The first DLC for Grand Tactician: The Civil War comes out today. Discuss.
nono i don't think i will
>>1532320ok
>>1532320I like the concept of starting as a captain or whatever, but does that mean the AI is making all the decisions and you have to follow waypoints even if it spells disaster? I thought it would be more of a "doing skirmishes until you rank up and gain command of larger forces".
Mostly interested in the theater map, the scale for the whole war was cool, but limited maneuver in northern Virginia. Also, concerned about this >>1532374For the rest of it
how long until the banned discord tranny shows up and starts shitting his autism all over this thread?
>>1532320Still wondering if this game is any good
>>1532389the detail the game has is just absurd but the AI leaves a lot to be desired
>>1532374I've played just over an hour of it and spent about half an hour in a battle. It literally is just following waypoints but you don't receive a penalty for not obeying that order, you'll get a bonus, however if you enter that zone of combat. It is a bit ridiculous at the moment because you'll be set a waypoint with an explanation of why you need to go there and as soon as you do you're instantly ordered to another waypoint. Sometimes once you've reached a waypoint you get an order to stay there and wreck shit which I found fun.
>>1532389basically this>>1532391but i still had fun with the sheer amount of customization with the sandbox campaign. nothing beats equipping my csa armies with mississippi rifles and outranging the union. with MP this game would be perfect.
So final verdict, is it worth it?
>>1532392about what I expected then given the state of the AI, not sure how they thought they could make it work
Greed-maxxing DLC to steal money from the paypigs and simps.
NEO confederate revisionist slop.
apparently the questionnaire for the DLC character creation says niggerLMAO THESE DEVS
It's borderline unplayable. This DLC puts the AI in the driver's seat despite the fact that the AI has been the biggest problem in the game since launch. And it didn't say nigger, people were THAT MAD that it said retard
>>1532320I swear to god, this board is as bad as regular /v/ nowadays.
>>1532988Sorry it's not hoi4 mod thread #2493
>>1532932retard does sound wildly out of place tho
>>1533180yeah it does can't argue with that. I just don't want people ignoring bigger issues cause of that.
Only retarded trannies get upset over the use of the word retard
>>1533180Maybe the Civil War wouldn't have had so many casualties if somebody called someone a fucking retard. No, General Lee. I am not going to charge my entire division across a mile of open ground under intense cannon and rifle fire, you fucking retard.
Yankee are turning Dixie.https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=shared&v=oNR-3-jXs7EI love the greatness of our collective choice to love immortality, absolute divinity, all utopia, and all love.
>>1533383>tell Robert "what do you mean men don't grow on trees?" Lee this>get executed for insubordination>subordinate gets put in command and does the charge anywayAt least historians would remember you fondly 'n shit.
>ppl seething about staying idle at camp and civil war generals making bad blundersThat's literally realistic lo
>>1533479this the bad AI unironically getting me deeply invested in the games RP
>>1532932In what context does the character creation say retard? It can be used as a technical term for delaying actions, but is it just>on a scale of 1-10, how retarded are you?
>>1532320Unironically having a blast. Currently RP'ing as a 21 year old absolute drunkard of an Officer. Had to quit my last run as an immigrant Officer because the Confeds boxed me in with over 100,000 men.Trying to survive the situations the AI puts you in is honestly fun.
Any other games where the Bad AI actually helps the game?
>>1533853The Sims, most memorable stuff comes from the AI deciding to do weird things
I've been wanting to play this game, since it seems like it's the game Ultimate General: Civil War was trying to be. But I've been a bit put off by the combo of bad AI and no MP. One of those is tolerable, but both means the game is basically unplayable.
>>1535710The last time there was good battle ai in a civil war game was 1997, you'll just have to get over it.
>>1533426>Being insubordinate and a general headache to commandThat sounds like a job for Albert Pike
Is it worth the sale price? how is the replayability?
Am I racist if I always play the south in civil war games?
>>1537455no. really cool concepts but the dev team just doesn't have the chops to pull it off and we're three years in with no signs of improvement.
>>1537455I would say no, especially if you have experience with these sorts of game or if you grew up with Gettysburg! and whatnot. The oppenent AI is rather simple and easy to figure out (Forrest was right) and it isn't much to write home about.
oh goodness, i sent a few years trying to bring the blunt reaction in line with reality, but that hasnt happened and the level of consideration is already busted to hell and back and everyone thinks you and your whore mother has me and mine in your back pocket, but whatever.fuck all yall
>>1538463Playing the south is literally the only way to enjoy this game, as the AI suffers without the North's ability to send wave after wave against you.
how do I do melee charges with my cav?they never seem to go through
Sweet Jesus the strategic AI is bad. And I'm not talking passivity.I'm talking "will focus two armies to win a battle in Missouri and then sit both armies at the battle site out of supply range slowly starving for the following 9 months while the enemy regroups and then advances on St. Louis". In the short term, issuing commands from below needs to be cheaper (on a cooldown, so it gets more expensive if you don't wait."Also, just be willing to move more. yeah it kills readiness but an out of position unit is more useless than an unready one. Also, does anyone know how actions work? you do them once and then they take up the slot forever?
I get the AI is le bad. But the civil war was just blunder after blunder desu. It's realisitc that your orders are shit and top brass is sending you and your men to their deaths lmao.
>>1539105there's believably bad. Sitting an excessively large defensive force on Washington or St. Louis would be believably bad. Blundering out of supply range by going too deep into enemy territory would be believable. Sitting in your own state, just outside of supply range, doing nothing, is just infuriating. It wouldn't be so bad if the AI had any kind of feedback (via orders or the message system). Anything to tell me the AI has a plan for what it is doing, and didn't just bug out and stop working.
>>1532320The tactical AI is fine, it performs well enough. But the fucking strategic AI is the barrier between you and fun. Holy shit, stop skirmishing in Missouri for a year you faggots. My character is literally getting obese because of you.
I'm having alot of fun as a brigade commander trying to claw back victory as the south after alot of the AI's setbacks. You could be winning your tactical side of battle but in the wider battle, your failing. One time the whole yankee army was coming upon me in one road, and you have to fight like a delayed retreat while the rest of the army arrives.
>>1532320> Charge an artillery detachment of 50 men with 2000 infantry. > Infantry bridgade loses 50 men each tick of combat and routs> Artillery detachment suffered no casualties. Man I want to love this game, but it's such a buggy mess.
>>1543558don't forget about cav instantly routing upon making contact with the unit they're charging
>>1532444Not really. Needs so much more polish especially AI which seems to be beyond the devs ability.
>>1533403Gayest faggot video I ever saw. Consider becoming Christian and a real man.
>>1533853Dwarf Fortress
>>1539233I've been watching some playtroughs, is this thing work a buy if it's on sale? The Career mode seems sort of fun as I heard the best thing to do was put the AI on the highest aggressive level and it works a bit better with less bloat and gets into more battles.
>>1548176I'd wait, career mode is anemic. Not enough room for player choices and the campaign ai doesn't do the most basic shit like defend Washington or buy enough rifles. main game is good fun.I do think it has potential though to be good as its own thing with more time in the oven. Keep tabs on it. Also your tolerance for buggy shit needs to be very high to enjoy this game.
>>1538463No, what's the fun in playing as the side with the military advantage?
