Nice browser colors. The 7.1 release of openbsd was specially good for some recent amd gpus and intel wifi drivers. My hardware is running it pretty smoothly but I still dual boot linux for music production and playing touhou on wine. The only driver I miss is the wacom ones. You can only use it as a mouse pointer but the pen pressure won't work.
>>2226181
I switched from arch to void to get a more stable system with no systemd and still rolling release. I won't say it's easy though. It's easier to install than arch, but the system itself is even more minimal and it has splited devel packages. I don't regret it though.

as for how I got it like that
1) right-click the start menu after you have installed open shell and then click on settings

2) if the show all settings box is not checked, click on it and go to taskbar

3) turn on customize task bar, and select glass under taskbar look

4) put the taskbar opacity to around 45 or 50

5) set the taskbar texture to this image (can't put it on the reply, too small) https://imgur.com/a/soGO1Es

6) have both horizontal and vertical stretching on stretch and have the border size 0,0

and there you go! the taskbar itself should look like how I have it.

Trying out other DEs lately, messed with Cinnamon a bit more and I quite like it. Still don't like KDE. LXQT is quite nice, though.

Something I wanna ask here cuz it seems like you guys might know, but what DEs or WMs can use those older Windowmaker dockapps? Is it only Windowmaker? I'm in love with the way they look and want to use some, if I can.

I'm also obsessed with audio visualizations.

>>
>>
>>2229453
>>2229674
thanks for the recommendations, pcmanfm is nice. the only gripe i have with it so far is that I can't hide the menu bar which is quite distracting. but other than that, it's fast and it generally looks good.

i also tried nnn, i fell in love with it. lack of a config file makes setting it up a pain in the ass though, and i haven't figured out how to setup the live previewer yet. it's confusing
>>
>>2229712
the thing I like about nnn is that it's very minimal, you only export a couple of shell variables (for things like cding to the directory or favorites) and you're good to go. I don't do preview because I created a script to quickly open my image directory with the nsxiv grid view and openbsd doesn't support ueberzug. If you want one as fast and more configurable try LF. It will require a bit of configuration to be usable but It's very easy to setup a live previewer and bookmarking is nicer.

Open firefox.exe with Resource Hacker and go to Manifest > 1 : 1033

Copy all the text from there into a text file and at the bottom delete the line that says: <supportedOS Id="{8e0f7a12-bfb3-4fe8-b9a5-48fd50a15a9a}"/>

Save the file as firefox.exe.manifest and place it next to firefox.exe

Then do this: https://appuals.com/disable-display-scaling-on-high-dpi-devices-in-windows-10/

Do only the first part with the registry to enable external manifests, the restart Firefox and you should be good.

Explanation:

This way you make the UI of Firefox "forget" what Windows 10 and Windows 11 are. Windows 10 and 11 tell Firefox to draw it's own buttons up there. Without this line the buttons will fall back to Windows 7 mode so it let's the OS draw the buttons.

And the registry stuff is just so you don't have to recompile the exe with the modified manifest, the manifest is read externally then. This makes it also stick through Firefox updates.

OS updates in Windows might sometimes revert the registry change, if so just redo it.

Just switched to Linux with EndeavourOS two days ago and even though I like how my desktop is looking with the little changes I've made, I still want to do so much more.
Any suggestions on things that I should try? I don't really know how to customize things like you guys do with different panels/bars and WMs (and I'm not sure I'm ready to try out a tiling window manager at the moment), so the easier to set-up the better. Thank you!

Tray icons mainly. I use them fairly often so I'd just need a way to customize them.

update. new wallpaper and other various minor changes for the tiling mode. i love bspwm, but their layout is admittedly limited. should i try i3 or dwm?
>>2230552
thanks! it's just nord though. i didn't use terminal padding at all on that screenshot. i 've set it at 2 now.
also, seems like rounded corners is quite popular here huh. i've tried it with the patched bspwm but they look awful on tiling mode imo, looks really nice on floating though. cool setup btw.

nice. if you have the spare time, i'd recommend making custom icons for your apps so it doesn't look out of place. or ditch the icons altogether in favor of just text, i did the latter when i used windows and it looked okay.
>>
>>2230778
very pretty. Between i3 and dwm I recommend dwm. Default is already pretty good but there's a lot of patches for layout options and other interesting things such as swallowing. But if you never used it it's kind of a pain to set up and sometimes you have to fix patches manually in the C code. Not just trying things out with a config file.
>>
>>2230778
>should i try i3 or dwm?
i3: rich and clear documentation, light and fast, based on two simple configuration files which don't require the knowledge of either C or any other computer language and make it relatively easy to fix and customize, good picom support, excellent multi monitor support (in case you need it).

Is there a way to customize default icons of the apps you have in your taskbar? I know I can do it with shortcuts and pin the shortcuts into the taskbar and the opened applications would used the pinned icon. But I want the taskbar to be dynamic depending on what I have open so I'd need a way to change the default icons (or some other method)

Figured it out.

For file explorer neither Open Shell or StartisBack actually work, those are mainly for the start menu themeing. OpenShell does have SOME file explorer functionality, but mostly it just confused me so I disabled that portion of it.

I then started to look into windows themes using UltraUXThemePatcher or SecureUXTheme (chose former)

And that gave me so many options for custom file explorer themes and just general look of windows10.

Still got issues with the icons at the bottom and tray stuff but I can manage. I just really don't want to start using shortcuts as I want the icons to disappear when they're not running.

Do you use picom or another compositor for icewm? If so, is picom making the borders on some of your windows transparent, e.g. webbrowser, when not desired? I've been messing around with my picom config but ungoogled-chromium still has this transparency around it. Not that I mind THAT much given I mostly use it maximized, but I would prefer it consistent with everything else ヽ(ー_ー )ノ
>>
>>2230994
Yeah, I use picom when I'm on icewm. It does do that, but I've noticed it doesn't do it for ALL themes. None of the picom options seem to fix it.
If I had to guess, I think it depends on if the window borders are being generated by icewm (ie from the theme file) rather than if it's referencing image files, so try a theme that uses .png or .xpm files for its borders and if it works you can pretty easily make any other theme you like work that way just by making those border image files yourself by screenshotting. That's how I made my JWM theme.

I've noticed it's also only on GTK applications like Firefox and Chrome. Another thing to thank those GTK punkass bitches for I guess.

Stupid noob question but how do you guys add that terminal like with all your specs? also wondering the same for music widgets.

>>
>>
>>2233231
I'm going to assume you're using linux

It's a program/script, it's called 'neofetch'

Install it via your distribution's package manager (on Ubuntu or Ubuntu-based distributions, "sudo aps install neofetch". On arch/manjaro, "sudo pacman -S neofetch")

Then open your terminal on choice and run 'neofetch'

I don't really know what you mean by music widgets... If you use the KDE Plasma desktop environment, then you can right-click on your desktop and click "add widget" (or something that reads similar), and search for a music widget

Oh, if you mean something similar to the one in the post above you, then you should refer to those as music players. You can search google for a Terminal Music Player and find one that's to your liking. Note that you'll have to download your music locally. (Though there probably are terminal Spotify clients but I've never tried them)

i love this, nice bar.
>>2233180
love the bar and the color scheme, especially the bar, comfy.
>>2233284
looks nice, the wallpaper text and the bar kinda clashed a bit, if you want to, consider moving the bar to the top, love the color scheme.
>>2233303
love the wallpaper and bar combo.
>>2233315
is that your miku figure anon?
>>2233403

>>2233500
