Post your vector requests and recently done vectors here.
Previous Thread >>2198850
READ THE OP BEFORE POSTING!

>Before requesting, here are some tips:
– Only request an image once per thread. Bumping your own request won't help either.
– All requests are welcome, within reason, but remember:
– The poorer the quality of an image (in resolution and drawing ability), the less likely it will be picked up. The more detail seen and higher the resolution, the better.
– Full-body images preferred. Images cut off on 3 or more sides are very unlikely to be picked up due to their limited usage; keep this in mind when finding an image to request. (Hair or skirt edges that are barely cut off don't usually count)
– Requests for removing the background from an image (called a RENDER) and resizing requests should go to the IMT threads.
– Refrain from using renders for requests. Try to find the original non-rendered image; it is easier for vectorists to work with.
– Note: Overly complicated images are unlikely to be picked up due to their nature. IF your request is taken, please have patience.

the halftone is fucking amazing, damn
did you do some patterns tool fuckery or just manual adjustment for each circle-lines?
>>
Hi. Can someone please vector the girl in this picture? Transparent background is ideal.

Thank you so much.
>>
>>2225504
Thanks! I had never heard of halftone before this, so I originally thought I would do the patterns using Illustrator's blend tool to make evenly distributed copies of the circles (which is what I did for the shadows on the shirt and overalls since they were just equidistant circles of the same size). But then I noticed the patterns on the hair followed a radial gradient-like path, so I googled "polka dot gradient effect" which eventually got me to halftone.

Illustrator has a halftone effect you can apply to gradients, but it's technically a Photoshop effect which means the gradient became a rasterized object, defeating the purpose of this being a vector. I used the Image Trace tool to let Illustrator auto-trace that rasterized halftone into vector objects, but it's not perfect so I ended up with imperfect circles and blobs for circles that were too close together. When I was about ready to give up, I found a video of some guy using a downloadable Illustrator script that would take a single object and replace all objects in a group with that object. So I was able to just draw a perfect circle and use the script to replace all the imperfect circles in the group. That's how I ended up with what you see. Once I was able to do this for the gradient at the top of her head, the rest of them went smoother.

In short, if I had to manually do all of the patterns, I would have quit.

Thanks for asking and thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

You can do this with tiled clones in Inkscape pretty easily, although lining them up is always tedious. The trick for radials is to scale X and Y by the correct (very small, negative) number and tick cumulate when generating. Straight halftones (on the right) just need a larger negative number and you can tweak with the exponent, no cumulation required. You can just use union to make the whole thing one path then export to svg to get it into illustrator.
>>
>>2225544
I'm not very familiar with Inkscape since I've always used Illustrator, but I just looked up a couple videos on the tiled clones tool, and it looks very powerful and would have made my life infinitely easier.

Thanks for the info. Should I have a hankering for doing another vector like this, I'll try that out.
>>
>>2225552
In my experience inkscape is a lot like blender - much clunkier than proprietary shitware, but infinitely more capable due to more cleverly programmed and customizable toolsets. If I were just using the pen tool and nothing else, though, I would never step outside of illustrator. For literally anything else I'm just more comfortable with inkscape and a whole lot faster too despite the niggles, so I use it.

>>

If you're just arranging premade illustrations, it's not terribly hard and Inkscape is good enough for typesetting and creating background patterns, you'll just need a basic understanding of graphic design or a good sense of aesthetics.

If by design you mean take a highly complex illustration and vectorize it so that you can scale it up to car-size, it could take a while.

Just as an FYI, a vector of anything painted in the soft digital or watercolor style will lose a ton of detail that makes the art feel realistic. The second one could be done with a lot of gradients and meshes, but a vector of the first would never really capture the tonality that makes her physique, blush, hair etc so appealing.

Hello. Can someone please vector this character sheet of Ridget from Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet in a higher resolution? (The image resolution is too small to upload directly, so here's a Catbox link to it. I swear it's Safe For Work.)

https://files.catbox.moe/jz5tm1.jpeg

- Please vector all the views of the body (front, side, back), try to get rid of the website stuff that's on the lower lefthand corner and see if you can keep the kanji (the Japanese text in black). If you can keep the white background, that'd be good, too.

- The original size is 452x640, so please try making the vector either 904x1280 or 1356x1920, whichever is considered "high resolution".

Please and thanks in advance!
>>
>>2228730

i'd most certainly be labeled the office's creep if someone ever saw me looking at/working on this pic anon... it's definitely not safe for work
>>
>>2228867
Ah. In retrospect, I guess I meant it more like it's safe in the sense that it's legitimate official art for an anime series and not fan art, but yeah, when you put it like that, it is considerably risqué.

Sorry about that, but I still would like a high-res vector of it if it's possible (if it isn't, then please point me to where I can have my request fulfilled). It just bugs me to no end that I can't find this pic in a resolution that's higher than 452x640. Like, I can't even find an art book or something that has it in a nicer quality.

I used to take a bunch of requests from this thread and, from my point of view, that picture is a bit of a tough sell for anyone to pick up and vector. The pose and details aren't particularly interesting to work on and the resolution being this small makes it tough to see any of the finer details like her eyes and sandals. Unless someone else has a strong attachment to the character or series, chances of a vector are slim.

If this picture matters enough to you then an alternative would be to find and commission a vector artist for some cash. Money can be a good motivator for this stuff. As for where to find said person, we had a group on deviant art with most people being active on that platform. Seeing how slow this thread has become, I'm not sure that many artists still check their own profile. There seems to be a discord group but I've not been on there so I have no info about it.

Unrelated but here's something I'm working on.
>>
>>2228730
Are you sure you want a vector? What will the final image be used for? If you really only need it to be 1920px high, I think just rendering, detexting, and a bit of painting to sharpen up details would do the trick.
>>
>>2228911
The final image will be used for appreciation of the artwork for the source anime, since it seems pretty under-appreciated for a mecha series, at least as far as I can tell.

I went to this thread because I thought someone here would be able to give it a real high-res treatment, but you think I'll be able to take my request to the current image modification thread no problem?
>>
>>2228937

You mean like making a creepy altar or a dakimakura? Lol. Anon, I know you may read this a lot. But go outside, touch grass, experience the real world and it’s breathtaking beauty. Immerse yourself in the mysteries of complexities, and bask in the glow of overwhelming simplicity. Someone may vector your pic, someone may pick it up on the IMT… if it does enjoy it, if it doesn’t just move on. You can be better, you just have to start.
>>
>>2228945
bro you're on 4chan telling somebody to touch grass

i just want that to sink in
>>
>>2228945
Perhaps I should've elaborated that it wouldn't be for creepy altars or dakimakuras or other gross forms of appreciation that I don't even think about it, but in retrospect, I really should've just put that on the text. Really sorry about that.

But that being said, maybe you have a point and I'm kinda putting too much stock in this one image. At the very least, I should lay off these lewd requests for a while.

Thanks for the reality check.

>>2228948
Now now, they meant well. And unlike most other folks in 4chan, I actually am sensible enough to go outside and indeed touch grass. (And I do mean the grass that one finds at a local park, not the kind of grass that's also a term for a certain drug.)

>>

The chain was done manually with just the pentool and masks. The tail wasn't anything special, the frills on her dress were a much bigger pain.

This is nice but a few things are bothering me: Firstly, the antialiasing. Just export in 5-10x the resolution and this should go away.

The face needs a little more attention - Just having the cheekbone line connect smoothly, the jaw be one constant line, and the hair highlights being sharp would go a long way to making it read well.

A few overlaps and line intersections are wrong - if you're going to use lines instead of filled shapes for your line work, it's important to be careful with your thickness and to avoid square line ends so you don't get those sharp nubs.

The hairline is strange - I don't see anything in the original besides a faint transition of color that indicates that grey line, and if you were trying to capture the reddish tone that continues into the sunglasses, a large thick line of even width or a gradient would have worked without the distracting one pixel shadow around the ears.

This said, I'm not the requester, so if he's happy I'm happy. Just sharing my thoughts since I made all of these mistakes and more on my first render, and I found it helpful when an anon pointed them out.

Here's an update on my current project.

Also, I have a new video tutorial featuring this exact same vector. The video itself is about gradient meshes and how to use them for shading. I had an old tutorial on the subject but I repurposed it into this new one, which I hope is better. If there's still space up there in the OP, I think a link could be added. This is a tool that I rarely see discussed or explained in the context of vectoring anime characters and it can definitely be pretty daunting to pick up at first.

For anyone interested, here's the link https://youtu.be/AWvOVBrwyoI

Anime screenshots are classics for vectors, and typically work pretty well, though they can end up a bit flat if the vectorist isn't careful about selecting line weights.

Anything cel-shaded (as opposed to smooth/soft-shaded) will translate fine to vector.

It looks like it's just the heel of the hand, the fingers are probably hidden behind the head pinching the headband. You're looking at one meaty shape and perhaps some small lines to indicate the fold where the fingers come down. Just make the pinky knuckle sharp enough to indicate the fold of the hand and you should be good.

How can I reduce the file size of all of my pictures without degrading quality or increasing the file size.
I converted a PNG into an SVG through inkscape but it's almost twice the size.
I assumed that an uncompressed vector image would consume less storage than an uncompressed raster.
What should I do here? I like the idea of vector graphics but if they're only good in theory then I'll just stick to PNG.

Vectors are not something you just "convert into" the people in this thread are spending 15+ hours per image redrawing them in order to turn it into a vector.

I am in an exceptionally good mood today, so i decided to finally do some more work on this one. The black lines should be done, although i may yet add a few colored lines.
We will see if the few details the original image provides are enough to make this look interesting. The look of the right arm is not something i am happy with yet. Neither are the gradients and blurs. I may remove them to see how hard borders look on this later

You can literally go to Google Translate, select Japanese, and bottom right of the text box there is an option to allow you to handwrite the text.
Google will use its AI recognition to give you suggestions to what you typed.
You just doodle the text as close to what's on the image and select the character that matches.

In your case, all the images have the same text, which is the title to the "Komi Cant Communicate" anime.

古見さんは、コミュ症です。

Have you checked that hand size against the other sprite? If it's the same pose in both, her hand would be tilted towards the camera and you'd probably only see her ring and pinky fingers, in a half salute sort of gesture. I can redline it later when I find my tablet. I think I was mistaken earlier when I interpreted it as a pinching gesture, though.

>>

Get back or try out vectoring?
Compare to the vectors in thread and use guide in op.
>>
>>2238034
As the others have said, you should check out the tutorials in the OP (I would suggest the one by Dekodere because it's the most recent and comprehensive).

In short, your linework looks very flat because you used strokes instead of fills, you used the same stroke width for all lines, and you used rounded stroke ends. The tutorial goes over how to improve your linework. Admittedly, it requires way more effort, but looks much better.

Your coloring is fine, but you could improve by sampling colors from some fanart, or other official art of the character if fanart is lacking. Sampling colors from an anime screenshot tends to come out kind of bland. You can also try making more use of gradients or meshes like you did with the horns.

Lastly, one of the best things about vectors is being able to improve upon the source. The horns in the source image are cut off at the top. Since it's pretty simple, you can try finishing the horns yourself, and that would drastically improve the usability of the vector. As it stands, someone could only use your vector as long as the image is boxed in at the top.

Hope this helps!

Can someone elongate her forehead please
>>
Yeah I thought about actually going for sharp ends but the original source had rounded lines so I decided against it since I dont trust my abilities enough for me to make actual improvements.
And yes I did use strokes as a basis and then converted them to fills but did not want to do a revision on actual using that to my advantage for a more dynamic stroke width since I wasn't sure what the expectations of the commissioner and myself dont care about the character (dont even know who that is)
But yeah getting back into it makes it sound like I was good at it. I was an armature back then and still am now but that was more meant as getting to know this newer version of inksacape since thats not what I had used when I first tried my hands at this and thought maybe this armature vector was enough for what the person wanted

Hello. Is there any place to request vectoring of NSFW? I went to /wg/ but there's no vector thread there. It's anime, but there's nudity.
>>
>>2244199
Request it here, but with a link to the image instead of uploading the image to 4chan directly.
>>

Thanks a lot for the input.

Anyone feels like vectoring this one, please? It's a very old (4bpp era) picture of Makoto from Sailor Moon, NSFW, probably among the first hentai fanart ever drawn.
When I was a teenager I saw this picture in a magazine even before I got to watch Sailor Moon and it made me fall for her.

Thanks a lot!

Here is the 4k version without text, whole scene

I guess you have a 4k monitor with 16:9 aspect ratio (3840 x 2160)? -> you have to specify what should be done to extend the image vertically (black bars / blurred version of the image / colors from image ...) if you want it to fit correctly

oops somehow thought this was the wallpaper thread, not vector .... but maybe someone wants to work with this version
