That's usually caused by having shapes' outlines overlapping perfectly on top each other after using the pathfinder options or the shape builder tool. I don't know the specifics but I think it's tied to the anti-aliasing, It creates a very thin white outline on the contour of shapes.Best way I found to fix this is to make sure that the shape that is on a lower layer extends a bit under the one on the top layer so that it fills the tiny gap. If it happens next to an open space then you want the shape on top to extend out a bit. I've not found a fix in the case that the shape on top contains transparency.

I had to move to a new apartment shortly after that last update so I haven't been able to work much on that vector. I managed to at least get a bit of the shading on the top part of the hair done. I'll try to see If I can get these two vectors done as soon as possible.

I believe the steps for doing so are in the tutorials on the OP post. It does take more effort, but very worth it. I used strokes in my first few conversions and it definitely made it easier but it didn't look as good. Especially around the creases in fabric, hair, or skin like the ear.Also the very bottom edge looks weird where the it crosses from the edge of the clothing to the centre. That line shouldn't exist, instead just extend the two vertical lines down and crop it. I tend to use the document edge in inkscape for that, makes it easy to crop when exporting.

I have a 1080p screen. Is there a way to make inkscape's ui less playskool? There's so much dead space and bigass buttons in these docks that the object list can only show a couple objects at once. In my earlier version of inkscape and windows I could see around 20 entries even with the F&S dock sitting there

And as to how to get better at line consistency there's not really any secret to it, just practice a lot and gradually get better at it. The only real tip to give you is make sure you're working at a consistent zoom level, so that you can actually get a feel for how thick lines should be; if you're doing one section at 300% zoom, then another at 800% zoom and finally another section at 1200% zoom you're just making it unnecessarily difficult on yourself.
