New factions incoming in the next patch for the RTR:IS mod.

As much as I enjoy the other mods, RTR:IS has been reliably stable and polished than all the others. This is a good go-to while other mods stabilize.

They look good. The worst part about total war mods is the general disregard for UI art, especially when it comes to building artwork. You spend a decent amount of time on the campaign map looking at ugly artwork.

>Massalia
im pretty sure thats not it as the devs were holding a bitch fest about massalia not being a faction ever in the game.
>>
>>898247
The factions aren't officially announced, they only shared the faction symbols. I pulled what seemed like the best guesses from the discord.
>>
>>898262
maybe they changed their minds, i would like it personally. from what i remember, they didnt like massalia because there wasnt enough sources on their troops to their liking and they didnt want to make shit up. while i can appreciate that, like just give them a prototypical greek roster, would make for a fun start.
>>
>>898041
>>898046
I've seen a lot of mod proposals for warhammer rome/medieval, crusaders kings but nothing concrete yet. The only one I think is a mod that adds the malazan faction for Dominions.
My idea is to make a mod that goes from the beginning of the invasion of Genabackis (the map I posted before) to the siege of the city of Pale that happens in the first book. The factions would be mostly humans, with the exception of the Barghast and Moranth who have human features anyway. The Malazans also use demons that could be added to their roster. Then there would be the Tiste Andii who look like drow. And of course mages.
>>
>>897474
I've seen a lot people complain about RTR:IS performance. How bad is it?
>>
>>898548
Boohoo poorfag cant play a vidya released in 2021 with 2000 hardware
>>
>>898572
People aren't talking about the game's performance itself, it's apparently the mod. RTR:IS comes with a graphics pack (can be downloaded on steam standalone) that seems to lower performance significantly. Also seems to really make the colour pallete bleak and washed out.
>>
>>898582
There's a way to deactivate the enhanced graphics, I just don't know how. It runs fine for me, but I can definitely see how it can cause problems for others.

its such a shame that conan has never had a mod in these grand strategy games. would be perfect for the game, and you can even have low fantasy shit, maybe in the form of armor for generals.
>>
>>899981
No, the reasoning at the time was that there was not enough sources about massalian troops. So they would need to make up some stuff and they did not want to do that.
>>
RTR:IS is in a pretty sweet spot right now. Very comfy to play. Very stable (for me). I'm having a blast as the Bosporans. I love factions that give mix-match rosters. Bosporons have a good heavy Hellenistic infantry core with access to mid-tier nomadic cavalry and archers. Your nomad stuff ain't shit to your Scythian neighbors, so beware of relying on them too much.

Your dudes look bad because there's this big unbroken brown patch. Give them a big cool belt or something to wear around their middle.
I never checked this myself but look up if there's any design help for drawing superheroes. Your problem looks like it's that they come off as cartoony/plasticky. Bright, unusual colors for their clothes plus they're shiny because of the jerkin.

Also the chainmail just makes it look like they're partly untextured. Give them high boots, or make the chainlinks more obvious, or add some leather straps or swap them out entirely for landsneckt pants
>>
>>902506
Also they look a lot goofier without hats, so if it's possible I'd say give them a second hat for variety and increase their chances of having a hat overall.

a turn took less than 10 seconds with all those factions. its essentially a vanilla+ mod. rome is fucking saved, total war is saved. this is all anyone has ever wanted, rome but modding limits removed. this year is going to be so great, all the mods in development, all the ports that will be released. so for the roman era mods, we have

>RIS, essentially historical autism
so mods for every person.

It runs as well as vanilla Rremaster if your unit size is large or lower, it tanks considerably on ultra and extreme.
I have a more than sufficiently strong computer to run this game on the highest possible settings at 1080p and I still get massive frame drops if my unit size is higher than large, what's strange is that there's no frame rate difference between ultra and extreme unit sizes for me. Their "enchanced" graphics pack also looks like shit, especially on the campaign map, they should really make that optional.

It's because there are no dedicated UI artists in relatively small modding teams. When developing an application or mod for that matter UI is always the least priority. You first make all features' UI useful and the usefulness of existing UI often prevents you from changing the UI until a lot of negative feedback. But more likely is that good UI is so difficult to create, only a few people can do it.
>>
>>913514
UI assets are always the worst parts of these mods. They get artists who can do amazing texture work for units but the new icons etc for buildings and whatnot look like absolute shit

Nevermind I figured it out, I zerged their elephants with my velites and then they sent slingers, their general, companion cav and another unit to chase the velites who were on skirmish mode.
I had the main bulk of my force in the forest behind, so the trees kind of reduced the cohesion of the pikemen and because their cav was busy I had no contest wiping out their ranged units and then cycle charging their unsupported pikes.

Thanks for reading my blogpost

RTR:IS dev diary

>Hello everyone!
>A new year and a new Dev Diary!

>All you Owl fans out there are in for a treat, today's diary is all about Athens!
>Athens, once the city of light, the birthplace of democracy, is now a mere shadow of its former self. Reduced to no more than its namesake city and under constant Antigonid threat, Athens may now be forced into an unholy alliance with its former arch-rival Sparta.

>Surrounded by enemies, whether they be greedy Hellenistic Dynasts or rival city states and leagues, Athens finds itself in a precarious position. Will you change the legendary city state's fortune? Will the Athenians once more control the seas, Greece and more?

>Athens will ofc have some unique units and with those comes some great unit descriptions. Here is one that you can expect to play with in the 0.4.0 update:

>"Athenian Marines or Epibatai were never numerous, but they are trained to fight with every possible weapon in every kind of situation. These men of the Hoplite class serve aboard Athenian warships, but can also be used for landing operations or to defend your coasts and harbours against the enemy. Protected by reinforced Linothorakes, a round Aspis shield and Attic helmets produced in the Kerameikos, they use their curved Kopis swords to hack at the enemy at close quarters, the usual way of fighting on the board of a triere. Their shield portrays a dolphin jumping over a trident against a background that resembles a sun disc lighting up the open sea. Such devotions were supposed to appease the sea god Poseidon, whom the Athenians had rejected in his competition with Athena."

That would be interesting to see how a Med 2 Remaster would play out. The big appeal of for many modders moving from Rome to Med 2 was the better modding capabilities. However, since both Remasters would have near identical modding capabilities, it would be interesting to see how that plays out.

No, anon, that's a mobile port confirmed. A PC remaster would be a bad idea considering that Rome's remaster flopped hard and the very same target audience that might otherwise buy a Med 2 remaster would immediately assume it was shit and not even bother with it.
>>
>>920569
How did Rome's remaster flop hard?
>>
>>920584
Not him but review wise it flopped but its numbers are pretty good for what I assume was a cheap deal with feral to remaster it. Considering how they shaped up the remaster AND that med 2 is an even bigger market than rome was, itd be a no brainer for CA to greenlight a remaster.

>>920584
Less players than the original
>>
>>920569
Rome would always have been a hard sell as a remaster. It's much less loved than Med2. The UI also didn't help any.

I don't know how many copies they expected to sell but if it was more than 50,000 or so it was pretty retarded of them. A medieval 2 remastered will no doubt push 100,000.
>>
>>920659
peak players are something like 10% of total sales, generally speaking? either way, its definitely sold more than 50,000 copies.
>>
>>920590
>its numbers are pretty good
less players than the original and not even in the top ten currently played tw games lol
med 2 remaster would be a waste of money and people will hate it too
>>
>>920660
If it went up to 100,000 then by any reasonable metric it's a success. Unless CA are legitimately retarded (real possibility) they weren't expecting to ship out a million copies or whatever.

And in any case the deal they made with Feral may include remastering the two games no matter what happens.
>>
>>920190
Just to be clear, there is extremely little chance of me not being able to pay my portion of the pot.
>>
i'm personally hoping that the rtw and m2tw remasters share the same engine so that all the m2 features can be implemented in rtw mods and vice versa
>>
>>920885
i hope that m2twr will be released as update to rtwr + campaigns and assets from med as dlc.

I'm seeing a trend here, the single providence factions move their army to attack a settlement and another faction attack their settlement, instead of going back to defend and list the seige, the army continues the seige until their settlement is taken and they become a rebel faction. I think the mechanic that turns factions that loose their last providence into rebels needs to be changed so they become a horde and don't get eliminated until their armies are destroyed or are regicided. Melkor mentions in the video that that should apply to only barbarian factions but it should probably just be all of them
>>
>>925376
you mean the army becomes a rebel stack?
>>
>>925666
yes that is what I mean I would like to see them stay that faction rather than becoming rebels
