Nice, this game looks fun American conquest? I should try it
>>751012two games, the one with american civil war is american conquest: divided nations with the HDN multiplayer-only mod. the one with napoleonic wars is with the HEW mostly-multiplayer mod.the base game covers different epochs and has different gameplay.
>>751002Oh man if only CMO focused a bit more on ground warfare, I'd be playing the poop out of it.
>>751014>american conquest: divided nationsThis game actually exists? I cannot find it anywhere. It's not on steam, GOG and I can't find any torrent for it. What happened to this game?
>>751035it's abandonware at this point, and it's largely unfinished/broken in the vanilla. you can get all AC games and all their mods from herehttp://www.americanconquest.info/mod.html

>>752855Germany got fucked by starting in the jungle, so they were prime target for the invasion to secure the flow of spices. Soon after my galleys shipped the swordsmen, I hit medieval and switched to knights.
>>752858The war quickly wrapped up due to the double amount of cities on my side.
>>752864Attacked by the perfidious Chinese.
>>752871Buying AI into war.
>>752875I also bought the English against Chinese, and France brought in Japan. Although, AI on the other continent is pretty meaningless.
>>752882In the three-way war China folds like a paper tiger. Having allied units thrown into the grinder before you take the spoils is also very helpful.
>>752887Besides 3 cities fallen to France, and 1 to England, I got most of the Chinese territory. But in a twist of fate with the last captured city of Macao, China didn't cease to exist. Since there was no vacant land left, it meant they loaded their settler on a ship and sailed away.
>>752891A beautiful picture - a Russian submarine off the coastal city of Yokohama protected by samurai.
>>752893Downside of rapid industrialization is the massive pollution rendering terrain unusable.
>>752897In 1680 France launched a 3-pronged attack against me. A pretty bold move given their disadvantage in population and my mutual protection pact with England. From the southern tundra they captured Kharkov, seizing the only source of silk outside my territory, and besieged Astrakhan. From mainland Rheims they took Grozny, cutting off my German and Chinese holdings from each other.
>>752910Alliances and protection pacts brought everyone in the chaos of the world war. The only meaningful matchings, though, are me + England vs France and the Zulu vs Japan, since AI is pretty inept at the sea invasions.
>>752920With the 2 free techs from theory of evolution I further cemented by scientific edge.
>>752923The absolute madman with 0 (zero) cities demanded money from me for the mutual protection.
>>752924Meanwhile in the western continent India joined the war against the Zulu which led to their rapid collapse and the strengthening of Japan. It's always curious to see how AIs behave with no involvement of your own.
>>752927In just 3 more turns Shaka lost all of his mainland cities.
>>752931I cleaned up the French in the south and turned to their mainland. My goal was to deny France luxury resources to make unhappiness surge in their cities and make their economy bleed from the artists and spendings on entertainment.Artillery with 2-tile radius and Cossacks with 3 movement was particularly effective in denying the French furs.
>>752943Scorched earth implemented in the north.
>>75294713 turns later, assraped Joan agrees to pay a hefty sum for peace.
>>752964Unfortunately, the same turn France attacks England who I have a defensive pact with, so I'm at war again, and instantly take Avignon and Lyons.
>>7529738 turns later and my forces steamroll the French leaving them 2 cities. They are pretty worthless at this point, certainly not worth another 1300 gold you can squeeze out in tribute by signing a brutal peace treaty.
>>752994Nothing makes you love RNG more than a city in the middle of your territory deciding to join its native civilization.
>>753003My favourite way of raising cash is fleecing AI by making them pay for ridiculously useless alliances and embargoes.
>>753020In just 6 turns I eliminated England which proved to be rather detrimental. I put embargo vs England in the peace treaty with France, but since England is no more, this clause is rendered void, thus terminating the whole agreement. Yes this is retarded, but this is how diplomacy in Civ3 works. At this point I wanted to wrap it up, and finished the French, leaving only me, India and Japan.
>>753028Honorabru display on part of Tokugawa, but fighting destroyers with frigates is silly to say the least.
>>75303412 turns later I have almost amassed the invasion force of 20 bombers, 30 marines and 10 infantry units on 5 carriers and 5 transport ships.
>>753040Bombers soften up the enemy garrisons, marines clean up the surviving riflemen, and infantry reinforces city defenses.
>>753046Encirclement is rapidly progressing. Bombers completely cut off the enemy capital from trade network.
>>753051Even if Toku moved his capital, his sources of rubber, horses, saltpeter, coal, and dyes are cut off anyway. Aviation is incredibly powerful even before Conquests expansion which made it ridiculously OP.
>>753065The game is all but finished when I finally enter the modern age.
>>7530676 tiles on bombers isn't a particularly great range but boy it is great for AI abuse.

>>758411>>758413what mod is that?
>>751035Hey, I forgot to mention earlier, a few pro-tips and general info if you're gonna use the HDN mod.>the mod is made for multiplayer>it's the most advanced and polished mod the AC community has made, and makes the most use of the game's engine, and adds stuff like scenario editors that make formations with mixed uniforms possible, troops withdrawing to HQ and reforming there automatically, bullet projectiles that fly around the world, sometimes stray projectiles will hit people far from where fighting takes place, etc etc>it is entirely focused on the american civil war. The base game of AC:DN has 3 conflicts; american civil war, Texan-Mexican war, and a single battle for the 1812 war that is buggy and crashes, so keep that in mind if you will use the mod>the mod removes all AI, you can load all the scenarios in the mod, and play as a side, but your enemy will have no AI, you can attack their troops and they'll shoot back, rout, etc, but they will never move, since there's no AII use a cheat that allows me to control both sides to solve this, and to play in maps where there's no AI. Press enter (to open chat) and type "qwe" and enter, this will give you a 'godmode' ability like in the map editor, where you can open a window (pic related in top right) to place troops and objects like in editor, and switch between faction colours. This lets me switch between sides and command troops on both sides and pit them to fight eachother. Basically like playing chess against yourself.Hope this was helpful.

>>776405AC:FB is actually on steam. AC:DN isn't (it's abandonware). Also those webms aren't just the base game, it's the game + multiplayer + it needs additional set up beyond this such as installing GR + downloading maps to play on. Some people just aren't arsed enough to go through all this. >>786480well, different folks different strokes i guess. those games are extremely primitive and barely covered any battles. SoW was the definitive refining of the formula (although it was still rough around the edges, but if that formula of RTS got perfected it would be the perfect one for simulating wars of the epoch).

>>787245I know about TC2M's community maps and scenarios. I played with CMP 3.0 and 4.0. Still, even that didn't have MP unlike SoW (which I ironically never tried in MP). Never knew SM games had community content. Also, doubt either of these surpass the community content HDN & HEW have for AC. HDN alone has 180+ maps, HEW has over 300.
>>777268I'd wholly recommend Darthmod if there was a new-unit-less version. The unit variants it adds are neat, but just a basic barracks clogs up the recruit screen so badly
>>787254Yeah probably not that many. Much was lost in time from a game 20 years old. But, if you search Greatest Battles Page you'll find the games and mods available for download. Also fun fact I tested SOW during development with Norb, in person, actually at the Gettysburg battlefield. We hiked the battlefield with the dev team then went to a hotel conference room to play the first (?) ever SOW MP battle. Fun times.
>>787721damn, that's very cool. I guess you're probably familiar with Garnier, as well? he helped Norb develop SoW IIRC and made a bunch of scenarios for it. He was the HDN mod maker in our community.
>>788414Yes definitely. I didn't know he was involved in HDN but it makes sense. The sad thing is that these guys are getting older. I hope the younger generations step up. My life is too busy to even play games right now, much less do things with the community. Hopefully one day I can get back into it.
>>786468how was the isthmus stalemate solved in the end? did any of the amphibious landings work?
>>784278Yeah man similar experience here, that shit was totally pagan lol
>>788727So I was controlling the troops but /vst/ was giving me strategic orders. I don't think amphibious landings were seriously considered because we (purple) were being pressed so hard. We started out by cutting off and encircling the big enemy push in the south. Once that pocket was reduced we pushed forward on the southern coastal road until stopped. Then there was a debate on what to do (attack in the north, do a paratrooper landing behind enemy lines, try to cut off the enemy in the southern swamp). We ended up encircling the enemy in the southern swamp but it was difficult and took time to reduce the pocket because of the terrain. After that, the enemy had taken such major losses that we were able to fairly easily break through their southern and northern ends of the line and move up the coastal roads, fending off counterattacks. By that point our steamroller had all the momentum and we surged forward, crushing everything.
