Stuff like this makes me wanna try out Linux. Looks mad cozy. I've tried changing the look of the file explorer on windows but it looked like shit.
>>
>>2182837
Both of those desktops are mine. The look of Linux desktops can be very appealing to beginners, because changing and configuring the aspect of your system is immensely easier on Linux than on Windows and the results can be very good, depending on the user's skills and knowledge. However, as a humanities teacher who's been using Linux both on his personal machines and on the machines at his school for 5 years, I can tell you that what makes Linux better is what lies under the hood. At the end of the day, you can try to make Windows look as good as Linux, but the problem is that you're still using the same old limited software that was designed with the mind to control the user and not the other way round. The longer I used Linux, the less I regretted leaving Windows. Some tools such as Dolphin for KDE are way too good for me to come back to Windows now: I literally only use Windows to play games, for everything else Linux simply works much better, especially on mid/low-end machines.
>>
>>2182852
How do you go between Linux and WIndows ? I might just make the switch. I haven't looked into in a long time and I assume I'll still need Windows for a lot of school programs.

Here is my variant on breeze, its not actually breeze dark but says it is since its merely edited. I try to keep my system function over form, but I try to make the form as best I can. Rather I didn't spend too much time ricing, rather than tracking down and modifying existing components. I'm nearly done too, just trying to get square borders that don't look awful. So far there's been glitches with all of them. If anyone knows of a squared breeze window decoration I'd love to know.

I use Linux for work and school and windows for games and some other stuff like Premiere and After Effects.
I'm about to switch from Win7 to Win10 and I'm pretty happy that it's finally made switch from fake 3D back to flat UI, and I'm also mostly fine with how it looks, but would still like to have a more consistent look between frequently used programs and so on.

why do you use brave? also why pale moon? and why tor?
and why bugdom.jpg?
>>
>>2183747
brave I use as my current main browser because it's(as far as I know) trustworthy, automatic adblock that I would've added anyway, chromium based so I need to learn fuck all about UI, and you can apparently make money through brave rewards by letting it give you advertisements in a(from what I've researched) filtered way where it doesn't expose your info. haven't tried it.

pale moon as well as iridium on the task bar were downloaded to try out when I was getting into cyber security. might use one or ungoogled chromium if I drop brave.

tor is for "just in case" situations like if I want to open a link I don't trust or if I want to find something random in a less filtered landscape

bugdom.jpg is the icon for Bugdom: a game I played years ago back in my mac days. found the icon in my files and figured I'd find a way to fuck around with it.

>How does that make anything safer?
tor has layers to it. If the link has some tracking shit to it then it won't get much when it comes to location because it bounces you from one to the next. not to mention there's not much else data to look at because nothing really saves on tor unless you make it so. can there still be threats? probably but that(to my knowledge) usually stems from downloading stuff. regardless, tor is probably your best bet for looking at sketchy shit safely.

>How does that make searching less filtered?
tor opens up a bunch of things to find that you wouldn't through traditional browsing. basically you might see deep web stuff. could be harmless could be not.

two clocks, inconsistent top bar, text next to the icons and date should go. also remove as many icons from the bottom as possible, it's doable with keybinds. by the way, why do windows posters here do neofetch? you don't use a terminal often anyway and it's not really riceable on windows

you cant really change anything about it except for color, fonts, and icons. but the differences can be like night and day if you know what you are doing.

or if you are new to windows 10 ricing i recommend you to follow Chloe Chantelle guide https://ricing.chloechantelle.com

and for "advanced" ricing you can use nanami tan guide for reference, most of the stuff here are outdated since the guide was made for windows 7 so make sure you prioritized chloe guide over nanami tan

My knowledge on this is extremely low, and I'm using Windows which is apparently worse for this sort of thing. I'm finding myself enjoying this although. What can I use to further customize on Windows?

I'm not an expert, but I think you can rice any distro quite alright.
The main difference is how it'll look out of the box. I always thought something like Ubuntu or Mint is fine if you're used to Windows and want to ease into Linux.
Bit depending on how many angry (you)s I'll get for this suggestion, you might want to try something else instead.

reddit is great to search for obscure rainmeter skins and that's it.

most people that made UX themes, icon packs, browser skins, and other useful ricing apps are usually hanging out on deviantart. you can hate the website as much as you want, but the stuff they share there are legit good.
>>
>>2185294
How would I go about finding this sort of stuff on DeviantArt. I can easily find rainmeter items, but everything else seems tricky to find
>>
>>2185342
you can search them with basic terms like "windows 10 skins" "vivaldi themes" "musicbee skins" "windows 10 icon packs." and it will be right there for you to browse and download, you have to sign up an account to download the files but it's not a big deal in my opinion, they also come with guides usually which is really handy if you are not familiar to ricing windows 10 yet

>>

based you actually set your wallpaper to it
>>
>>2185370
How did you get the window buttons to be as narrow? Windows 10 usually has them spread out like hell
>>
>>2185448
some of it is coming from the dracula VS im using, some of it from Winaero tweaker (you can decrease the window title bar height, which makes the spacing a bit smaller)
anyway i noticed the shadowfx im using in my screen looks hideous lol
>>
>>2185452
Yeah I tried that before but someone at Microsoft tied the tray icons to the title bar so if you decrease the height too much tray icons start to break lol
>>
>>2185501
maybe try to change the titlebar font size too? though if you use the windows theme theres probably not that much of a margin for an "error", i havent really had any problems with custom themes breaking on me
its possible to do this through aerotweaker too, but here are some screens of what it can do https://www.wintools.info/index.php/advanced-system-font-changer-font-settings
>>

Whats the most up to date ricing guide for windows 10? https://ricing.chloechantelle.com/ this one?
Also, should I try bblean? I heard many different things about it
>>
>>2185708
yeah, chloe guide is the most up to date for now but it's also very basic, you can tandem it with nanamitan guide if you want to dive into more advanced ricing.

I'm not sure about BBlean myself, i have heard great things about it for Win 7 ricing but for win10?

Rainmeter is obvious for tiny desktops widgets and a dock if you please.
The personalization function of windows allows for color changes, and a good amount of taskbar changes.
Winearo tweaker also gives a good amount of personlization such as aero lite which is what I'm currently using to get those full window borders, and change the default font.
I'm currently working on figuring out more complex changes though.

So I'm attempting to use one of these custom themes. I installed that themepatcher, and it shows up in the theme tab of the personalization settings, but no changes are made other than just changing the border color. What exactly am I doing incorrectly here?
