They added hardware acceleration, so it uses your GPU instead of CPU.
Usually sits at 3% CPU at max, but that's because I'm on an old i3, probably insignificant to a newer cpu.
If gaming is a concern there's Game mode, which disables rainmeter untill you tick it off.

In terms of color schema I'm curious. Personally wound up preferring more universally darker schemes as that seems to be easier on the eyes but that is mostly anecdotal.

Probably more appropriate would be picking a palette based on something like this:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4734149/

which discusses effects of LED photoemission on circadian systems and eye physiology. I'd personally like something that maintains proper circadian rhythms while providing clarity and forestalling age-related macular degeneration. I'm beginning to think that those goals may be in opposition of each other.. Probably necessitates switching themes based on time, though I've never been able to use a light color scheme any period of time without some discomfort.

I guess I'm attaching my desktop and applications (it's not very tech-savvy) as its my default scheme and I'm wondering if another palette would work better.

On that note, what good debian packages are there for this? Just some kind of lightweight color schema manager?

Red, yellow, blue is used often with grey. Grey is fairly neutral so you won't have many problems finding colours to go with it. It's just when you have a blue tinge to it or some other tinge that you'd have to be careful.

I should feel bad for posting here, since my desktop can hardly be considered as a rice attempt. What is overall experience with Pop!_OS?
I'm considering switch from Fedora 32 to Pop, is good to see a dedicated iso for NVIDIA Drivers and Podman on Fedora doesn't fit all my needs.
>>
>>2168796
>What is overall experience with Pop!_OS?
Pretty excellent, at least for my user case. My laptop has low specs, in fact when I was installing Pop_OS I was warned by the installer that my system had a slightly worse CPU power compared to the system requirements of Pop_OS. According to the installer, I should have expected slowdowns and freezes, but what I actually got was a smooth and solid experience. I'm using the Intel/AMD version right now, but yeah, it's great that they provide different versions based on the graphic card of your machine.
>>
>>2168800
Thanks!
What is your user case?
>>
>>2168818
>What is your user case?
I mostly use my laptop for browsing the net, watching media content using mpv (which works great out of the box with not tweaking, since the system has detected the best settings according to my specs) and smart working through Google services, since the school I'm working in is subscried to the Google GSuite. The integration of Nautilus with online accounts is also really good and helps a lot with browsing the files on Google Drive.
>>
>>2168916
Thanks again, my user case is to use for run docker containers with Python and SQL/NoSQL, web browsing and emulate retro games.
Would be Pop!_OS good for me?
>>
>>2168926
>Would be Pop!_OS good for me?
I don't know the meaning of a docker container, but for the rest I would say absolutely yes. For retro gaming, you can download Retro Arch, which works really well on Linux and even the support for controllers has become better and better over the years. I could set my SNES iBuffalo controller very easily and it works as well as it does on Windows.

Music player and taskbar are the only things I bothered with. Don't really feel like messing with system files to rice explorer. Will probably work on ricing Firefox eventually.

Is there any workaround to different display settings messing up Windows themes? I've found a few different good ones that I had to pass on because the "medium" setting screws with the icons quite a bit, like adding an X on top of the usual close icons or the icons themselves looking smudged.

fellow win10fag here, i have been using falconx and rainmeter for quite a while.

i really want to try custom uxstyle and uxtheme. but from themes i have seen, it looks like it stripped down a lot of the explorer features, granted i dont usually use them since shortcuts exists, but they are handy when i forgot some of them.

so is it really worth the hassle anons? i really wanna move to pop!os but my work use microsoft office 365 features and dual boot sounds impractical;-;
>>
>>2173687
What you saw was probably people disabling the RibbonUI with OldNewExplorer, that has nothing to do with custom themes so you can use UltraUX Theme Patcher and custom themes without losing any functionality.

stock. sort of. scrollbar deleted and navigation toolbox is hidden when unfocused (simple css). F6 focuses address field so tabs shows up if needed. 4ch styling added in toolbox just for that post. esr because 72 removed stuff that's maybe needed for scrollbar removal (and definitely removed other useful things that I'm not using). haven't bothered to test. you should always esr anyway. updates bad.

>windows/explorer
1903 theme i made. scrollbars are useless so they show on hover only just in case. caption buttons are useless so they also just show on hover. (or not at all since titlebars are hidden in screenshot)

taskbar is on a toggle. it's just a regular window and can thus be hidden with the windows api. winshow/winhide in ahk or whatever other method you want to use.

titlebar "removal" same thing. change the style of window with WinSet in ahk https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/winmsg/window-styles
windows 10 doesn't play nice with it and leaves a tiny bar still. same colour in this theme so not as noticeable. I don't do this anymore because of that and just use a blank font instead (since my caption buttons are on hover anyway).

damn i wish my mum would let me have three clocks
>>
>>2178436
most of it are either outdated or has been added as a feature for windows 10. giving the chloechantelle guide a priority is always a good idea.
>>
>>2178297
when i think of ricing the first thing that come in mind is over the top widgets with info that nobody needs, 97269372082370 clocks, and font that while might looks good for your eye, is bad for readability.

avoid it if you dont want a rice look. for now i use custom theme with secure ux theme patcher, a lot of registry tweaks and oldnewexplorer to remove the explorer ribbon. icon packs with similar colour palettes can look good too but personally i think making one for every app i use is a pain in the ass and the original win10 icons doesnt look that bad anyway.

i would recommend making your own taskbar with rainmeter, but if you think its too much you can modify the original windows taskbar instead with apps like taskbarx, translucenttb or openshell.

happy (not) ricing anon
