Just made this one
>>2226378Nice. Source on the girl?
>>2226372Not really. The whole Renders in Shapes thing is designed to play with depth perception and perspective. If it’s superimposed it looks fine, but it doesn’t “rub” the same “itch”. Keep doing your thing anon, though. Don’t let societal aesthetic norms get in the way of expressing your art.
Hi, could someone make a, if possible, 4K wallpaper with a beach background like OP's picture or this one >>2225243? Thanks anons

>>2228379First time trying, bit of a photoshop noobie
>>2228364>>2228379>>2228380You’re on the right track. The trick with this style of wallpaper is to use the shape to play with perspective and make the “render” “pop” in relation with whatever background you use. For that to work you have to “hide” and/or delete part of the image you use “behind” the shape. See the tutorials in the OP and you’ll get it, it’s hard at first but in time you’ll see the way almost instinctively. I’d recommend to think before starting: “what’s in front, and what’s in the back?”
>>2228389fine attempt, the girls are a bit too high (off center) making it seem a bit unbalanced

I need some help y'all. I got this pic and this BG, but I can't make them look good together. Please help.BGhttps://files.catbox.moe/eme00x.jpgPichttps://files.catbox.moe/jqwxoh.png
>>2228486first things first: the bg has a shit tier awful text mark at the bottom right. second: the bg is really center focused, it hinges on you fixating on the center (giant red gate), the girl is slightly turned but looking dead center, and it's sort of off balance... it will tend to look really weird because they sort of don't fit togetheri'll try some stuff when I get home if no one else has satisfied the request
>>2228487How's this? Better?
>>2228486tell me how you feel about this one
>>2228492Very good. Do you mind doing a version with >>2228488?
>>2228492now that I see it maybe the outside of the shape should look more colorful and bright, while the interior of the shape should project a more hellish vibrant vibe.
>>2228488Had a go at it myself.
>>2228524Very nice. Thank you!
>>2228448thanks this looks great!
>>2227831i work in pixlr, and weirdly the shape only blurs from one of the sides (the interior), the exterior doesn't blur at allanyone know what's the issue?
>>2228531are you using selections to blur? there should be an option to invert the selection.alternatively, what I like to do is >copy BG layer>mask/crop the top one to shape>blur the bottomthen you could probably add glow or shadow between the 2 layers
>>2228505>>2228524>>2228535Pretty cool to see the different approaches people take.
>>2227821I did>>2226753>>2226775- for these I simply 'painted' (shape tool in krita) a white circle with an airbrush, then another circle with a slightly darker and harder-edged brush either above or below it for some very faint 'neon' effects. I then applied some blur to both layers.>>2228486Tall, skinny shape + minimal background means you need to pull out all the stops to keep it visually interesting. I haven't done much with scanlines in years so these might be a little weak, I can tweak them if needed.
>>2228771I realized that it was a difficult ask after I posted it, but I'm glad people took up the request. Thanks anon, you're cool beans in my book.
Hi! I've been trying to do some renders in shapes using imagemagick, but i'm not being successful and i'm not finding any useful resources on how to do it. Does anyone have any pointers?Best i could do so far is something along the lines of this one: >>2228084 (not gonna post one of mine because i think they may be using too lewd images for the board and stuff)
>>2228810You can always use catbox.moe to link any nsfw works if you need help.
I used Pixlr and Photoshop both on this one, I like how it turned out.
>>2228811Thanks, i managed to pull something along the lines of a render in shape with imagemagick, it's not great but it's a start: https://files.catbox.moe/ler0rw.jpg
>>2228810The OP on this thread has some tutorials and pointers. I’m not familiar at all with the software you mention. I use Pixlr because I seldom work on the same PC and travel a lot. Most anons here use Gimp, PS, or even Paint dot net. What makes you use that instead of other tools, if I could ask?>inb4 Temple OS
>>2228844>>2228845>>2228846nice work anon, specially in the background area... but it kinda looks weird that all the leg is obscured. Feels sort of like "chopped".
>>2228849Yeah. The original image was pretty limiting.
>>2228850lol, it's literally chopped
>>2228810Well, that is a render in a shape. Quote some examples of what you want your final product to look like and we can tell you how to do it. In general, we use masks to selectively apply a filter (usually a strong blur) to the background and to remove it from the inside of our shape. To make the characters 'pop' from inside of the image, we just pick the parts closest to the camera and place them outside of the shape. Anything else you erase or mask so that it 'disappears' behind your shape. As for creating the shape itself - go wild. I'm experimenting with complex shapes at the moment but a plain circle or square works as well as it always has.If you're not familiar with masks: when you paint black on them the layer they are masking disappears. painting white brings it back.
I actually really liked this one with the original composition, so I took a crack at it.
>>2228815Well, step one of the renders in shape thing is the rendering, there's not much you can do as far as perspective without a clean render to work with. You can request lewd stuff rendered in the IMT as long as you link to it and warn people it's NSFW.>>2228812I like it. I would have put her further to the right side and down a bit, but the colors and content match really well.
I never ended up doing anything with this render, but I thought this would be funny.
>>2228923Doesn't really match the content of this thread bro .
>>2228924It's a render *on* a shape - it's only one letter off.
>>2228923reminds me of justingod's work
>>2228925Still doesn't fit this thread. At all.
>>2228933it gets less funny every time I have to explain it but inversion of an artistic form is not only valid critique of the form, but a tool by which to measure the original form and find methods to improve upon it. It belongs in this thread as much as anything else.
>>2228940Literally the first paragraph:>What is Renders in Shapes?A style of wallpaper that has a render, within a shape, on top of a nature/urban background. Shapes are typically white/black in color. Background is often blurred around the shape, and left unblurred in the middle. Text is sometimes added.
>>2228152I love this one. if I ever get a CRT I'll use this for it.>>2228236The blur and lines make this super dynamic - good stuff.
>>2228946right sorry got it I'll use a nature/urban background next time
>>2228812Good job bro
My very first render in shape, took me about 45 minutes to get it right. Character is AK-Alfa from girls' frontline (that's the official render), and the background comes from here https://www.pixel4k.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/night-city-skyscrapers-tokyo-night-4k_1538068102.jpgAny critique appreciated!
>>2229112It's kinda small and hard to see anon.
>>2229113Yeah I wasn't sure if I could stretch the render or not so I just worked with the base render for now because I was afraid of destroying it, but I'll try to make it bigger tomorrow.
>>2228824The plan is to, eventually, build a little piece of software that receives two images that it will use to create a wallpaper on this style (maybe other styles as well) automatically. Imagemagick allows that, since you do everything with commands:https://imagemagick.org/index.php
>>2229120That's an interesting idea, but I really don't think it's possible. You can't automatically determine where the subject should be placed in the wallpaper, how to alter the colors to match, what shape or style the "shape" should be, or what parts of the subject are 'in front' of the shape and which should be hidden, or even which filters should be used for the inside and outside of the shape. I guess a script to generate the basic template is a nice idea, but it would only save about 2 or 3 minutes tops. Honestly, most of the time spent on these wallpapers is just chewing your pencil trying to decide what direction you want to go with it, actually doing it takes just a few minutes.
>>2229117Okay, I tried it again this time I think it's better. It's really good on my 1440p screen at least, although I already liked the other version as well.
>>2229110Very nice! Do you have a link to that background (or other gym backgrounds)?
>>2229112>>2229130how do you get the glowy shadow thing going anon?

>>2229175>skull bg>pictures you can smell
>>2228923Render ON shape. Heh, nice. But this one looks awkward. The shape isn't visible enough. It sinks in the BG, making it hard to see the render interacting with the shape. I thought you were mixing 2D-IRL at first but she's hovering on the table. Also can't agree with the unblurred at the bottom near-edge I can't properly explain it but something feels wrong. And friendly reminder, this is still 4chan. Don't feed them.>>2229069>>2229112If you're not confident with your program's ability to enlarge images without degrading, try>>>waifu2x.booru.pics/

4k>>https://files.catbox.moe/ze83e6.pngminor tweaks on >>2227133>>https://files.catbox.moe/gbrprp.png
>>2226773That is great! I like the border
I really like the way this one turned out.
Pretty basic in scope and I'm sure many find aestheticsomewhat overdone at this point, but I don't think this turned out too terribly at all for a first attempt
>>2229440i think it looks fantastic anon, great for a first try. hit us with more stuff... preferably not underage
>>2229027>>2229392These are nice, good composition and colors, but I do question the choice of blur on both - they create a frenetic feeling that I don't think either image calls for. The first one looks like the room is spinning and the second looks like you're caught in a rainstorm in the park, at first glance. Unless that's intentional, a basic gaussian would probably work better.
I like this, but I don't. Any suggestions?
>>2229506I have a few ideas:Tilt her back a bit and make her pop out of the frame more.Raise or lower the contrast and saturation of the background - do you want her to melt into the snowy landscape or pop out of it?Borrow more from the background for the frame - use the shape and color of the lanterns, for example, or borrow the double-beam element from the gate.Alternatively, make the shape softer and the transition less abrupt, and make it bluish instead of reddish. Add some filters to the inside of the shape as well to increase the feeling of 'being surrounded' by the snow.
>>2229512Better - do you want to share the bg + render so I can show you a few of the things I was talking about?
I lost the render, sorry. https://files.catbox.moe/r7bq17.jpg
>>2229535And I just realized that I missed a lot in the original render, damn.
OP plays EVE
>>2229535>>2229536It's not perfect (nothing is) and it's in my own style to a degree, but this is kind of what I envisioned when I saw your original.I increased the BG blur and lowered the saturation to make the character pop more, then added a halftone in the shape to add some 'snow'. The render doesn't have a ton of color or depth, so you have to compensate by making it pretty big and downplaying the background.
>>2229538So much better than what I did. gj anon and thank you for your input.
>>2229539Thanks, glad you like it. Just remember, it all comes down to composition for these - if that's on point, the rest is just icing on the cake. Make sure you love your layout and 'shape' before you start worrying about details and effects.
>>2229543A lot of the practice you get when doing this kind of work is applying the basics efficiently and creatively. That’s why it’s a good think to keep making and experimenting with.
>>2229586Nice! The tilt shift-style blur, snowflakes, and rounded shape give a much softer feel to the image, like the 'melting into' the snow I was describing above.>>2229189I wasted a few hours on this and anon never replied, I'm curious to see what ideas other anons might have. https://files.catbox.moe/hzy592.pngI was personally thinking somewhere in the ghetto. 2160p landscape or portrait is fine.
>>2229607How about this for a BG?
>>2229608kooky, I like it.
>>2229610>>2229608>>2229607My take on it.
>>2229641Nice! I like the use of color and the intertwining shapes.
>>2229512Any way to do mobile?
>>2229607Here's a quick take.
>>2229988This one looks fantastic anon. Did you do it yourself? If so I would love to see more of your work.
>>2230014That's pretty much the only good one I have unfortunately.
>>2229710Meant to reply earlier - super cool! I love the red inside the shape and how it ties into the highlights of the image, and how the whole thing has the feel of a lit cigarette being flicked onto the ground.
New, I kinda like it.
>>2230095I like it too, anon. My only comment would be that she could be 'pulled' much further out of the frame - the beer can and foot (not a footfag, just keen on the illusion of depth) could be slightly out of frame to make the image 'pop' a lot more. Post the bg and render if you want me to show you what I mean.>>2229936I like this one a lot too. The white & yellow color scheme ties really well into the background.
I was happy to see this thread gotten livelier with discussions and advice but at the same time, no request came in. I guess someone used the monkey's paw.

>>2230417>>2230428>>2230429love these ones anon, they're gorgeous>>2230428this one could benefit from either using the skirt or the top of the head to put over the shape, it would look less "constrained"
can someone do this one in 3840x2160 on a pool or water related setting? ideally aligned to the rightthank you very much
>>2230431Can I have the background picture?
>>2230430Based Akagi poster, do you have any of Akagi/Kaiji?
>>2231256thank you very much anon, it’s wonderful
Made it myself, I know it's not great but its my first attempt.
>>2231372Pointers for your next try:- Try to use high quality, high resolution transparent background pictures for the main subject of your piece. The ideal quality is vector, but 4K jpgs or pngs can work wonders as well... even when using lower resolutions. 3000 pixels high are the smaller ones I use, when reducing the resolution they don't look bad at all. Post requests on the vector and IMT threads if you can't do the stuff yourself.- Be mindful of perspective. On your pic most of the dude is "over" the shape, and if you want perspective to do its job then you should have some parts "behind" and some parts that go "over". Look here >>2231256, the thighs are "cut behind" the shape, but the arm and hand go over it to create the illusion of depth.- Be mindful of overall resolution and aspect ratio. Practice composition (a LOT) and different focal points for your wallpaper. A bit of planning and vision will save you A LOT of work correcting stuff. In your attempt the dude looks a bit tiny compared to the flowers and the overall garden, and it's slightly off center. You can crop and relocate creatively, don't stop moving pieces until you're satisfied with how the composition looks.. Also, it helps to imagine where people usually put their icons.- Use some effects other than blur on the backgrounds. Play around a bit until you find something you like. Don't overdo it, few people like "deep fried" wallpapers.- General Tip: Save states often, use lots of layers, and duplicate when going for large changes. That way retracing your steps and correcting is less painful.Keep posting your efforts. And don't get discouraged, you'll get the hang of it eventually.
>>2231379Wow thank you a lot, I will definitely keep all that in mind next time! This is actually really helpful. I know the blurring wasnt maybe the best choice, but I was just really happy with getting the shape to work, I have never really done anything like this before, and there are.. almost no tutorial on how to do it in Clip Studio Paint. So I had to kind of just.. go. More or less. but thank you! I'm going to keep working on it.
>>2231381Sure, that's what we're here for. The blurring is fine, it's just a bit bland considering everything else going on. Specially with such a small subject. For example if you used a bit of vignete effect, it instantly feels more focused and balanced.Example: Literally took your own pic, played around with the colors, added a white vignete effect. And it already looks more serviceable. It's not something anyone would actually use, because the major issues require tinkering with the original layers and pictures... but it's just to prove that fucking around with some features can do wonders for your stuff.- https://files.catbox.moe/scnx87.pngFor more examples of different approaches and stuff you can do, this conversation was quite stimulating. >>2228486I learned using pixlr because the interface is friendlier, but feel free to use whatever feels more comfortable for you.
>>2231383Huh, I see what you mean, that is much more serviceable. I might have to pick a different render image though, since the once I chose was only so big.. and heavily cropped to get rid of the other characters in the photo. So I'm probably going to work on all of this tonight.
>>2231384paste them as catbox links and let some anons go at it, I’ll go over my own process and write it down so you can learn a bit… hopefully some more experienced anons can also weigh in so as to learn from each otherwe’re gonna need: (a) the original background picture, no modifications. (b) the original transparent background render. (c) the original picture you got the render from. (d) the “energy” or “vibe” you want your wallpaper to convey. with all that some of us may be able to work some stuff out, you’ll learn a few tricks, and maybe get some inspiration for new projects
>>2231387Of course, that would be amazing thank you so much! I'm trying to learn some new tricks on a render im trying now, but once I'm done I'll have all that up for you.
>>2231387The original Image https://files.catbox.moe/jmss9n.jpgThe render I did https://files.catbox.moe/ykdv8t.pngThe background no edits: https://files.catbox.moe/zj6oy1.jpgWhat I created: https://files.catbox.moe/ps3a6h.jpgI made sure he wasnt ouside the box but since this photo has no top or bottom cleanly, i decided to fit him in it and work more with the background, I dialed back the Gaussian Blur and added some gradients to the image to try and brink the lighter color of his Haori into the image a bit more... Tengen Uzui is a flashy kind of guy who loves festivals and I wanted to give this a more 'exciting' tone. I picked a charry blossom fesival background for it since it both went with color and theme tone. Thank you so much! I'm really learning alot so far! :D

>>2232403the render is a bit small for the background resolution anon, any hope of providing a decent quality upscale? at least 2000 high would be enough
>>2232405How's this?Well, shit. It needs to be rerendered.
>>2232406delete your account anon
Hi, requesting a 1920x1080 wallpaper, please. A city background would be nice
>>2232366That's Great! Thank you for your time doing this for me <3
>>2226362Hey I used to make wallpapers like this for myself years ago, didn't know it was a thing.
>>2232462I love it but can you show a little of Anzu legs too? Thanks
>>2232471Made it so only Dark Magician Girl is coming out of the shape. Changed it to a hexagram cause it fits the DMG theme
>>2232520Once again, I forget to attach the bloody artwork
>>2232521That's fucking great anon. I really love it. You're amazing. Thanks for everything
>>2232521>>2232526Hi, same requester here. Love the wallpaper a lot. Can you do a 21:9 mobile version too, please? Thanks, your work is great
>>2232557Sorry, 20:9 ratio. Thanks.
>>2232575Thanks again. Love this version too. Cheers
>>2232618Super cool! Thanks anon.
>>2232615Even though this goes with the spirit of the thread, yo seem to have misunderstood the concept of it. The idea is to use transparent background images.
>>2232625Yeah, but i don't have a transparency for that image, so i just did something similar to >>2228084 for example
>>2232366that front tit hanging out is sublime>>2231840It's quite nice, the colors work well together and the simple white frame is a good choice for a calm background like that. I'll just give my standard advice - don't be afraid to think 'outside the shape.' A slight angle and pulling out another element (her hand or elbow, maybe) can add the extra pop you might be looking for. Also, while the center works for this image - always be looking for other places to put your subject. Perhaps she could be on the left coming out of the store, or she could be right in the middle of the street jaywalking.
reposting two that i did a while back
>>2232670and the otherthese were fun to make, but they end up feeling kind of same-y
requesting a 1920x1080 pool background
>>2232709the fact that there's already a pool and white colored water makes it super awkward anon
>>2232727Not if you delete the pool and have her sitting on the edge of the shape.
>>2232709I'll take a crack at this.
I finally managed to pull one o these off using just the terminal (using imagemagick for editing and sxiv for visualization)! It's simple and not perfect yet, but at least it proves it can be done, now onto refactoring the whole script and try to make it work for other backgrounds and characters. /w/hat do you think?
>>2232787we value your work and effort anon... that said... the thighs are evidently "over" the shape making it look weird
>>2232790Fixed (i forgot to account for the shape thickness when making the masks). It's still not 100% imho, but i guess it's the start of something pretty cool :D
>>2232709Gave it a try
>>2232800hey that actually looks pretty good. thanks a lot!
>>2232709Here you go.
>>2232991Hell yea two papes, it's Uzaki-chan afterall. In fact, have a third lmao
hello, requesting a 1920x1080 background using this render. a kinda vertical, horizon-focused shape like the OP would be nice but whatever looks best is best.i will reply to this image with a background i found.
>>2233087i liked this one out of a bunch that ive found but if you have one that better fits the colors, looks nicer, or anything like that, feel free to use another picture. the general theme being an urban, apocalyptic look, with shaw "popping out" motivationally in contrast to its decrepit nature.
My first try
>>2233587I'm not sure if that link is legit or garbage, so here's the BG just in case.
>>2233712Love it! Thank you!
>>2231483>3840x2160no non-compressed version. got away with 3MB cause there aren't that many details, even the BG in shape isn't that detailed. But here's a fixed version
made this one while procrastinating
>>2233763That's real nice anon.
>>2233837Feeling underwhelmed by this, but here you go.
>>2233952>>2233953Don't worry, looks great, thanks a lot!
