Remember when Koei made games that weren't set in the Three Kingdoms or Sengoku eras?

>>
>>590039
7, 8, and 10. Those were the ones where they added a lot of rpg elements. 7 was way too easy to break though. 8 was probably the best out of the 3 of them.
>>
>>590532
they failed to port so many of them it's not even funny. If you like the Nobunaga's Ambition games, there was Taikou Risshiden V. In that game you could play as a daimyo, officer, merchant, ninja, even open your own dojo. Unfortunately it never got ported. But if you check steam for Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX, there is a discussion where someone posted a translated version of the pc game. I've installed and played it, it works just fine. Just some of the chatter isn't translated, but it largely works well.
>>
>>592986
Breh taikou rishiden V has been fan translated in English, yiu just need to download the jap version on nyaa, install slap the translation file in and done
>>
>>590532
Apparently they're working on a new one (I think it's an mmo) called Uncharted Waters Origins. There is Uncharted Waters Online, but a lot of people have said the power gap between new players, and those that have been playing for 5+ years is just too great. Everything is too expensive for a noob, so it's not worth it.
>>
>>593001
I know, I've got it. But there's an all in one package on the steam discussions for Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX. Lots of games that should've been ported, but never did got fan translations. Like Destiny of an Emperor 2 for NES.
>>
>>580940
Liberty or death and genghis khan 2 are unironically the best SNES games they made
>>
>>593033
Uncharted Waters 2 was also a really good one. Aerobiz Supersonic was a fun airline simulator, but it was too easy to break with international flights in the later eras.
>>
>>580940
Clearly they weren't good enough or they'd still be popular.

It's of more interest to just establish what is the best modern Nobunaga/Three Kingdoms games.
>>
>>593054
"Good quality" does equal "good sales". As one anon already mentioned, post-PS2 era Romance of Three Kingdoms games have mostly been ass, but they keep getting made because people keep buying them.
>>
>>593002
It's a gacha game I think.
I'm willing to give it a try if a global server is ever released for that one
>>
>>592986
Thanks for that tip anon.
I'm gonna try that Taiko game.
>>
>>593838
Koreans seem to hate it btw
>>
>>594039
It's pretty good. The sparring matches are a bit of a pain until you get the hang of how the movement system works. But there are some simple trade routes that can make you some money pretty quick. Maybe pick up a quality spear (because those really help when getting used to how the sparring works), and get used to the sparring. The game honestly is a lot of fun. It's more in depth than Romance 7/8/10 for sure.
>>
>>593838
Gacha's fine by me. Most of them these days are pretty forgiving. You won't be a top player if you're strictly f2p, but there's enough quality stuff you can get if you want to go strictly f2p.
>>594461
probably because they can't buy their way to victory
>>
>>594491
I've heard the opposite desu. "Pay to wind" or something like that in relation to sail
Well we will see if that game ever gets a global server anyway.

No point in playing something completely in korean.
>>
>>594545

>>595446
Yeah, your second post was the one with the interview. Basically what I got from it is that you can pay to get a better ship, which gives you a head start compared to other people. But there's a lot of stuff they haven't implemented yet, like adventure missions, etc. So that would also affect the balance of the game. I just hope it gets out of beta, and gets a global release. I want to play UWO, but they haven't done anything to fix the power gap between new players, and people that have been playing since launch. So I'd rather skip that headache and play a fresh UW.

Well let's see.
Truth to be told, I have not never played an Uncharted Water game, I just saw the trailer for that game while looking for Musou news and It looked neat.
I have since then downloaded UW2 for Snes so I'll give that one a try.

The age of sailing is such an underrated setting for games. I get that there's a bunch of asterisks about what people actually did on this time that it's very uh problematic, but even as someone who was colonized I love the romantism of sailing the seven seas for gold, glory and country
>>
>>595808
The economy also seemed a bit fucked up, not making long distance trading worthwhile and it looks like the language system caused more annoyance than anything else.

UW2 is fun as fuck. With any game, there are some mechanics that can break it easily. But I really liked trying to establish trade routes from Japan to Europe.

>>595834
it's their first closed beta. They said they're working on it. They don't want to have the team have to directly intervene anytime something gets out of whack with the economy. The language thing is an interesting, if not new mechanic for any game. Maybe they'll keep it, maybe they'll scrap it. As long as it gets a global release and I can have some fun sailing the seven seas, I'm okay with it. I think the last game I really had fun with that was Assassin's Creed Black Flag. But it was pretty light on the combat, and trading was non-existent.
>>
>>595847
I have an open heart to the new game for sure.
This is a series I've always had a cursory interest on it and if nothing else I think visually speaking the mobile game looks great.
>>
>>595850
>think visually speaking the mobile game looks great
yeah. They're using the unreal 4 engine on it. It's no wonder why it looks so good. Using the UE5 engine would definitely be too much of a stretch since mobile doesn't have the same hardware as consoles and high end pcs, but yeah, the limited footage I've seen looks absolutely great.
>>
>>595839
>LoD was an attempt to appeal to the west but strategy games don't appeal to the west
strategy games do appeal to the west. It's just that Koei was such a niche company at the time that nobody really gave a fuck about what they put out. They only started to gain some traction in the west when they put out the Dynasty Warriors games for ps2.

Probably because strategy games are the domain of the PC, but the PC vidya market in Japan is somewhat underdeveloped because the stigma from the PC-98 days when desktop vidya there was mainly porn games is still there. The people there that play video games play on consoles whose libraries are full of jarpigs, so in order for a Japanese strategy game to sell you need to present it as a jarpig with strategy elements. Because of that, you end up with games like Super Robot Wars (which seems to have removed the turn-based strategy part altogether with the recent games) and Fire Emblem being the most successful strategy games, but people play them not because they like turn-based combat but because of waifu wankery. Even modern versions of Nobunaga's Ambition are character-driven, you'd get your map painting interrupted by p l o t all the time.

are you new to the game? If so you're going to find there's one hell of a power gap. The biggest complaint aside from the power gap, is that good equipment is very overpriced. So the people that have been playing for years and years have a significant advantage, because they can afford to buy them. Newer players are at a big disadvantage.

well, if you want to scratch the UW itch, go for it. I mean it is f2p. I just remember from a couple of years ago first people playing as pirates complained they were too underpowered. Now it's the opposite. All the other plays are complaining that they're too OP.

There's no official statement as far as I'm aware.
One could postulate that with the modern consoles, they envisioned that Nobunaga and Sangoku could keep a fanbase thanks to Musou games while no such thing exists for Genghis.
At the same time, they did market the three as "The history game trio" but dropped that label for Genghis 4, which itself came out before Musou.
Japanese wiki has a note that they simply sold less than the other two.

Anyone here played (or even heard of) what is probably the most obscure oldschool Koei game, Ishin no Arashi? It was their first strategy-RPG hybrid under the "Rekoeition" label that would go on to be used for games like Uncharted Waters and Inindo.
>>

The sequel has 2 version, the PC and PSX.
>Ishin no Arashi
I know it.
But I never tried it.
It's included in the 25th Years Koei Anniversary Pack.
But most of the games in that pack are MSX version with remastered graphics.
>Rekoeition
The first Rekoeition I played is Sangokushi Eiketsuden.
It's the first in the Eiketsuden series.
It's like Fire Emblem but 3 Kingdoms theme.
I also play the Koumeiden (Zhuge Liang) and Sousouden (Cao Cao).
Never play the Sengoku version of Eiketsuden (Mouri Motonari & Oda Nobunaga).

I remember the tactical AI in this being so bad (even by early Koei standards) that I had trouble taking the game seriously. Also buying and selling food was a free action, so arbitrage was absurdly easy and profitable. I can only assume the game was deliberately designed to be babby's first strategy game, the genre's equivalent of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

anyone ever tried playing the Tokugawa challenge scenario in Nobunaga's Ambition Iron Triangle? It was bad enough being tag teamed by Takeda and Oda, but I think they screwed up in development. Also, since they're in a coalition against you, even the Imagawa joins in on some attacks.

>>

Tendou is like Iron Triangle on steroids. Rise to Power and Lords of Shadow are also good. Unfortunately I couldn't get into Sphere. It seemed way too streamlined and limited.
>>
>>621881
try putting the settings to hard, picking a weaker clan, then having to go up against the Hojo. They are OP as all hell in SoI. I just like how they got rid of the doom stacks that Takeda would trample you with in IT. You actually had to make effective use of choke points and time out unit marches, as well as keeping an eye on supplies. If anything Iron Triangle was much more streamlined. You could throw 250k troops into one castle then just barge out of it with your top officers and pummel the enemy.
>>
>>621907
I was refering more to fief development and equiping soldiers. The whole district development paled compared to IT's and on PS4 you had to buy guns in preset quantities. Battles sucked too. I liked IT's massive map battles.
>>
>>583779
ok retard
>>

they did simplify fief development for sure. But they also got rid of that pants on head retarded doom stack shit that the takeda cavalry could wreck you with. Somehow 300k cavalry could stack on each other on a single lane, and hit you at the same time. The solution to that problem was just to magically stack rifles on top of your castle where they couldn't hit them. Both games have their strengths and weaknesses. Also IT was easy to break because all you needed was one S rank strategist with high INT, and they could paralyze an army 10 times their size. Then it's just easy pickings. I like playing both games, but IT had some incredibly glaring weaknesses. It was nice that you could put turrets at certain points and slowly chip away at the enemy. But the doom stack oversight was ridiculous.

What would you guys say is the best Nobunaga Ambition?
>>
>>622384
It's honestly up for debate. Iron Triangle was fun. There was the opportunity for research, which could give you a huge advantage. Not to mention that there was clan specific tech that would wreck your opposition. Takeda and Uesugi had some really strong cavalry tech. Oda had their musket tech. Muskets basically won in that game.

I like Sphere of Influence because you have to plan out your marches. Even if you're a weaker clan you can choose and pick your attacks. If you have the right policies and castle/fortress developments, you can beat a tougher opponent. Both games are great imo, but they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I wanted to try 天道 but the demo from 4Gamer won't work. I mean, it works but the game proceeds at like 5-10 FPS and refuses to use the GPU. The full version ought to have fixed this for Win10 but >60 doraridoos.

Porkyman Conquest sequel when? I just finished the tutorial campaign and it was pretty fun and unique for a Pokemon game. Only things I had gripes about were not being able to choose where deploy and teleports taking a turn to use. I felt the latter kinda slowed down the game too much. A newer Conquest with faster menu load times would be great.

I've been playing for about three days now and I wouldn't say its been >smooth sailing but its been alright.
As it expected theres some growing pains when it comes to playing a game that is 15 years old and still continues to receive new content so it can be pretty obtuse I think, but after reading a few stuff I think I've at least found my footing when it comes to the early game. I've been doing adventure stuff with some trading on the side but I have partake in exactly 0 stuff when it comes to the combat content. Only got into one fight and I ran away from it instead of actually fighting it. To be perfectly honest I'm not really into grinding combat, so I figured I might as well put that stuff later.

It feels like a very heavy grind game, but then again its an MMORPG. And a lot of the content at least early game can be separated by 15-20 minute sail times where not a lot of stuff happens. Like sailing around the italian peninsula to get to venice felt like it took ages. Maybe I need new sails

So when you sail in european waters you're in safe waters so you can't be attacked by players for example.
But if I were to go to try to cross the atlantic to North America for example you'd go into hostile waters which means that you're free to be attacked by NPCs and players alike.

On safe waters there are a lot of NPCs like "Local Pirate" or "Coastal Raider" and whatnot and supposedly they can attack you or you attack them, but I've yet to be attacked or attack them so I don't know if you can just jump into them to farm them like you kill a slime in an early MMO game.

And as far as land battles goes, some cities like Genoa for example has the Northwestern Genoa outskirts where you can go on that have hostile NPCs that you can engage in PVE with. That's the only time I ever got close to fight someone, because a lot of adventuring can be done in those instances, though I mostly just ran away from those fights.

Trading mostly, with some adventuring and combat (not on purpose but when NPC pirates attack me, which is often)
The thing about combat skills is that most of them or at least the ones that really matter are locked behind the combat class tree, while you can get by in trading or adventuring without the base skills. I read in chat that in East Asia you get constantly attacked by PC pirates and the only way to escape is by using Tribute Goods, a consumable that costs 30k ducats and only buys you 15 minutes of non-aggro and only from that player.
Apparently people don't form convoys? Would be nice to have fleet battles between pirates/national navies and East India traders like what actually happened.

...Why wouldn't they just make a glorified reskin of a game people already liked, in ANY other setting. I mean sure they couldn't recycle the fucking portraits again. The historical events in SoI are great. They're easy to skip if you want, they provide a good combination of character and historical info if you care to read them, and they actually play heavily into the map painting. I don't really see the need to complain about them, especially when it's not only incredibly easy to turn the off altogether but doing so will drastically affect the AI and see it go full map painter (I.E. 1560 Imagawa with historical events vs 1560 Imagawa without).

Even with Imagawa's leader not doing that suicide run against Nobunaga, you still have the Hojo which are so very much OP in that game due to having 2 top-tier generals right from the get go, and they also have a lot of weak neighbors with castles/fortresses with a lot of districts.
>>

>>
>>731122
I saw it happen again.
There are people who AFK outside of cities and there is also a random chance for your ship to catch fire.
thatsxcom.xcf
>>
>>730965
Yeah, the Hojo are monsters in SoI compared to their relatively mediocre performance in IT, and I think the two big reasons for that are the Chiba are treated as direct retainers instead of vassals, which really isolates the Satomi and means even if they conquer the forts in Shimosa they're not going to have the retainers to effectively man them, while the Hojo also have access to one of the best policies ingame, which increases militia, population growth and happiness, and since they have the Kanto plain Low Land Taxation means nothing.

Still 1560 Hojo AI will take longer to get off the ground than most since the Uesugi have pushed into Musashi and marriage alliances are indefinite, so if Yoshimoto doesn't die at Okehazama that more or less keeps them contained to Kanto long enough for the Takeda and/or Imagawa to blob.
>>

>a random chance for your ship to catch fire

>>
>>731376
>the Hojo are monsters in SoI compared to their relatively mediocre performance in IT,
that's the crazy thing about it though. I've played through IT at least 20 times. Lately, Hojo just keeps wrecking shit because they're the first to get division of labor.
>the first 10 years of playing the game Hojo does jack shit if Takeda does jack shit
>last 10 years they just zerg rush because they got division of labor first, and a lazy Takeda couldn't stop the onslaught
I'm honestly just emulating the ps2 game at this point, but there has to be some kind of skynet code in there. Hojo has really stepped up their game since the game was dropped over a decade ago.
>>
>>732498
>that's the crazy thing about it though. I've played through IT at least 20 times. Lately, Hojo just keeps wrecking shit because they're the first to get division of labor.
Yeah, the whole Hojo game really just comes down to a combination of how long they take to conquer the Satake, and whether or not the Takeda can conquer Echigo and Tokaido before they do. Five Admonitions allows them to totally eclipse the Takeda long-term because it helps their fortresses reach their economic potential far quicker, which is even more asymmetrical since most of them are on plains and half the Takeda fortresses only have three districts max.

>I'm honestly just emulating the ps2 game at this point, but there has to be some kind of skynet code in there. Hojo has really stepped up their game since the game was dropped over a decade ago.

I still pull out my old PS2 to play it every now and again. It's amazing how the Takeda went from totally OP in IT to pushovers in SoI. It's also proof to me Koei needs to stop trying to reinvent the wheel every game and just allow themselves to build on mechanics that work - we didn't need them to axe tech, and imagine how much better the SoI tactical battles would be with different unit types.
>>
>>732892
Iron Triangle and Rise to Power have some of the best AI I've encountered in a strategy game. Particularly IT,. I barely left my rear guard ports defended because I figured the AI wouldn't take advantage. I found out real quick as the computer nearly gutted my soft underbelly.
>>
>>733571
I actually don't think the IT AI is the best because it'll prioritize attacking ports over other targets - I.E. I've seen the Suzuki and Imagawa both try to take Toba port rather than push into Izumi/Yamato or Mikawa/Owari when the latter would make far more sense. It typically ends up sapping them of troops where they need them on the actual frontlines. It'll definitely catch you off-guard if you're not prepared for it, but it's something that can be easily blunted with some planning. The SoI AI maxed out is probably some of the best strategic challenges I've had in a Koei game, especially as a smaller clan (I remember years ago there was someone on the steam forums who managed to pull off a victory as 1582 Sanada against a maxed out ai and the only way they ended up winning was essentially pushing eastward and dragging out the fight with the Toyotomi long enough for Hideyoshi to die and Hideyori to take over, as leader stats will affect AI aggressiveness).

I liked how in RtP and IT, if you conquered too much of the map, the AI would flip the table and just have everybody join together in a coalition against you.

They are pretty fun, especially if you're a fan of the period. Just don't go into them expecting anything particularly complex, japanese strategy games are pretty casual.
>>
>>743466
>>743498

They are, and there is complexity, the games sadly just can't seem to make up their mind on what aspects to keep complex since Koei tries to reinvent the wheel every other game rather than just letting the games build on one another. The tactical situation is very simple in SoI, but diplomacy is more dynamic and optimizing your castles/fortresses requires weighing heavy opportunity costs, as there are builds that can get you the most out of it immediately but they will lag behind compared to one that emphasizes growth caps over immediate gold/pop. Comparatively, Iron Triangle doesn't even have a 'tactical' phase - all the combat is handled on the strategic map, so the composition of your armies will affect where and how they can attack, and the damage they can do to the province (so raiding your enemies is a viable strategy if you're fine with loosing some fame). Character management is better than in SoI and money isn't as readily available for it, but the map is smaller and more predetermined. Rise to Power has an excellent tactical game but less involved economic sphere.

Taishi is just bad, and it probably would be decent if Koei had bothered to port the PuK.

It's blanket statements like this that make me disregard your entire post. Giren's Greed, alone, makes your statement moot.
>>
>>743725
Probably best all-around, and I'm still bitter it (and IT's PUK) wasn't ported. My personal favorite is SoI because I feel it's strategic gameplay is some of Koei's finest, but every time I go back to Iron Triangle I see minor details and just think how much Koei gave up mechanically in favor of larger scale.

I wish some western team would decide to tackle Koei's genre and give them some actual competition, but it's a niche market and I doubt it'd get much recognition without having Shogun 2-style battles.

Sphere of Influence was a miracle, all of their other strategy games past decade were mediocre at best, even with PUKs.

>>744960

>>
>>744449
Because SoI was shipped with all of its content for one, PuK included - which is not only a incredible considering it's (2015) Koei, but actually makes it worth the price. Taishi doesn't have the PuK, which from what I can tell looks like it actually hammers out much of the issues with the base game (and actually introduces interesting sieges), but also sacrificed most of SoI's strategic depth and choices in favor of trying to make the tactical battles more interesting - which it fails at, as there's no real distinction between unit types beyond professionals and militia, and they hobble the little emergent gameplay the SoI tactical battles had by restricting tactics and adding in phases. Basically most Koei strategy games are two steps forward, one step back, Taishi is two steps back and one forward, and many of the systems they did introduce (more involved agriculture, trade nodes, clan meetings, counties, etc.) to replace something SoI had are either hobbled by a poor implementation or are just shallow compared to their predecessors.

>>745004
I enjoyed the Osaka stuff for Ascension, but that's really the most I can say. I would have preferred they just updated SoI with an Osaka scenario/dlc and added in the tech system and building updates without them having to be hobbled by a discount Taikou Risshiden vassal system, but I guess that's asking too much of Koei.

First two thirds of the game are solid, ending is rushed and really falls off because of retarded twist villain and Team Ninja's hate-boner for the Takeda, mechanically it's not going back to SW1's glory days but I've had more fun with its gameplay than all of the SW4-era games and it requires a little more thought than usual because special npcs can easily break combos.

Ascension was Koei trying and utterly failing to appeal to fans of Taikou Risshiden and RTK10's rp-heavy style of gameplay while trying to also blend in NA's turn-based strategy with it, which was just a recipe for disaster. It meant that the game is needlessly overcomplicated (six stats instead of three and EVERY facility has to be individually levelled like this, not just the entire castle) and seriously hampers any freedom you have as an officer in those two games as you're basically confined to your Closed Space Colony in Ascension until you somehow get to Castle Lord, which you're then confined to instead. You can't wander around or even move outside.

That, and utterly turning off historical events when you're a custom officer just means that the entire officer play is basically moot.
>>
>>744449
Also unlike RTK13 and 14 where English localization was just an afterthought at best (as evidenced by that the Custom Event character limit in the latter is WAY too short to even do anything meaningful with and is likely still set to the character limit for the Chinese version), SoI's English version was actually released with the NA audience fully in mind and not only comes with all the features of the PUK, but also is fully translated and optimized for the English language. Even just something as simple as the Custom Officer name limit tells you that they only implemented English localization at the last minute in the other games, really (i.e. SoI allows for 14 characters each in the First and Last Names while RTK14 in sharp contrast allows only 15 character in BOTH the First and Last Names combined...).

Here's something that happens rarely. Nob's Ambition Taishi has gone on sale. Is it as bad as they say? I've been waiting for news about the upcoming title, guess that'll come in about a week. But I'm also seeing some people talk about an upcoming PUK for Taishi. I thought Shinsei was gonna be an all new game?

RoTK 14 is also discounted right now, but I've been playing that on Switch as it is. I really wish they'd just localized the 13 port instead, but I've enjoyed myself anyway
>>
>>772785
Shinsei is the new game to be shown at the start of October at TGS.
Taishi's PUK came out ages ago (it added shit like more involved castle sieges), though I don't know whether it was localised or not. Maybe it's that?
>>
>>772785
>>772819

Taishi was localized, but the PuK wasn't - although I think it did get a chinese translation. Taishi is really frustrating title for me as it's a mess of good ideas and bad implementation - every time I see something I like the fun in it is ruined because of how it's handled. 'Oh, want to expand a trade network? Too bad, monopolized.' 'Oh, want to have an interesting building system where each kori can draw from its surrounding terrain and battles can better economically affect provinces? To bad, most of the buildings are just for upgrading officers.' 'Oh, want agriculture to be more involved? Well you're only going to be able to fertilize a single castle even if you own half of japan just because you haven't unlocked the necessary policy.' Stuff like that, compounded with just the unnecessary removal of systems from SoI and even goddamn Ascension makes it something I can't recommend for someone who's choosing between it or SoI. More frustrating is that the PuK apparently addressed a lot of the game's problems.

Hopefully Shinsei will be decent, but I don't have much hope, especially with how they handled RotK14.

Okay so Rebirth's gimmick is that all the underlings get their own AI and act on it. Battles are back to Creation's style. Devs are aware of the need to strike a balance between letting everyone do as they like and still having the player do stuff.
I think it's a very neat idea. Certainly better than last Rotk's "Yeah, let's just add tiles back."

We will see how well Koei manages a Sengoku Dwarf Fortress. But it's deffo something worth trying, imo.

The main use of the hybrid in NA is for season/historical events and ease of diplomacy. I wouldn't trust Koei to make a proper full time for NA.
>>

Website for Shinsei, it looks like mapwise they're taking some inspiration from Paradox? It seems you can also put individual kori under a retainer's jurisdiction?
>>
>>784057
Can anyone translate? It sounds like one of the selling points is that the officers will do things on their own to some extent, without any player input.
>>
>>784073
'Warlords who move with AI The subordinate warlords support the player as "servants" who act at their own discretion. Aiming for national unification together, we will move forward! You can experience the steps of the Sengoku daimyo with your skin. The unprecedented "Nobunaga's Ambition" is "reborn" here. The vassals who act at their own discretion hold the fate of the power. The vassals choose their best move and act without the player's intervention. Make proposals to develop the forces, develop the territory, and respond to the invasion of hostile forces. Also, on the battlefield, it can be a step to break through the situation by judging the situation and advancing or making a proposal. The fate of power, such as power management and territorial expansion, varies greatly depending on the vassals. Move history together with your princes! As a daimyo, while being supported by his vassals, as a leader of them, he shows policies, sometimes gives instructions, and walks the path to unification of the world together. In order to develop the country, it is best to give the castles and counties under its control to the vassals as "chigyo" and let them rule. The development of the power changes greatly depending on the talent of the military commander who was given the knowledge. Over 2,200 warlords have appeared! Understanding various abilities and individuality and how to draw out the power of the vassals is the showcase of the skill as a Sengoku daimyo. Capture various battlefields! There are two battles, one on the national map and the other is a "battle" in which the troops are directly commanded on the battlefield. In the battle, the march route and the suppression of "key points" greatly affect the battle situation. Respect the suggestions and judgments of your vassals, give your own instructions, or read the war situation to win.'

Looks like they're trying to do vassal management right this time arond.
>>

>>
>>784133
So delegated AI will be better. Still not sold on leaving frontline fiefs at the comps discretion.
>>
>>784689
In Koei's mild defense, a good strategic AI has actually been one of the things they've been able to deliver on - viceroys worked great in Iron Triangle with the proper traits, and SoI's AI was pretty solid.
>>
>>784190
What a great soundtrack.
>>
>>784133
Or trying to fix the clusterfuck of RTK14's system, as it sounds like it's that, but with even more autonomy and less direct control.
>>
>>784689
It's probably a take on the Fog of War concept where there's just simply no way a commander is going to be able to micromanage every unit every single minute, and the sub-commanders will have to act on their own initiative sooner or later once contact is made with the enemy and communications between units and HQ becomes extremely uncertain the farther they get. That was why Napoleon got as far as he did early on in the Napoleonic Wars because most of his Marshals were also highly capable leaders themselves and could take charge of the local situation when they needed to.

Except in RTK14 Koei did it really stupidly. You are supposed to give general orders at the start of each strategy phase to each unit, but once you go into the movement phase, those units will carry out those movement orders to the letter without regard for the current situation or allow you to issue new orders midway; So if you order Guan Yu to move to a square near Xuchang, Cao Cao goes after you in RANDOMLY DETERMINED INITIATIVE ORDER (so if your enemy that you're attacking goes after you in init, good luck with that! It means he can react to your attack without you knowing or being able to do anything about it until it's too late!), and he then sends five units waiting for him at that square, Guan Yu will STILL keep moving to that square like a dumbass and will subsequently get himself slaughtered unless he's somehow still alive by the next strategy phase.

So it sounds like Shinsei is going to retain RTK14's delegation system but actually give the commanders much more autonomy to react to situations this time around, which is a good thing, because RTK14 was a clusterfuck.

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but can't you just give Guan Yu the order to attack any enemies he comes in contact with? That should override any other orders you give him. Plus I usually just approached castles really slowly, being just out of range from a castle's attack before I send a unit to attack it.

*Getting enemy officers to betray is coming back.
*When a castle is besieged the defender chooses how many supplies to bring into it.
*Create custom clans
*Coalitions are coming back
*An option for a full real-time battle system. The current hybrid system still seems to be available.
*You can now extend alliances instead of waiting for them to run out then reassigning them.
*Policy screen has been reworked; all policies are shown from the start instead of some being hidden, and seems the player now picks who attends the council instead of it being random.
*The "tactics gauge" from battles in SOI seems to have returned to control the use of tactics. Possibly only in the real time battles and not in the current system? I'm not sure.
*New tactics added for Mori Motonari, Honda Tadakatsu, Sanada Yukimura, Azai Nagamasa, and Kuroda Kanbei. These may not be the only new ones added.
*There's a new way to raise officer loyalty. I am not 100% sure but it seems to be granting fiefs, which are gained when you capture bases.
*Seems to now be options for negotiating the surrender of a besieged castle.
*New "Super" difficulty setting, and it looks like difficulty is more customizable (like in SOI).
*Randomizing start positions seems to have returned.
*Battlefield traps. Most aren't translating well, but it seems to include floods and fire attack.
*Many battlefield structures now available. Firstly, it seems Camps will now increase morale recovery of nearby friendly troops and the forts will do that as well as fire on nearby enemy units. There are also new structures on battlefields.

What could have been...
