Lupin the Third thread
>>2146079
Found this on wallhaven, and upscaled it.
>>2147943modern style art seems sorta wrong
>>2149508Latest arcs of Lupin have him in the modern day, and even then he was always using whatever he could at the time, the 1990's and 2000's had him using computers and stuff. It is a bit jarring to try and understand his age in the later arcs since the characters even imply they've been doing it for years yet barely look like they've aged a day in 1971 or so.
>>2150308>It is a bit jarring to try and understand his age in the later arcs since the characters even imply they've been doing it for years yet barely look like they've aged a day in 1971 or so.Yeah the time is pretty wonky it's best to pretend the franchise has no continuity and time progression unless it's otherwise brought up. Each series is basically it's own universe anyway best not to think of his personality shifts or age.
>>2150311>Each series is basically it's own universe anyway best not to think of his personality shifts or age.Part V kind of took that idea away, since the final few episodes actually bring back several minor one off characters from Part 1, 2 and 3, and since it also has continuity with Part 4 you could argue it's all connected in some way, even the movies since Part 5 also made several movies canon if they weren't before. Red vs Green had the weird idea that there are hundreds of Lupin's around the world and they all believe they're the real Lupin, ranging from Part 1 to 3 (pic related) and had tons of different art styles to match the time period they were meant to be from. (Although, I can't remember that plot for the life of me, it was very confusing. I think it ends with someone replacing Lupin as a new Lupin III), so who knows what kind of Lupin story we're actually getting in the end.
>>2150314>Although, I can't remember that plot for the life of me, it was very confusing. I think it ends with someone replacing Lupin as a new Lupin IIBeen a while since I've seen it, but I think it had something to do with an older Lupin claiming to be the real Lupin and the protagonist Lupin trying to foils some plan he had. Ends with them on the roof with a cool scene in the style of the original manga whatever Lupin made it out was the true Lupin or something.Fun OVA with lot's of neat references, but very confusing and hard to follow. Never really got through all of V since to be perfectly honest most of the modern Lupin media hasn't been my cup of tea, but I know characters do occasionally make a comeback in older stuff. There's the whole OVA dedicated to Pycal, Return of the Magician. Plus mild continuity between Green Jacket and Red Jacket especially early on. Still kinda weird to think of the series having a continuous story and universe though. Imagining stuff like A Women Called Fujiko Mine in the same universe as Bye Bye Lady Liberty is kinda hard to do.
>>2150320>Fun OVA with lot's of neat references, but very confusing and hard to follow. Honestly yeah, I didn't like it much when I finished it but after looking it up it made a lot more sense and I can appreciate the effort put it. Plus having an actual McDonalds in an anime was surprising. Did make me wonder how Lupin is seen in his own world, apparently the events of Castle of Cagliostro had a movie. >Never really got through all of V since to be perfectly honestThat's a shame, I really enjoyed Part V mostly because I enjoyed the nature of connected stories more than separate one off deals (I feel I'm in the minority for that though). The story of Part V was pretty good. I enjoyed the character of Ami and her arc, plus the idea of Zenigata letting her stay with him in his crappy apartment was nice since she had nowhere else to go (plus seeing more of Zenigata's life is cool). I also enjoyed the final arc where Goemon believed that Lupin considered him part of his collection and had a pretty deadly fight with him, kinda wish Lupin was out for the episode rather than waking up 10 minutes in. Goemon's one off episode was great as well.>Still kinda weird to think of the series having a continuous story and universe though. Imagining stuff like A Women Called Fujiko Mine in the same universe as Bye Bye Lady Liberty is kinda hard to do.I actually considered that more of a spinoff than anything, it's too disconnected from the world of anime Lupin and it even tries to emulate the darker tone of the manga anyhow. The idea of Zenigata fucking Fujiko is just odd and off putting too, I enjoyed it for what it was though even if people think it's a horrible mess. Still, I'm happy that Miyazaki came in and made Lupin the carefree thief he is rather than the coldblooded rapist killer he was in the manga and by extension A Women Called Fujiko Mine
If you think of Zenigata as a regular character instead of a member of Team Rocket, it is understandable.
>>2146079I like lupinBut I fucking LOVE goemon and think he's the real mcwhat is the essential goemon guide?
Does anybody have a collection of the commercial cut images from part 5, like this one? I absolutely love them but don't have all of them.
>>2153425
>>2153425Here's the two from Episode 18, upscaled. (1)
>>2153623I love how Goemon the Dog is also there. (2)
>>2153135Wouldn't call this the "essential" guide, but here's some episode episodes I remember with him being a big or interesting part of. Episode 05 and 07 of Part 1 obviously, Episode 24, 55, 56, 61, 103, 108, 112 of Part 2, 05, 24, 26, 38, 47 of Part 3. Episode 10, 17 of Part 4 and Episode 16 and 18 of Part 5. Had to go through a few of these episodes on my hard drive just to make sure, and probably missed a few but I'd say these are a decent amount.Part 5 also gives Goemon a lot of interesting development and even the last arc deals with how Lupin views him as a person, so you might as well watch the whole Part. Can't say much for the movies but I know that The Fuma Conspiracy is a Goemon movie.

>>2150320>to be perfectly honest most of the modern Lupin media hasn't been my cup of teaThose character-centered OVAs from the last four years have been some of the most awesome pieces of media that the franchise has ever seen.

>>2162028Why not contribute yourself? It's not that hard to google and upscale an image you might want and share here instead of a boring bump.
The new series actually was not bad. I only saw the first two episodes so far though.
>>2163740Nice save from page 10. And yeah, the new series was fun and probably my favourite just because it did a good job of having standalone episodes and a pretty decent story arc that I liked. Ami is a fun character and it was interesting to see her be able to do things Lupin couldn't in regards to technology and computers, but still in a position that required protection.

Can't wait for the movie to come out. Hope it gets a dub for the western release.

>>2167186Sometime in 2020 is all we know but with the coronavirus it might be 2021 or so, it's hard to know but it is getting a western release.

>>2168563Love the Fujiko. Is there more in this style?
>>2146079Might as well upload a few shots from the Blu-ray release.
>>2170469I know they're not perfect wallpapers, but it's better than giving it a boring old text bump.
>>2170470Also, the film was okay. I thought it'd better than it was but it wasn't bad. Felt like Cagliostro in a lot of ways, and even has a few parallels.
>>2170472Hoping for a 4k release and dub honestly, would love to watch this again in a cinema, but with a dub so it'll feel fresher.
>>2170469Lupin looks plastic.
>>2171608I think that the more cartoony look fits the movie seeing as Lupin is a very exaggerated character.
Here, OP. I'll bump your thread for you this time around. A lovely shot from Mystery of Mamo.

For how prominent it features in all the promotions, the hat and cane are really minor in the movie.

Glad to see you're still bumping this thread, OP.
>>2163750Nee abckground thanks brol m
I absolutely love Lupin III. To the OP and all other contributors (including those posting morally supportive comments): Thank you. This is my favorite thread on /w/, past or present. It's a poison dagger in my heart that Japan Web did not include Lupin III in their Greatest Anime of All Time lineup: https://jw-webmagazine.com/best-anime/Not to blame JW entirely, I have yet to find a "Greatest", "Best" or "Top" Anime of all time list that includes Lupin. I guess I'm just a weirdo who thinks Lupin III > Fullmetal Alchemist/My Hero Academia/Dragon Ball/Tokyo Ghoul/Attack on Titan or whatever is popular with children these days.
Meant to contribute with my post above, not just gush like crazy over Lupin.
A larger version of this one here >>2170023
When did this crossover happen? Did it even happen? Was it a radio drama? I don't get it, assuming it isn't just a fan art, but I missed the crossover between my two favorite anime (Lupin III & Cowboy Bebop).
We really need more Lupin "renders in shapes" backgrounds.
Lupin Forever.
>>2153497A larger version of this background.
A cropped but superior version of the one here >>2156771 since this mobile version doesn't have that ugly, terrible font in the upper left half.
Please don't die, you're the best thing on /w/.
The companion/counterpart to this work here >>2158430
Lupin > Sam Fisher, James Bond, Jack Bauer, etc.
This would make a great widescreen wallpaper if widescreen borders were added.
>>2192431It's just fanart riffing on the two series having similar character archetypes (although Goemon is probably closer to Vicious imo).>>2192628Tried an edit to make it fit a little nicer in 16:9.
>>2192686Your edit is beautiful! The best work I've ever seen on /w/ and I absolutely love it. Thank you so much.Additionally, thank you for clarifying Lupin the 3rd v. Cowboy Bebop art. I mistook it for official artwork. I agree with you that Radical Edward should have been replaced by Viscious, who is much more Goemon's Bebop counterpart.Thank you for giving this thread some love.
>>2192421Japan have pretty trashy taste imo, and that list is no exception. Lupin is fantastic though, such a shame it didn't make it.
Loved this image of someone's Lupin figures enough to upscale it and use it.
How was the 3d cgi?
>>2197925Really good. The movie plot was a mix of Ark of the Covenant and Crystal Skull. So weird, but definitely worth checking out for the animation. The character designs were adapted perfectly and it is very fluid. I especially love how expressive Lupin is. It's honesty the best CGI anime I've seen.
>>2197927I have it in my watchlist. Nice to know it is worthy.

>>2216890Got more?
New commercial splits are fun. Hopefully they release a textless version of the updated OP.
>>2218905>>2218906still getting used to the new art style
>>2213359Is seeing the earlier one needed at all?
>>2223536Lupin continuity is always pretty loose, and per usual it's mostly "hey I recognize this iconography/musical cue" stuff. Albert, a character from Part 5, shows up in a couple early episodes of 6 but you can pick up what you need to know about him from context clues. Also if you haven't seen any earlier parts then you can skip episode 0.
>>2223536Nah, not really. I will say watching Part IV and V is a nice way to get into "modern" Lupin without too much of a time sink. So if you're really worried you could watch those before VI but it's not needed at all. Although, IV and V are pretty great parts.

>>2224550Different anon here, thanks for posting this. I really liked Cagliostro and have been wondering for a while if I should start from the very start or somewhere else then catch up other bits later
The McD's ads are fun.>>2236464"Cagliostro" is narratively a bit of an outlier because Miyazaki was writing a coda to his run on the show, so Lupin is more mature and less of a devious skirt-chaser that he is in 99% of the franchise. As far as other movies - "Mystery of Mamo" is fun but gets really crazy, kind of emphasizes how far the series can go in contrast to Cagliostro. "First Contact" is a TV special prequel that's a good intro. For the first three TV series YMMV on what you enjoy due to their age and varying tones, I'd suggest finding a list or two of recommended episodes and jumping around to get a feel of what you like before committing to watching any show front-to-back. The modern TV series are a bit more linear but you can still comfortably watch many of their episodes piecemeal, too.,
