Is there any place left in the world where there are good trance events??? I love uplifting, mind you, but any trance is fun to listen and dance to, especially with other people who appreciate it.

I lived near San Francisco for the past few years and the trance scene here was underwhelming to say the least...the worst part is when DJs like Armin van Buuren only play their "big room" garbage, because I believe they think they're catering to American taste.

I want to live somewhere in the world where trance is appreciated by more than just a few people. Am I fooling myself?

Australians have hidden psytrance raves, they had a specific term for them but i don't remember what they called them but I heard they're very good, they play actual psytrance, not the big room "psy" "trance" that you hear in ultra or edc

Wow, what an incredible song!!!

I started listening to trance in 2009, and I find many of the older songs sound dated, but the timeless ones like your song...there's absolutely nothing like them. As close to a perfect song as you can get.

Look for underground goa trance/psytrance events, especially open air campouts. As long as you can put up with the hippies they are the best trance events left. If you're a euro, suntrip records in in Belgium has been throwing great "old is gold" parties for 15+ years keeping the 90s spirit alive.

unfortunately i'm american though so the options for good trance are a lot harder to find and more spread out. I've found the best resource to be this: https://www.fractaltribe.org/blog/north-american-psytrance-festival-guide-2020 . I've gone to probably about 10 events that I found there in the past 5 years before the chinaflu hit and it was always an amazing time. typically 50-200 people camping out in the middle of nowhere getting blasted on psys and stims and dancing to psychedelic trance for an entire weekend straight. The crowds at these types of parties tend to be older and more mature than your typical pop culture rave sponsored by alcohol and red bull. People are legitimately there for the music, and everyone usually knows how to handle their drugs. Nothing but great vibes at goa parties. I'm hoping to hit up the party in the Mojave Desert in April if it actually happens.

>getting blasted on psys and stims and dancing to psychedelic trance for an entire weekend straight.

It's amazing to me how some people can continuously do these substances three days straight. More power to them, but my head aches imagining how their Mondays must feel.

>People are legitimately there for the music, and everyone usually knows how to handle their drugs. Nothing but great vibes at goa parties.

That's what's missing from the SF trance shows I used to go to...people were not very approachable, and the music passing as trance was uninspired garbage.

Bush doof, got it. That 2009 footage doesn't seem like an "illegal" rave at first glance. Do illegal raves typically have setups this elaborate? What's illegal about them?

Oh man, why is this dirty hack seeing a resurgence all of a sudden? Maybe I'm just more sensitive because I'm still running MP-HC which refuses to play 1 frame video streams, but I hate these malformed webms with a firery passion. I thought we had collectively agreed to let that shit die once everyone figured out how to properly encode music webms? Especially since the 6MB limit alleviated a lot of file size pressure.

Still one step above the fools that go around gutting headers to produce completely broken files, but come on - we're better than that!

Good to know. It's actually one of the things I appreciate about MP-HC that it looks at the stream duration and not the container duration.

>>3713575
Nah, I know of at least 3 ways to get by it. The thing is - there's maybe a dozen people who seriously care and testing fucking sucks (it's a black box), so it's not wonder there hasn't been a comprehensive write-up. Most of us are pretty sure detection works via cue points in the mkv header, but the specifics are very murky (and weird), so we all stopped looking once we had our personal work-arounds (at least as far as I know). I still don't fully understand the restrictions, just how to get around them reliably and I don't want to invest several more hours figuring out the specifics to a point where I can write a comprehensive guide.

Cue points, the lynchpin of the whole affair, are automatically generated at each keyframe. That leaves you with 3 works-arounds I've seen in the wild:
1) Fix it in post. Encode normally, then go and delete parts of the mkv header. I've seen it work, but it tends to produce incredibly broken files.
2) Avoid the problem. If your video stream cuts out after a single frame, there will be no keyframes and thus no cue points. Works, but also breaks playback and seeking on some players and it has the obvious limitation of only working with a still image.
3) Adapt your video. By carefully controlling the amount and location of keyframes you can create normal video files that still avoid detection. This is my preferred method as it is 100% compatible and allows for full video (webm related, recycled/reencoded from a previous trance thread about a year ago).

Goddamn this is a great thread. My only encounter with rave culture was during my first trip to Europe in summer of 2007; by pure coincidence I flew into Zurich the day of Street Parade. I felt like I had stepped into Narnia, couldn't believe this whole culture was alive and thriving in its own world which I'd never heard of.

I miss the days from 2000-2008 when my old neighbors blasted trance from their speakers and had small rave parties every once in a while.
My parents fucking hated it but it's what sparked my interest of electronic music.

>If I was to make some Webms where I have an album cover (still frame no video) should I set the video bitrate to 1 so I can make the audio quality higher?
Just set the video to 1 frame per second and you're good
>Is this board still capped at 5 minute long webms?
Yes but there are ways to bypass the time limit
>>
Anyone happen to know a song that continuously has a man and woman say something like "wikisaw" and "honeypuss"? Last I heard it was in the early 2000s from a cd my dad bought from a festival but it sounds like techno or the like.
>>
>>3770853
>>3836762
You don't even need framerate, one frame is enough. In fact, having a video longer than 5 min can't be posted anymore, even with the bypass trick so 1 frame webms are the only way to go past the limit.

If you give ffmpeg just an image it will make a 1 frame webm. Some guides recommend you use -loop to make it a video but don't do that, it won't work now.

Like this:
ffmpeg -i "picture.jpg" -i "trance.mp3" -c:a libvorbis -c:v libvpx "out.webm"
