The second installment if the Gloomy Urban thread! The picture must be *Gloomy*. *Urban* is ideal but not required. Artist is chihuri (ちふり) on PixivIf we make it through this thread, I'll make an archive of all the posts made from the first, second thread, and all threads that may come after.
Have a post my friends!

>>2165038Sorry for the late reply! I'm working on a special post now just because of you! I really appreciate it when people stop to say hi and say such kind things so I want to make sure you know you were heard and appreciated. I just post gloomy anime papes but I am glad that I can make other people happy doing something so small. I name you *LurkN*. If you ever post again and want me to recognize you, feel free to use that tag. I'm off to work on my post. For the time being, have a cool pape!>>2165098That's a really nice one. Thank you for your post!
My post has been almost done for a while but boy can I procrastinate. It's not even that big of a task. I'm just really lazy. Have a pape as a small compensation

>>2165859Hey man, you're pretty cool. I just bought an old PSP and I want to put some gloomy a e s t h e t i c pictures on it, so this thread is great. Thanks. Are you an artist yourself? How did you get into this little microcosm?
>>2165945Really appreciate that chief. Glad you appreciate the aesthetic.I like to draw but I feel like a fake artist. I can make it look like I know how to draw but I lack fundamentals. In high school, I doodled a lot in class and I created and drew a lot of characters but often in rather static poses.I also never really had anyone teach me anything, I kind of just doodled till it looked alright. I have stopped drawing mostly since I got out of school but I still occasionally draw my favorite character. As for how I got into this aesthetic, I have a friend who is really into "cozy" in the warm, log cabin, rustic type of look. I like more industrial cold looks so I started collecting what I called "Cold Cozy" pictures that made me feel comfortable (mostly wallpapers). I loathe the heat and love the cold so that's why I prefer the cold look. I found a thread called Gloomy Urban and I realized my "Cold Cozy" aesthetic fit in almost perfectly into urban gloomy. I uploaded quite a few papes and people seemed to like it so I kept doing it!Sorry for the autobiography. For your time and attention, have a pape!
>>2165859>>2165860You are a wonderful person, Anon. Thank you for your contribution.
>>2166013Your kind words are appreciated anon. Would you care for a pape?
>>2166061>Posting a Ducati papeAnon, how did you know I ride a Ducati? You truly are kind.
>Enyen knows all. Thank you for your praise. I will give you another pape out of respect. hopefully you can find some use of it
>>2165860Wow, thanks for the response. I'm following them all on Pixiv now. Anyway, I was reading what you said here >>2165960. For what its worth, I'm even less than an artist imo. Every time I try to draw/paint something I feel so ashamed at the result like I should never try again. If I could get over myself I would make more 'Cold Cozy' pieces; its such an underated aesthetic. Most peopl just want vaporwave/outrun. I found these artists and thought of you, their works are not urban but still thematicaly consistent. Hopefully you'll like them.XilmO@夕末 (users/19389056)堅貝 (users/31733029)せろめた (users/26267972)Sorry idk how to link these
>>2164326awesome finally wallpapers for my 12:17, portrait, 0.6 megapixel screen...
I swear if /w/ didn't enforce a minimum resolution, motherfuckers would post favicons from their favourite websites here...
>>2167559>>2167560These people are trying to be part of something and contribute. The idea is more or less to share a mood and idea, not just post 4k 300dpi. I shoot for high resolution but its not a deal breaker. Contribute something yourself and help others instead of being a dick and bashing on people who are trying to have a good time. If you are just going to make fun of people, go somewhere else. >>2167534I'm actually a fan of 堅貝, I guess I missed them in my post. Also for future reference, the "master" in your file name is a thumbnail. To the the full image in Pixiv, you have to click on the image to maximize it and THEN save it. Wish you luck LurkN!
Anyone know a good anime to watch? I would like to watch something right now since there isn't much else to do during quarantine. My favorite shows at the moment areLand of The LustrousGirls Last Tour (if you like gloomy urban, you really need to watch this show)Psycho PassKonosubaGhost in The ShellIf you have a show similar to any of these, please let me know. I am very bored.
>>2166513Nice one. Snowy days are so good.
>>2168001If you like GLT, you might appreciate Ange's Egg. It's got the same atmosphere but, just not moe.
Thanks for making this thread. urban misery is my friend.
>>2168001parasyte or cencoroll might be of interest, although the gloom is not urban.
>>2168123Just watched Cencoroll and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm not super critical though. I just sit and enjoy. I like the characters but it was lacking a little. I wouldnt hold it against it though, it was an indie anime that got picked up by Aniplex 10 years later right?>>2168081I think I will watch Angel's Egg next. I think there is a reference to it in the Darksouls 3 dlc and I love darksouls.Any other recommendations would be nice!
NORMAL WALLPAPERBUT AN ANIME GIRL
>>2168001try out something like Haibane Renmei, Kino's Journey, Sora no Woto, or Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou.
thanks for starting the thread enyen, i loved the first one and im a big fan of the gloomy urban aesthetic. keep it up.
>>2168597Thank you kind friend. I make sure I don't let the thread get too old. It can be hard to find a good post though
I've lurked this thread for a while so I think it's finally time I posted something. It's called Cold Memory by あきま on pixiv.Sorry if this doesn't count as gloomy and/or urban.
>>2165860Thank you so much!
>>2169337that defos is gloomy.urban only in the sense that it's in a modern setting.
>>2169545forgot pic
>>2168328
>>2165859>>2165860Appreciate this. Big thanks anon. Cheers for great thread>>2166513Love edits like this. Have the yotsuba book in this style. Any more would be awesome, particularly where care has been taken to get perspective, lighting, and ambience most of the way there
>>2169931Cheers mate
>>2165294I've never come to this side of the board before, I usually reside in /g/, you seem to be wellrespected, it's cool to see people use the name, I don't know why /g/ immediately calls peoplethat use it tripfags
Guess I should add to the thread while I'm here
>>2170628Being a tripfag is when you use a name or trip for a post when who you are has no impact on your post. Using a name otherwise is fine./a/, /b/, /v/, and /g/ are all full of newfags it feels like sometimes; But maybe that's just me being a prick.
>>2170628>>2170911I myself am quite fond of this board. Since I post so often I decided to give myself a name. I don't think anyone here has a problem with using names since everyone here is really chill. Besides, its nice to see a name show up again because that means people come back to this thread.
It's been a quiet week, huh?
found a lot of good stuff itt, contributing
>>2168001Have you tried the ancient magus's bride ? it's gorgeous or Big O , it has a very nice atmosphere set in a noire art deco city.
>>2171370Thanks for the content, chief>>2171416I tried AMB but I ended up dropping it, but I havent heardd of Big O. I'll give it a look.
Amazing thread guys. Thank you.
I haven't posted here in a while. I'm very unused to the lack of accounts and notifications.Anyways, here's one I found by しおん
>>2172156Nice to see you again Yuki. thank you for your contribution!
>>2165859>>2165860AMAZING thread and amazing work, bro! I really appreciate the information in this post and the hard work you've done in general.I presume you have a whole ton of other gloomy urban pictures you haven't uploaded. I truly hope at some point you might make an archive and upload it on Mega or somewhere. Would be great to have these in one go.Thank you again for your efforts here!
>>2168001Kino no tabi is probably the best I can think of, along with any of Abe's stuff. But the other anon already suggested these.I wouldn't call it "similar" to anything you posted but I've seen and enjoyed all those shows too, and one other I love is Kekkai Sensen. Please at least give it a try.
Apologies if either of these don't suit the thread...>>2164311Are you able to make/link an archive of the first thread so we don't get repeat posts in early days?1/2
2/2
>>2172914Thank you!>>2173231If we manage to make it to the end of this thread, I will indeed make an archive. I just want to make sure there is a decent enough demand for the gloomy urban genre. >>2173228I got recommended Kino by another friend as well so Ill take a look.
New one by Chihuri
Bit slow huh
why do japanese artists always have so much soul in their art
>>2164311I'm pretty glad to have checked this thread, because this general aesthetic is right up my alley. I don't have anything perfect to contribute, but I'll be on the lookout for things like this in the future. Thanks OP.
>>2175680Growing up and realizing you're just another Zergling in the hive will do that to you.
>>2175699This looks like my country a lot, except for those giant things in the background.
Why do we consider convenience stores as gloomy?>>2175861If you don't know what they are, those are nuclear cooling towers.
>>2176182Thanks, english isn't my first language, I just couldn't figure out what they are called there and then.
>>2170630yoooo more like this one man.i love gloomy cityscapes like this
>>2176182i find it weird too, but for me its probably the fact that i rely on them so much with almost every basic needs its kinda scary, the music and lighting lend a hand too
Glad to have found this thread during my yearly visit to this board. Artist is Rotain, I believe.>>2168001You got a solid taste and received some just as solid recommendations, hope you enjoyed all of which you tried.

>>2180458Thanks chief!
>>2176182>If you don't know what they are, those are nuclear cooling towers. Not to be pedantic, but those types of towers can be used in coal plants, or really any industrial application that needs to cool superheated water.
>>2182362That is a fair point, I should have shortened it to just "cooling tower" but the lack of an additional chimney for coal (although, it is quite foggy so it is hard to tell definitively) leads me to believe it is a nuclear tower as the coal chimneys are typically taller than their cooling tower counterparts but I am by no means an expert.I love these types of conversations but others probably just come here for the pictures, so here, have two for your troubles
>>2182465
please excuse the small image sizeBut I just see so much potential for this aesthetic! From (non anime) art to poetry, music and even subculturethank you Enyen and the other anons for keeping this thread aliveim sure there are many more people out there that resonate with this aesthetic!
>>2170443Artist?Sorry if it's been said before, can't find it.

>>2182594Sorry, I got caught up in the sauce hunt and forgot to respond to you. Thank you for coming by and contributing. It may be small but I have never seen that piece before and I have seen quite a bit at this point. You can probably tell at this point but I am quite fond of this subculture myself so I am happy you are here and enjoying yourself.
>>2165294I like this one a lot, would love to see more
>>2183375Artist is 橋本 洸介 on Pixiv. Do note that they make some nsfw work.If you like this one by them, go get it from their page. It's too big to post the full rez herehttps://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/78325346

I hadn't realized how much seeing depictions of people amidst oppressive/depressing cityscapes appealed to me until I saw this thread. Thanks, OP.
>>2185952
>>2170628For good reason though. What's the difference with posting content and artist sauce without a name? Nothing really. The guy is just going off an endorphin high on this extremely slow moving board. The oldfag in me will always call out people like that.
Is there any of these artist who uses twitter? Please recommend me some
>>2188125Would you have posted if you didn't want to call me out? Being recognized is the main goal but for a different reason than chasing endorphins. I don't mind the negativity, that is fine. I just do it because it brings in at least a few more papes that I might not have seen. Thanks for the post, I like it.Might as well add something myself while I am at it
