Let's try this out. It would be great to have a quality general where we can genuinely discuss combat sports - MMA, kickboxing, bareknuckle, wrestling, etc. - without the threads being flooded & diluted by lonely losers. No UFC this weekend, but Beterbiev will likely be serving up a spicy heem against Yarde in the boxing world in a few minutes.

where do i find a rating system in kickboxing? there used to be the STAR System, but when i look up 'kickboxing rating system)' all i see is articles on gyms' websites explaining their belt systems (lol) or advertisements for online kickboxing classes (kek).i overheard my kb instructor mention different divisions in the sport, but do they only apply to my country (the netherlands)? or is this some top secret information only instructors/coaches/trainers possess?i want a resource where i can look up (former) competitors and see how high they rank. idek where to look.

Brendan. F*cking. Schaub.
Who do y'all got in the Izzy/Pereira rematch?Izzy is basically down 3-0 in 3 very competitive fights. I think we need to see Izzy come in with a more aggressive boxing style and mix in his top game better for him to win. Pereira just needs to keep shoring up the TDD and maybe work on his instincts when rocked/tired (hands come way down and little head movement).

>>133969I'm probably going to take the L, but opposite to the last fight, I actually think Izzy has a real chance if he fights with fewer emotions involved. I think he threw the last fight trying to trade punches with Poatan.
>>134118I think Pereira checking the low kicks and landing his own low kicks played a big role in reducing Izzy's mobility. When he was fresher, Izzy was pretty good with the footwork and very good with hand-fighting and intercepting in the clinch and close range. By the last round, he wasn't really doing any of that.

Are teeps to the knee really so ubiquitous in MMA? I wanna join a club but this shit really fucks you up permanently. It's good and useful in self defense but how do you practice it safely. All it takes is one retard to make your patella burst into treats
>>134240It's a high-injury-risk technique that no reputable gym is going to allow folks to throw with full power, similar to leg locks in BJJ. As long as you trust your gym culture, which you'll know if you do in the weeks and months before you start hard sparring (if they let you hard spar right away as a beginner, that's very likely a red flag), then you can be confident that your sparring partner isn't out to hurt you.
>>134262That's sensible. Ideally I could also look for Muay Thai, since unlike in MMA those are illegal Fuck I should just do something and not overthinkBy the way did you know they used to teach it to ww2 commandos
>>134279kek that's pretty basedmost if not all gyms offer at least 1 free class. I recommend trying out a few places and seeing where you feel most comfortable. one thing to look out for as you plan your visits is who might be teaching. some gyms are small and have the same instructor for beginner/advanced, or just a few instructors dedicated to beginner and advanced, respectively. other places have several instructors that rotate between all the classes. in the case of multiple instructors for the beginner classes, look up the instructors if you can and make sure you go on the day that the most veteran instructor is teaching as he is most likely the one responsible for setting the culture of the class/gym for that group of students.t. trained under Matt Serra, had like 8-12 instructors ranging from purple to black belts

>>134310how much training experience do you have?
>>134408Eh, more than most, but I wouldn't want sell myself as more than an amateur. My angle is basically the sport isnt in its best shape and due to that I feel like id still be able to maneuver in it if i act hard this year.
>>134424what are your goals? do you want to box as an amateur for fun, do you want to train for competitions, or do you want to go pro and get a few bags?
>>134426Competition for sure, pro would be the goal, but if i have to side step it and become a monster in open competition that wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.
>>134434yeah, Masters seems like the move with an ultimate goal towards Golden Gloves
>>134437Im looking at 2 gyms in my area. One is a pure boxing gym named Keppner, who was apparently known for boxing in the area, and the other is the SBG gym that forest griffen trained at when he won his ufc title. They apparently have a dedicated boxing instructor.
>>134439try a free class with both and see who you jive with and who isn't bullshitting you and who's taking more of an interest in your development and which gym has the better cultureculture fit is very important and applies to all of the above factors
Anyone have any experience with getting bullied at a gym? I study BJJ and I’m a likeable guy but I can be a bit sarcastic. Anyways I have no issues with anyone in the gym but these three friends that come in together are always trying to stick their fingers up my ass. They call it an “oil check” and get mad when I tell them to stop. They don’t do it to anyone else as far as I can tell but they get really aggressive and do it to me when I get a better position on them during a scramble. It’s starting to hurt me as they are fitting multiple fingertips in there. Any advice is appreciated.
How often do you have to replace the mounting hardware for your punching bag? I keep breaking springs or bolts every few months.

Hey guys I posted about getting oil checked all the time by 3 guys at my gym in this thread a few weeks ago. Does anyone have some serious advice? I told the instructor but he just waves it off and says I’m exaggerating. Yesterday after class I went poo and there was blood in it...I think one of those guys scratched the inside of my anus with their fingernails while oil checking me. Am I at risk of an infection or anything? I have more class tomorrow and I swore to god that they wouldn’t get the better of me but I honestly don’t know how much more I can endure here. I paid for a year of classes but it’s not worth the accrued damage to my asshole from these fucking guys. Anyways please some real advice would be appreciated. Are there any specific rolls or moves to reverse an oil check?
Been seing this image with a quote of Dana talking about how Mexico is going to be the next Brasil in MMASaying how soon we won't be talking about just one champion, but manyPersonally, i believe him but i reckon it will be a long long long timeWe are very into combat sports over here but Boxing and Football are still the main stuff, Yair didn't even get half the reaction that Brandon has been getting and no one knows Alexa nor IreneAnd after them there's only Rosas, Loco Aguilar, Jauregui, Zellhuber and all of them are barely UFC levelWithout figures there's no interest, without interest there's no development or new studentsWhat do you fags think?
>>136210I think whenever he's saying shit like that, it's because he's trying to inflate numbers in a market. I don't know how accurate it is, but I've seen several people say that Mexico is one of the last bastions of reliable PPV sales in general, relative to people just pirating a stream. So I'd put my money on his putting his money on it.
>>135581IV cheaters (typical muslims)
>>136210I think the introduction of the PI will at the very least facilitate more talent. Mexicans are known for being extremely hard workers and having toughness & grit, and those kind of intangibles matter more in MMA than probably any other sport. Yair and Brian Ortega are very talented, both are contender-level and could be champs on their best days. Moreno is of course great.I think we need a Mexican that can truly lead the nation, though. Then again, Canelo has no charisma and the entire country follows him so maybe it's just about being dominant for a while. The sad thing is the UFC probably doesn't want someone to be too much of a superstar because they gain too much leverage during negotiations and take control away from the front office.
>>136609Kaito is based. he's competing with RISE now right?

>>136996Speaking of which, as much as I like seeing MMA occasionally in a ring, grappling only matches in a ring are fucking retarded. I know they've got Kelly on a hardcore push, but a ring just has all the bad parts of open mat without the space to move.
>>137020I guess the good thing about the ring is it does force dominant control grapplers to attack from more angles since they can't rely on pinning against the cage for added leverage. I kind of liked how Suleiman kept resetting Kelly/Miura yesterday, which led to a couple of reversals & scrambles.Another way of looking at it is what kind of evolutions do the Makhachkala boys make to their games if they can't rely on the cage for mat returns and pinning?
Anyone else love being a gym bully? Little Norwegian fucker in my class about 22 years old. I love making him squeal in pain. Don’t mean to spam the thread but I’m getting desperate here. How do I stop these 3 guys from constantly oil checking me nonstop during scrambles? My wife caught me crying after a class and I refuse to tell her about this. I broke down to my dad last week and told him and he called me a faggot. I just want to keep training but these gym bullies keep sticking their fingers into my ass and it’s been drawing blood for weeks now. I told the instructor but he waves it off and thinks I’m joking. I quit the class. Ended up breaking up with my gf as she complained I was getting despondent and I stopped having sex with her. I told her I’m under a lot of mental and physical stress from those guys at the gym oil checking me but she didn’t want to hear it and thought I was lying. Quit the class shortly after. Never in my life have I been so viciously bullied. The last time they stuck their fingers in me was a week ago and I still feel pain when I go to bathroom. Anyways I won’t be posting anymore updates here; just know a few months of getting oil checked eventually ruined my entire life and now I have to rebuild with zero confidence because I joined BJJ to get confidence but I couldn’t get confident there because of the constant unwanted oil checks I got day in and day out. >>141176If the gym sells stuff that you can get a discount on, buy everything from them. Underbite shouldn't be too bad just tuck your chin
>>141176a good mouthpiece is a big help. for sparring equipment, fairtex seems to be pretty popular but i'm not sure it's the best bang for your buck. ask your trainers and other students
>>141132I see you brother, first thing I noticed is you gotta get off those heels. stay on your toes seriously, at least always be on your front toe, but both is ideal. you do this to help you bounce more, the more you bounce the easier its gonna be to move around, pop your punches, take hits, and the more your head is naturally gonna move and you want your head to always be moving, never keep it in the same spot I learned that the hard way. also loosen up in general bro shadow boxing, and all combat is felt in the flow. when you loosen up you'll be faster and smoother. keep working man, just stay on your toes and move that head around more. also spar. the only way you are gonna get good at fighting is by often and consistently sparring. Godspeed!

My Aikido teacher broke my arm during a demonstration. Wish I stayed at the BJJ gym, oil checks a few times a week are nothing compared to a broken elbow.
Is anyone in boston and would like to practice wrestling on the beach this summer with me?
>>146278you're kidding, right? from what i understand, oil checks aren't a thing and are strictly forbidden in combat sports. when i do see it happening in mma, for example, the fighter gets a warning from the ref. while butt drags are a thing in wrestling, they are principally different, as you only grab the fleshy part of the buttocks - the cheek - for added leverage to push your opponent forward while they're turtling to prevent being pinned. an oil check, ie inserting your finger into someone's anus without their consent, would be sexual assault.
hypothetical scenariolet's say i can use magic to split myself into 9 different peopleand let's say all 9 decide to train a different martial for 5 yearsand then after that 5 years, we recombine to fight as an mma fighterwhat 9 martial arts should this man have learned? i know this sounds like a thoughtless and useless question, but believe it or not, it would really help me out knowing this for reasons i'm ashamed to say. also, you can't have all of them train the same thing. each one has to be different.
