my arm to push myself from the ground but rather to just slap. I've had some cuts on my fingers but no broken arm or collar bone. You'll still get fucked up if you're not wearing thick long sleeves or if you do it wrong and nail your elbow against concrete.

>>33587If it's actually still causing you physical pain, you could get it checked out by a professional to make sure there isn't anything else wrong. Your ankles are obviously really important so I wouldn't try toughing it out or walking it off if you suspect it might be injured. If you're just mentally afraid of hurting yourself again then try doing some other tricks that don't involve whatever motion you hurt yourself with until you feel more confident on your board again. I rolled my ankle a couple weeks ago so BS Shoves kind of hurt to land but FS Shoves feel fine, since I've stayed in practice I just gotta wait for the physical pain to subside more
