>Processor: Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz or AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz
>Memory: 6 GB RAM

>* NVIDIA graphics cards require driver version 461.72 (latest tested)
> *AMD graphics cards require driver version 21.2.x (latest tested)

How does this even happen? Who is making this? Windows 7 fags getting left out I guess. Be prepared to buy 70 gigs of absolute trash, no ability to buy the original game LOL. This is what happens when you pay some Chinese company absolute shit money, I guess you get shit results. Who would've thought that?

>no path finding fixed
>all the units look like crap
>the camera is still crap
>little compatibility with other hardware
>the map looks like crap
>70 gigs of storage

>"b-but they made sure all the factions were playable"
because you're too retarded to edit a file, a child could do it. They aren't even adding to the roster
>muh ethnicity is where I build my brigades
ah yes because you spend so much time looking at the ethnicity of your troops, totally warrens the price of the "remaster"
>"t-they got rid of faction cap, THINK OF THE MODS!!!"
except they made the map harder to remodel, I guess I'll wait a few years for moders to make the game playable so I can pirate it.

Like any random game does nowadays, uncompressed audio and or high resolution textures.
>>
>>540272
Nah it doesn't even look that much different from the original.
Game devs are just throwing junk data into games with the assumption that you'll be forced to dedicate more to their game if you have to keep uninstalling every other game to play theirs.
MW2019 lets you delete the campaign and all of that uncompressed audio, animation data, and campaign only maps/models only take 20GB of the game's 200GB.

>because you're too retarded to edit a file, a child could do it. They aren't even adding to the roster
In the case of many of the factions now playable in the remaster, there was more involved in simply editing the file you're talking about. If you wanted to finish a campaign properly with some, you also had to add in victory conditions, and in the case of emergent factions in Barbarian Invasion like the Romano-British or Slavs who are now playable off the bat, you'd need to also transfer settlements, add in a family tree, armies, edit out the emergent script, etc.

Most companies just put win10, since its the most use. It should also run on windows 7, since its so similar with win 10. It could even run on GNU/Linux with wine
>>
>>541525
Its still not THAT hard. A modder could do it. So Why can't a company with milions at their disposal do it properly
>>
>>541580
Because the factions were probably too similar for CA's liking. That's the exact reason we have fantasy Bronze Age Egypt instead of proper Ptolemaic Egypt, CA wanted there to be faction variety at all costs even if they had to force it and avoided redundancy

It's actually a horrible precedent that could one day fuck future gamers over. There was some DRM way back in the mid-2000's, and when W7 came around it refused to recognize it as a valid OS (and the same is true now for W10). So wanna play a game with that DRM, like say American Conquest Divided Nation? Too bad, it's basically broken forever.

And sure you can say "W10 is forever", but there's a bit of a ship of theseus to it and eventually the games that are hardlocked may not work in future versions of W10. tl;dr don't put hardlocks in anything.
>>
>>541970
>It's actually a horrible precedent that could one day fuck future gamers over.
Anon, this sort of thing is far from new. Support for older operating systems getting phased out has been a thing in PC gaming longer than you've been alive. Windows 7 is twelve years old now and not getting any younger.

A community manager for CA said he found the system requirements on the store page "surprising" and will have more info on it tomorrow, maybe there's something going on with the 4k stuff? Like, the 4K graphics DLC in AoE2 HD is like 30GB in size alone, maybe they'll have a similar free graphics pack DLC so you don't have to download that massive thing all at once
Still doesn't really explain the relatively high CPU requirements desu

Spec requirements for memory are exaggerated in terms of how much memory is actually used. If you don't believe me, delete one of your game folders, check the specs, and hit reinstall and see how much it actually installs. Example, Shogun II says it requires 32gb but on my hard drive only takes up 23gb.

>>
>>543459
Right off the bat you mention a game that has on-disc DRM. SafeDisc and others are not compatible Windows 10, so all you need to do is run an .exe with the DRM ripped out. This won't affect performance at all.
>>
>>543460
As the post explains, that's precisely because it's a toaster. Modern hardware does not contain the specific instructions Rome 1 uses in a hacky kind of way to get better performance, resulting in bad performance on new PCs. You can see it with streamers etc who have tried to stream Rome 1 (non-remastered) and have very good PC hardware- the game's performance tanks regularly. I don't even want to hear the bullshit from anons claiming to have super modern PCs that magically run the game fine, it's not a debate and it's been explained in that post why that's a lie.

On my system once a campaign gets far enough it'll just crash consistently during battles, at sub 30 fps the whole time of course. I'm looking forward to being able to play the game normally again
>>
>>543533
>claims it doesn't run on modern PCs for universal and technical reasons?
no because it IS universal and well known that rome runs like trash on modern computers
>>
>>543557
Don't bother. He's going to insist that he has a magic computer that runs Rome 1 fine on new hardware despite the fact that there's documented reasons why that's impossible. That, or by "fine" he means he's okay with the framedrops. Essentially what he's claiming would be like some guy insisting he has a prebuilt PC from 2002 that runs Witcher 3 fine.
>>
>>541620
They aren't doing it to spite people, game devs are just kikes working with the jews at Microsoft to get people to """upgrade""" to a botnet where they can spy on all our data with ease

Watched Smartdonkey, he's using a i7 8700k and a 2080.

>How does this even happen?
A lot of people forget that you can barely get 20 fps in the ORIGINAL GAME with top of the line specs today, of course the remaster, which uses the same dogshit unoptimized singlethreaded engine, is going to require more.
>>
>>550482
The Remaster makes use of multiple cores and can actually recognise your modern GPU, unlike Rome 1. Pretty much every streamer who covered Rome 1 stuff in the past has commented on how much better the remaster runs and it's immediately noticeable especially in large battles and sieges. The high system requirements, assuming they're going to remain accurate post-release, are almost certainly due to the uncompressed 4K textures which hopefully will be made optional like with AoE2 DE.
>>
>>540224
They couldn't even fix the pathfinding. that should have been the first thing that they "remastered."
>>
>>551186
>being this american
They couldn't simply "remaster" the pathfinding. It's unfortunately something intrinsic to the game's battle engine. They would have had to instead remake the game on the Warscape battle engine, which everyone would have absolutely screeched and shat themselves in rage over for obvious reasons, or create an entirely new engine which was never going to happen since that's a project on the order of creating an entirely new entry.
>>
>>551274
With modern CPUs it might be able to run a bit better if it's tuned to, but without a heavy rewrite that's likely the best you get.
>>
>>544929
Not at all my experience. It's running smoothly, at least the CA content creator release version. Maybe wait until you've actually played it or seen it being played before posting bullshit?

Posting here because my question is performance related and I don't want to make a new thread for just one question:
I am playing Thrones of Britannia right now and I have massive performance problems on the campaign map. The battles run smooth at 60fps, but I only get around 20 FPS on the campaign map. I checked MSI Afterburner and it shows that my GPU and CPU utilisation cruise around the 50 percent mark. Does anybody here know what this is about and if it is possible to fix it? GPU: Vega56 CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x, 16GB RAM, Windows 10

Let me explain something.
There was this sequel to King of the Dragon Pass - Six Age or something.
It is on Win10 only. Do I wish it was on WIn7? Sure.
Do I throw a fit over it? Nope.
Sure I would get it and play it but cost of switching to Win10 is simply not worth it.
In case of RomeTW, my old Rome is working great and there is no reason to ever bother with Remaster. Sure I will check it but alone it not really worth it.
Give me a good reason to switch to Win10 from 7.
I simply don't see one.
Win7 work well for me, I know it and I am used to it. Running it cost me zero effort. My fav games run on it great and there is no single game that run on Win10 only that i really want to try. So why I should switch?
And some people will bitch about anything.

I'd just like to interject for a moment, Bill. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

>>

I'd say so since the game that's being remastered is amazing and the updated controls etc are very nice. Modders who have early access say this is the most moddable Total War entry by far- it's the same versatile text-based modding as the original plus faction and settlement limits have been lifted. If enough people buy this and Med 2 gets the same treatment that would be pretty incredible.

>>559284
Post-release support was already confirmed a while back. The best part is this project is not being handled by the incompetent Jews at nu-CA; Feral Interactive seem to be genuine fans of this title and this comes off as a passion project of theirs. They have been incredibly receptive to feedback during the early release/beta phase, quick to add lots of little toggles and fixing issues reported by the early access people in short order.

the way CA patches their games is that they literally download the update files, make a full copy of the previous version, then apply the patch to the new copied version and delete the old one on your drive
that means for each and every update, no matter the size of the actual new patch, be it 50mb or 2gb, your game will do this and it will require you to have that extra space of the whole game's file size or it won't patch
doing this on a HDD is also going to take more than an hour for any update, regardless of your download speed and it definitely requires an SSD, where you need to keep double the free space if an update occurs

you have obviously never played a modern CA game and dealt with their retarded update process

though...if you have a 4K monitor for muh top-of-the-line 4K gaming, shouldn't you already have a pretty capacious SSD by now? I don't know what the monitors cost, but sizable SSDs have been pretty cheap for some time

>the AI disbands troops when it goes even slightly in debt
>this happens in the base game as well as Alex and Barb Invasion
> the Persians disband their entire empire full of troops on turn 1 because of upkeep so your fighting nothing but half and quarter stacks across the empire the whole campaign
>the barbarian hordes that spawn in BI disband almost all their horde units the turn after they form, because they have no settlements or income making them no threat at all

Bravo gook mobile devs, another great example of amazing QA and faithful recreation of the original series. This has to be a bug right? they cant be that incompetent r-right guys
>>
>>561385
>gook mobile devs
Feral Interactive are a bunch of Bongs
>>
>>561385
>AI disbanding troops and fielding a bunch of individual small stacks instead
That does sound completely faithful to the original RTW. That's actually the exact reason CA eventually went for the army-requires-a-general mechanic later in the series.
>>
>>561419
in vanilla campaign i agree, but the large horde stacks of BI and pre spawned persian armies of Alex are the only challenge in those campaigns, and are crippled immensely by not restricting the new AI behavior to the imperial campaign
>>
>>561438
Sounds like something that needs to be patched if true. I haven't seen that reported anywhere though, are you sure that's what's going on? If it's still in the game at launch I'll just play with the AI improvement toggle off for those campaigns until Feral addresses it. They've been good about fixing stuff found by streamers etc pretty quickly after the issues are discovered.
>>
>>561466
i watched a stream yesterday of Alex campaign and it was pretty clear what was happening, with stacks vanishing over end turns and the faction ranking lists showing the army ranking plummeting

I didn't know you could toggle that though, that's a big relief
>>
>>561484
You can toggle pretty much every gameplay change the Remaster introduced, it's quite nice. Still, if that disbanding thing is true, it needs to be brought up so Feral can fix it. The campaign AI has been improved in some pretty important other ways like being inclined to actually launch naval invasions and I'd rather have all of the improvements without having to deal with mass disbanding.
>>
>>561490
even if they just removed the feature for the dlc's as a hotfix that would solve it, its not an issue in the imperial campaign as no one starts with massive pre-made stacks
>>
Just make gamestart AI faction doomstacks pay reduced maintenance so that they won't disband them right away.

kek have you never played the older games? its funny because thats EXACTLY what happened. they included a few touchups mostly balancing, they didnt overhaul the AI.
>>
>>561627
I can't wait for the deluge of people claiming that they made certain aspects of gameplay worse than the original only for people to comb through the files and reveal they've been been completely untouched and they've always been that way. >>
>>561721
Same tbhonest, and the news that the remaster is much more moddable was the icing on the cake. I hope this does really well and convinces CA to let Feral give Med 2 the same treatment. It may already be in the works given that Feral has made some cheeky references to the time period as of late and the fact that they added the Merchant agent into Rome Remastered may indicate that they've been working with the Med 2 engine in some capacity.

>>561724
>MASSIVE if true.
It's 100% confirmed. And some early access people who have experience with modding the game have said that the remaster has unlocked a massive amount of potential in this regard.
>>
>>559925

"Modding - Engine Limits
=================
Raising the limits can be complex to implement, and require significant code changes.

As per the earlier AMA, the limits on Factions and Regions will be raised. Below is a list of the most popular requests and the current plans for them.

These features will initially be introduced in beta releases designed for modders. And will be included in official updates once they are confirmed as functioning properly.

We have been working on these limitations and have already made significant progress on both these items:

Factions
Original:21
Remastered:31

Faction limits will be increased from 21 to 31 factions. This matches the maximum number of factions that Medieval 2 supported and is the limit of the existing game engine. This change affects a number of areas of the game engine and so will need extensive testing.

Regions
Original:200
Remastered:TBD*

The region limits will be increased from 200. The exact increase is not yet confirmed, but will be substantial.

Other Limits
There are a number of other limits that have been highlighted by the community. These will be reviewed individually and increased where practical. Some of the most requested are:

Unit Entries (EDU)
Model Entries (DMB)
Buildings (EDB)
Mounts
Religions
Cultures"

is the enhanced graphics pack worth downloading if I don't have a 4k monitor?
>>
Just played the remaster for a bit. Holy fuck they made the pathfinding even WORSE. Units now get stuck trying to move around trees, and skirmishers consistently disobey my orders and don't pull out of melee. Also the UI is ugly as sin, it looks like some shitty f2p mobile game.
Hopefully modders will bring back the old UI quickly but this is a pretty poor showing at launch
>>
>>540224
I mostly played medieval total war with some rome. But weren't all the factions playable as long as you conquer them
>>
>>563031
only half of them were, but you could unlock the rest if you edited the game files
>>
>>563031
You edit a text file to unlock them.
>>
>>562964
It's silly because if you look at the hardware requirements it's all shit dating back all the way to 2013 through 2017. There is no actual reason to lock it behind Win 10 besides either laziness or being bullied by Microsoft.
>>
>>563052
heck
it is not even working properly on win10
you need specific version and it still can fail to launch
>>
>>563022
I care. And I'm on fiber.
There's no reason to bloat ugly 15 year old shit if it brings nothing worthwhile to the table. That's just lazy and leads to other devs feeling absolved of doing the same and then we find our 2TB SSDs too small again and juggling installs over and over. With Steam's garbage transfer too, which is a whole other matter how a fucking digital store company so rich can have servers this shit.
And if you bite the bullet and install it on an HDD, that's just hoarding space gone to waste. Never forget Megaupload and the Pornhub purge.
>>
>>562923
>Year of our Lord two thousand twenty one
>still using windows 7
>>
>>562923
yeah
I remember it too
>>
>>563067
It's the engine. Why do you have resources in .pack files? Because the engine doesn't like any other compression. Med2 packed is 15 GB, unpacked is 20 GB. Throw HD into this. Then throw 4k into this. 70 GB is the result of that.

System requirements are cancer though. There is a huge gap between specs that can run OG Rome flawlessly and minimals for Rome Remastered. Engine is fucking old too, so this shit should be this high. Win10 lock is completely unnecessary.
>>
How do I turn off auto-run?
I know I turned it off in the og version, but I don't remember if I had to mess with the files to do it.
>>
>>563249
Did Rome 1 even have auto-run? I remember it being click once=walk, double-click=run
>>
>>563257
No, it didn't. You still need to get to your enemy, and running during that time will kill your troops' stamina.
>>
>>563257
That's what I remember too but with the remaster having it being set to auto-run I thought I must have had to mess with the files to change it years ago.
>>
>>563259
Well how do I turn it off, this is annoying.
>>
>>563263
You can't. Enjoy your remaster.
>>

>>563257
Nevermind I found it.
You have to in combat, hold the spacebar to bring up the menu and it has the option to set stance defaults (auto-run, auto-guard, ect.)

retard
>>
>>563279
And I forgot to add
Yes, your settings do carry over between battles.
>>
>>562964
No. For some retarded reason they decided that even though the original worked on Win 7, they ought to remove the capability for the Remaster. Supposedly Win 8 doesn't get supported either.
>>
>>563458
>Supposedly Win 8 doesn't get supported either.
Supposedly because nobody actually has Win8 to check.
>>
>>563471
nerd.
>>
>>562892
Where can I find this menu?
>>
New security map mode is interesting. I think it helps with rebel despawning. Also, enemy AI does seem improved by a lot. Now they can get in formation and stick with it instead of reshuffling right while you're charging.
>>
>>563728
when starting a new campaign, press the gear icon to the top right

security map mode?

whats he saying
>>

Saying everything is shit. They didn't change enough (which he would have blasted them if they did anyway). Nitpicks of nitpicks everywhere. Asking stupid questions about controls or settings and even if the chat yells the answer, he refuses to see it.
>>
>>564057
lol of course
>>

Literally saying the game is unplayable because of the camera and he spend 10 minutes trying to find the camera controls in the menu lmao.

SO IS THE GAME WORTH?
>>
>>565787
Depends.
>>
>>565787
depends what you want improved from R1
camera, general QoL, modding support, performance on modern systems - worth it
only play vanilla and have an intel pc that already runs it at 60fps? probably not
>>
>>565787
The game's performance is much better in general and the updated controls are extremely nice. I've put about 6.5 hours in so far and can't see myself going back to the original, which I loved.
>>
>>565787
yes its rome with QoL update which as far as CA is concerned, that is the best we can ask of them. fucking hell i wish they would overcharge us for a med 2 remaster and i never have to touch another shit CA game ever again.

In his many videos where he rants about the state of total war he’ll start randomly going after total war YouTubers past and present. If they’ve ever so much as hinted that they hold right-wing viewpoints, he’ll refer to their politics as “fucking disgusting” etc. He famously had a feud with Legendoftotalwar where he screeched about how he did a video where he formed his units into a swastika, then dogged him in YouTube comments and insisted that he disavow fascism publicly. Volound is the typical Scottish leftist, cannot tolerate right-wing wrong think.
>>
>>567843
Hello Volound, go be a faggot somewhere else.
>>
God I should have installed this on my SSD
>>
>>568343
I'm playing on an HDD, the initial load is pretty long but the rest are about as long as Shogun 2 for me, which isn't too bad. I'm not using the 4k textures though.
>>
>>568343
I spent an hour cleaning my little 128 GB SSD just so I could fit the game on it. The difference in loading times was huge. Quick like in the original.
This is why devs should compress texture and audio files.
>>
>>568356
yeah it's not so bad once you get into the campaign map
>>
>>568392
they didn't want to compress audio files as part of the remaster, the soundtrack does sound much better as a result
