>>2182837Both of those desktops are mine. The look of Linux desktops can be very appealing to beginners, because changing and configuring the aspect of your system is immensely easier on Linux than on Windows and the results can be very good, depending on the user's skills and knowledge. However, as a humanities teacher who's been using Linux both on his personal machines and on the machines at his school for 5 years, I can tell you that what makes Linux better is what lies under the hood. At the end of the day, you can try to make Windows look as good as Linux, but the problem is that you're still using the same old limited software that was designed with the mind to control the user and not the other way round. The longer I used Linux, the less I regretted leaving Windows. Some tools such as Dolphin for KDE are way too good for me to come back to Windows now: I literally only use Windows to play games, for everything else Linux simply works much better, especially on mid/low-end machines.
>>2182852How do you go between Linux and WIndows ? I might just make the switch. I haven't looked into in a long time and I assume I'll still need Windows for a lot of school programs. Are they any resources you can point me to get started ?Thanks

Liked it, but around 70% of the time, distro updates (always done 3 - 4wks after release) would either break midway and fail to install (forcing me to backup, format, and reinstall from the new version) or would fail to update and break the installation itself (again forcing me to backup and reinstall). Ditched Ubuntu for MX Linux since it was popular on distro watch. Used it for 6 months and hate everything about XFCE and likewise hate the clusterfuck that is GNOME on it. A friend talked me in to trying Manjaro. I was hesitant as you find deb packages everywhere and I was expecting to have to install from source (which isn't that big of a deal; it's just a pain IMO)
>>2188732Well how would you improve it then?
>>2188711>>2188732I changed it. I'm not a hardcore ricer lol.
>>2188751It still looks like shit.

Haven't made major changes to my rice for a while, but I wish it were as nice as some of your desktops, /w/.
Is Garuda OS any good?
>>2188989I've been using it for about a week now and my experience has been very nice. Garuda manages to be very polished OOTB while introducing very little bloat into your system, compared to distros like Ubuntu and Manjaro.I personally went with the i3wm version; And while I had to change some stuff cuz it didn't work, the experience has been awesome.
>>2188994>using it for about a week>very little bloat>1233 packagesRidiculous
>>2188998>compared to distros like Ubuntu and ManjaroLearn to read sir. Also I've added a lot of stuff for my workflow setup.
Might be a bit of a longshot here, but have any of you guys ever tried bbzero on Win10? Recently had to upgrade from 7. I've got everything working relatively well but the search bar in Explorer seems to be the only thing not working.
>>2188492May it never be!

brainlet here what do I do to customize the right click menu so I can go directly to folders

>>2180911You can still rice on DEs, it's just a tad bit harder, not even THAT hard, it's a little more of an inconvenience than regular ricing on WMs.KDE's lack of useful documentation is particularly irritating. You need to reverse engineer pre-existing themes to learn how to rice that fucking shit. They have wiki's telling you how to package your themes, but there's not a single page telling you how to tag your icons or what a certain file does in the desktoptheme folder. But it was honestly completely worth it. I just need to finish my status bar and I'll be posting mine here soon.
>>2184940I hope you don't listen to the trolls, don't install arch or gentoo expecting it to be easy. It will be very hard.Install Kubuntu or Manjaro for starters. It has KDE and it's very easy to get running.>>2184944>>2186735You fucking faggots, if people go over to the Linux side we'll get the benefits too. Imagine a world where the game companies start rolling out Linux versions of their games more often.
Aren't there people with guro wallpapers or it just gets deleted by jannies here?
