>Looks like a formidable defensive structure >Easily folds to enemy fire What other units look way better than they actually are?
>>623959it would hold out better if everyone and their dog didn't play on the fastest game speed possible
>>623959That sums up pretty much every unit in Starcraft though.
>>624044came here to say that lol, they all look cool but are made of paper. At the same time, games like AoM take a decade to kill a single unit even vs an entire army.
>>624044>>624049Are you talking about SC2 or BW? Because in BW zealots feel next to invincible in the early game, they soak up a ridiculous amount of damage.
>all these retards ITT that shitpost about the game they clearly did not playthese little square badboys are practically invincible as long as you have a couple of SCVs on repair duty
>>623959>he thinks bunks in SC are badTry SC2 if you want to see really shitty bunkers.Marines standing in the open literally last longer than a fucking defensive buidling which supose to protect them.
>>624076> as long as the structure isnt alone it can do its jobalmost like its weak then?>>624052yeah sc2, colossus have incredible 350 ehp, what a colossal unit!
>>624095bro defiler is such a bad unit, it can't even kill anything on its own
>>623959Half of late game units for SC2:>ColossusMade of paper, spend it's time retreating because everything will kill it>TempestA gigantic pea-shooter with anemic movement and attack speed>UltraliskEnjoy getting stuck into your own units and never do anything except getting shot at.>Void rayLitteraly useless.
>>623959Literally worse than the unit it is an “upgrade” to
>>624104i've never actually gotten the Eliphas to upgrade to the Daemon Prince in my Dark Crusade playthroughs.
>>624107aren't you forced into it when you unlock all the necessary upgrades?
AoE 2 organ gun looks like it should shred infantry but it sucks so much ass, just like all multi-shot units in game.
>>624047Which game? Squishier in some than others.
>>624109yeah, there's one upgrade you have to get for base defenses i think? that i never had the patience to wait around to get
>>624118ra1 since he's q-moving the fuck out of the light tank
This was a lot harder to figure out than the usual shitty units thread. My nominee is the Nightbringer from Dawn of War if you look at it from a multiplayer perspective, despite the fact that it is literally an invincible unit since everyone will just run away and he can't catch them. He also kills masses of units quite slowly so he's only good against the brain dead AI which will let him wipe their relic unit in a 1v1. In Soulstorm there is no reason to ever use him instead of the Deciever because the latter gives you so many options.Bloodthirster suffers from similar issues, but at least he can fly around on the map and rape buildings in seconds. The big Tau chicken is also pretty bad since he's melee and can't fly but has obscene hp and damage to compensate.
Kisho ninjas from Shogun 2: FotS. I expected them to be elite melee warriors, but they struggle to rout even exposed artillery quickly. I've found unless you're hitting mobbed units in the flanks with grenades that they aren't very good :(
>>624103You do not play the game
>>624146I wouldn’t count the knarloc since it doesn’t actually LOOK all that great lol. Hard agree on nightbringer.
>>624225aw fuck I'm retarded
>>624112The organ gun is decent at critical mass, but you have to have a huge blob of them .
>>624109You're never forced to buy the upgrades, though you're probably going to unlock all of them. If you do buy it then you can never undo it. The best thing to do with Eliphas is to just ignore the last upgrade. IIRC there's a similar thing with Gorgutz where one of his wargear causes him to do friendly fire melee splash damage which hurts more than it helps.
>>624109No, the Daemon Prince transformation is an upgrade.
>>623959Great lore and setting, shit game.
>>623959at least in RA2 units in garrison gets damage, range and rof buff.
>>624545garrisons, especially in YR, ruin the game
>>623959Gothic Knights from Medieval 2 Total War, especially the foot variant. I heard there was a patch with some custom two handed animations to make them not useless, does anyone have it?
>>623959I mean, a lot of SC lore shows everyone is using INSANE weapons.
Is turtling good for RTS?
>>624624Yes it is. Turtles give up map control to buy themselves some time. In any decent RTS that means they're on a timer before their opponent outgrows them and breaks their defence, which makes turtling an actual choice.
>>624222Can we make this a banner ad?
>>624095>almost like its weak then?almost like you are a low-skill retardBut let me guess - you are a great player, it's just that gook-clickers/rushers/whoever else is not playing fair and what not. Totally not your fault and your non-existing skill.
>>624624Depends on the game. It's all over the spectrum, from "totally fucking useless" to "the winning strategy".
>>624683Something very similar is already claimed by /tg/, so you're about two years too late
>>624104I don't pick up the upgrade until the attack upon the final enemy stronghold. Like, I /want/ him to ascend but I also don't like it in battle even if only because the Daemon Prince form can't detect stealth. Feels pretty thematic to end it with ascension. Though I only did that once, never got that far into most campaigns.
>>624703No, I meant as a concept, for the genre as a whole. It's blatant that Starcraft absolutely wants nothing to do with turtling, and any defense can be broken or overwhelmed, and deters raiding at best.
>>624830>Starcraft absolutely wants nothing to do with turtlingdefiler and two lurkers on top of a ramp can defend against 200/200 terran army forever
>>624830It's one of many strategies, it's just the one that noobs tend to gravitate towards because it's fairly easy to do. Just throw down some defenses in a chokepoint and play simcity.Starcraft allows turtling and you see it even at the highest level of play. It's just that playing passively will not work forever.
>>624855[science vessel intensifies]
>>624076>>all these retards ITT that shitpost about the game they clearly did not play>these little square badboysThey are rectangular. 3x2.
>>624228>it's not a Dread Knight so it's zomg so fragile!!!1
>>624228Naga queens are strong as fuck and unicorns are also pretty solid. I would say crusaders. They look like tier 5 units instead of 3.
seeing their health bars go down so fast is pretty satisfying
>>624576Not sure, but stainless steel fixes them.
>>624576They're already fixed for Kingdoms. Now they just suck because their stats are low. I mean, regular dismounted knights have 13 attack, 21 defense. Dismounted Gothic knights have 14 attack, 14 defense. So yeah, no good. Giving them armor piercing attacks would help, heck, the mounted Gothic knights have armor piecing with their maces and still have 13 attack.
>>624830Turtling absolutely works but you need to take over half the map first, which is precisely what turtle players can't do due to being shit at the game.
>>624830>>624855>>625057one on of the recent seasons of gsl maru was backed into his quarter of the map by a zerg and was able to hold him off and trade efficiently until the zerg drained the resources in his part of the map and then counterattacked and won, one of the most kino games i've ever watched but it was memorable precisely because you don't see that very often.
>>624624Not when your game IS about map control, the enemy will have outposts and resources you cant take back without effort because you weren't taking free real estate early.
>>625000Iron golems also fit the bill - they’re only tier 3 but could easily fit as 5 or 6 considering that they are animated stone/metal. For tier 3 clay or glass or something might have been a better fit.
>>625000Regular Pegasi look well suited to tier 4 but silver Pegasi look like a tier 6 lol.
>>625176Yes, but only if you have access to equal or greater amount of resources as your opponent AND you can utilize your resources more efficiently. Prioritizing defensive unit/structure production is generally an inefficient use of resources, not considering cheese tactics like base crawling. Any resources in reserve are also wasted.
>>624047>used to think soviets are OP as a child>play years later as a manchild and notice how it's the oppositelol
>>624143>TD Mammoth actually uses the missile rack everytime it would have to rotate its turret over 180 degrees or if target is airborne>RA Mammoth only uses them vs aircraft and infantry when reloading the main gunsAm I remembering this correctly?
>>625276>TFW you instantly realize that theres zero reason to make Rangers once youre allowed to build LTs and APCs Did the OpenRA project tried to fix this in any way???
>>625066I think i watched that game. Maru played great but zerg was really just a-moving armies until his resources ran dry.
>>625420>4 shoots to kill infantry>dies in 3There was never a reason to build a ranger.
>>625420 Only if you use the default game settings with shroud enabled, since it has the longest vision among land vechicles - otherwise its a PoS even vs the flak truck (keep in mind the APC is relegated to Soviet side in ORA) - I wonder if allowing the carried RocketSoldier fire on the move a'la IFV would be OP compared to its current state...
>there will never be a starcraft with realistic rangesit hurts
>>630136>starcraft with realistic ranges>battlecruiser somewhere in the solar system wipes your whole army
>>630158>mousewheel up to the space layer to engage the battlecruisers
>>630160>Zerg have no space game>give Zerg space portals to engage battlecruisers
>>630199>battlecruiser gets boarded by zerg >interior mission
>>625066I don't like SC2, but I'll check it out if I can find it. Do you happen to remember what round was it, who the zerg was or which season it was in?
>>624222MOOOODSget this banner up
>>624093>>623959>not ignoring Bunks wholy and just using SD to wall SiegeTanks behind them instead... Also post ELO
>>624222>>624683I would be glad
>>630624brb, sending 2 goons to your natural, I hope you like losing ladder points
>>630624You will lose half your games by the 5 minute mark to proxied dragoons, any zealot rush is an insta loss. Unless you want to significantly delay your nat, a bunker is neccessary.
>>625066It was Maru VS Reynor, zerg kept running ling bane lurker with Vipers for blinding cloud into Maru's planetary - tank fortification, it was surreal how good Maru played that. I remember in the post-game interview Reynor said that against every other opponent in a situation like this, the terran would die to the A move but that somehow Maru just shrugged it off and he had no idea what to do since he threw away so much shit.
>>624624Turtling > Rushing > Greed expansion > TurtlingTurtling is a losing game if your opponent expands, builds his economy like a madman, takes map control and prepares to overwhelm you in the long run
>>625000Crusaders are level 4 nigga, and they definitely carry their weight. Take retal off of the enemy and these dudes just destroy anything.
>>630158>>630160Pretty soon you'll both end up with a tweaked version of Planetary Annihilation
>>625276It's kinda sobering. I don't think there is any strategy beyond tank spam in RA.
>>624300did they fix all the downgrade wargear in soulstorm? doing a playthrough as gorgutz what wargear makes you worse
>>624228What the fuck did you just say about two of my waifus? Both of them are really strong, don't even.

>>625000>double attack with high damageNah they are great as a berserk unit, also I really liked the sound they make when they move.

Why does it have wheelchair ramps?

>>635036the terrans are based on americans after all
>>624222With the trips too, c'mon baby it's perfect for a banner
Don't get me wrong, this is a great unit. But only if you don't use it exactly the way you would want to use it.
>>635395>Literally making shit up as it goes along with rest of your army - so you wont need to wait for dropships to ferry troops from across the whole map... Sounds pretty rad - NGL
>>635507thank you for not lying
>>624104I think its funny he gets a special kill animation against the Greater Knarloc but in a 1v1 he would lose horribly.
>>623959These guys die in one hit.
>>635507It builds shit so fast too that it can really overwhelm you. But the first inclination is to use it like a big tank, with its shape, guns and the shield generator making that seem like a good idea. Right up until it dies like the giant squishy thing it is.
>>636451At least it can fire quite a distance
>>636451It's quite okay as creeping artillery though. Does that count?
>>624098Anon here. You tried Dark Plague and a supply of Zerglings to eat?
>>624228Please. Naga Queens are fucking monstrous in a fight. Their ability to cancel counter-attacks make them one of the top-tier tier 6 creatures. Dread Knights are only powerful due to their special skill.
>>635395I use it as frontline artillery. Park twelve of those in the right place, give them aerial/anti-air support to keep those nuke bombers away from them (unless your enemy launches a nuke at them) and crank out Percivals and Titans. Especially Percivals due to their long-ranged plasma cannons.
>>639926You could have mentioned how it is not affected by basic Curse (and Bless), has the best damage, second best HPs and second best attack among the tier. It is only limited by the worst defence and speed among all upgraded level 6 creatures.
>>639944I was wrong, it's third best attack because Cyclops King exists. But it's a ranged creature without no melee penalty so I tend to forget about them in those comparisons. So 15-16 attack is pretty much the baseline for most L6U.
>>639952>But it's a ranged creature without no melee penaltyCyclops do have melee penalty.

>>641370Are you on /int/, /b/ or /pol/? Same answer.
>>630136>starcraft with realistic rangesReminds me of American conquest and cannons being WMDs with basically map wide range.
>>632492Realistic ranges is all I ask for. I don't want 50 people shooting each other from a shorter distance than musket era with fully automatic weapons

>>624855D-matrixed firebats say hello.
>>642121You don't even need firebats, you just EMP the defiler and irradiate everything else. The two science vessels might even be less costly, don't remember the exact prices anymore.
>>642083waaaaaaaait a second
>>642426>EMP the defilerCHOMP
>>642435It has shorter vision range. Not sure about whether Feedback range is longer than the edge of EMP, I remember it being like that but that was before BW most likely.
>>642435I meant I remember Feedback's range being shorter, obviously.
>>642452bruh, I mean that defiler just eats another ling and it's full on mana again, you need to irradiate these wigglers instead
>>642459If we are adding more units into the mix anything goes. The ling you have sent towards to be eaten is blown up by a siege tank. Or marines. Whatever.
