Castle building was really comfy, the tech trees were interesting as in you could choose mid-game what faction you want to play, The AI was kinda meh tho, and pathfinding was weird. I still play it sometimes out of nostalgia. Too bad it will never get a remaster with better AI/performance.

Old belarusian turn based strategy game from 2003, where you also conquer other territories and In general try to gain map control. The AI is also neat, instead of aggressively pushing everything, I had a situation where I was waiting for enemy units in neighbour territory to make a move, but instead it turned into both me and AI
skipping turns, because the AI was doing the exact same thing.

What happened when the guy who did empire earth tried to just focus on the main eras people played anyway and somehow it ended up being a weird gimmicky mess
>>
>>168470
I thought the AI was quite good. Compared to most other rts games it never cheats so you can actually use tactics like raiding to win. The only complaint I have is that it struggles in mobilising the huge army necessary for a siege to destroy your manor.
>>
>>170337
I think the problem is much less evident in the original Warrior Kings compared to Battles because the campaign missions are designed in a smart way that hides the AI shortcomings. Also the game is really really slow and the maps are very big so skirmishes against a single AI enemy are really underwhelming. The campaign is the best part of the game

I saw first Submarine Titans in a previous "games only you played" thread, so I guess that means more than one of us played it, but I just think it's such a novel setting for a game with a cool setting/story that I can forgive the fairly "clunky" gameplay.

I think there's a good game in there somewhere and would just need to be tweaked a little big to really get it out.

I played it when it came out so I might be mis remembering some facts but it's kind of a cross between StarCraft and WarCraft III in a fantasy setting.
The regular units seem copied from StarCraft (I remember a clone of the reaver in the dark faction for example) and the hero-mechanic isn't as big as in WarCraft III - although heroes are still unbalanced as fuck.
I think the human faction had a permanent flying dragon as a summon (with casters that could channel mana to other units)

I don't think the series doesn't share the same setting & story mind you.
The information that Two Worlds used to be a sequel to Polanie is also new to me. It's kinda funny how the series progressed. First game is rts, Polanie 2(also know as KnightShift and Once Upon A Knight outside of Poland) is a rts/rpg hybrid and "Polanie 3" is a full blown rpg.

One of best games Russia ever produced, Aллoды (aka "Rage of Mages" in the West)
It starts off as an isometric RPG, then becomes squad-based RPG, but as you get more gold you can hire more mercenaries, so in the end it becomes bona-fide RTS, where you can field infantry, cavalry, archers, catapults, etc.

Shop and creature portrait design is great, music is good.

That would mean the rest are just shit (which is not true) because in this one everything gets steadily stronger as you get stronger. This game fully embraced endless, pointless, depressing grinding before MMOs.

Everybody and their mother at least heard about perimeter. Fun game if you can get over the janky. God, taking over huge chunks of enemy base was so satisfying, I dont remember any other rpg that makes you feel like mechanical space cancer.

For most part it was a shit game, mostly aimed at kids. I did love the idea of taking perspective of tiny aliens the size of rats. Seeing how they build their buildings out of cans and random junk. Extremely rough around the edges, if I remember it was even missing proper animations, so during combat the units would just take a battle stance and stand still in front of each other till they drop.

I have it on steam and still play it on occasion
The AI is suprisingly clever, I have seen it do diversionary movements, prod my defenses for weaknesses and launch well thought out counter-offensives.
But it is bad at unit build priorities and movement
Transports (both land and sea) have allowed me to do amazing offensives, and tanks make for a great first line, supported by ranged units of course
They do often however see the immense value of bombers, although putting them to good use is different
That said, those more difficult scenarios are fucking brutal man, some of which I still have never won
>>
>>171722
I had the demo but not the full version of that. I really liked it because all the unit data and menus were stored as ini files so I could make the Federation units (the only playable faction in the demo) godlike. There were also a few hidden levels in the demo that you couldn't normally access but weren't actually cut out that you could add to the mission screen by hand to play.

The way all units gain XP, can become named heroes and carry over campaign maps is a neat addition.

Speaking of, I do remember what I could explain as "Warcraft 3 clone before Warcraft 3".
It was a fantasy RTS with 3 factions (human dudes, orcs and some beasts, and woodland dudes) almost all the units were capable of leveling and did possess an inventory, and even skirmish maps had neutral monsters to defeat and such.
You could make "heroes" out of normal units by giving them a name and you could save and import them to other maps.

I loved warfront. My favorite tactic was Soviet T-34+freeze tanks combo.
>>
>>192195
I've played it for quite a bit, but very casually so i never had any idea about any community drama.
The game was F2P, but there were level caps you could only overcome by special events available only for paying players. So while first few years the game was relatively fair, as time went on the f2p players were at bigger and bigger disadvantage.

Also while it marketed itself as "MMORTS", i dont think i'd count 20v20 room battles with hot swapping as true MMORTS.

Another important observation is that while technically you could always deploy a mixed army, everyone always deployed monospam of just one unit. And it makes sense - there is no need for specialisation between units in player's army when instead you have specialization between different players. But that naturally leads to a question - why have a game where you control 20 of same unit if instead you can just control 1 unit. Call it a hero or something, give it abilities so the game doesnt feel dull, add some NPC units to kill...you can guess where i'm going with this.

Shattered galaxy truly was one of the first Pre-DOTA MOBAs, and it saddens me that no other newer MOBA picked up the 20v20 format and instead stuck so hard with 5v5.

I never played the first game. Sequel was a gift. I assumed the first was similar to the second.
>>
>>195234
The first is amazing. Base mechanics are the same. Turn based strategy map with real time battles, but it's much more open. There's a 4 way morality system. Pagan-Christian and Good-Evil. And where you sit in that determines what units and abilities you get. If you go Pagan route you set your capital up in Wales and Christian in London. There's all these choose your own adventure quests based on Athurian legends that determine what heroes you get. Like you might help the green knight or Tristan.
>>
>>195335
Does it run better than the sequel? That's what really killed it for me. I had to auto resolve everything and quit when I had to play a map.

Togglable structure auto-repair, togglable infantry commander idle AoE heal for nearby infantry (essentially for infantry in formation with him) are the ones I miss the most. Mobile (deployable) teleport pads had an appearance or two I think, but that's also pretty rare. Energy supply coverage expansion via cheap and fragile transmitters could also benefit from appearing more often.
The way they did asymmetry in general wasn't the best, however. That might have been one of the key factors that have contributed to the game's downfall.

Yes, it's the same on all OS I've tried, even with virtual machine. The game just crashes after a certain mission. Help me find an RTS from my childhood
It was a classic isometric rts, full early 2000's 3d I think, high fantasy setting
You were mostly supposed to have smaller unit squads, no massive armies. Heroes were integral to the gameplay, and an important part was going to farm dungeons for gold and xp, dungeons were on a subterranean map, below the main one (like in homm3)
Overall the game gave strong Spellforce and WC3 vibes
The name had something to do with dragons I think, Drakengard and Drakensang keep popping up in my head, but those are not it.

creeper world 3 is amazing but it needs some breakthrough in game design. The start of missions is always a great fight against the tide but once you are stabilized you cant really lose anymore and just have to slowly conquer the map. It needs something to improve the formula and keep it interesting in the 2nd half of a mission.

it vexes me to no end that they won't localize ports of games that they have already localized for other platforms. Is there any news about the Switch port of 14? I'd rather have 13 or Sphere of Ambition, but since they already made Vita and Switch ports for JP years ago it sure seems like that boat has long sailed

do they really think that genre fans in the West won't buy portable ports? They already basically buy their games twice what with the fucking PUKs, and there's really no competition out there for this style of game...I guess that's the real tragedy

I haven't touched this since the Highlanders update, how's the automanage function work? I really want to love Cossacks but the micro tedium kind of detracts form where the series has clear strengths
>>
>>214532
No clue, I only use the bare minimum : techs suggestions. I think you can automate research and, to a lesser degree, training, but I never used it.
>>
>>214534
The minimum I would want is a function to just queue a squad's worth of units, to expand it a size up, or to replenish it to full complement. It still kind baffles me that the Magic Numbers don't even seem to be available info within the game, I have to google it and put a Post-It on my computer. Not that this is a big deal, but I feel like it's bad design for a game that in so many ways is just beautiful.

For instance. The sounds of muskets cracking and mortars lobbing is fucking lovely in C3.
>>
>>214544
>to replenish it to full complement
You can already do that. I mean, you need units available near.Unless you mean train only the minimum needed.

And yes to the rest, you're right. There are a couple of missing features, and testing how many units you need for a cavalry formation can be annoying.
Death screams are shit, though, so I replaced them with Metal Slug ones.
>>
>>214550
>You can already do that. I mean, you need units available near.
Right, so I need to keep reserves around. Good point. But yeah what I mean is a function to train the requisite number. If I'm playing it wrong by not producing reserves then maybe I should suck it up.

>I replaced them with Metal Slug ones.
You're a cool dude.
>>
>>214561
I dunno, Cossacks 3 simplified a lot of stuff, I'm genuinely confused that they didn't leave the unit info panel somewhere.

>You're a cool dude.
I wanted to use some Super Mario ones too, but whatever codecs Cossacks 3 use don't agree with them, and it sounds like >>>/wsg/3611048 (VERY LOUD)
And also, checking file integrity removes them, so I'm not sure how to mark them as a mod to not be deleted. I'd like to put them on the workshop eventually.

Troubleshooters:abandoned children.

It's an anime styled xcom clone with an rpg stat system, a massive mix and match passive system, diablo style loot, crafting, monster taming and a decent storyline thats easily about 100+ hours long.

Single battles can take hours to win because it's your squad of 4 (with police backup in a lot of missions) vs 80+ enemies.

Also has MMO style lobby areas where you can walk around and chat to other players whilst your gearing up/crafting/getting side missions.

Highly reccommended
