It doesn't matter whether it's mainstream things like Civ, Total War and Paradox, or more obscure games; it doesn't matter if it's simple blobbing, or a curious situation you need advice for. Post 'em.

Returned to TWR2 for a while, trying out the desert kingdoms. So far Saba is pretty similar to eastern factions, weakening the enemy with horse archers before pinning their troops and delivering crushing blows with superheavy cataphracts.
>>
These were the comfirst parts of the old /twg/ threads. @ work right now so no screenshots available but I haven't been able to pick a new campaign to start yet. Any suggestions? I was thinking of the Nabatea to the north of the Saba
>>
>>512467
idk anon, it depends on what you're after. As I said, eastern factions, Nabatea included, are missile-heavy, so expect to manoeuvre a lot of archers around with support from slow but powerful cav. If you're looking for more traditional army comps with a heavy infantry core, Roman and barbarian factions may be more up your alley.

Interesting, I was just getting into TWR2 myself, although this is the first time I've played a Total War game. I've been crushing people as the Seleukids, but I was wondering if any of you more experienced anons have any ideas about unit composition. My current main build at this stage of the game is 2 Hellenic Cataphracts (1 being the general), 2 Azat Knights, 4 Silver Shield Pikemen, 2 Silver Shield Swordsmen, 2 Shield Bearers, 2 Tarantine Cavalry, 4 Syrian Heavy Archers, 1 Greek Ballista and 1 Indian Armored Elephant. It feels like this is working very well but could it be improved? Also, I'm thinking of upgrading the ballistae to onagers or heavy onagers, but not exactly sure how useful they might be. For reference I can currently cause about 150-300 casualties with the ballistae in field battles, and can cause 1-2 breaches in sieges. How would the onagers compare? Also would giant ballistae be any good, even though they're immobile?

currently at war with the tribe in Brittany and Rome
since I only recently conquered Iberia the public order is pretty shit down there, I'm going to focus on taking out the hostile tribe in northern Gaul first and when Iberia is stable enough make a push on the Romans
>>
>>512844
The siege weapons feel samey to me in TWR2. I would get rid of the Elephants and put another Cataphract in. Instead of Tarantine Cavalry do you have any other light cavalry?
>>
>>512844
Damn, that's one diverse army, I'd probably keep it down to 3-4 unit types lol. Siege engines are pretty similar as the other anon mentioned, smaller ones are more accurate but bigger ones hit harder, pick whatever is more important for you. I mostly use scorpions in the field because they're mobile, somewhat cheap, and deliver adequate damage. Siege battles usually get autoresolved since I don't like them.
Consider getting chariots, they're op if you charge them properly, I usually get 100+ kills on each unit.
>>512945
How's the scandinavian dlc? Haven't played since October because everything seemed pretty bland compared to tons of built up content for CK2.

Current situation at the opening stages of the war of the Third Coalition in AGEOD Wars of Napoleon, a PBEM game I'm having with other 5 players.

The current alliances are

Third Coalition:
Great Britain
Russia
Austria
+ AI minors
(Piedmont, Sicily, Georgia, HRE)

Continental Block:
France (me)
Spain
+ AI minors
(Italy, Switzerland, Holland, German States, USA)

Neutrals:
Prussia + AI Saxony (leaning Coalition)
Ottomans

After losing the battle of Trafalgar and shelving plans for an invasion of England, Napoleon tried to secure peace in Europe through diplomatic means. This didn't work out as, not without some hesitation, Austria and Russia decided to join the British in a coalition to take down the French-led continental block.
After having granted the Austro-Russians one last ultimatum, which got unanswered, Napoleon swiftly descended into Austria, storming or besieging the Habsburg fortress cities of Frankfurt, Nuernberg, Innsbruck and Salzburg. While his second in command Marechal Massena, fights the Austrians in Northern Italy leading l'Armée d'Italie, Napoleon himself, at the head of the main corps of la Grande Armée, dashes to Vienna, using the Danube river to cover his right flank.

On 27 July 1805, after a battle involving around 75.000 men, Napoleon defeats the Austrians inflicting severe casualties to their army and forcing them to retreat from Vienna.
Napoleon's rapidity and the allies disorganization allowed the French to defeat the Austrian main host before the Russian expeditionary army could join them.

I was testing a run with these main changes
>tech doesn't increase pop demand
>americas don't get absurd assimilation bonus
>pops in colonies can migrate to other colonies in the same empire
>AI builds more bureaucrats and clergy
I was tired of my pops not even getting everyday needs even under optimal industrial play in vanilla, so I started with a few small tweaks that I might make into a full mod if I think it's fun to play with
>my RGO workers are richfags, even the shitty provinces, RGO workers elsewhere are getting everyday needs
>~80% lit in Spain, ~70% lit in Russia, ~40% lit in Portugal I need to compare this to vanilla numbers
>I was surprised that I wasn't overwhelmed by minorities immigrating. Enough of them got luxury needs that they got the 1% bonus to assimilation that's normally impossible to get

CK2 game as House Capet in the 936 start. I'm planning on cleaning up my external borders, weakening Byzantium to trigger the crusades, then setting up an independent crusader kingdom to play as while watching to see if the main dynasty can maintain the French Empire.
Hopefully the late-game leaves an interesting enough setting for an EUIV conversion - I'd like to make Francia function like the HRE does if that happens.

It's true that the AI is pretty mediocre, I think that what really penalizes AGEODs is singleplayer. It really shines when played with a bunch of others though.

As for your question it depends if you've ever played AGEOD before. In any case half of the players in our current campaign are more or less total newbies to AGEOD and yet they're still handling it rather well.

To reach the number of players I asked a bit to Discord friends, then I tried posting on /vst/ (but nobody picked up the challenge and finally we've found someone on the Steam page of the game.
If you're looking to join this maybe we could arrange something, you see we've recently found out a mod that unlocks all minor Countries which we use to command our minor allies to give the AI fewer chances to fuck things up; maybe you could take one of the neutral minors not played by anyone like Sweden, the only downside is that since it's a minor it has no special events like the formerly playable Nations have although you'd probably be in for a showdown with Russia.

>Instead of Tarantine Cavalry do you have any other light cavalry?
I have access to camels and the generic "light cavalry." but it seems like that's it. Are tarantines that bad? I've mainly been using them as a sort of pseudo-horse-archer unit for skirmishing and warding off enemy cav, and as a faster cav unit for chasing down enemy missile infantry.

>>512990
Yeah, maybe I'm taking the "combined arms" approach a bit too literally, but I feel like each unit has a sort of purpose that can't be filled in quite as well by any others, although I might get rid of the azats since I can't seem to find a good place for them outside of dealing with enemy melee cavalry. What should I keep/replace? Do I trade in the azats for chariots?

I know this feel. I did an LME campaign as Russia and had enormous regiment sized units. It worked... But when I got to Berlin after France and I had partitioned Prussia and came to blows, well.

The battle of Berlin had 6 stacks around it, and that meant 55-60k men had to get into fights. They broke my machine and I gave up.

Try "losing" and then defeating the significantly weaker enemy by autoresolve. idk what else to suggest.

If this composition works for you, there isn't really any reason to adjust it. But yeah, try trading something in an "experimental" army for chariots and see if it's more effective.

Basically it's the son thinking he's a better commander than his dad so he's going to turn around and usurp the throne.
I've heard that ranking up your daimyo (in terms of general level) will help put a clamp on that, as the 'delusions of grandeur' modifier is based on the difference between general/son rank and daimyo rank.
Researching techs or making vassals to increase daimyo honor also helps, as that provides a loyalty bonus for generals when it's high enough (IIRC, 4-5 and above).

It's a 7 Civ game, but I can only see Celtia until I get Caravels. I eclipsed them in technology quickly, so I stopped trading with them early on and occasionally burned down their cities like normal vikings would.
Unfortunately I took control of a city because I needed my units to heal at one point, and that caused the Finns to appear, so I had to give back the Celt's capital to lower my sepratism score.
I think I also became in first place while burning down cities and building wonders, which also increases your sepratism modifier.

Defending from the top of a hill. Fatigue heavily affects units' combat ability and morale in RTW, so while all my hastatii were fresh and eager the Gauls were starting combat wavering from pilum barrages and walking uphill, which also blunted charge attacks.

At the same time I also used my general to tie up the swordsmen, who can go impetuous and ignore morale, which would have routed my weakened units quickly. After leading them far enough away it only took a few cavalry charges to break down the main army and send them on a mass route, which is where the majority of kills come from in order to ensure the army is destroyed rather than forced to retreat.
