>hey guys we have a new DLC>it's called colossus of the south!Bit weird, glorifying the Confederacy like that, don't you think people would object to->it's about South America! So Brazil and Argentina?>no! The Amazon!>And Christ the Redeemer is in it! That thing that was built in 1931!So, for the Victorian game, we have a flavour pack for France and we're getting one for a part of the world no-one knows exists? A part of the world that's still economically unviable to expand into, nearly 100 years after the game's end date? A part of the world that's surrounded by places that have unreliable and unwritten history?Where is the Prussian dominance and German unification expansion?Where is the Italian unification expansion?Where is the US civil war expansion, their Atlantic-Pacific railway, their industrial monopolies, their wank-yourself-into-a-coma written history?Where are the revisionist history reddit tier Soviet and Communist China revolutionary expansions?... Where is the Victorian Britain expansion? The Dickensian workhouses? The creation of the black country? The multifaceted expansion into Africa with the attempts to destroy the slave trade by moralistic Christians fighting the system that wasn't as simple as fighting a war or owning the province? The Boer war? None of this is unique to Britain, it just doesn't exist in the game. I don't even know why people want children to stay out of the factories, even feminism seems to be prompted by an event instead of a reason, to the point where if genocide was added it'd seem as inconsequential a reform as those two.

>>1584967>UK and France had the open borders law by 1870The issue here is not what, and larger than, you think - most countries had de facto open borders during this period. Thing is a bunch of african villagers had no means of actually coming to Europe. The design of the whole system is wrong, top to bottom. That goes for basically every system in the game.
>>1585367shut up chud, african immigrants have been an integral part of English history since forever
If we ever get a game focused on the civil war. It should allow you to go full final solution if you win the civil war as the north. Kill all the slave holders, give their land to blacks, wipe out dixie culture. Would be kino.
>>1584906>It's one of the most boring and uninteresting regions irl Not really, no. That would be north America and Oceania.
>>1585367>Thing is a bunch of african villagers had no means of actually coming to Europe. The design of the whole system is wrong, top to bottom. That goes for basically every system in the game. What they should have is some kind of number that represents how integrated a place is with the world economy, based on infrastructure and terrain, which would also track how easy it is for pops to move in and out of a place. Call it something like "market access" and have it impact the price of goods in a place too
>>1585367>most countries had de facto open borders during this periodIs that because there wasn't enough immigration to worry about it, or to create some kind of apparatus regulating it? I have a hard time believing any of the European countries of the period would let colonials pour into their heartlands to the point that they are a quarter of the population, but I guess you never know.

>>1592820Depends on the country, actually.
Why did they fill this game up with so many retarded design choices like why do pops need to be accepted to assimilate that just makes assimilation pointless
>>1592534According to the wiki you can reduce tech "spillover" by up to 75%, but if you're playing a normal nation then it's 50%, and if you don't want your country to collapse because your rural folk are both your largest party and upset, then it's 40%.This includes using censorship laws, of which the strongest one is unlocked after you get all bar 1 agitator and standard of living expectation. I can tell because I'm looking at my tech tree right now and the SI SI SI SI reform is unlocked 1 from the bottom.According to the formula said "spillover", which is only a part of the passive researching, can simply be turned off by reducing your universities to as many as your research cap can make use of... suddenly censorship doesn't matter if there aren't an arbitrary number of schools for manchildren quoting Socratic dialogues. And whilst not forthcoming as to what the formula means, it claims literacy has a bigger impact, so a country of half decent literacy (which you should have to "win" in this game) will simply learn all the "bad" technologies.Furthermore as I just pointed out, the outlawed dissent reform is stuck at the bottom of the only tree of "bad" technologies. I can look 5 inches to the left and read Human Rights and Feminism, neither of which make your pops angry or expectant of better living conditions. Why?There is also the concern that +1 minimum expectations and +1 agitator is actually good... because it lets you reform the government.>laws mean nothing>just change how the buildings work instead>everything comes down to pops, not government>you don't even have a reason to tech lessUgh, feels hollow realising that.>>1592820>How the fuck did they manage kill the frogs then? Did the frogs just surrender and/or killed themselves?Just because modern Parisians are African doesn't mean the ones we are talking about are.
>>1593384Good. Fuck Great Man History shit. There should be no such thing as bad technological progress. Only bad governance.
/vst/fags understand this site isn't white-exclusive anymore, right?
>>1593392Then why is this developer-written wiki implying there's an in game reason to stifle technological progress?Even the cost of technologies goes down if you research everything from the previous tier. Did the devs forget to add game mechanics?>>1593082Victoria II was the same.If you could turn off migration, nationalist parties would retain the diversity of their empire and multicultural parties would slowly assimilate all their pops. Russification only happened in the game's simulation because of emigration to the new world, your pops moving for jobs in the outer reaches of your empire and pops moving to jobs in provinces that isn't cored by their nation, such as your heavily industrialised capital. It's strange to think how Americans talk about the protestant-catholic split in their country, how the Anglos, the Italians, and whoever else hated each other. And how the Germans never integrated until German was an unaccepted pop in WWI/II. And yet everyone becomes Yankee/Dixie inside 2 days in game, and even those two groups are window dressing.Though Paradox decided only blacks couldn't assimilate under any circumstance, for some reason. Which is as odd as everyone becoming a certain race just because your country's tag is X in Victoria 3.
>>1593400>The introduction of new inventions and ideas can also act as a catalyst for emerging situations in the country, with certain parts of the populace demanding these new developments be adopted or shunned.I forgot that techs also fire events. Which often give radicals and/or interest group boosties.>Trade Unions Attractions>Final weight multiplied by: x0.5 if not Egalitarianism>x0.5 if not Labor MovementBut "exactly what was intended" isn't referring to tech spread being bad, but the bonuses to bolstering and suppression of interest groups.
>>1593404>techs also fire eventsI'd like to see which to know if it matters. I know things like nihilism just rewards you if you run out the clock. I can't remember if the feminist agitator actually makes things difficult for you.>Trade Unions>Egalitarian>Labor MovementTech tree requires those to get to the harshest censorship law.I forgot that censorship lets you banish people, and makes bolstering/suppressing IGs much better, which helps. I'm probably doing a disservice if I don't admit that.
>>1593414Oh, whoops, thought Dyeworks was triggered by a tech, but it can actually fire anywhere you have a Textile Mill. So, yes, technology, but not directly. The same probably goes for society techs enabling leader traits that can spawn. But the biggest issue are the fucking IG petitions for laws you have no intention of passing.

>>1593400>Victoria II was the same.Half of V3 is just a more convoluted way of recreating all the same deficiencies that V2 had. They have the barebones in the game to make a much more interesting system than a binary accepted culture yes/no. They already track political power per nationality, plus things like cultural traits could make a much more granular system for how accepted a culture is and how happy they are in any particular polity. Cultural traits are a particular bit of wasted potential because the logic that sharing a single trait with a primary culture makes you accepted under certain laws severely limits what they can do with them
>>1593437>But the biggest issue are the fucking IG petitions for laws you have no intention of passing. Can you prevent a reform from passing in bad faith?I've never failed one... I just cancel it. And very few of them are undesirable.

I kind of like Victoria 3. But every patch is so fucking disappointing. Do they have 2 actual programmers doing the actual work while the rest writes events or what
>>1600109Just might be the case, since Paradox is a team of ~150 supporting FIVE games at once.
I'm the USA. I established interest in the Kongo. I researched Quinine. Why can't I colonize Africa?
>move my armies to front and stop paying attention to war because you can't do anything>at some point my armies just decided to pack up and go back to their hqs and let the enemy steam roll back into their territory and into my country What a great and well thought out system. this has happened multiple times now
>>1600804>ignores the war>loses war>this is somehow the games fault
>>15921251) Properly equip your army, by either importing, or making your own guns for it2) Kick Egypt back to Africa3) In the meantime, establish professional army, abolish serfdom, implement tax reform and change your administration model from hereditary to whatever (I suggest appointed)4) Either heavily expand your economy for the urbanisation (tough) or implement education reform and increase literacy by 20% (doable, but gets tough if you postpone abolishing serfdom)Depending on variables, Tanzimat reforms can be pulled within 15-19 years. AI routinely fails to retake Syria and Middle East (either not trying, or not grabbing all of it, even if it can do so in a single war). A fast way to pull this shit is getting it below a decade, but that means you went for heavy construction, rather than education, and it can easily bankrupt you instead of fixing shit if law passing was particularly unlucky
>>1600374I know it's a stupid question to ask, but what's your colonial policy? There is an off-chance that after you colonised all of the Mid West, you removed colonial expansion from your laws. Also, it takes a month for the interest to "sink" and be truly active. And keep in mind that you don't NEED quinine to establish colony. You just get a debuff to the speed of it, but it is entirely ignorable if this is your only colony and you have decent population in your country. China is the best example of how borked the colonial system is: since it scales with population and number of colonies established in the same time, you can easily ignore the double malaria debuff, because you will be still pushing at a pace of 120 days/tick, without any tech whatsoever. Nigerian oil and rubber were never easier for the grabs.
>>1600809You're right. I should have been paying attention to their dogshit system where you do nothing after clicking two buttons since I should have know that instead of continuing to fight the hundreds of thousands of men in the German army plowing through Russia would just one day abandon the entire front and decide to go home
>>1600903I still have frontier colonization and my interest was established many months ago.
>free weekend!Oh cool, how about I take a few hours and see how the game has improved>play texas>you can never win and capture Santa Anna>look up if I'm fucking something up>no it's a known bugThis passing beta has given me the most crystalized Paradox experience ever. Like five minutes in and my desired country's playthrough is just not possible. Is there a single programmer who lives in a municipality with indoor plumbing?
>>1601003>texasIt's a game about victorian century, not about some third world shitholes. I wish instead of wasting resources on americas and africa, Paradox would focus on the area that really mattered in the time period - Europe.
>>1601095Isn't the entire point that the big boys with the big pops can freeball it, while it is the weaker powers that need railroading?
>>1600809Not a war game chud, you're supposed to be focusing on the economy
>free states can secede to fight to preserve slavery... because they just CAN OKAY???
>>1601095I mean, sure. You're not wrong. My immediate uninstall wasn't because "woe is me, death to the Swedes who besmirched Texas," but it's a profoundly easy to reproduce bug for one of the game's major powers. Sure, I can't simulate child chimneysweeps dying of black lung at 14 years old, but it's their definition of major power, not mine. If a patch to Starcraft created a new bug that made playing one of the three factions flawed within moments of starting the game, I wouldn't be upset because I love zerg, I'd be upset because ten minutes of effort could reproduce it. It shows a massive amount of laze and a lack of expertise.
I gotta say, the performance issues I used to have where panning the camera across Europe in mid to late game would absolutely murder my FPS seem to have been resolved. Sure it will probably start to chug eventually due to the sheer volume of pops but at least now it's playable.
>>1601111Through your sheer force of reason I am obligated to apologise for the low effort trolling, anon. I agree with everything you have wrote, fuck their absolutely sub-standard releases.
>it's another "retard war between Austria and Prussia where neither side is strong enough to advance so they both sit at 0 war support for years until they white peace" episodeThis has happened like 4 times already and it's only 1870.
>>1601108The land owners will secceed from the government if they start a revolution. (Over anything really not just Slavery.)Early and unindustrialized US is mostly land owners at the start. So of course they all secceede if you let it happen. This isn't a problem with the game it's just how the basic mechanics work.
>>1601163>>1601108They need to bring back the free/slave state distinction that Vicky 2 had. Hard-coding the potential states of the civil war is the only way to avoid ahistorical situations like anon's pic
Man I was thinking I was doing poorly for 1873 since my average SoL was so low. And then I clicked on the SoL map and it turned out that even the poorest Irishman has it better than most of France.
>>1601140It's better than "Prussia goes sicko mode on Europe every few years" we had before. But Skirmish infantry needs to be buffed versus Line Infantry.
>>1601108Why wouldn't free states fight the preserve states' rights?
>>1601170>avoid ahistorical situationsThis isn't Hoi4 where the game is covering a very specific part of history over a short period. Victoria 3 covers almost 100 years of history where a lot can change in that time. Especially with the player mucking about.I do kind of agree with your point on the civil war in relation to slavery, but the game shouldn't railroad you into explicit and exact scenarios just for the sake of being historical.
>>1601491NTA but the causes of the civil war had been in motion way before the game has started, no way that Massachusetts, or Pennsylvania would become economically dependent on slavery in ~30 years before the civil war starts.
>>1601621>no way that Massachusetts, or Pennsylvania would become economically dependent on slaveryThen make up another reason: widely spread idea that negros are subhuman and should not be allowed to spread outside the areas they are held.History and politics is wild and random irl at times, and there is zero reason to make Vic3 railroaded because you can't expand your imagination outside of what we know already happened irl.
>>1601140Yeah but this is better than having troops move on the map. Bro trust me bro this is way better, it fixes so many AI problems. The AI handles this so much better bro and it's way easier to control. Please play our free weekend please they're going to reassign me to write fart jokes in CK3 if this game tanks, please bro.
>>1601651I'm not saying make it railroaded, I just wish they'd implement the free state and slave state system from vicky 2
What are some interesting things to do as the UK?Ideas:1. retake the thirteen colonies 2. ???
Just started this game. Are there any good resources to learn this game? What to research first, build order, how to min max economy?
>>1601764nothing, who the fuck plays UK in victoria lmao
>>1601844There is literally a tutorial to select when you start the game
>>1601862>the country of the ruler the game is named after is boring to play asgrim
>>1601885You'll just steamroll everything so what's the point? You can field bigger armies than france and prussia and expand all around the globe due to better colonies and strong navy.
>>1601885It's going to require a Concert of Europe mechanic where you are forced to maintain the balance of power or your game just ends.
>>1601949Doesn't make sense, from any perspective.
>>1602053It's called... uh, *checks notes* gameplay challenge.
>>1601764There's no actual reason to play as the UK. You're already on the top of the food chain since the start of the game. You can larp as irl GB and try to prevent one retard in Europe from getting more powerful than rest of the retards I guess.
>>1601844>build construction companies >deficit spend building the most expensive shit on the market for as long as possible >make some agriculture buildings too I guess, it lifts people out of poverty >go dab on China for war reps once you can no longer deficit spend>shit on conservative parties because being a socialist/liberal is 100% better at all times>rinse and repeat
>>1602209Why noy try and go even further than what irl Britain did?
>>1602210>>shit on conservative parties because being a socialist/liberal is 100% better at all timesJust like irl. Minus the socialist part.
Does bringing back the slave trade do anything?
>>1602229Yes, it brings back the slave trade.
>goddamn, playing outside Europe is painful>you depend on missing tech so goddamn much>Tier 1 is basically mandatory for existing normally>manage to pass Homesteading by trading it with Local Police Force>manage to get Appointed Bureaucrats>still have Autocracy, Monarchy and Slave trade to go>Landlords not very happy>they petition to get Tenant FarmersYup. Time to start a civil war. Where's my Drowning Pool Pepe pic?
>socialists threaten civil war over presidential republic >vote for it >conservativefags throw a fit as well and rebel >they call in russia for help, I call in prussia >set all my commanders to defend and just sit in London >even though they have a 2 to 1 advantage and the frontline bubble got to -40 nothing is actually happening >rebels can't lower my war support below 0 because they can't take the war goal >unpause the game and go grab some water since I can't do anything anyway>come back, London is still mine and rebels are about to capitulate>apparently 2 million people died Loving this warfare system bros, it's so engaging.
Why is Prussia so fucking retarded? They literally cannot do anything. It's 1891 and their greatest achievement is becoming the protectorate of Hanover.
>>1602275Because they have a decent chance to get their ass kicked early by France, in this case because they got double teamed by them and Russia
I'm so autistic that the game in its current state is unplayable for me because there is no trade ships sailing on the sealanes on the map.
>>1602275Because it was extremely unlikely for the events surrounding the German unification to have happened as they did and it required several major foreign policy blunders Napoleon III and several major leaps of faith from Bismarck. Thus, it's unlikely Prussia does it in-game unless it's railroaded into it.
>>1602275It's actually because Prussia has an awful AI strategy
I still dont understand one thing - if you are a protectorate under someone, how and why are you allowed to export goods from the market which you arent a producer of? Does your sovereign get a cut, how does it even work?As Serbia for example, I can often export silk, fabric and tea from the Ottoman market and generate hefty profits
>>1602233I meant what affect it has in game smartass.
>>1602337States will periodically import slave pops from uncentralized African countries in accordance to the defines file. Slave pops will appear and will take jobs in raw resource facilities and primarly substience farms.Which is policy of having and trading slaves.
>>1601949Except German unification was exactly what broke the balance of power in Europe irl.>Britain is boringYou could always oh I don't know go ahistorical. Maybe cause turmoil that breaks up the UK?Perhaps prop up and protect Afrcian Nations instead of conquering them?Maybe go farther than irl Britain and colonize China?Maybe align with Prussia or Russia as opposed to France when the time comes?Just because you're the strongest nation doesn't mean you can't have fun.
>>1601003>>you can never win and capture Santa AnnaSo you didn't actually play the game despite a free weekend.
>>1600962Bug, then? There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to colonise, as long as there is at least a tiny sliver of unoccupied land by other colonial powers and you have an established interest there.
>>1601761Nta, but the confusing part for me is that the game has legacy slavery as a law, existing solely so the US can have that setting... and they forgot to write mechanics around it. Literally ALL it takes is a state modifier, existing only with legacy slavery setting, and they didn't do it.Then again, having New Hampshire as the only seceding state and crushing them within a week was kind of hilarious.
>>1602361>painting a colouring book>funVictoria 2 nigs out. You already ruined EU4, you can't have this, too.
>>1602390>and they forgot to write mechanics around it.But it works how it should work. No new slaves are imported. What kind of special mechanics would you want with legacy slavery lol
Does no migration controls allow people to come into your country even if you are in Europe?
>can't see the civilian ships sailing the seasLooking at the empty void that is sea is depressing. It most likely is a super easy fix too, hire more competenent people Parapox.
Piratinibros how are we doing
>>1593437Anon getting petitioned to pass laws you don't want is literally the point of the mechanic, before they added it you could just have aristocrats in government the whole game and not care and continue passing progressive legislation. Now they actually have goals to pursue and demands to make.
>>1601651>Then make up another reason: widely spread idea that negros are subhuman and should not be allowed to spread outside the areas they are held. Most of the northerners literally did believe that and still chose to fight for the Union. The civil war and its setup was already long since set into motion by the time Vicky starts and outside of some specific things like whether or not the border states secede or how much slavery is allowed to expand west it shouldn't change at all. The US shouldn't be able to peacefully ban slavery nor should northern states be joining the Confederacy. And you certainly shouldn't have northern states joining while fucking Louisiana, Florida, and other Southern states stay in the union. You said Vicky shouldn't be like HoI4 earlier but representing the civil war this way is unironically more comparable to HoI4 "alt-history" paths where you can click a few buttons and suddenly restore Willy to the throne and reform the HRE. It's equally as absurd.
>>1602424The point is about how ACW doesn't properly align states due to missing modifer, not how legacy slavery works as a slave policy.
>>1602518I know. I am deliberately starting civil wars now. Fuck Landlords.
Is importing/exporting a meme? Every time I open the menu no market can accept any goods in a meaningful numbers.Wow I can at best export 10 grain and import 10 bullets... When I have 10k grain in stock and a 1k shortage of bullets... Amazing...
>>1602694What a dumb post
>>1602694it is a giant meme because there are mechanics in place to maintain the equilibrium of buy and sell ordersreminder that (((Wiz))) shilled how you can lead actual trade wars by crashing markets via exports of cheap goods - none of that is in the gameon that note, I still remember when paracuck trannies shilled how you can encircle enemy armies in the war LMAO, as if there was any complexity beyond the 3 button bs
Is the game worth getting at half price? What would be the best starting country?
>>1602801Wait till release of Sphere of Influence, it will be the last moment the game can redeem itself.
Took you long enough Italy, meanwhile i never managed to conquer jackshit because Austria and the Ottomans were relatively strong and often supporting each other
>>1602805Yeah that probably would be the best idea.
>>1602806Now its the time
>>1602919Most of their troops were busy in China
>>1602945>>1602919>1910>Lombardy-Venetia still part of Austria-HungaryThe effort to bring down the beast continues.
>>1602518I miss the old system where public pressure could force governments to pass laws they normally wouldn't, especially when playing non-western. Now it's just>landowners in power>they never compromise on anything>cheese it by appointing more liberal IG and forcing civil war which makes no sense with landowner ruler>try to pass laws while landowners are diminished (which always takes forever so you only get one or two things done)>industrialising doesn't seem to have major effects on the political landscape of the country so all other IGs stay at low clout and law change success rate stays low
>>1602967What do you think "Movement" and "Agitator" mechanics are? Do you even play the game?
What if you wanted to improve society, but God said>This will Radicalize the Landlords?
>>1602954Italy didn't exist before 1903 and Prussia barely even bothered Austria
>>1601651>Then make up another reason: widely spread idea that negros are subhuman and should not be allowed to spread outside the areas they are held.Retard that's WHY they were anti slavery. Free soil. Farmers didn't want slaveowners going into the virgin west with their slaves and being able to undercut free labor.
Huh, how often have any of you got a Reform Landlord leader? Because it's feasible. You need to have researched Egalitarianism, though.
>>1582830>be NGF>war with Austria looming>Russia called in>two fronts, no problem>a full tech ahead in artillery and infantry + home grown war economy>war fires off>front immediately goes full autism>somehow Austria slips between my lines and full occupies Brandenburg before I can redeploy to the new front>armies refuse to take it back despite 75 green front and a strategic objective>retardedly sit there as we tick towards capitulation>Alt-F4Maybe next patch
>>1602999I cheese one with the Corn Laws event
>>1603004Hold on, what?
>>1602969The only time the movement mechanic has ever affected my game is when I'm cheesing it to cause a civil war because I need to violently oust the landowners and agitators have always been safe to ignore if they even do anything. They usually just attach to a movement, do fuck all and then die. As far as I'm aware, government IGs will never support a movement. There's no compromise like in Vicky 2 where organic pressure would get enough of the party to cave in and let the reform happen in order to stay in power and ward off a civil war. It's just all or nothing, and all change I've had to force myself.
>>1603005You set your grain to Prioritize Export, then open the trade tab and export grain to a billion country until it hits +25% value in your market. Once the event fires in the top right you cancel all the trade thingies. Stay on export though.Eventually you'll get an event that says "A character appears" and it's an agitator with Market Liberal ideaology so you can just give him power to the landlord IG.
>>1603007>muh Vic 2 militancy abuseUh-huh. You mean Paradox took away your reason to start and drag out wars? Good.I pass Laws with public and agitator support all the time, buddy.
>>1602969Cargo-cult mechanics made to cover up the fact that Pops don't matter in this game.
>>1603008Wait, is it guaranteed to be Landlord character?
>>1603011Why are you Vicky 3 shills so fucking slimy and disingenuous?
>>1603011No, I mean the political landscape of the country would noticeably change as I industrialised, and I could organically reform laws as the pops become more politically conscious instead of artificially cheesing the movement system to create a civil war to get literally anything and I mean ANYTHING done. I don't know why you're so mad about someone criticising your cookie clicker game.
>>1603016Oh ho ho ho. Nice. Now if I only I didn't start with ISOLATIONISM.God fucking DAMNIT.
>>1603017If you just play the game, this is exactly what happens.>cookie clickerAh, it's you, again, degenerate. You ever get tired of just lying?
What are the creamapi codes for ; voice of the people preorder, amarican buildings pack and victoria 2 remastered soundtrack?
>>1603023Use https://github.com/Sak32009/GetDLCInfoFromSteamDB on the vic 3 page on steamdb
>>1603027It was missing them for some reason, that's why I'm asking
Eat the meat. EAT IT. CONSUME MEAT. My ranches need profits.
>>1603021>If you just play the game, this is exactly what happens. We just established it can't. Government IGs don't support movements, so it's either civil war or civil war unless you can finagle the approval high enough to skate through without making the opposing IG too angry. Most organic possible scenario is a movement gets powerful enough, the landowners won't budge and you have a civil war to remove the landowners from the political equation entirely. And with all the influence bonuses landowners start with, even when heavily industrialised I've never had movements powerful enough to do that, meaning I have to force all the changes to happen. The system is all-or-nothing with zero nuance, significantly dumbed down. All pops in an IG agree on all issues and will single-mindedly support it with no possible compromise built into the political system.>Ah, it's you, again, degenerate. You ever get tired of just lying?I'm not whoever you think I am, but you seem to be some sort of schizo who's wrapped his identity up in a Paradox game, or maybe you work at Paradox. Either way, this is your last (you) so the thread doesn't get any more derailed.
>>1603053>We just established it can't.Nobody established shit, your dumbfuck ass just revealed you don't actually play the game you whine about, like the bitch you are. Base influence is determined by wealth, and wealth is determined by employment. And Aristocrat employment is all in agriculture. By just playing the game and industrializing the country normally and emptying out the subsistence farms, Landlords will always decline.
>>1602734Are you going to elaborate on why you think it's dumb or are you more interested in sucking paradox cock?
Can someone describe what this new technocracy law represents?I understand the concept of it, as power lying with unelected elites from industry and science. How does it combine with parliament laws though? E.g. presidential republic + landed suffrage makes sense as a political form where properties people vote for a president, but what would presidential republic + technocracy look like?
>>1603354It's Oligarchy, but you empower Engineers, Academics and Officers, instead. Don't over think it.
>>1603356Double-checking, Academics come only from Universities and Arts Academies (lmao), and Engineers comes from advanced production methods. So you directly control salaries AND numbers of two of those groups. So if Wealth Thresholds of pre-Universal Suffrage still has your cock, it's certainly a way to put Intelligentsia into the driver's seat. You also get rid of Elected Bureaucrats and replace them with Appointed.
Gommie Prussia :D
Also Bavarian Congo
>>1582830Is it playable yet?
>>1603002The new meta is to spam as many commanders as you can. And it's a meta, because this is what AI is doing. Since it has so many commanders, it can open multitude of "sub-fronts" and that changes completely the dynamic of war right now.It used to be that you assigned 40 divisions to defend, 40 divisions to assault and you had an entire front covered (even if it was Sino-Russian War, with front going through half of Asia). Now you want to cram as many commanders as you can into a single front. And it can work against AI, because as much as it spams commanders, it also keeps doing those retardedly big stacks, so you can out-swarm it with simply having more flexibility and more of those "sub-fronts" to fight in. This also means you want to have as many as feasible tier 1 commanders, never to promote anyone. Which also solves bunch of problems with IGs and their power multipliers (along with offering nifty ground to boost IGs you want to be strong)
>Brits can just declare End Slavery wars on your puppets as East India Company...despite still being their dominionHoly fuck
>USA gets split into Union and Confederacy>fwd 10 years>confederacy has a peasant revolt and is now split too.Murrica going full matryoshka doll.
>>1603613Honestly at this rate, I fully expect the US to go full Balkans by the end of the century IRL, if that.
Give me your wild speculations for what SoI will look like.
>>1603655As long as you can build in other members of your Customs Union, it'll be gucci with me. But those things need a nerf. Why does anybody get to collect tariffs besides the union leader?
I finished my Romania playthrough, couldn't beat Austria a second time even with the help of Italy and Russia since Italy decided to let itself get fully conquered by France and for whatever reason i managed to lose control of one of the two regions i was trying to conquer, meaning that their warscore wasn't going to drop further and so i tried to keep the war going for as long as possible hoping they would collapse, they didn't. Other than that, it was impressive how strong France got, they had a stronger navy than Great Britain but also a weaker army, Prussia started pretty bad but recovered after they became communist like the US did much later.
>>1603655>>1603659Yo! We finally getting that globohomo Banking Cartel simulator? At long last I will be able to larp as BlackRock.
>>1603667Yeah, yeah. The real problem was ownership shares, and how you're supposed to code and keep track of it. It'll probably be a Trade center analog, staffed entirely by capitalists.
>>1603663Also some more stats
So has anybody tried to figure out the new meta? Your armies MUST have 50% infantry, or they get an org penalty, but what's the point of using cavalry, if you unlocked Mobile Artillery? More land captured in a battle? Except for maybe Dragoons, which have a higher Defense stat. And you can use Counter Charge, if you have the general with a trait.
Best modlist at the moment?
>>1603663>no Moldavia>no DobrudjaOn the one hand, good. None of this EU4 bullshit of dragging allies into wars. On the hand... hmm... How? Not enough options for whoring yourself out.
>>1603681>>1603682Just like in real life cavalry becomes obsolete pretty quick, i think they get replaced by tanks but i haven't seen them yet
>>1603700The Ottomans were always allied with Russia so no way i could try to wage war against them, later when my army was much better other countries were protecting them too so i had no choice but to go for Austria, it worked the first time when they were busy in China but the second time even though they were also at war with Prussia it didn't work because their ally France was that strong
>>1603708Oh and wtf man
>>1603708>Ottoman's just stay together, instead of having a normal oneWe still have a lot of content to go. But when we get there, boy, it'll be amazing.
>>1603687The only mods that i can't play without are Morgenrote and https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2984472884, Immersive Map in my opinion also looks amazing and better than the vanilla maps.

>>1603765Unite Germany. Go full GROB.
>>1603779im sorry for expecting that the empire that suffered from nationalism would be kinda hard in a game set during the age of nationalism>>1603782>unite germanynuh uh im gonna leave them all as a bunch of different principalities, as it should be
Why is Austria so powerful? Is that historical?
well at least losing italy is unavoidable
>>1603789Big population. No.
>>1603849What could be done to make it more historically powerful? My pet idea is to make Hungary and Bohemia PUs under Austria. I'm under the impression that this is how it worked historically, that even into the 1910s there were Austrian historians saying 'I don't even know if this Empire counts as a state under international law because it's just an onion of feudal properties'.Not a historian though, and I don't know how much making those into PUs would change things.
>>1603899Actually, that's my idea. But here are the problems - overlord does not impact law making of puppets, every single puppet will get 10 base construction for free, as well as base minting, generation of radicals from discrimination will be greatly reduced, or overcompensated and will be greatly increased, making Austria unplayable. From the very start, Victoria 3's coding implemented the liberal nationalist view of nation-states as coherent, universal and unified. "Decentralized" is barely a stop-gap. Neither Africans, not Muslims struggle with tribalism, every culture is just accepted. Caste system in India is absent. Of course it can't handle a feudal monster like Austrian Empire. It's time to break out the modifiers. Lots and lots of modifiers.
>>1603964marxist history, not even once
>>1603971it's obvious to anyone that the roman empire fell because industrial factory worker wages were too low
>>1603982Slave-based economies are unsustainable, because slaves have zero natural growth (with one exception), that's why the empire over-extended itself, collapsed, and slavery was replaced with serfdom.
>>1603673>It'll probably be a Trade center analog, staffed entirely by capitalistsLame. It should be staffed by Diversity hires, like every Capitalist enterprise these days.
>>1603982they were low there was a massive wealth gap in the roman empire that made everyone stop caring or join the military just like today
Is it possible to get colonial resettlement as the US?Will switching to colonial exloitation affect my settlement of the west after it's all been colonized?
>>1604098You'll probably need to do a shuffle, where you switch to Exploitation and then back to Resettlement.
>>1603983>with one exceptionUSA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
>>1603971Liberal historical views and Marxist (Materialist) views of history are entirely different things though. You're right that Vicky implements the materialist view though.>>1603964For starters, one would need to do away with the retarded America-centric discrimination system. What does national supremacy mean in the aristocrat-dominated post-feudal Austrian empire? No one is denying you a job because you're Slovak, no one is going to burn crosses in your front yard or prevent you from entering shops and so on. However, if you ever want to rise up high in government, lead armies and decide national policy your last name better have a von in there somewhere (or a z or a de etc). The fact that Radtzky and Kolowrat in the game are made into South Germans despite being Czechs (Bohemians) in real life exemplifies this initial problem. How can you represent the stranglehold the Hungarian magnates had on the late empire or the Polish domination of the Minister-Presidency (Prime Minister) if a random Viennan vegetable merchant technically oppresses both groups?
How do I encourage pops to migrate to my country? Playing Brazil and I want to become a superpower to rival the US through sheer immigration power BRASIL CAMPEÃO DO MUNDO!!
>>1604133At least Paradox got it right that Intelligentsia does not like Multiculturalism (during this time period).

Redpill me on colonization. Let's say I'm France and I want to colonize Indochina. Should I puppet then diplo annex to keep those states as unincorporated? What's the difference between having some foreign protectorates/dominions, having those as incorporated states under your direct control, and having a colonial government set up (the new mehanic)? I'm under the impression the French and British had different philosophies of governance regarding their colonies. Where France assumed direct control and Britain used local powerholders to act as go-betweens or puppets instead. How do I model this in-game? Keeping all colonial states as unincorporated states of my country as France and protectorates/dominions as Britain? I've not even touched colonization yet and I'm 200 hours in.

>>1607957no you cant
>>1607957Nah. You can cut down on naval invasion time if you park the navy and armies (mobilized) in the closest HQ via sea route to your target. I think the shortest naval invasion you can get is close to 2 weeks compared to the old 90 day minimum
>>1607896>>1607902What the other anon said - in the current diplo system, your goal is to flat-out conquer minors, rather than playing nice with them. Until they unfuck diplomacy (likely never or no sooner than 2-3 years), there is no point even trying to have historical unification. We are back to OG Vicky, where you should start conquering German minors on 1st February 1836, when your mobilisation is ready.

>>1608811>>1608811>Yeah I'm sure it's marxist propaganda to have autocratic monarchies and fascist single party states be the most legitimate forms of governmentAre you kidding me? You're either a fucking tankie (in which case: kill yourself, you worthless piece of shit), or you're an uneducated moron who has no place talking about anything. The foundation of Victoria 3's simulation of both its economic and political systems are rooted in Marxist political philosophy: they work as any true communist would expect them to. The IGs themselves simulate class warfare, with "class" being defined by Marx as: a broad group of people with the same relation to the economy and the means of production, that share and work towards common political interests. The bourgeois (and that the terminology doesn't already tip you off it telling of your IQ)—that's capitalists and businessmen—are a class. They all get their wealth through similar means, generating profit from their workers and private property, and they have similar political interests; they don't support high wages, unionization, regulation, and the like. I'll reiterate it for you one more time since you seem to think that because communists acknowledge that nationalists, reactionaries, and alternative "-isms" exist, that it somehow invalidates communists own overt mark on this game: The Interest Groups in Victoria 3 are a stand in for classes as defined by Marx; they are groups of people with similar professions and roles in society that push for politics to their personal benefit. That any given individual unit of population in Victoria 3's political view comes from their IG—or rather, their collective class interests, and their class allegiance that the games decides on based on their profession and economic situation is all but screaming to the world that this is a Marxist game, as that is how Marxists thinks politics works.

>>1608982even if you only have like 20 units?
>>1608983I don't think there are any downsides in combat, it's better to make a giant blob of soldiers than several smaller units.
>>1608983You should never have more than the bottom number of units per general. In the old system, it was a cap of 40 units on both assault and defense, and any value above that was wasted. So you effectivelly needed 2 generals per front, each commanding 40 units. Now you have "sub-fronts", and each commander is doing this separately. Which means that having 4 generals with 20 units each opens 4 sub-fronts, while having 1 general commanding 80 units gives you a single, static front. This shit was both explained in the dev diaries and post releases guides, PLUS people discussed this to death. You literally have no excuse at this point to still not just reading about it, but figuring it out on your own, given its's been a month since the change was made.

>>1609013>Old system: 2x40 units per front, one attacking, the other defending>New system: as many generals as you can per important front, all but one in offensive, number of troops per general is meaninglessWhich the other anon already said, but apparently you need to be fed in small, uncomplicated words.
>>1608980Nothing about it makes sense, it's the most obtuse piece of shit I've ever experienced
>>1609018>Byzboob shitposting is back
>>1609020Game even has an updated tutorial to explain the new military system... and here you are, throwing a tantrum
I hate how fucking retarded this game is. Every release has major bugs even after a long beta. The resource/MAPI balance doesn't make any sense. Why was Persia given a bunch of excellent iron/coal/wood provinces while other middling unrecognized powers have awful MAPI? How hard would it be for paradox to toss Egypt or Ottomans or whoever just a single province with iron/coal/wood? It can't be due to balance concerns because they just randomly buff the everliving fuck out of random shitholes willy nilly. Why did the latest DLC focus on meaningless SA flavor? I fucking hate these swedish retards.
>>1609020It's a total mess even after the rework.
>>1609027The plan is to fill up the expansion pass that came with the preorder with meaningless shit and make people pay again for the actual good stuff.
>>1608980>>1609020>>1609028... why do you keep replying to yourself?
i didn't like the previous combat because it was shallow but i at least liked how simple it was in most cases (barring 10+ fronts in india and germany). at least paradox successfully got rid of a lot of micro. but i hate this buggy gross frankenstein mess we have now.
>>1609032but i'm only the first one.
>>1609027>Why does the game represent actual natural resources accessible in specific regions, rather than just giving everything to everyone? And the joke is: Anatolia is swimming with iron and coal, to say nothing about wood. Which means you are literally bitching about issues the game doesn't have in the first place
>>1609033noooooooooooooo not the hecking map soldiers and micro i'd rather focus on pressing the + button on my construction queue and watching the map afk nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
>>1609033>I am retarded, please give (You)sHear, hear
>>1609041i like micro in eu4, v2, and hoi4. i didn't like v3's first combat system but it was at least simple to understand. now it's just bad in every respect.
>>1609044Friendly reminder you must be at least 16 to successfully pretend to be 18, the bottom age needed to use this site
>>1609044>I handled Vicky 2, or at least claim so>But Vicky 3 new military is too much for my brainImagine having a bukkake and spit fetish
>>1609038Oh there's an iron/coal/wood province in the Ottoman Empire? That's awesome I must have missed it. Could you tell me which one it is?I really do hope you're not an illiterate fucking retard that doesn't know what MAPI is and I'm specifically asking for states that have all 3 of those resources rather than their being distributed across different states.
>>1609051Which part of "Anatolia" you need explained, retard?
>>1609053Jesus Christ you can't be serious
>>1609032can you stop being schizophrenic for 2 seconds
>>1609051Serbia (not in Anatolia)TrabizondWhatever the name of the state with Ankara in it.
>>1609051>This retard actually crams all his mining industry into a single state>Along with wood>Especially after local prices reworkYou just can't make this shit up. It is impossible to be this fucking dumb
>>1609061None of those have iron+coal+wood.>>1609062You don't understand local pricing and how it advantages vertical integration. That's OK but then you shouldn't even be posting about this.
>>1609065>You don't understand local pricingIrony at its finest. But hey, you do you and fight self-created problems by your own stupidity.I mean fuck, you don't even consider the simple fact that you aren't playing as China, and still trying to pull this shit off anyway.
>>1609022It's just funny really. I've been doing greece into dismantling turks since 1.0 and trying to see how to adapt strategies with each new patches. I used to be able to solo the ottomans with 20 regiments back then and get all the provinces needed in 3 wars but now I have to suck up to austria or russia to get a kickstart. This run I tried going to east africa to recruit an army from the local population but these spearchuckers are so fucking retarded I can't fill the barracks with them.
>enter vicky 3 thread>300+ posts shitting on the game from every angle possible>2 autists calling each other retarded over and over again without elaborating after a simple question was asked>"if you do not even know Ricardo Milos's economic system and/or Karl Marx's stance on Jews then you should cease posting, this video game is for people with high IQ only"never change
>>1608979>with nothing to do with what we were talking aboutRetard or disingenuous communist? I'd bet on the latter of the two. I was clearly talking about the IG mechanic as a whole with my original post calling it "Marxist propaganda," which you responded to. You don't get to divorce that context from the conversation; and more to the point, I already addressed your rhetoric as well. >I'll reiterate it for you one more time since you seem to think that because communists acknowledge that nationalists, reactionaries, and alternative "-isms" exist, that it somehow invalidates communists own overt mark on this gameCommunist governments, of all flavors (besides, perhaps, the anarchists), enjoy high legitimacy in the game as well. Don't go cherry picking "reactionary" ideological governments and ignoring the aforementioned communists ones, and act like that means anything from either the standpoint of gameplay or the more abstract. Marx and other leftist crackpots believed that the petite bourgeois would be a stronghold for fascism and reactionary politics well beyond their own time, and it is precisely the reason that the petite bourgeois are the most right wing faction in the game. In what way then is any of this incongruent with my first post, or my prior point?
>>1609065>You don't understand local pricing and how it advantages vertical integration.>workers can't afford basic goods made in the rest of the country>factories can't sell finished goods to the rest of the country and customs unionAdvantages?
Any fun formables? Just did an Indonesia playthrough and it was aight
