Does EA still hold the rights for Dune? It would make sense to cash in on the upcoming movie. Dune 2 is one of the first games I remember playing, good times...
>>657080They don't, Brian doesn't want his father's writings tarnished by what he considered as crappy fanfics. Hence, no Dune 2/2000 remaster despite 2000 sharing the same engine as C&C.

Ive reinstalled generals and used genpatcher and gentools. But I cant move the camera by moving the mouse to the sides of the screen. I can only press right mouse button or use arrow keys to move the camera. Anybody know how I can fix this?Everything I can find on google are just people saying they fixed it by using one monitor instead of two or just use right mouse button or arrow keys.
>>660166Okay I fixed it by not playing in windowed mode... Guess I gotta avoid alt tabbing since that causes crashes
>>660007Well it’s a franchise that’s been dead for almost a decade now. C&C really needs a new game.

>>657001this game is the shit
>>657001I remember there was a trailer for this game on the RA2 disc. I remember soem guy gets sucked into his tv screen. What's this game even about?
A Red Alert 2 remaster is the only way C&C could make money right now and it'll be a huge mistake if EA didn't greenlit it already
Given the upcoming movie, I wouldn't expect anything less than Dune as a tie-in cash-grab.
RA4 with both Yuri and Japs as returning factions. And then the expansion pack adds Fascist Italy.
>>662600They don't have the license any more and Brian Herbert doesn't like the Dune games so much that he doesn't even want the old ones re-released ever again.
>>662614Herbert licensed the Dune video-game license to Funcom, who have been brought out by Tencent. There is nothing that stops Tencent sub-licensing a dune RTS to EA through that license. There's been rumours of a Tencent takeover of EA in the works. Using the license as a test-bed for working directly with EA would be in their favour prior to investing heavily.

>>656249look at the plot and factions of C&C generals, then look at when it was released, now look at the world you currently live in. Should be able to put 2 and 2 together.
>>662365>I remember soem guy gets sucked into his tv screen. The TV is actually sucked along with him into another thing.>What's this game even about? It is a masterfully crafted game with three very linear SP campaigns. There are three classes and they play fairly differently, and even have a number of campaign levels (or maps, or I guess you can call them missions) unique to that class. Even the maps that are common, "milestone" ones in each of the campaigns, are slightly different for each class.I can post a tl;dr that describes core game mechanics but I would recommend experiencing everything without what I consider minor spoilers. Overall I agree that it is very different from Diablo past the superficial similarities.

>>662508>>663727Wouldnt they just combine the two like TD/RA1?
>>665238Doubt it. RA1 and TD share a good amount of assets so while remaking one you’re kinda remaking the other anyway. RA2 and TS don’t share any assets at all.
>>664949Given that TB was a HUGE CnC fan and was pretty buddy-buddy with Westwood/Petroglyph devs, I am sure this is deliberate.
>>665276I feel like they would remake both and put them in the same package like the remaster but then just double the price.
>>665300Each of the 2nd gen C&C games has more content than the first two combined and it's probably easier to fuck up their remastering process. Petroglyph guys still from WW didn't even work on RA2. I wouldn't count on another double package.
>>665339If they go for separate releases I wouldn't be surprised if RA2 was the first one to get the release, with its higher popularity and still active playerbase.

That said, I would still rather Westcucked nations get their heads out of their asses for a single moment and stop selling all their fucking properties and companies to CCP.

What's your ideal level of naval gameplay in a Red Alert game? I think if they ever make RA4, I'd like it to be a halfway point between RA2 and RA3. 2 was nicely balanced, but I think could've used a couple more amphibious units aside from the transport, robot tanks, tanya , etc. RA3 was really bold in pushing naval and for the most part I liked it, but I felt it pushed it a bit too far.
>>675819Yeah I agree something in between RA2 and RA3. For amphibious units I'd prefer if it were land units that could also cross water rather than RA3's ships than go on land.
>>675819I'd like the naval units of each factions to be somewhat symmetrical. All of them having submarines, battlecruisers, aircraft carriers, etc. Also with the ability to choose their secondary loadouts exclusive to each factions, so you can specialize each ships with prism cannon, camouflage, tesla coil, infantry bunker and so on.
>>675819I have never enjoyed naval in any RA game and it's part of the reason I prefer the tiberium games.
>>675877Another major reason being harvester dumping not being instant in tiberian games, forcing you to continue producing refineries to keep income flowing at a steady rate.
What is the appeal of Twisted Insurrection? The action is so slow that even your commands have a 1 second delay >>675819Red Alert 3 but with amphibious transports
>>676097>Red Alert 3 but with amphibious transportsYou mean amphibius transports for infantry and vehicle for all factions?
>>667249even weirder, the map shows north and south korea as separate countries, but both are US aligned?
>>676145Red Alert 3 naval combat that includes the amphibious transports from Red Alert 2
Anyone else prefer RA1 to 2 despite it being a glorified TD mod?
>>676097I didn't like the voxel art of TI, the new units, or the mission design which got tedious to me even after playing Covert Operations. The units didn't feel particularly slow though, C&C always punished click spam.

>>655242IIRC the Americans were 100% the aggressors in BF2 and just looking for dat oil. It was made during the "muh oil Bush bad" era.
>>676190I like RA1 for the WW2+Cold War aesthetic. RA2 being a newer game wins in terms of environments though. RA1 gets a bit dull with its samey forests or snow. Granted it's an older game.
>>676190I like the tone of RA1 more. The Allied campaign in particular is criminally underappreciated.
>>676531There was a plot in BF2? I only remember either fighting the Chinks over Wake Island endlessly or that one SAS vs Spetznas map from the expansion. That map was pretty damn sweet.
Did Kane's Wrath's campaign also get buttfucked by balance patches like base C&C3?
>>676923He posted those two pics last night and said he would sort through his stuff and post more later.
>>676919No, it's a standalone game. The reason why it didn't get patched to hell is because it was outsourced to a third party company. Poorly funded too, judging by the effortless campaign map.
>>676982greg black not being involved only makes it better
>>676982A third party RTS developer? Who?
>>677027BreakAway Games, the same company who made the expansion for BfME 2.
If a new C&C were to ever be made, they need to bring back troops coming out of destroyed buildings/planes/tanks and other little flavor stuff instead of the same banal low effort appeals to esports. I remember Generals 2 wasn't going to even have tank crushing even before all the f2p shit they wanted to force into the game.
>>677224This. The "flavour" of an RTS is so critical to its appeal. A lot of the early and mid C&C's had a ton of neat little tricks that you could pull off, or unneeded but amusing additions that the devs put in, just to flesh things out and give it more flavour. Like how in Tib Sun, blue tib is explosive and you can use harvesters as makeshift demolition trucks, or how in RA2 you can use Crazy Ivans on your own terrorists and fit them in a flak track, etc. Like a lot of this stuff is just plain stupid fun; it doesn't need to be balanced (as long as it's not horribly broken). As much as I love StarCraft Brood War (and it still is in my top 5 RTS of all time), that game really did start the esports faggotry that dominated much of RTS in the late 2000s and throughout the 2010s. Brood War already sold over a million copies within the first couple years, and that had *nothing* to do with esports or large organised competitions. Because StarCraft was already a hit before that. People liked the aesthetics, the graphics are nice, the story is engaging; it's only like a couple years later that esports became a thing. So please, devs and publishers, don't go chasing that lucrative "esports" money. Just make a fun game, something you made with passion, insert dumb yet cool interactions, add flavour.
>>677359I think it's funny how all the things C&C got maligned for not having by the early 2000s like 5 resource types, tons of abilities for every unit, builder units ended up being evolutionary dead ends for the genre as everyone now thinks RTS games are too complicated and would rather just play ASSFAGGOTS.

>>677224There was no crushing because the Frostbite engine didn't have that implemented. They got it working the day the game was cancelled.
>>676531>>676877There's some vague lore in the mission descriptions that implies the war is at least partly over resources, but nowhere near enough to say who started it.
Did the RA2 devs ever give a reason as to why they removed suppression from infantry?
>>677938Or to be more specific, the prone behavior infantry used to have where they would receive half damage, but move at half speed which you could order your troops to stand up from.

>>672461It makes sense when you consider it's descendant of TD's egg suit.
>>683279Been ages since I last replayed the early C&Cs, is there any reason why Mussolini can't exist in the (current) C&C timeline?
>>683340I mean, depending on the timescale this theoretical RA game with Yuri and Imperial Japan in it is (RA2 takes place in 1972), he'd be in his late 80s to early 90s. Though, I guess you could make a story about a geriatric Duce finally stepping down to have some kind of zany successor who tries too hard to emulate him.
>>683340He'd be dead of old age seeing how RA2 takes place in the 1970s.
>>683340He may have died during RA1 when the Soviets overran Italy.
>>683293Which RTS mod would be the closest to Renegade's tech for both sides?
>>683372A TD mod which swaps the infantery for TS soldiers.
>>683362The Soviets never overran the entirety of Italy in RA1 though. That map's from RA2's installer and doesn't match up with any of the stages of the previous Allied campaign. It doesn't even get their insignia right.
I hope you guys are aware there was zero attempt at maintaining any consistency between RA1 and RA2 and RA2 was done by different developers.
>>683575That doesn't make RA2 any less fun or anything.Though speaking of which how do you upscale TS/RA2 to look decent on modern resolutions? Tried the freeware download for TS recently and it looks crustier than a fatberg.

>>683362>>683572Just checked, this is the greatest extent of the Soviet advance in RA1. As you can see they have a foothold in northern Italy, but it's gone by the next mission.

If they do a TS remaster they should do a mix of balance between Firestorm and TS. I want to have nonshit arty and nonshit attack cycles at the same time while also being able to sell buildings and get infantry.
>>684307>being able to sell buildings and get infantry. Why would anyone want that? If you have spare infantry in your structures why won't they come out and do some scouting or at least fire at attackers?
>>684316Because it's a C&C staple whose removal took out the flavor of the game. It's even better in RA1 where shot down planes have riflemen parachute down.

Hey friends. I picked up Red Alert 3 on sale and having never played a C&C game before I found it to be pretty fun. I'm interested in C&C Remastered, is it good?
>>684379Yes, although keep in mind that the games included are very different from most modern RTS by virtue of being made in the mid-90s. If you're expecting gameplay and fairness on a level similar to RA3 you can throw that right out the window.

Red Alert 1 is a Masterpiece.
>>687401Both RA2 campaigns are fairly trivial when compared to what came before and after. YR ups the difficulty slightly, but it's still mostly a walk in the park if you know what you're doing. The only remotely challenging missions are Red Revolution and the one where you blow up Yuri's castle.

christ it is annoying how little HP everything has in red alert 2
>>689270Yeah that sounds like a good idea, NOD AT infantry using power in numbers while GDI uses advanced rockets, LEGION using those spider like cyborgs that fire missiles at the sky, and black hand using STW armor but more advanced ATGM.

It actually gave me hope that EA knows what they are doing. And then RA3 came along.
>>689850EA tried to market it as the next best thing in e-sport since Starcraft, at the expense of single player experience. All three factions being too symmetrical and removing Tiberian lifeform exemplify this. When that didn't pan out, they doubled down with retardation by shitting out C&C4, ruining whatever plot with Scrin that TW tried to build.

What could have been:https://youtu.be/S2qqNlyea3w
>>692091This is for multiplayer:https://cncnet.org/red-alert-2It patches and fixes RA2 and Yuri's Revenge so you can play them, I'd prefer if they had the campaigns be accessible through the client but there's a trick to getting them to work: >1. Enable the button. Find file called MainMenu.ini in Resources or one of the theme directories in it and change btnNewCampaign Visible key to value 1 / true. Potentially have to tweak Size/Location as well as Location of other buttons to make it fit nicely.>2. Give client a list of campaigns. It reads two INI files for this, INI\Battle.ini and another which is configurable from ClientDefinitions.ini (BattleFSFilename), defaults to BattleFS.ini, also read from INI subfolder. Probably not present by default in CnCNet YR distribution. The structure is identical to battle(md).ini used by the game, but it also reads few different / extra keys. Probably easier to just take a look at mods like MO or RR to get an idea of how it works. No idea if anyone's created one for YR missions or anything. Oh yeah, a little bit less intuitive thing is that you will have to set CopyMissionsToSpawnmapINI in ClientDefinitions.ini -> Settings to false/no"Not tried this for myself but the orginal campaigns are available in mods like Red Resurrection and Flipped Missions so it's possible. Now you can probably get RA2 and Yuri's Revenge through archive.org but I've not gone hunting for it because I have the First Decade so I don't know any safe sites to grab them.
>>692106If Petroglyph makes it, I'm interested. The biggest thing holding them back is the shitty settings they have to use for their RTS games.

Is there even any legit strategy in first game other than sending tons of APCs to enemy base to capture and sell everything? I find it impossible to create any successful attack squads. I feel like even random enemy infantryman is some kind of rambo that can destroy my tanks with pistol. And the barracks with dozens of soldiers in front are some kind of fortresses.
>>694043Depends on what faction you're playing. As Nod, I like to go for rocket infantry, recon bikes, and light tanks. Once you get flame tanks, you can absolutely devastate buildings and infantry and use stealth tanks to scout out enemy bases.
>>694061I've been playing the GDI campaign. Anything I use dies so fast and I can't outproduce the AI. Only way to win is either use engineers or get more resources and wait for AI to run out of theirs.
>>694072GDI campaign is easier, use grenadiers early on, guard towers at key positions, and med tanks mostly. Can't give specific tips because I don't remember having any problems.
>>694079Is there some special tactic how to use grenadiers? Infantry kill them, flamers kill them, recons kill them, tanks ride over them while their throw range is worse than amputees. And they kill themselves with their own grenades anyway.
>>694082just don't keep them clumped up, rocket infantry are better despite doing less damage because they have way more range and with flamethrowers you can put two in guard mode to defend a position and they'll fuck up any incoming infantry
>>694072Nothing wrong with using engineers.
>>693921You don't need the GDI MCV to win the mission. You can leave it where it spawns. Why are people so averse to experimenting and trying to think outside the box?

>>695410He's British, they spell things a little differently.
>>695527I don't. I've played both the Westwood and Blizz-style of RTS since I was a kid and have loved almost all of them. Loved StarCraft, loved C&C. The only one thing that I think StarCraft has caused (and this isn't even StarCraft's fault) is that the success of Brood War's esports scene has caused most RTS devs in the late-2000s and early-2010s to chase that lucrative esports money, causing a markedly different approach to RTS development in concepts like unit balance, what parts of a game to prioritise, what an RTS should be, etc. Even so, like I said, it's not SC's fault but rather execs and suits who only see the esports money but understand little of what made SC blow up as a competitive game.

Why do people praise tib sun so much? What do the moderately sized empty maps do for people?
>>697642This is not even bait, this is just a pile of shit with a hook on top of it.
>>654193What's the point if it's an EA game
>>697687It might be a Petroglyph game.
>>697642Goddamn look at the SOUL. Reminds me of the OG Starcraft maps, the ones not made to cater to MP.
>>697661Can you retort without "VGH SOVL" like >>697795
>>697849No, go be a faggot somewhere else.
>>697849I already did. Feel free to jump off a cliff any time.
>>697642>What do the moderately sized empty maps do for people? In what sense is it empty? It's filled with trees, rocks, mountains, a lake, traintracks, bridges and tunnels. There are no cities but it's meant to be a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
>>697861It's also a defense mission with limited supplies so you are never meant to stray from the alien ship. Almost like his post is bait or something...
>>697861Even then there ARE fairly big cities in the game too
>>697861Apart from the tunnels, you will find all of these features in CNC/RA1 Here is a late game mission with all of these features and 1 more item of interest Not featured 2 more lakes and a larger Nod base
>>697885Another nobase start that requires you to sneak around that outpost and attack a currently invisible base out of of the screenshot. More disingenuous shitposts from a mentally ill man.
>>697887>n-no, d-don't criticize my holy cow overhyped game >y-you must be mentally ill off yourself brainlet
>>697861The simple existence of terrain deformation mechanics make it less empty than 90% of AAA game maps
>>697899>those abandoned C&C1 bases God I loved those abandoned bases and vehicles in TS and TW.
>>697885RA1's maps are entirely flat except for the occasional cliff which functions exactly like walls with no perspective differences between them, this is not up for debate. and all that "empty space" is where your BASE is supposed to go. Keep being disingenuous though, just proves you're a retard grabbing screenshots off the wiki for a game you apparently never played.
>>697947And comparing TS to RA1 and TD is not a negative. Their simple terrain and silhouette sprites has made them age very gracefully but the terrain is undoubtedly flat.
RA1 was ugly when it released and it's ugly today
>>697958As opposed to the other RTS games of the time? The only contemporary contender in visuals is WC2 and I'll take RA1's pixel art any day of the week over RA2's cartoony over the top look.
>>697849>VGH SOVLGet the fuck out of here /pol/nigger.
I feel incredibly blessed that both the GDI and Nod insignia were chosen as the main design motif when designing the logo of /vst/'s official football team.
>>697899I love both Nod's and GDI's final mission in Tib Sun. Top comfy. Top fun.
Anyone else tried the reworked Allied campaign for RA2?It seems pretty good.http://zombapro.ppmsite.com/index.php?page=Missions
>>697642It's a good game. But the development was pretty rushed, and they didn't manage to get garrisoning work as intended until RA2.
>>654193Could be Dune to milk the movie. There are already 3 Dune Board games, one remake from 1979, one new from 2020 which was a hit, and one in production.
>>698765It's difficult when it comes to the Dune games. They don't have the license any more and Frank Herbert's son doesn't like the video games. He also didn't want them released on GOG when they contacted him.
>>698751It wasn't ever meant to have garrisoning and that's a good thing.
>>698905Imagine trying to push through even a small settlement without artillery. 10 disk throwers in each building with bonus to range and ROF.
>>699019C&C3 did garrisons better than RA2 anyways.
>>699073No, 24 militants and 3 confessors should not take the same amount of space as 3 engineers.
>>698905The thing about garrisoning is something mentioned a C&C video by gvmers. Maybe it wasn't something they really consider adding but TS development was actually quite problematic.https://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/131595/postmortem_westwood_studios_.php?page=3
>>699294I've already read that postmortem and I've never seen a developer mention garrisoning as a major feature that was cut, instead features like fire spreading and destroying trees are mentioned at cut content.
>>699307I'm just saying that it was something I heard off a yt video, like something that just popped up in the middle of development and never given any serious thought.
>>694043I tend to avoid building infantry when i can and go full med tank and base defence spam until mammoth tank. Once those are available I go for those asap cause they can take a beating and repair themselves. I struggled more with the nod campaign but obelisks protect you from outright faillure long enough until you figure something out. Usually that involves abusing artillery. It outranges base defences if those are behind a wall or a rock.
>>699666Forgot to add that I just use that forced move command to run over infantry.
>>693352Why cap SE base? I think you can make air units too if you cap the NE base.
>>699677Income. Besides it's really easy once you take down the only real ground threat there, a few stealth tanks.
Just played through Uprising for the first time, why did nobody tell me about how kino it is?>That menu theme>Kirovs replaced by Harbingers because the Allies won>Missions are still reasonably challenging despite giving you access to OP super units>The post-war theme with you playing as/trying to resist an occupation force>Better yet, the story actually tries to take itself more seriously this time >Yuriko's campaign is peak fun desu I hope that if the C&C revival goes beyond remasters somebody at EA will realize they have a very solid foundation for RA4 here.
>>701628https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC0WSu-bqBcFuck yeah, GitS-esque menu theme is top banger. It's an underrated expansion all around, had some fun beating Commander Challenge. Shame they didn't give Yuriko any characterization despite getting her own campaign. RA4 could do with FutureTech being new faction bringing in Einstein techs from RA2, though Japan has that high tech faction slot filled in.
>>701805Shut the hell up retard
>>701790>Shame they didn't give Yuriko any characterizationI'd say she was given more than most C&C personalities. Compare her to Yuri, whose entire character can be boiled down to >Speaks in a creepy voice and wants to take over the world for some reasonI would like to see more of her though, especially given the cliffhanger her story ends on. The way I'd do it would be a 3-4 mission secret campaign similar to the ones in RA and TD, unlocked after beating all the others because requiring you to shift-click a speaker probably wouldn't fly these days.
>>701821no, the only worthwhile things in that game are water effects and tim curry
>>701868There is also water content playing a large role which could have been a good thing, but they've instead went for "oh it's just a regular building except with air bags so it floats" kind of a deal so it's just okay.
>>701868Wrong. Reminder that RA3 does all of the following things objectively better than RA2:>Voice acting>Unit balance>AI & campaign difficulty>Dynamic soundtrackYou literally cannot dispute this without sounding like a complete retard.
So what was announced?
>>702948>Voice actingYou mean unit quotes? I can't recall any memorable one.
>>703142RA2 has some standouts like the Apocalypse Tank and Tanya, but as a whole it's VO work is inferior in both quantity in quality. RA3 units in general have a lot more personality, like the Allied vehicles being from different countries instead of flat American accents for pretty much everyone. Honestly I think one of the main reasons people remember the RA2 lines so well is because how few of them there are - 10-15 for most units compared to around 50 in RA3.
>>702948Dynamic soundtracks fucking suck in C&C. Jukebox all the way.
>>702948I'm not an RA2 fag, RA3 just sucks dick and was a big step down from C&C3.
>>699073>APC>Can fit whole squad of riflemen>Can't make room for one tubby engineer to ride along
>>703393Tiberiumfags have no business commenting on RA games.
>>703393Yes, the game where peak strategy is spamming tier 1 tanks with hordes of rocket/missile infantries regardless of faction. With economy gimped beyond belief and mammoth tank nerfed to oblivion.
>>703456Engineers carry a lot of equipment, how do you think they capture entire structures by themselves?
>>703849Don't they become one with it? i know saboteurs use explosives and infected USB and the SCRIN one uses weak mind control and its own body as a computer.
>>703707RA games have no business being present in C&C threads.
>>697642While I prefer RA2 and even the gameplay of Generals, Tib Sun is just oveflowing with atmosphere, kino and soul. In terms of C&C story telling it's the peak.
>>686034TIME IS RUNNING OUT
>>704238RAfafs are mostly SEAniggers and ruskies
>>705951Interesting. I knew lots of slavic and russian children were obsessed with RA2, Generals and HoMM3 about 10-15 years ago, but why SEA?
