Super Robot Wars/Taisen; the OG games are the best ones of newfags unless you really love, and have actually watched alot of old mecha anime beyond gundum wing.
Want some jap Indie jank on PC? Lost Technology; barely translated due to budget restraints, but still fully playable.
Spectral Force Genesys; Casual Risk "grand strategy" + rock papers sissors combat. Features a really easily manipulated resource market. All on the DS.
Never played it, but it is a hentai strategy game; Eiyu*Senki. You get the H-patch at their site.
Subverse might be good, dunno.

If you are bored out of your mind, and want to waste money to play with wyfuus; Girls' civilization

Otherwise there are a bunch of turn based srpgs, just start looking for SNES to PS1 era SRPGs, as there were alot of good japanese srpgs back then.

The only serious take on war in the media is gundam and redeyes, which uses power armor instead of mobile suits and has MGS action hero character anyway, so not that exciting as far as strategy and tactics go. Strategic overviews of the past wars at the end of the volumes were kino though.

I used to follow VenusBlood series for the art and H scenes, than I got in a thread about one of the later titles and instead of talk about tentacles and impregnation there was people discussing the logistics needed in the game to pull off naval invasions. Too bad they were never translated, would have been interesting enough. Too few games have both decent H and gameplay.

I played one version years ago and the only person who got fucked in the story, as far as I got, was the loli Hime that you meet at the start of the game. Does that change? I really wanted to fuck Seimei and Kublai Khan.

Koihime and Sengoku are good choices, and I'd say Kichikuou Rance is even better. Sakura Taisen is too old and requires emulation, and I think the new one lacks content for anyone other than Sakura.

Is Library of Ruina worth playing for waifus? Is there romance in that?

One of his personality traits / potenials is that he likes to diddle his gun and clean it well, so the "gun maintenance" shit triggers every single turn with him makes him go "Yessir!".

In the squad story he is in he also rejects thots that are less beautiful than his gun and only speaks in "Sir, Yes/No Sir!" whilst still having a VA good enough to be able to deliever a believable autismo personality with those lines. Fucking love the guy, never complains and always happy to do whatever orders I give him without a shread of hesistation.

>>671102
Thunderbolt series was pretty mature and gritty
>>
are any of those kantai or other gacha games any good or interesting?
>>
>>671354
Thunderbolt was teenager's idea of maturity at best.
War in the Pocket is about as close to a mature portrayal of Gundam as you can get. The kid acts like a kid, the conflict is without fanfare. Bad stuff happens, but it only affects people who know while others continue on with their lives as if nothing happened. Combatants on both sides are normal humans, they fight because of their ideas and mistaken assumptions. They aren't psychos, they don't win everything because they're the protagonists and they would absolutely run if they didn't think it would hurt people they care about.

Thunderbolt is beautifully animated and a very enjoyable ride, but it's not really mature in any sense of the word besides some imagined TV rating board that it never had to go through as an OVA.
>>
>>671972

Kantai Collection has a sort of "grand strategy" thing going on with the resource management which makes it interesting, there can be a lot of depth during the events where you have to manage a limited amount of ships properly too.

Gacha games all suffer from the same problems. Doesn't matter if it's KC, AL, GF, AK, FEH, etc.

They rope you in with interesting gameplay and make the daily grind a part of your routine. Few weeks later you realize the skill ceiling is very low, what actually matters is party composition and raw stats. After 3-4 weeks the content starts to dry out and you're only doing dailies on auto mode now while waiting for the next grindy event, but you're too invested to quit.

That is why they have a containment board.

I'd rather see a sequel set in some kind of Cold War or an aerial warfare spin-off. You could even add stuff like armored zeppelins and aerial fortresses because of ragnite.
Even a proper VC2 reboot would be fine, as long as they fix the retarded story, expand on the world building and make the rebels feel like a real threat
>>
>>665383
The music in these games is pretty nice too, starting from VB Gaia iirc. Too bad the company is struggling. There's a VB frontier translation I think, but that game isnt interesting beyond team building from a gameplay perspective. The battles are automatic much like es2 if anyone's wondering.

Eiyuu Senki is fun. It's got a good set of base mechanics (Rock-paper-scissors on a grid) under it, but unfortunately much easier than Rance, because H. The big gamechanger is that you go pretty much unpunished for not going on the offensive and raking in cash, since there's no time limits as in Rance. The artist isn't very good, either.

But it's still quite fun and has a lot of content and voice work to it. Worth a play.

Even though it contains some of the chronologically earliest material, 5 is intended to be a capstone for those who have played the rest of the franchise. I recommend starting the series from 1 (the most primitive, all up hill from there), 2 (the PS1 entries are often considered the high water mark), or 4 (closest to "modern" graphics with upscaled emulation).

It wasn’t to the level I wanted it, but VC4 I felt took their war more seriously in most aspects. The early levels are odd though I’ll admit. That weird mission where you basically have a dick measuring contest with big titty red head commander felt out of place.
>>
>>716637
If you want VC that's more serious you should play 3.
can't exactly have a light hearted war when you're in an expendable penal battalion.

>>

yeah. the game is just bland and its tedious to keep up with the RNG and the math (grueling AA system) associated with it. most of the playerbase is gone anyway, it hyped around 2013-15 until FGO fucked them over and azur lane stole the spotlight with their live2d cunny.
>>
and not to mentioned the site keeps getting DDoSed so they even blocked of ww players from playing.
>>
>>717650
There's not enough content to keep it interesting. I can deal with the bullshit, math and fleet comp planning but having to repeat the same maps and paths over and over until an event happens is just boring.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 doesn't have a lot of waifus by default, and those that are included aren't anime waifus, but you can create your own offiers with custom portraits and create your own kingdom of cute anime waifus.
>>
>>713051
Thanks for recommending this its actually so fun. Just beat my first campaign with the generic good guy knights after a few failed attempts with the elves. Spamming cavalry and surrounding the enemies on open plains is fun as fuck.
>>
>>725985
Elves should take out Reinald asap. It gets you access to fire mages that are essential to fighting the lizards.
>>
>>726071
yeah doesn't seem like the archers do anything to their melee units. I made the mistake of losing a few small skirmishes to them without retreating immediately and they all got enough levels to the point where I couldn't even dent them anymore
>>
>>725985
Was their story interesting at all? HOw the fuck do you go aginst the gun guys or the fucking singing frogs?
>>
>>726934
nah, the story for the knights was pretty generic. Against Musket, I had a bunch of stacks of knights training on the plains to the north of the knight's capital and baited the AI towards the knights while I had a few stacks flank to the left and right to go for the musketmen. I also had a joint war with Lion so I let them tank all the mercs whenever I could while I cleaned up. The frogs were the last faction left so I could pretty much steam roll them with all the big AOE leader skills I had at my disposal. The doctor from Electris and the pirate lady the knights start with are broken as hell.
>>
>>726962
Nothing interesting at all story wise?
The dragon guys had a cool one about the origin of the dragons, which were scifi-y.
>>
>>726970
the most memorable parts were when the knights used gender equality as the excuse to plan a coup against the dwarves and the ending where the elves and the lizardmen teamed up 50 years after the game ends to start another war cause the humans are fucking up the environment

You have to read it since some seemingly irrelevant things become relevant later on. It isnt that long and it helps to get attached to the characters, plus character development over the games. Ill just recommend you to skip the lacrosse arc. Really, skip it. Nothing of value there.

Eiyuu senki is a lot more vanilla. Painfully vanilla at times.

Honestly Sengoku Rance isn't that crazy strategic it just has a few curveballs and time limits that keep new players on their toes before they know how to abuse certain characters and passives that trivialize even the hardest mode.
And yeah Rance is a hard character to sell. I like it as a chance to play "evil" anti-hero characters for a change, but not everyone is into that. The sex scenes are pretty squick, I just skip through them and play the games for the plot, unironically.

Eiyuu Senki difficutly is very much the "ramp up enemy health values" type though, with the expectation that you're using NG+ stuff for higher difficulties. It's big problem, as the other anon mentioned, is that AI is completely hamstrung in it's ability to actually send strong attacking forces, so you essentially never lose ground once you take it. It's primarily a puzzle game in that regard, figuring out the puzzle of how to complete the game in as few turns as possible, not because the enemy is ever actually threatening.
>>
>>713051

Sengoku Rance is a legitimately good game and worth a shot. It's got gameplay that seems simple on a surface level but is shockingly deep when you start looking at more advanced stuff. The presentation is great, the music and graphics are both very charming.

The game play is fairly simple though, and you'll probably need a guide to really get going.

Little girl inherits an decaying empire.
She is quite unlucky since her close political aides are
>fat gay rapist
>child grooming bishop
>lazy knight
The twist is that if you win as Empire, you just help the 2 first aides to destroy the monarchy, establish a corrupt democracy, execute the knight, and let the bishop have his way with her.
If you get beaten in specific way, the knight captures the loli and helps both grow as a person, while supporting the not-french idealists to win.
