To this day I still don't really understand the effect of leader stats. All information I can find on it is incredibly vague. Even in hero quests success seems to be a complete crapshoot regardless of the quester's stats.
>>1523915never heard about this game, I love the art style
>>1523915Leader stats help the clan deal with the issues those stats pertain to. Heroquesting is something special that you must build up to, having a trickster, a worshiper of the deity, not done a heroquest recently, and knowing the lore answers. >>1523937Its probably in my very short list of perfect games.
>>1523943>Leader stats help the clan deal with the issues those stats pertain to.This is precisely the vague information I was referring to.
>>1523915what God should i focus if i want roleplay as Jew clan?
>>1523950If you're looking for something like>Agriculture makes your harvest X% largerthen you're not gonna find it. This is not the game for this kind of numbers autism.
>>1523915What is this genre called?
>>1523992Visual Novel.
>>1523992Management sim I guess.
>>1523915Well there are the 7 base skills that each have. These are actually numbers, but rather than report them as 3.3 or 5.12, they’re categorizedFairGoodVery GoodExcellentRenownedHeroicWhat is important to realize is that there are the core stats, but there are a set of derived stats that are a combination of two or more of those base stats that also get tested. Everything that can get tested is:AnimalsBargainingCombatCustomDeception (Bargaining + Leadership)Diplomacy (Bargaining + Custom)Exploring (Bargaining + Combat)Farming (Animals + Plants)Hunting (Animals + Combat + Plants, special for Odayla worshippers)LeadershipMagicPlantsPoetry (Custom + Leadership)Prophecy (Magic + Leadership)Strategy (Combat + Leadership) Furthermore, most tests have other various bonuses such as artifacts or blessings you have.
>>1524011But what do they actually do?
>>1524065Well they are used in places you might expect them to be based on the name. But in other places too.>http://kingofdragonpass.blogspot.com/2011/12/skilled-leader.html>So what are those skills good for?>The quality of the advice someone gives depends on their skills. For example, Vordessa (with Very Good in Animals) can probably give reasonable advice about situations involving cattle health. But someone with a Renowned skill will probably have additional insights. The game favors the best advice, so depending on the situation, Vordessa will more often be giving Combat advice (since it’s Excellent) rather than Animal-related advice.>Leaders are sometimes explicitly tested in their skills. For example, the “Uralda’s Blessing” heroquest is hard because the quester must have a good enough Combat skill to survive the biting things. Or an interactive scene may let you pick who fights a duel or acts as an emissary. Depending on the situation, the game may only let you choose from characters who are likely to succeed. For example, if you won’t succeed unless you have a good bargainer, the “pick leader” dialog will only show characters above a certain level. (What skill is tested is not always obvious, and in fact more than one skill may be important, so you might want to sort the list several ways before picking.)>Leaders are also tested when they act as the clan’s agent. When you pick a response, somebody actually has to perform (or lead) the action.
The real question is if it's worth fucking up your clan ring feng shui while chasing after big leader stats.
>>1523915People call this game a VN but what would actually turn it into a true one would be 100% quantifiable inputs and variables. At that point getting exactly what you want would be a matter of merely choosing.
>>1524173Nope.
The problem witb the game is that it does not offer a connection between your choices and their consequences. You don't know why you fail, you don't know how you could do better. You think you chose the correct option, yet you still fail and the game doesn't even tell you if it's your fault or just bad rng.
>>1524398The connection is the continuity from one screen to the next. What you're asking for is a consistent and gameable one. Which would be a completely different kind of experience to what the game currently is. What you're describing isn't "The" problem, it's just *your* problem. The game is not about failure, or better, or correct. The game is a living model of culture and history. Really it shouldn't even be called a game. That would solve a lot of objections.
>>1524173Never fuck with your Feng Shui
>>1524173Having 7 different gods represented on your ring gives you more magic, improves your hero questing and helps with clan mood. It also gives a more varied amount of magic to invest in.You also want both men or women or you'll upset the other gender and hurt your clan's fertility. It isn't very hard in King of Dragon Pass, since there are lots of different gods and nobles and you can just easily raise the stats of the ones you pick to become big leader stats. The Six Ages prequel, Ride Like the Wind, mixes it up a lot by making you need to represent 7 different gods AND the 7 different clan families, which can often result in you needing to shuffle a bit more when a noble dies.
>>1524472>The Six Ages prequel, Ride Like the Wind, mixes it up a lot by making you need to represent 7 different gods AND the 7 different clan families, which can often result in you needing to shuffle a bit more when a noble dies.I actually never bothered with this and prioritized stats (barring times when it was convenient enough to do).
>>1523915>To this day I still don't really understand the effect of leader statsThey are mostly meaningless. You don't want them to have the lowest possible stats, because that encourages small handful of annoying events, but other than that, the stats have no impact.KoDP is a visual novel, created for Glorantha's fandom, by Glorantha's fans. The sooner you realise it (and people are struggling for past 20-odd years), the better will be your experience, along with rolling with how many things ultimately are there just for the sake of it.
>>1524266>No, it's not VN, because it's not like a modern VN made for Siemens cell phonesLike I've said, people constantly struggle with this basic concept.
>>1523992KoDPlite.
>>1523992Visual novelJust because you aren't dating anime chicks/twinks doesn't mean it's not a VN
>>1523950It limits/increase chances of specific events (never fully prevent/guarantee) and in certain cases offers additional options (not all of them are good).
>>1524707>but other than that, the stats have no impact. The stats of your leaders get checked with pretty much any decision you make to determine your chance of succeeding. Even stuff like raiding, exploring and sacrificing check the stats of your most relevant leader on the ring or the one you assigned to the mission.
>>1524705It’ll hurt your magic and clan mood and trigger bad events if you don’t keep the circle balanced. It isn’t hard to bring a new noble up to snuff, and the ones you replaced can be used for Trading, Exploring, diplomatic missions and rituals that aren’t just to make the ritual leader stronger. This way you don’t need to break your circle and send someone else away.
>>1524717Like how paradox games like crusader kings 2 and 3 are visual novels?
>>1524728Consult >>1524097 (assuming you are not the guy posting it). What it all effectively means that stats are meaningless, because the amount of variables at play, along with the bias of leaders toward their highest skill (which isn't always the skill that should be chcked) renders it all mostly moot. What you want to avoid is having people with low mean and people that are one-trick ponies. But other than that, you are peachy with anyone, and it doesn't matter what their exact stats are. You just don't want the really bad and unbalanced ones.Just like in the actual politics
>>1524735I have no idea how you managed to compare the two, but hey, I'm expecting intelligence from someone who brings up Paradox unprompted...
>>1523915It affects the outcome of literally every single action, most important of all battles and random events. Since failing random events is usually what leads to game overs, that's obviously vital. It also affects passive shit like harvest, goods income, patrolling, which random events you get. It's always worth prioritizing them over everything else. But obviously don't fuck up your clan ring just to go from Good to Very Good in Plants. Only do it for big jumps. Also, prioritize guys who are good at everything over guys who are good at only one thing since compound stats are a thing.
>>1524735Don't respond to it. That guy spams the same shit in every KoDP thread.
>>1524737How can you not? Both are just fiddling with numbers and decisions, broken up by events.
>>1524747>KoDP is fittingly described as visual novel for longer than anon is alive>iTs JuSt OnE gUy, If YoU iGnOrE hIm, He WiLl DiSaPpEaRThe funny part is that until the game came out on phones, nobody had any issues with it being a VN, but then zoomers decided that VNs are cringe and you can't be cringe, so obviously a VN is not a VN, as liking a VN would make you cringe - and you can't afford that.Especially not on an online anonymous Tibetan tanka weaving forum
>>1524748Since one has other inputs than that. You would know, if you played either - not to mention both. But hey, let's go for argumentum ad absurdum - it's just like Far Cry 2. You play it on your computer, and you interact with the game by fiddling with numbers and decisions that are just neatly displayed to you.Don't b like this, Aaron
>>1524736>What it all effectively means that stats are meaningless, because the amount of variables at play, along with the bias of leaders toward their highest skill (which isn't always the skill that should be chcked) renders it all mostly mootNo it looks like you misunderstood. Advice given is based on their relevant skill which determines their role. So highest combat and leader will usually be your war leader and will give you the war leader’s advice, your head bargainer will give you bargaining advice, etc, though that advice can at times be modified by things like personality or their god.Depending on what decision you choose, the leader with the highest relevant stats will be the one that has their stats chosen. While things like artifacts and shrines can impact this, the core is still your leader’s stats so they are terribly important. And don’t forget that those bonuses can also be countered by other penalties too. Also note that while the descriptions cap at Heroic, the underlying stat numbers can keep going higher and higher which makes you able to get away with greater and greater things.
>>1524751>Since one has other inputs than that. Like what?
>still responding to the autistRetard.
I like both KoDP and Ride like the Wind, but I think Ride like the Wind has deeper and more balanced mechanics than KoDP, especially the KoDP remaster version which simplified some things over the original version.
>>1524769I agree, but it's just too short.
>>1524775It is unfortunate but that does help with the balance a bit. There is no way to do everything in one game of Six Ages so you’ll always need to prioritize what you want, and there are tons of more valuable things you can do with your time too with stuff like ventures, bonuses for trading and visiting every clan and all the different types of exploration options you can do alongside the exploration map just being bigger.
>>1524775Six Ages would’ve been better if it followed KoDP’s approach to canon history where whoever you choose for the task becomes your Sarter that becomes the KoDP, rather than one specific guy as your Beren.
>>1523950For me it's sliders and selecting stuff on the map, you can click anywhere choose any value it's hard to have a concrete idea of what I am doing.
>>1524758Nta, but the sole fact CK keeps track of everything, while KoDP is only doing stuff for and about your tribe should ring you a bell. In other words - KoDP can't play "itself", because it's a VN. It requires input and choices, and ones that are only to the player. The other tribes on the map exist only in semi-random events regarding your own. They don't act on their own, they don't have resources on their own etc. They don't have to, because they are just bit characters in a VN, and whatever they have and can do is determined by player and only player. To put it into some perspective: you are insisting that a solitary man and a whole group of people are the same, because they are both made by homo sapiens.
>>1524857>literally just lying nowThe resources of other tribes are kept track of. They will attack and defend with less people after you kill a lot of them, they will offer less in trades if they're poor, and they will have less to steal if you take a lot from them. These numbers can get close to 0 if you're persistent enough in bullying them. When they sustain enough losses the whole tribe will just leave. Even artifacts are consistent. Every relationship (including between other NPC tribes) is also kept track of.I'm getting the impression that you've never actually played this game.
>>1524857>They don't act on their own, they don't have resources on their own etc.Not fully true. They have their own internal stats and resources too. You can’t see it directly because you aren’t omniscient but the game tracks how many cows and goods they have, their blessings, their fortifications, their populations and weaponthanes, their magic and treasures, etc. You can actually see this through repeatedly raiding the same clan. Their defenders will go down more and so will the available loot. You can even cause other clans to be destroyed completely if you refuse to let up raids and keep winning. They may not have the same level of detail there as the player but they are not just randomized nor static values. Most games can’t play themselves but that doesn’t make them visual novels. Tactics games like Ogre Tactics, Advance Wars or Fire Emblem aren’t visual novels despite having a set storyline and not having the the enemy as the same thing as the player. The only thing that has ever made people compare KoDP to a visual novel is the events that occur, but that same aspect is extremely prominent in games like CK2. KoDP is more of an RPG and Strategy game than it is a VN.
>>1524865One of the things I really miss on the updated KoDP is the ability to see the exact clan borders outlined on the map. The game shows nearby clans with an N but only those sharing a true border can have land stolen from them and it is also important if you need to cross their lands when on trade, diplomacy or exploration missions. One of my favorite things to try in the original KoDP was to steal lands from clans surgically to force them to build a clan bridge around the mountains so that I could end up owning most of the map, and since I shared a border with everyone I could recruit every clan in the game when forming a tribe. It was tough as hell to pull off, both due to the amount of tough careful raiding and then all the negotiations afterward to get each clan to contribute without giving too much but you were silly powerful with all the bonuses the different clans give.
>>1524879>recruit every clan in the game when forming a tribe.Oh, but maybe not the Colymar since they are already in a tribe? You might be able to break them up though, and leaving them means you still have a raid target after everyone else is in your tribe. But the Colymar are some of the toughest clans to raid since they are more established and have hill fort fortifications that you can’t get. Of course, if you’re strong enough to pull off such conquest of the rest of the pass then the Colymar are no threat.
>>1524808Did you read the manual?
Is there any way to cheat higher leader stats? I want to do some testing.
>>1524879this souls really fun and funny, I know in Six Age you can see clan border outline but KODP makes it hard to to determine
>>1524977About a decade ago /tg/ had a group game of KoDP where they used their fa/tg/uy autism to become stupidly powerful and that was one of the things they did.
totally missed thisdidn't like first one too much, kodp was much better
>>1525334If they just fix the length then it'll be a great game.
>>1525334>kodp was much betterThere were things I liked more about both but I think the Six Ages one was a better game due to having more content and mechanical complexity, even compared to the original non-dumbed down KoDP.
>>1525436>due to having more contentIs this really true? I need to replay that game, I've played one short playthrough that ended in faliure, shortly after the world went to shit
>>1525436>original non-dumbed down KoDPIs there something I don't know?
>>1525444There is old, original version of KoDP, you can get it from GOG nowadays, and then there is Steam version which is PC port of the more recent IOS version. It has reworked UI, more events, especially related to dwarves and more artifacts, but at the price of not having pig and/or sheep slaughter button (not having them at all?), being unable to assign thanes to tula patrols and maybe some other mechanical changes.
>>1525444>>1525448Yes, it had some more control over the specifics of things. Your Cows, Pigs and Sheep were tracked separately like horses are, rather than pigs and sheep just being an aspect of your “Cow” stat which was important since they provide different things, need different land and were used for different things (sheep in particular were extremely important for your shrines and temples but hard to get outside their natural reproduction). Your crops were also able to be managed more carefully between Wheat, Rye and Barley to account for weather predictions. There were some additional choices for your yearly magic investments too such as investing in children for more fertility. As mentioned there was additional control over your map due to being able to see the specifics of your borders.Crafting was different as well, you could actually turn your farmers into crafters if you wanted rather than just letting the game set the number and could allocate between the exotic and normal goods. The control over crafter numbers were nice since crafters wouldn’t get you food and didn’t fight like farmers do, but it lets you pump out more Goods rather than relying on trade and raids.
>>1525454>Crafting was different as well, you could actually turn your farmers into crafters if you wanted rather than just letting the game set the number and could allocate between the exotic and normal goods. The control over crafter numbers were nice since crafters wouldn’t get you food and didn’t fight like farmers do, but it lets you pump out more Goods rather than relying on trade and raids. They removed it because people would just always max it out.
>>1525466Not always, you needed food too.A strong clan can get more rafting from ransoming captives than from crafters too.
>>1525514No, always. Goods are way more valuable than food, and if you're starving then the ~30 extra farmers aren't going to save you anyways.
>>1525521You might pump it up but maxing is superfluous once you got to 100, 125. Farmers are needed to look after you cows and grow food for your crafters and massive pile of 60-100 weaponthanes.
Someone give me a quick rundown on combat. Yes, I read the manual.
>>1525783>Someone give me a quick rundown on combat. Simple rundown>You tick some boxes >You think your choices matter when they really don't>Something random happens like having your vastly superior army horribly defeated for no reason>You start wondering what you did wrong when you did nothing wrong the system is just a pure RNG.>You come to /vst/ for advice>You get informed that your decisions do not matter and you got scammed. There you go
>>1525783Spending magic on battles is a waste, max it on war at the beginning of the year so it helps on every battle.Sacrifices cost 1 cow each. Sacrifices to Orlanth help on the initial clash phase of calculations(which is what the tactics apply to). Sacrifices to Humakt help in the extended fighting. However they take time, so if the opponent sacrifices more than you and you charge, you interrupt their sacrifices so they get no bonus while you get some.Skirmishing slightly reduces your casualties and your chance of winning. It can help weaken the opponent prior to the melee segment.Evade greatly reduces casualties and your chance of winning.Charging is mostly neutral, but is favored by Orlanthi and there is a hero quest artifact which helps on the charge, making it often the best tactic.Maneuver is high risk/high reward. However, some combine in odd ways. Skirmishing is trying to extend the clash and avoid the melee, so if one side Skirmishes and the other Evades, or both Skirmish then the sides just shoot at each other but the raid ends up inconclusive other than casualties. Both of these are better if you are outnumbered and want to reduce deaths. If both sides choose evade, the battle never happens as both sides avoid each other.
>>1525783>>1526050As for the objectives, they have different goals and effects. Plunder is the standard offensive goal. It has normal casualties and the highest success rate, and on victory nets the highest amount of cows and goods.Burn steads is purposefully destroying their homes. It is harder than plunder and gets less loot, but it makes the target weaker for future raids and counter raids.Kill as many as possible is tougher and less likely to win the raid and when you do gets less loot than plunder. However as one would expect it has the highest enemy casualties and an even larger impact on their ability to raid or counter raid. There is a hero quest artifact you can do which helps with this option which can make it very effective at crippling a foe.Burning fortifications is tougher than destroying steads or killing as many as possible. If you succeed then you can destroy fortifications they have, like the ones you have, which make all raids more successful in the future but (unless you combo it with future raids of your own or by having the other clans target them) doesn’t much weaken their offensive raiding strength.Take Captives is harder still and while it gives less chance to win, more potential casualties on your side and less cows/goods picked up, captives are worth 5 goods each when ransomed so if you are very strong this can be one your best moneymaker.Survive has the lowest casualties for both sides but also a lowers your chance of winning, it is only good if you fuck up and are greatly outnumbered. One option you don’t have there is trying to steal their land. This is only available on clans that border you and is by far the hardest goal. High casualty, low success. Sometimes you can even win the battle but if it isn’t decisive enough you aren’t able to hold onto the land. If you do it will almost always trigger a feud, but you can steal some or all of their clan lands. This gives you more room for population, for your herds and food.
>>1525783One other thing I forgot to mention is your raid size and make-up. One weapon thane counts as 5 footmen in battle and there is a humakt blessing that makes them count as 10 each in battle. Numbers matter but bringing too many makes your raiding party more likely to be spotted and this more likely to fight the enemies full forces. It also leaves less people on your own lands, meaning you can end up getting cattle raided while they are away. High weaponthane numbers are thus crucial, since they let you bring a powerful army while still avoiding there’s and ensure you can still leave some of your weaponthanes and men behind.Bringing auxiliaries helps reduce your wounded and deaths, and helps you win too since they encourage your side. However if you fuck up and lose then they can get captured and ransoms are expensive in goods and cows. And if you can afford it then they can get enslaved, though you can free them later with future raids.
>>1524737I was personally sold on CKII by my friend going "it's just like that King of Dragon Pass game you're always playing". He wasn't wrong.
>>1526050>>1526065>>1526068Thanks for the write up nigga.
No matter what I do and how successful I am the Carls are always despairing. Am I supposed to deliberately get farmers killed to reduce the population so they stay happy?
>>1524870>You can’t see it directly because you aren’t omniscient but the game tracks how many cows and goods they have, their blessings, their fortifications, their populations and weaponthanes, their magic and treasures, et... and you can ignore those values if your own raiding party and people are good/bad enough, because the game is going to generate outcome from those, not their stock. The most obvious and easier to notice example is raiding more cows than they have. You achieve that, because the game accounts stats of your tribe, not the stockpile of the target.
>>1527563>Am I supposed to deliberately get farmers killeSplit off your tribe, you retard. You are running a fucking Bronze Age tribe, modelled after Northern European tribes. You are not in charge of a country, a nation or whatever else. You are in charge of a fucking tribe. You either embrace that, or you will constantly feel "cheated" by the game that's "unfair". Nigger, you are supposed to split, partition and break up non-stop. Because why the fuck your tribe is so huge while having only this little farmland and zero ability to control more? Split off, get useful allies from your own splinters, embrace the suck then they start being disloyal
>>1527900That's not true. You continue to expose yourself as someone who's never played this game.
>>1527929You keep repeating that, without providing any sort of counter or proof that I'm wrong. Other than insisting that I didn't play it, that is.
>>1527960Every post you have made so far has been exposed as a bunch of lies and you just keep making up more. You are obsessed.

>>1528018In the updated version the game forces clan splits in you much more forcefully, you often can’t prevent it.
>>1527903>You either embrace that, or you will constantly feel "cheated">your clan has huge tracts of land>enough food and work for everyone>successful at war>profitable at trade>everyone is healthy>the gods are well represented on the clan ring>receive the favor of the gods every few years by heroquesting>the clan even formed a tribe and a clan member is the tribe leader >but the clan population is higher than 1100 so everyone is upsetI don't feel cheated at all.

I'm extremely hyped about the new Six Ages game coming out tomorrow. I came to see if there was a thread and was not disappointed.
>>1528269If you split early enough, you never reach the point of unhappiness. Instead, you reach the point of constantly being short-armed.I guess part of the success of this game after the re-release was just resonating well with the "git gud" crowd: it's almost entirely RNG and esoteric gameplay mechanics that are deliberately vague, so constant struggle against poor design and RNG can be then interpreted as "gitting gud". >>1528380>I am hyped for next version of a game that everyone hatedTerrible shilling
>>1528381Wrong board, buddy.
>>1528381>>I am hyped for next version of a game that everyone hatedEveryone didn't hate Ride Like the Wind. The game was too short and the Beren thing was retarded. On the whole though I enjoyed it. It just made some puzzling decisions that caused the game to be less good than it could have been.
>>1523915The best results for me came from focusing purely on economics.Focus a lot on issaries during clan development. Then in game getting as many of the trade blessings permanently even if a big shrine is very expensive to maintain. Doing a couple of explore missions inside my own clan so that I get all of the crafting special goods.Besides the obligatory yearly raid (balanced clan), send as many trade missions as I can setting up the maximum number of trade roots to further increase goods production. Set as many crafters as it seems my clan can afford.Use all the good in other trade missions to try and collect all the magical items. Buy the magical items for goods, don't trade away other items. When you get enough magical items you just get into permanent windfall mode and you'll just be able to solve everything with throwing goods at the problem. Then it's just a sit patiently and do a hero quest every 3 years until you've done them all and can finish the main quest line. The issaries quest is similarly the first one to do because it gives you 3 magic items if you do the quest right. One of these is useless, but can be traded for a good one with other clans, which might help early game to get your permanent windfall going. As hero quest reward, always take either magical items or boosting your clan stats. This is the only strategy I've found that releases me from approaching the game with superstitious (which is how it was designed: you're supposed to be as superstitious as orlanthi).
>>1528380Me too. Playing during THE Great Darkness of which so many legends speak? With the added benefit of the 1st Six Ages game setting up additional plots and things for the next game to build off? I really think it will be great.>>1528469The shortness of each play through of ride like the wind is annoying but it does help prevent you from snowballing quite as much as King of Dragon Pass. You need to prioritize more long term that way. It might have been better if the timeline was softer, instead of just being about one specific pairs of Berens. Perhaps just continue what had been happening with the world growing colder so you are getting less and less food until eventually you aren’t getting enough to sustain if you just put it off forever? Oh well.
>>1528541Trade is good for any clan, especially routes and treasure hoarding. On hard you basically need to play defensively like that too. On normal though, raising combat prowess can go a long way though since taking captives can give way more goods than just trade routes and crafters. 20 captives will net you 100 goods right there from one raid. The real trick to it is to get the captives by making people raid you, since that way you aren’t wasting an action on it and instead are just getting it as a bonus. My favorite enemy is Tada the Green from Prax. It isn’t as easy as picking the Ice Demons, but it means you can summon a Praxian raid with Summons of Evil whenever you want and after a couple times they’ll attack even without summonings. With Earth Blood blessing this will get you tons of food too, and unlike trolls Praxians do pay ransom for hostages. It also lets you amass ransom goods without lowering you reputation with other Orlanthi.
I genuinely don't know shit about this game.I have so much fun just naming my clan Monteniggers, making it a war clan and raiding my neighbours into extinction.
>>1528577I finished replaying the first one again last night. There is one event that I wanted to see what would carry over. It's the Hill of Gold exploration event. In my old save from a few years ago, I prayed to Elmal and he promised to help us in our time of "greatest need". This time I sent Yatakan through it. Gonna continue from both saves to see what happens. I'm thinking it will be relevant in this game.
>>1528541You can alternatively do something similar by focusing hard on harvest buffs at first, then selling off your excess food.
>>1528659Feels like food trading works best in Ride like the Wind. Doing it in KoDP is less efficient since you need to be sending people out to do it. In RltW, you want yo trade at least once with everyone yo improve your routes so trading surplus food for goods or cows is useful since you can later trade those for treasures.
>>1528541>play hard mode>can't get a single fucking trade route for years

>>1529508Just got it.I notice at the start when you are making decisions about your clan, one of them pertains to how many generations the game is expected to last (along with a random option) so it seems you’ll have a chance to play longer than Ride Like the wind, though from the way it is phrased it is still going to be less open ended than KoDP’s ending triggers.
>>1529520Man, the intro decisions really go on for a while this time around. After the normal backstory stuff, you then get a slew of less but kinda backstory events where you make more recent decisions regarding how you are handling the deaths of the gods and the dissolving kingship situation that game starts you with.
>>1529530I see that the exploration map is way smaller in lights going out.
>>1529508How the fuck do you adjust the resolution?
Either food is fucking hard or I'm doing something wrong. 3/4 of my actions are food-related. Either appeasing food related spirits, sending foraging expeditions, trading for food, getting food blessings and I'm still almost never over 2 seasons of food storage. Six Ages 2 - Gather food for 3/4 of the game.
>>1529660By not having my birth year start with 2
>>1529679Consult >>1528541Consider it a tutorial-tier experience. Try it. Once you get hang of it, you will have the breathing space to experiment and test various other things.
>>1529681>Six ages 2>issariesI have some bad news.
>>1529686>KoDP thread>Brings SA2Play stupid games, win stupid prizes
>>1529693Don’t get mad at him for your lack of reading comprehension.
>>1529679It makes sense for good to be tough in the apocalypse I suppose.>>1529686I think I’ll restart and abandon all my temples. I’m curious what good they will do but for the time being I doubt I can afford them.
>>1529679Tame the trollkin and feed them chaos, then slaughter the trolls for meat. What could go wrong?
>>1529508Yes, it's worth it. I got it yesterday and finished a playthrough in about 9-10 hours. I found it much harder than the previous games. I was barely hanging on the whole way through whereas in the previous games I always thought it got too easy after a certain point. It's more open-ended than the first Six Ages, I think. There are a few important characters, like your king and various gifted clan members, but nothing like the story revolving around Beren. You can choose who to use for the ending events. There was also an option in the beginning that I think is game length. I chose the middle option, so not sure how long the longest option would take.
>>1529717>Implying I even bothered to read the post beyond "food hard"
>Six Ages 2Are the available food blessings even worth it? They don't seem to do anything.
>>1529952They seem to be working for me, but I am stacking them with sacred time magic and the occasional hunting venture.
>>1529952Without them you will propably just starve - it's really hard to get food this time. Only certain rituals, which you can access throug exploration, grant more powerful food blessings/modificators.
>>1530045So exploring is actually worth it now?
>>1530045I found that stacking herds is the best way to avoid starvation when combined with blessings and other bonuses. Cows produce food and more cows, and once you have a surplus of good you can trade it for more cows which produce more good that can be traded for even more cows. The only problem with too many cows is that it accelerates your pasture damage, but you can then trade the excess for treasures.
>>1530071Same, though people are always complaining about low food even as it never quite dips low enough to result in starvation.
Most of the new event art looks pretty good. Ritual art looks shitty though.
>>1530104I was noticing that the art is a big improvement over Ride like the Wind.
Finally made it out of perpetual starvation.
You can sell like half a season of food for 100 cattle. Shit is nuts.
God damn is finding the Regalia a bitch.
>>1530285I don't even see how. I've sent explorers everywhere and haven't gotten a single piece. I got an event that marked where one should be on the map, but when my explorer got there it said there was nothing.
Finally won one run of 2. Honestly don't have a clue how much I missed, and I don't even know where to look for what I could have missed. Like the regalia stuff for example.
>>1530104My wife.
>>1530217teach me your wayswhat difficulty are you on?
>>1530694The second one. I got an event to discover a hero quest of the past (an event which I never got on my previous playthrough) and basically aced it. That brought back good fields. Had no food troubles for the rest of the game.
>>1530217>1500 herdsHoly shit, how? I can barely manage to keep up 800 after Uralda dies.
>>1530701Uralda didn't die in my playthrough, though I only used the milk blessing anyways. I cattle raid pretty much nonstop and take Elmal's special blessing that restores your lost herds every time it's available.
>>1523915I wonder what's the best non-magical way to increase stats. Being on the clan ring doesn't seem to do much. Maybe spamming expeditions/diplomacy/trades is faster?
>>1530808Ritual abuse is pretty much out this time for most characters.
I think if you keep a shrine to a dead god, you keep getting potential worshipers for your clan ring. The only one I kept was Issaries and he's the only one I still get young people of. Previous game I kept Ernalda and had a lot of her worshipers as well, but none now.
>>1530692Lhankor Mhy bestows the knowledge...
>>1530940You’re probably right, though I still got one Orlanth guy, but I suspect he is meant to be special or some such. Otherwise I got no new ones spawning. You can get new ones following dead gods from other clans though.
>>1530808It seems like women are going to have the best odds at the ending, since they can do both of the ritual types to boost their stats.
I was a bit surprised how much Illumination influence there is in Lights Going Out.
Can i finally play as a full warmonger in the new one or is it still no fun allowed?
>>1531112Depends on what you mean by full warmonger.
>>1530706I find normal raids better than cattle raids. With Skirmisher blessings you can easily cripple the enemy at the start of the fight, and once they Fear your clan you can just intimidate them into running away every battle for no casualties. It can even work on bigger forces too. Once all the clans around me started to die I had to start raiding the tribes to the south which were much tougher.
>>1531349I don't do normal raids much because my shit gets cattle raided almost every time when I try them, even when sending out only about half of my force.
>>1530477I got two events for it in my last playthrough and since I was curious I tried savescumming for the regalia, but it was almost impossible to find.Next game I’m going to try to focus more on that and exploring rather than hoarding artifacts through trade. In the end the artifact hoarding was excessive and didn’t matter, they just helped me survive to the end. It seems like succeeding the Big Event chains are the important thing in the actual ending.
>>1531351Didn’t happen much for me, perhaps because they were too weak and scared of me to do it.It is really annoying how hard it is to recruit Swords in both Six Ages games.
I cheated to get 99999 herds and it still doesn't do shit for food.
>>1531346In the first game you needed to be diplomatic to form a tribe instead of taking over other clans in the second game you couldnt do much with your army other than raid for cattle, I just want to be able to brute force everything with an army
>>1531379I ended my recent run with about 1600, and my first one with about 400, and it was a huge difference. I finished with no one starving while only having to get food manually now and then, whereas the first one I was starving every season no matter what.
>>1531463Clearly it wasn't the cattle doing it then.
What does the amount of generations do at the end of clan creation and which one do i pick for ez mode?
>>1531508How long you have until the world ends. The game gets harder the longer you play.
>>1531508The ez mode option is the one that asks about the difficulty directly.A longer game is just longer. It can be easier or harder, since it could in theory give you more time for events and snowballing of artifacts and such. However it also gives you a longer time for things to go very wrong, some of the things that can happen in the great darkness are just crippling.
>>1531349normal raids are good only for magic farming via those combat tactics treasures, nothing elseyou just burn pop to get fewer cattle heads than you'd get via cattle raid AND you get fucked in the ass if you sent more than a half by others cattle raiding you
>>1531516They also get you a bit of food unlike cattle raids.
>>1531508I played the medium and the third/unknown settings. Might have just been chance, but I think medium had better structure/pacing. In that one, all the gods that should have died, did. In the unknown, only a couple of them died which made it easier overall, and the ending seemed to pop up randomly whereas in the medium one there seemed to be more build up with the chaos gods coming to tempt me more often. Also, I think it was actually shorter than the medium playthrough, because it ended when the second generation was still young for me, where as the medium setting had the second generation fairly old and I was starting to get a third generation. Not sure if it's based on pure chance or hitting milestones or something.I'll probably go with medium on future play-throughs since I enjoyed it more.
>>1531516Normal raids can get you goods, treasures and horses as well. Remember that one horse is valued at 4 cows, making them excellent for trade or emissary missions.
Whats a good strategy for raiding do i just keep raiding the same hostile clan thats next to me?
>>1530808Spammed exploration with one 20 year old guy for 10 years straight (all seasons except Dark). Didn't seem to do anything. Not a single skill went up a rank. Going to try trade and diplomacy later, but I really doubt it's any different.
>>1531603Mix it up between a few (2-3), keeping the targets all weak and fearful of you but not too weak so they don’t feud with you or cavort with Chaos. Weaken a clan too much and you’ll get less loot from raids too.Early on just focus on one. I try to avoid raiding other tribemates too.
>>1531611Did you find anything good in your explorations?
>>1531603Have more men than they do.Save a point for a raiding blessing.Make sure they have something worthwhile to nick from them. That's about it
>>15316161 treasure, a bunch of magic, some goods, cattle...
>>1531618Did you explore foreign lands or just your own?
>>1531631My own.
>>1531632I wonder if that has an impact.Did you find any of the exotic trade goods?
>>1531641No. I don't think there are any unless you find and perform the old marriage ritual.
>>1531643I think I found some before the marriage ritual. Different from the ones the other anon had, copper rather than green clay.
Holy fuck are the rituals worthless in the new game.
>>1531673>do humakt to empower the quester>it ages them 10 years>do the woman quest for empowerement>not a single stat goes up despite success
>>1531673>>1531697Humakt’s only ages you if you mess up.The bigger problem with it is that it always starts with a murder which means you need to spend another 20 goods on weregild, maybe more to throw in a gift, so your relations don’t plummet. This is in addition to the magic and other sacrifices made before the ritual. The starter rituals do seem terrible but purposefully so given the state of the world and the quest portals that can appear instead. I wonder if the Osra ritual is bugged though, I also noticed the lack of change.
>>1531734I tried every option and they all age you.
>>1531740Yeah, but only if you fail that step. If you don’t fail the test then you don’t get aged.
>>1531777Well what does the test use then?
>>1531784I dunno, each option probably tests a different thing.I normally like the last one, but I can confirm that I have gone past that step without aging a day. It actually says you age a day in reverse but that's just fluff.
Does KoDP take place before or after Six Ages? I am kinda confused about the lore of the setting
>>1531807Long before.
>>1531807>Does KoDP take place before or after Six Ages? I am kinda confused about the lore of the settingKoDP takes place long after the Six Ages games. The two games out are in the pre-history mythical times, known as the God Times, that the Lore section of King of Dragon Pass talks about. Time literally didn't exist yet as we would known it, which is why you sometimes have people talk about things that hadn't happened yet in those games. It is a bit of a shame the games didn't do more to integrate this,Ride like the Wind takes place during the Storm Age, the great era for the Orlanthi known as the Lesser Darkness to others, where Orlanth was King of the Gods.Lights Going Out takes place during the next age, the Great Darkness. After this the Gods and people saved the world and remade creation, with a great compromise that involved creating Time. Things before are myth, things after are history. In History, the 1st age is the Dawn Age, the time after the first Dawn in the remade world. This age is most notable for the Gbaji wars. The 2nd age is the Imperial age, the time of the God Learners and the EWF.The 3rd age, known as the Modern Age since most of the setting stuff in the tabletop is set here, is when King of Dragon Pass takes place. Finally is the 4th age, the Heroic Age. This is when the Hero Wars take place.Altogether, Six Ages. Though there were others before storm too.>>1531814You have that backward.
>>1530808>>1531611Spammed trade missions for 10 years straight with a 20 year old. Didn't do shit for his stats.I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that diplomacy is the same. I've got no idea how stat gain works. People seem to just randomly gain stats. Sometimes ring members get overtaken by random other members who haven't done shit.

>>1531911I didn't know what that meant ok.

Why am i not allowed to raid every season if i have a ton of swords, i should be able to cattle raid at least?
>>1524769i kinda disliked Ride Like the Wind because of how more vague it was and how easier it was to fuck up making decisions compared to KoDP. it was fun exploring the deeper parts of the worldbuilding in Glorantha though

uhh what did they mean by this?
>>1532348don't look up Nandan bro...
>>1532348>>1532355>It feels like Less of Greg’s esoteric monomythic roles gender shamanism and more if the modern take. The game has Osra for example, which has the same thing going on for Elmal as Vinga does for Orlanth and Nanden for Ernalda. Yet followers of Osra aren’t referred to as men in game. Conflating it with the modern day gender movements is a rather gross misrepresentation.
>>1532381sounds like cope to me
Finally beat it, is there any benefit to having your tribe be well off for the ending? Seems like you just need good character stats and magic
>>1532407Just like in the other two games, not really.
>>1532397How so?Everyone loves Vingans. But think back to KoDP, they are clearly identified as female. There is a clan the game states is known for their Vingan queens, not Vingan Kings.
>>1532416It was more useful in KoDP and to a lesser extent Ride like the Wind since you still had to do some clan related events at the end. In Lights Going Out that doesn’t really matter much, which is fitting in a way, but still disappointing at the same time. The importance of keeping your clan string is to ensure you can make it to the ending, not so much what happens during the ending itself which seems to rely much more on quester stats and the completion of storylines during the game.
>>1532442Nah, you could win KoDP with 400 cows to your name.
>>1532455Don’t you get the Clan dispersement bad end of your cows or population get too low?
>>1532463That's the case in all 3 games. But you can still get pretty low before it happens.
how much harder does the game become if you choose the ram people as ancestral enemies? I reckon it might make the lategame a pain in the ass
>Beren and Redalda blessingWhy do I get this text sometimes in some events? Only happens on my imported save file.
>>1523915Say we have a trickster and he has excellent martial and ok leadership, he gives trickster blerbs and trickster events but if he is a high level warrior too he can now mop the floor with your enemies. A trickster isn't normally a warrior but you would be a fool to place a weaker martial guy as your war leader.Your clan ring leaders are the people involved in events the most, so not enough warriors means weak military, not enough leaders mean weaker chances of success in commanding and leading, not enough magic users means you won't be good at dealing with spirits and other shit.Remember that each god rules specific domains. there are many war gods, but they are all different. Prefer Orlanth and Humakt for my war gods, but I always make sure I invest into Chalana Arroy and Bartna too. Uralda the cow mother is also very smart. As you expand temples, they give you more devoties as they can afford to sponsor more of the tribes hopeful God talkers. Think of the Temples like academies. You learn the misterys of the cult and ensure they stay sacred, so you get great weapon thanes for Humakt, and win duels and make oaths. Orlanth you get high leader ship warriors. Men of the common People. Uralda is a peace god, gives you big titty cow women so you can care for cows better with high animals. Urox is again a war god and gives you Uroxi so you can protect those herds from chaos. Each leader is picked from a possible pool generated by what temples you have, how advanced they are, what blessing you picked, how many sacrifices you made to each god, also dependent on population. Each stat points to specific advice for events and chances of success, many war leaders, many war, much plunder. No war leaders? Lose every fight. No Humakt? No one takes your oaths seriously, and you don't either. You also lose duels all the time.It so much more about how you are worshiping your gods and if you are feeding your temples so you get better heros.
>>1532606In the previous games being nice to your enemies wasn't that big of a deal, you'd just lose some magic.
>>1532612Depending on what blessing you picked at the end of the first game. I picked the common cause with enemies blessing, and get magic every time I send out an emissary.

I am playing KoDP, each Hunter handles 4 Wildlands, is that correct? How do I ratio my farmers? The amount of farmers I have handle both pastures and croplands, but then the pastures will depend on the amount of cattle? Some advisors also mention oxen. How do I properly set the amount I need and check for growth?
>>1533910Check the manual. If it's not there, then ask your advisors. If they're not saying anything about it, then it's ok.
>>1523915>To this day I still don't really understand the effect of leader stats. All information I can find on it is incredibly vague. >Even in hero quests success seems to be a complete crapshoot regardless of the quester's stats>>1523950>This is precisely the vague information I was referring to.The same applies to all of these: better stats increase your chance of success, but do never guarantee it. Chances may also be influenced by other background factors, e.g. sacred time blessings, divine blessings, clan magic level, how recently you last attempted a heroquest when it comes to those... any number of things.
>>1526050>Spending magic on battles is a waste, max it on war at the beginning of the year so it helps on every battle.>>1526800This part isn't strictly trueIt's true that if you want the best chance to win battles across the year, then obviously you max out the sacred time war blessingBut using magic in battle directly can have decisive effects as well, ESPECIALLY if you put points into it in sacred time, because each point in the war blessing actually MULTIPLIES the effect you get from using magic in battle. It can really make or break a fight.
>>1534028No, the effect of putting points in War during Sacred Time is identical to the effect of spending Magic directly before a battle, and they stack.

I really did like this game. I think the hardest thing to do ingame is kill Dagda during the heroquest.

>>1534228Fertile fields.
>>1534228Gross. Maran gor is the best god in the game with blood for food blessing.
this humakti bitch keeps dying on exploration missions. Kallyr would NEVER
>>1534204What difficulty? Only played on normal so it might not apply to anything higher but here is my advice: During Sacred Time prioritize Fields, Pastures, and Wilds no matter what. Does not matter if you are planning on raiding or doing ceremonies, always max those first. Prioritize getting herds high. I had about 1500. You can find a Cheese spirit that produces food based on herds that helps take over when Uralda dies. When Uralda does die, you can sacrifice to her in that event to get a blessing that lasts some years. Berry and Heron are good if you have nothing else to do that season. They don't produce enough food for a whole season, but they help offset the amount you eat for that season which helps stretch the food you do have longer. Keep the Ernalda shrine at the start. Do the Orlanth and Ernalda wedding and bless your fields. In general, take any blessing that helps your food, including the Balurgan and Hanth hunter one.Prioritize getting Dostal, Inillal, and Uralda shrines and pick the blessings that produce food. Every now and then you should supplement your food with either Foraging or Trading. You won't produce enough otherwise. I find one successful Forage every 3 or so years is enough. Do it even if you are not low on food.Regarding foraging...I try to send an Inilla worshipper with high food skill to the nearest river. It works about 50% of the time, but typically only once a year. If I try sending more than one a year, they all fail. I also do Foraging and Hunting ventures. Hunting ventures with Hanth have a better chance to succeed. Neither provide food right away, but improve your hunters/foragers for a year. Early game when you have two ventures, this is a good use of one if there is nothing else critical. Late game you lose a venture, but you should have more blessings and spirits to help make up for it. Also never give food away.
i only managed to reach the part where you start re-enacting the 'elmal guards the stead' before disbanding (more precisely, after killing the author of sores), is that close to the endgame?
>>1534252Yes, a few years away from the ending.
How important is it to have all gods -or as many as possible- represented on the ring? Should I choose a clan member with mediocre stats over one with great stats if the former worships a god not already represented on my ring?
>>1534500It gives you extra points of magic every year, and lets you spend it on more things during Sacred Time. Whether that's more important than raw skills is hard to say, but probably not.
I'm playing Ride Like the Wind and I have absolutely zero idea how combat works. I've tried adding magic during sacred time, during the battle, I've tried doing magic prep during the battle or skirmishing or rushing, trying to be more vicious when I have more soldiers, trying to be safer when I have less, and no matter what I always lose, I really don't get it
>>1533307I got two pieces on my last run.
>>1534529It also helps when heroquesting/doing rituals, but that is less important in Lights Going Out.
>>1534567Take advantage of an opportunity > Fight cleverly/fiercely/carefully > everything else. How often the specific options appear and their success rate depends on your war leader's skill (which is boosted by the magic you spent on the battle+sacred time).
>>1534580Skirmishing is amazing if you have the two blessings for it.
>>1534577Even in SA2 is important, I'd say, since it passively helps all your clan does (ie having an issaries worshipper helps trade)
>>1534580>>1534581>not berserk fighting at every chanceWhat are you, some weeder sissy?

Do you suffer a penalty to your harvests for raiding during sea/earth season if you only send swords? They are full-time soldiers anyways
>>1534652Should work but you could only do cattle raids. But the farmers might protest for raiding during planting/harvesting season.
>>1534652>>1534656Also unless you have a shitload of swords, sending enough of them out at once to handle a cattle raid with no backup would probably leave you pretty vulnerable to a surprise raid with reduced defenders. AI also loves doing sneaky cattle raids in situations like that, apparently they have some kinda faggy radar to know any time you send out a lot of guys.

>antler society turned out to be chaos worshippersAfter all the times i stood up for them
>>1534886The game heavily hinted at it.
>>1534869Seems like an elaborate fucking joke. I've never encountered an event where it caused a real problem.
>played game entirely being anti chaos>go raid a tribe and get some event about smoke forming and use it as cover because i didnt think much of it>im now branded as a chaos worshipper and everyone wants to kill meebin
>>1534936>this smoke that came out of nowhere? Not chaotic at all my dudes, let's make use of it
>>1534942Your main god is the deity of fire and it's not like there couldn't be other sources of supernatural smoke in Glorantha, like dragons or magic. Still, it's probably his fault for not reading the event.
>>1534948Yes, the battle description is pretty explicit that it is weird green chaos smoke, right?
Six Ages has some fantastic art, holy shit.
>>1534896Occasionally it can cause stuff like mood reduction, and anyway every time you get an event about the king being a little bitch it means you didn't get some other event. Of course that could be a good or bad thing.>>1535338Much like in KoDP it's quite a big part of the game's core appeal. Gorgeous stuff.
Just saw a ring member dating a filthy ram. It's over, the clan has fallen. Millions must ride
>>1535577Their children would become evil sorcerers, they must kill themselves.
I'm almost entirely convinced at this point that royalty is just one big prank. Why is there a king at all? I thought Orlanthi hated those.
>>1536742>Why is there a king at all? I thought Orlanthi hated those.Orlanth is KING of the Storm TRIBE, why would they hate kings?Begone, Doubting Wheel!
>>1536742The Orlanthi in Dragon Pass didn't have kings because they had only recently migrated there to escape Pharaoh's tyranny. Only one tribe with a king had formed in the beginning of the game since all the tribes had escaped on their own.
Why is there so much shitty rng in this game every event is just rng and in combat where you vastly outnumber the enemy you still lose like half the time
>>1536886Because shit happens in life.
>>1536886It's an issue of skill.
Is it ever worth it to use thralls?
>>1536938Can't you use them instead of cows for sacrifice?
>>1536976I'm sure Chalana Arroy will love it. As I understand it, human sacrifice offends everyone in the Dragon Pass, but you can use it to quickly and cheaply unlock Humakti blessings. It's still probably not worth it, ten-fifteen goods/cows is usually enough to unlock any blessing or mystery, and you can reduce it to around seven with Kero Fin Kite.
>>1536886just use magic bro
>>1536938After playing the game repeatedly, I really don’t think so which is a shame. It is cool to be able to take them but Thrall taking really pisses off other clans and having thralls gets you lots of bad events. The real reason they’re bad though is how they impact your population. From what I have seen Thralls still get counted toward your population in regard to determining when the game tries to force clan splits on you. They only use half food and count nearly as much to work as a farmer but it isn’t worth it at the cost of your population. You are much better off just ransoming captives for the huge stacks of goods it gives.
>>1536886I'd say >>1536889 is right in several ways actually. The biggest single factor in combat across all 3 games is your warleader's combat skill. It's frankly hard to lose battles with a heroic warleader. Less than renowned, and it is hard to win battles.
If you're ever struggling with an activity just dump as much cattle/goods/magic into it as possible.
>>1537333This. Also works in the games.
>started my run with cheese spirit and earthworm spiritpic related, my clan members
if the entire word is covered in dark clouds how can people still grow crops in LGO
>>1537559>he doesn't know about cropsnobleman, swerve
>>1537559Not all of the grain goddesses are dead yet.
>>1534860>>1536742Royalty is:1-Canon: If Venef is assasinated you get an automatic bad ending in which Berenstead collapses. In the canon of Glorantha Venef the Stallion is one of the survivors of the Great Darkness, king and friend with Heort.2-The royal regalia makes you, if I remember correctly, far more respectable and legitimate on the eyes of other clans.3-Collecting the two avaliable pieces also helps a lot befriending Heort in the endgame.4-A royalist clan is more prone to seek alliances, meet the other clans and push their weight around by claiming leadership and prominence about the rest. This is epic and helps you a lot in the lategame. And honestly, to throw all the things Beren, Redalda and your clan fought for in the previous game just because Iverlantho and Venef are very flawed seems quite short sighted and cringe. Also, if you take them to the endgame they both get a lot of character development, overcoming their flaws. And again, being violently anti-royal will net you a bad end. Being violently royalist doesn't.
>>1537555Something to do other than ventures during Dark season.
Can someone explain to me how to speed up the endgame?Actually bothered to playthrough a long game for once. Have formed a tribe and had a kween for about 35 years now. Have been putting magic into Destiny every year and done every quest but have only gotten a single endgame event of some random bitch saying she was prophecied to be the ruler of Dragon pass so I killed her with lightning. Is there any way I can encourage the endgame to actually fucking happen or am I just cursed by rng to never get the eventsWould be mega gay if it actually starts to happen a few years from now because my queen is decrepit so she'll probably cork it and I'll get cucked and lose the next election
>>1537878Did you max out the "tribal respect" meter?
>>1537719Is it even possible for iverlantho to live long enough to reach the endgame? Also, it is funny to think not focusing on royalty and instead focusing on survival is short-sighted when a recurring theme in the games has been to embrace change when the situation requires to change ways and the main gods of orlanthi and riders are also about change (hyalor telling riders that every rule can be broken when survival is at stake and orlanth being a god of change)
>>1537559Glorantha is ruled by magic, not physics
>>1537867I’m a bit annoyed by the six ages games even having seasons and a sacred time, since that should only be in history rather than gods time. It would be hard to implement that though if they wanted it to be like KoDP.
>>1537948Anon, the "there wasn't time before Arachne Solara" originates only in the Heortling myths and is in turn openly contradicted by the Dara Happan understanding of reality. That it was taken as truth by the God Learners and thus universalized doesn't mean it actually reflected reality. IMO "lack of time" refers far more to the divine realities of the God's War and the understanding of mortals than literally living in a state where all things were happening at once. More important, it refers to the perception modern mortals have of those times rather than the actual experience of the pre-historic peoples. Remember that Beren, a man living in between seasons and ruling "within history" (from our perspective in the first game) is nevertheless shown as part of the timeless divine realm in the sequel. One can't take stuff writen by a shaman at face value, or rather, nor as the only way.
I got the event with the pregnant (with redalda) vingkot priestesses while beren had already met redalda, therefore time is not real
>he ate the dried goat meat

>>1538095If you did any before the prophecy maybe you have to do them again.
>>1538105I did them all after, as in I have done them again and they are all starred
>>1537878>>1538075>>1538095>>1538111Where exactly do you currently stand? Have you gotten any events to do with building a town at all? Generally that should just follow from you being king AFAIK.
What does the spirit of spirits do? The "helps us in the direst of times" is too vague for my liking
>>1538027Sometimes those Ergeshites can really get your goat!
>>1538161I think stuff like that is meant to help at the end of the game, like how the horse skull and motion rune banner in KoDP did .
>>1537935>Is it even possible for iverlantho to live long enough to reach the endgame? If you use some youth blessings? Yes, but imo is better to just let him go naturally.>Also, it is funny to think not focusing on royalty and instead focusing on survival is short-sightedIMO, your mistake here (and the realist mistake in general) is to assume that both are not possible when they actually are. There is nothing preventing a clan that pursues royal restoration from also surviving and even thriving for a bit. Again: the royalist path focuses on how you relate to other clans and about taking leadership. The implied (even if not always present) selfishness of the realist path is not only hindering (because allies are actually useful, and allies that see you as their leader even more), but also suicidal if taken to its logical conclusion (Berenstead collapsing).By using "change" as justification one can easily fall into Chaos, also. Several clans in the valley become orcs precisely because of that mindset.
>>1538213Orlanthi are interesting since they are pretty wild and freedom obsessed on an individual level while opposing cosmic chaos compared to people like the Lunare that accept cosmic chaos while being very strict, controlling and orderly.I suppose the Orlanthi are very tradition-bound, with their free wheeling natures coming more from that being their tradition at the heart of their 4 core rules. Plus Glorantha chaos isn’t “freedom”, it is “Nothing”.
>>1538141I have not no the only endgame stuff I've gotten (that Im aware) was someone else trying to become queen of the pass and dying and I helped another clan make peace with the Telmori but that was before I even formed a tribe
>>1538230Saraska isn't tied to the endgame as such I think. She's an impostor, guaranteed to fail, and will always end up dying one way or another. You haven't had the tribal war yet? Is this the telmori event you had?https://kingofdragonpass.fandom.com/wiki/Wolfskin-clad_Raiders
>>1538230>>1538235Anyway, without waiting for you to answer my question, the only explanation I can think of is that you got the tribal war event, but failed to resolve it the right way. AFAIK the path here is linear, the only correct solution is broker peace between the warring tribes and get them to agree to build a town. If you don't accomplish that, the endgame won't progress.
which gods should I aim for when going through them rifts?
>>1528240I mean, both are valid vis--a-vis the game strategy. But, you are implying that you are limited to being a "tribe" but the way that anon plays is how the Barbarian kingdoms of Europe became...Kingdoms. Being a bronze-age shitter does not mean you are incapable of centralization. Your CK2 example is also confusing since that game is - you are in charge. You are not stuck in some "oh at this point in history you should not be super centralized!!!" - human history vis-a-vis government is "in general" (big scare quotes) moving toward centralization, states who stayed de-centralized without adapting, or who kept fragmenting don't tend to last historically. That was trueenough in the Bronze age, and it remained true into modernity.
all the clans mock me for forgetting the song and the only clue i have is that of vingkot
>>1538436Do you mean "Lost in the Underworld" heroquest events in KoDP?
>>1538608I think he means the rifts that appear on the exploration map that let you choose between 2 different god's quests in Lights Going Out.
>>1538161>>1538177I beat the game with the spirit of spirits and it never showed up in the final year when everything dies
>>1538834I wish the game would be more explicit about what Spirit of Spirit blessing and the "end of the world" blessing from the Troll Cragspider do.I assume it's a passive modifier to some of those checks during the endgame or some shit like that. Both Six Ages games actually have shitloads of modifiers to rolls under the hood on most checks. And I only know about it because of autistic dataminers.I really do think people would have a better opinion of the games if, when you mouseover one of the choices it, there would be a screen showing you modifiers a la Disco Elysium. It doesn't even have to show percent, just show what's modifying it.
>>1538840>Both Six Ages games actually have shitloads of modifiers to rolls under the hood on most checks. And I only know about it because of autistic dataminers. Can you post a link? Sounds interesting.
>>1538840i suppoose keeping things intentionally obscure/vague is their attempt at making the players roleplay instead of minmaxxing and choosing only the options that have the greatest amount of positive modifiers
>>1538847Check out the guides that Lyre of Sheliak wroteFor example: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2332901754I saw some of the discussion on r*ddit, and the values were found via inspecting debug info. Like the test vs. Shargash. Under the hood, the option "With a call to brotherhood" is a test of oration vs fear. What's oration? Apparently diplomacy + lore. Fear test can be modified by other things, like according to the guide the Sakkar spirit. And then there are other modifiers, like who your ancestral enemy is.The game tells you absolutely none of this, so players bitch about it being RNG. Which it IS in fact RNG, but not pure RNG. I'm sure the reasons for not giving up the info are what >>1538849 posted. What I would like to see is something like picrel, only without the final percentage. Just show me that some of these spirits and shit are actually doing something, otherwise I have no idea if any of it is worth it.
What the fuck does putting magic into Fields actually do? It doesn't seem to have any effect on harvest output. Is it just a bonus towards not fucking up the planting or something?

>why yes, I make Venef ruler of the tribe, ignore his indecisive and cowardly advice, raise his stats at every opportunity, make him fight all three chaos monsters to become Elmal, and keep him as the last survivor to save the world for the canon ending, how can you tell?
>>1538881>Maybe that's locked me out of that main event. That definitely shouldn't be possible. The plot does involve a phase of making peace with the Telmori, but you do that on behalf of all Orlanthi and those events only occur after the town is built. If you haven't had any events to do with the other 2 tribes being in conflict I really dunno, that should happen if you're tribal ruler and have done the heroquests after tribal founding and the prophet visiting you. Maybe your game has somehow entered a bugged state if that's not happening.
>>1538881>>1539005Oh and I found your Telmori event, nothing to do with the main story but I think making peace with them here should help you with the endgame, if anything.https://kingofdragonpass.fandom.com/wiki/Raid_Invitations

Never played a game like this. What am I in for. Is it worth it? Is it replayable?
>>1540156It's a pretty unique and interesting game. Worth it. re-playable. Its mechanics are not explicit so you might feel disoriented and without purpose, thus I'd suggest to google or wiki some of its terms. In any case, its mechanics presentation is intentional given that you are supposed to get immersed into the settings logic and culture, which can feel kind of psychedelic and ambiguous.
>>1540169I still don't get why this game is unique. Not that I think it's not unique. I just don't understand why no one has made anything like it after all these years.
>>1523915Very Kino game, but I'm not actually sure how you'd beat it without much trial and error.
>>1540243Because actually having to immerse yourself and roleplay your character is too hard for normies.

Why are goats suddenly chaotic in LGO when everyone was raising them with no problems in RLtW?

>>1540625>Why are goats suddenly chaotic in LGO when everyone was raising them with no problems in RLtW?Good question. Here is a picture of the Mad God, Ragnaglar, of the Unholy Trio as described in Orlanthi Myths.

>>1540748If your war leader sucks then dump more magic into the battle.
>>1538161I remember seeing at least one prompt for summoning spirits in the end quest. Maybe that's when it helps?
>>1540625What is chaotic depends on your beliefs, so when you are Orlanthi goats are chaotic to you, because of Ragnaglar, but to Riders goats are normal animals. Chaos comes from breaking social taboos. In consequence, when you adopt Rider clan in Six Ages 2 they slaughter their goats to conform to your clan's taboos.
>>1542455>Chaos comes from breaking social taboos.Chaos also comes from Chaos itself, as they purposefully try to cause it. Kajabor was a chaos god despite having no will or personality or self.
>broo is given a conscience by the weeder hag>immediately becomes overcome with grief for all the bad things he did to the weedersEither the weeders are beyond pathetic or chaospawn like broos are not inherently evil
>>1542750having a conscience is not an inherent state for them
Sending half your clan out on expeditions is a good way to save some food.
>>1542877Also a good way to lose half your clan and have the other half raided to death. The amounts of times i savescummed because kerenna died while exploring right next to the clan's lands is unreal
>>1543375Exploring seems incredibly tough in Lights Going Out. I suppose it makes sense given what is happening but still.I was testing with savescumming to see what exotic goods could be found in the clan lands and wasn’t finding any, though I found one in a previous game and saw someone with another. Someone said they only show up after doing the marriage ritual so I will test again after that.
>>1542750>>1542756Broos are inherently Chaotic. You could ask if that is the same as truly being inherently evil, but on that way of thought lies Illumination or worse. In history, after the god time, there is actually a chalana arroy worshipping Broo, the Wild Healer of the Rockwood. However that is extraordinarily rare and special, rarer even than Illumination because it has cleansed itself of its chaos taint. But Chaos is an inherent part of a Broos’s being, like the heart or nervous system of a human in our world. Greg talked about this back in day regarding questions about if Ogres could be purified and brought up that Broo. The secret to it is that when the Chaos rune is taken out it needs to be replaced with something else and the end result is that the Broo or Ogre stops being a Broo or ogre, mythically becoming something else. There is a semi-famous example of this from the Great Darkness, The Cleansed One, a hero cult of the river god Zora Fel. The Cleansed One was a conventional broo of the Praxian wastes, who somehow became aware of the horror of his Chaotic condition. Rather than take out his self-loathing on the world like many other self-aware Chaos entities, this unnamed broo sought to drown himself in the waters of the Zola Fel to end his existence. Rather than drown him though, the river showed mercy: Zola Fel allowed the broo to breathe his waters, and walk on his riverbed. The broo followed Zola Fel's course to the ocean, and from there followed the river's current into the deeps, where by some mysterious agency of the Water powers he was purified of Chaos. He returned to the river a whole, unmutated broo, either as his kind were before they were cruelly changed by the Unholy Trio, or as something new as the water rune replaced his chaos one. There is even a Heroquest that can be done to mimic this for curing chaos taint.I suspect the weeders giving a Broo a conscience is in part a reference to this water rune myth.

Does exploration have an actual effect on the stability of the world, like chalana arroy tells you?
>>1543922You think she's lying or something?
>>1543922I think some of the stuff you can do while exploring can have an impact on your options in the endgame events.
>>1543923>>1544015I mean, i assume that lorewise she is right, but i was asking if exploring a lot had an actual gameplay effect (aside from the things you can find), like reducing the rate at which tiles get CHAOS'D
>>1543805I mean, all the games have a sort of fixed duration so it wouldn't make much sense
>>1544112>the rate at which tiles get CHAOS'DHas anyone figured out what affects this?In one of my runs I was being a giant asshole and raiding the shit out of my neighbors. Teghern showed up and thanked me for being an unwitting agent of Chaos. I wonder if what I was doing actually was increasing the rate of tiles disappearing. This could be interesting because there is an achievement for winning the game with Iverlantho as king. Obviously that means do the short game and getting youth blessings on him. But if you can speed up getting to the endgame, that would help too.
>>1544112Exploring helps keep the number of bandits down which makes it safer for your traders and emissaries.
You anons are pretty fucking cool. I'm shocked to see a thread about KoDP. It's one of all time favorites. I stumbled upon it during lockdowns during wintertime. Was *so* fucking comfy to play this (the original I picked up from GoG) with the music, art, the lore. Really felt like I was the dickhead chieftan of some Iron Age clan of slavers. Also, FUCK that ogre queen bitch in the northernmost reaches of the map. I sent in a giga-heroic warrior (the girl who comes to your tribe as a child and is prophesized to be a great warrior) with top magic and combat in, with a bunch of weaponthanes and soldiers, to destroy her and got rekt every time.Is there some way to actually kill that ham-planet before she just vaporizes my whole exploration party with a single gesture?
>>1544512There are semi-regular threads on this board. Most of them turn out pretty well.>Is there some way to actually kill that ham-planet before she just vaporizes my whole exploration party with a single gesture?I don't think it's possible honestly. The Cragspider is an actual demigod in Gloranthan lore. Also, while you're here, have you played the Six Ages games? More KoDP from the same core dev team, just in different time periods than KoDP. The first one was a little underwhelming, but I actually have really enjoyed Lights Going Out.I feel like a lot of people who want to know about the Six Ages games don't know. You'd think with a publisher there would have been better marketing.
>>1544512Nope. Cragspider is one level under the actual gods, ancient immortal demigoddess with mighty magic and many trolls under her command.
>>1544534Man, I love the Glorantha setting. I did a bit of googling and had no idea it was a tt setting. Makes sense and explains how this lore is so fleshed out. I was actually shocked at first when I played it, how detailed the myths interactions between factions seemed to be, but that explained it. Would be pretty fucking sick to find a group for RuneQuest, although it'll likely never, ever happen as I have a hard enough time just finding a group for pathfinder kek>The Cragspider is an actual demigod in Gloranthan lore. That makes sense. Thanks man. That part actually made me savescum like a dirtbag over and over, trying to force a result or try it with different configurations of nobles/thanes/soldiers etc. Figured that maybe if I sent in the right one worshipping a certain god, I could beat her.Yes, I played Six Ages and while I really liked it, I didn't like it quite as much as KoDP. Perhaps because KoDP was my first game of this type. Dude I had no idea there was a sequel to Six Ages, I'm about to go buy that shit right the fuck now
>>1544534How is Lights Going Out? NTA but I loved KoDP but could never get into Six Ages, felt like there was just too much shit going on
>>1544544Lights Going out is Six Ages but harder.
>>1544512>Is there some way to actually kill that ham-planet before she just vaporizes my whole exploration party with a single gesture?Nope, she is a Demigod. She could be an actual deity if she wanted to be but it would put too many limitations on her. For record, she has a full Mythical True Dragon as as a pet/ally, the same kind from the DragonKill War where the mountains in Dragon Pass stood up. In setting she has been around since the god times and continued into the dawn ages. She is way beyond what your clan can handle, though if you play your cards right you can appease her to make peace with the trolls. In the old, old, Dragon Pass Board Game from 1980 she was one of the most potent units since she had two of the "nukes", her Pillar of Fire and her Black Dragon.Fun fact: Chaos Witch Quelaag from Dark Souls is inspired by the Cragspider. Hidetaka Miyazaki had played the Dragon Pass board game and mentioned it as the inspiration. In Japan, Quelaag's name is even directly Fire Witch CragSpider. Glorantha had some popularity back in the day in Japan and the publisher, Chaosium, is still top dog there in table top RPGs since they publish Call of Cthulu.
>>1544540>That part actually made me savescum like a dirtbag over and over, trying to force a result or try it with different configurations of nobles/thanes/soldiers etc.In the original version of KoDP the cragspider was a useful way of refreshing your nobles by killing off useless ones, and if you were a troll hating clan you'd also get some magic in the process. This is because the game was bugged. There was a troll version of the "Clan destruction" events, like you can get from ticking off the ducks, if you fuck up and tick off the trolls enough. I know you get the warning in the original but I don't think you can actually get the game over event for it. That isn't the case in the updated version and she will show up at your Tula and wipe it out if you bother her enough.
>>1544544>could never get into Six Ages, felt like there was just too much shit going onWhat do you mean by that? As in there are more things calling for your attention and options at any one time? I always felt that was a benefit compared to KoDP.
>>1544544Six Ages Ride like the Wind, the first one, was great for showing a different aspect on the time of myths, since you get to actually play through them. Lots of the stuff you come to know from KoDP shows up as actually happening in the two Six Ages game, especially Lights Going Out.
>>1544540>I did a bit of googling and had no idea it was a tt setting. Makes sense and explains how this lore is so fleshed out. I was actually shocked at first when I played it, how detailed the myths interactions between factions seemed to be, but that explained it.A bit different. It was a setting first, then got used for different games. First a War Game, then a Board Game, then some different Tabletop RPGs. Unfortunately the original creator is died (but not before he made a huge setting guide that has just about all the important information set out together for the setting) and the guy in charge of it in the Tabletop space now is making some rather annoying changes to things to fit his own preferences.

>>1544845>FUCK, it got me so stressed I made a deal with the snake dude for food...Your hunger isn't real anon.
>>1543922My successful run felt much shorter than my failed ones and i didn't do much exploring on that one. Hell, I didn't even get chalana arroy to die before chaos consumed everything
>>1543922It at the very least affects how much you can reweave in the endgame.
When do we get to play as the chad lunar empire? I want muh illumination
>>1546408You can already get illuminated in Lights Going Out.
>>1544996You can build temple to Redalda in LGO and one of unique nobles is Redalda's cultist and descendant (other than the royal line)
>>1546411Wait what. How
Playing LGO a few times, I got the hang of it where on normal difficulty it's pretty easy. Nothing compares to the first playthrough when you barely survive on your last leg. My clan was starving and threatening to disband every couple years as I scrambled doing what I could to survive. Really made the ending feel so much more triumphant.
I wish all the unique clan members a very speedy recovery. Their shoulders must be hurting badly from carrying the entire fucking valley
>>1546682>unique clan membersThey really went overboard on those this time:KODP HAS>KallyrThat’s it. Derek doesn’t go on the ring nor does the cursed tusk raider fella.Ride like the wind has>Beren>the fire siblings, one of which can be traded away>MAYBE the wheel woman but she is not at all guaranteedMeanwhile Lights going out starts you with>the king>the woodcarver>the super shaman lady>the super redalda lady>the super humakti>the super hunter DostaliThat is 6 characters locked down of your 7 on the ring. If you don’t include them, the game gives you events complaining about it. And when they get old, their nearly identical kids come along to replace them. There are some other ones you can get too I think when other tribes join yours but who has room?It can make the game feel much more samey and cuts down on some of the old recycled generic personalities. Like in KODP there were councilors that would endlessly quote empty proverbs, or hated undead or elves. Ride like the wind had them too like the goat obsessed guy.Lights going out probably does too but it is hard to know without shooting yourself in the foot by benching your super nobles that you get immediately at the beginning of the game.
>>1546777Yeah they definitely overdid it. I think the kings would have been fine, but the rest are too much. Wouldn't be as annoying if they didn't take up so many slots and also give you negative events for not using them. I always enjoyed training up nobodies in KoDP and RLtW
>>1546825Yeah, with generic clan members you build up your own stories and plot lines for them.
>>1546449Dunno, but there is a secret achievement for one of your nobles achieving illumination.
>>1546777Ackshually, their personalities are sometimes randomised - for example shaman lady in one playthrough can be a royalist and in second: realist. Also you don't have to put them on the ring: sometimes it's even bad, because you aggravate their rival political faction. And they don't really have much better statistics than randomised councillors: I think only Kerenna can become renowned/heroic in short time.
Any ideas on how much of a bonus blessings provide? 1 point? An entire rank of stats' worth?
>>1546870Definitely not a rank. Even when backed by a ton of magic and blessings you can seldom get a raid win with anything below Renowned/Heroic.
Anyone beat the hardest difficulty yet? How did you do it?
>>1546836>>1546449Probably the conclusion to serenden's (the woodcarver) quest. I have never managed to complete it, jobber always dies when he goes with the portal people
>>1547889I completed that one but didn’t get any Illumination from it, though I may have made the wrong choices.I play with achievements off but I’ve seen two things that seem illumination candidates If you go through a portal to quest for the gods, one potential scene is an encounter with Gorpgod. One of the choices is telling it to exist in a different way. This normally fails but I have seen it succeed, wherein it exists in a non-chaotic fashion with a message stating the nobles mind is filled with strange insight into the world. The other is during the endgame, during the temptation of Terghan where you can realize the Teller of Lies is hollow and scared of the world that isn’t real
>>1547919I've done the second one and seemingly succeeded. No achievement. Teghern was given pause, briefly questioning his purpose of destroying the world, if the world wasn't real. My character went on to finish the endgame.
>>1547924Good to know it isn’t that one though.Still one of my favorite interactions in the game.
Best SA1 endgame buff for SA2?
>>1547988I found the chaos fighting one is useful and practical. There is a lot of that around.I need to go back and try some of the others. I think someone said the unity one gave magic whenever an emissary was sent, but I dunno if that is as handy as the chaos one which I imagine will come up more passively in events.
The fuck is an illumination. Lorefags?
>>1548060>The fuck is an illumination. Lorefags?Illumination is a trick by Chaos to fool people into accepting it. If you see someone promoting it then they are clearly one of the evil Riddling Priests of Gbaji! Kill them quickly, before they change forms!
>>1548060Illumination is a mystical process of enlightenment that was first introduced to Glorantha by Nysalor and spread by the Bright Empire. Very little of that empire has survived into the Third Age, and Nysalor’s Secret Doctrines are almost entirely lost. But the Lunar Empire has resurrected worship of Nysalor, and Illumination is a major part of the Lunar Way.The story of Illumination says that it was the first, the First Being, the entity that existed even before existence. When existence began, Illumination was lost. It was rediscovered by Yelm, the Emperor of the Universe, who had always been the One, above and beyond the rest of existence. When he was slain by Orlanth, he was just one of the Many dead who were lost in the Underworld. Realising this, Yelm was enlightened, and the universe could finally be recreated. The One is Many. The Many is One. Being able to comprehend this is the basis of Illumination. It’s difficult for non-Illuminated beings to understand what Illumination is like, but at its core it’s a realisation that there are no barriers between the self and the world. Everything is part of one whole. The laws of culture and religion become meaningless, and an Illuminate can defy even the strictures of their cult and suffer no comeuppance. Even the pains of the material world can be surmounted through Illumination.Illumination is freeing and empowering. It allows even creatures of Chaos to rise above their base nature. But with Illumination comes the danger of Occlusion, the empowered solipsism that plagued the Bright Empire.
>>1548060>>1548069>continuedFor an Illuminate, they are above all morality, theology and even the world itself. The only limit that applies to them is the extent of their will, so they will often disregard others in pursuit of their goals. A selfish Illuminate will see people as tools to further their goals. A good-hearted Illuminate may still have other peoples’ best interests in mind, but they will believe that they know what’s best for them, and that only the Illuminate can guide them towards true happiness. The Bright Empire was rife with both types of Illuminate. When they expanded west, the people of Seshnela were resistant to the idea of conversion. When a mysterious plague broke out in Tanisor and spread into Seshnela and Arolanit, the Riddlers came forth with a cure, and the Seshnelans opened their hearts to Nysalor from then on. But it was later discovered that the Riddlers unleashed the plague in the first place; the entire event had been engineered to allow them to spread the teachings of Nysalor. For this reason, many cultures in the Third Age decry Illumination as being Chaotic.Illumination is a vital part of the Lunar Way. Sevening, the awakening of the seventh soul, is a prerequisite to understanding the greatest Lunar magic. However, Illumination is strictly monitored by the empire. Potential Illuminates are tested by the Imperial Illumination Examiners, who inflict the Sevening Rites upon them. These magical tests assault the candidate’s mind and body with demons and maddening truths wrenched from the dark heart of the cosmos. A candidate who survives intact is allowed to Illuminate.
>>1548072>For an Illuminate, they are above all morality, theology and even the world itselfwow, they are literally me...
>>1548060>>1548069>>1548072>continued to endThe religious paths that the God Learners called mysticism can also lead to a state similar to Illumination. Practised predominantly by dragonewts and the Kralorelans, mystic beliefs teach that reality is an illusion that must be overcome to achieve enlightenment. Mystics typically gain great powers from progressing along the paths of enlightenment, but most lose the desire to use them, as any application of power further enmeshes them in the material world. But just like other Illuminates, mystics can become Occluded. Sheng Seleris and his Zolathi followers are an example of Occluded mystics, and the world still bears the scars from the time of his rule.
>>1548077And this doesn’t even get into stuff like Rashoran, the god from the Godstime that is associated with Illumination and Nysalor/Gbaji, he’s original source of Illumination and shows up in Lights Going Out.>At first Rashoran went about calming the frightened gods, teaching them to be unafraid. It is said that of all the cosmos only he did not fear what he did not know. He taught this knowledge to some of the other gods; most of them succumbed to the Darkness without a struggle after learning from Rashoran, though a few seem to have been fortified, such as Humakt and Uleria. Three others found that they were not afraid, and that they could use the fears of others to their own ends. One of the first things they did was to destroy Rashoran to keep his secret to themselves.>These murderers were the Unholy Trio. Hatred, selfishness, greed, and jealousy motivated them. These short-sighted emotions are now considered to be symptoms of chaos in the world, and they were originated by the three, who concentrated their forces and wills to create something new.>The first of the trio was Ragnaglar, whom some call kinsman to Storm Bull, driven to hatred by jealousy and dishonorable acts. The second was Thed, said to have been wife to Ragnaglar at one time. The third was Malia, another goddess, who had great properties to aid birth and growth. These three joined together and perverted their natures to make their weapon of hatred and vengeance.>The Unholy Trio made the end of the world. They wove a great magical ritual of potency far greater than anything before accomplished, for they had discovered the wonder and power of primal chaos, and used it magically to strengthen themselves for what was to come. They then engaged in their rituals of chaos-birth. When it was done, the world was changed, and new forces roamed the world.
>try to play unconventionally to discover hidden shit like >>1546836>get fucked up the ass by the gameAm I supposed to just play on Easy?
>>1548157Depends on what do you mean by 'playing unconventionally'.For example, it is actually possible to play a somewhat chaotic clan (instead of the more conventional staunch fighters of chaos), provided you don't just drink all of the chaos kool-aid
>raid>get like 20 cattle>lose 60 cattle in a cattle raidwhat is the point
>>1548066This but unironically. Once you listen to a fucking riddle spinner,it is over. You think you have dismissed it as schizo babble but it already took root in your soul, becoming a spiritual time bomb. 5 years later you'll see a cow shitting and pissing at the same time and suddenly "it will all make sense" and you have just become the next sheng seleris
>>1548480Quit leaving your own place undefended when you go raid. And raids also get you goods and horses, along with potentially giving some magic and treasures. Plus if you don’t raid then people will lose respect for you.
>>1548612Sheng Seleris did nothing wrong.
>>1548079>>1548612>>1548670>Sheng SelerisWho?
>>1549482Gloranthas equivalent to Attila the Hun/Genghis Khan. As a young warlord he invaded Kralorela (China), got his ass kicked and spent 100 years as a pow. He was illuminated during his time in prison and later would use that to achieve new heights of magical power. He invaded and conquered the Lunar Empire and Kralorela, killing the emperor of the former and forcing the latters emperor into hiding. He invaded the Red Moon where he was defeated by the Red Emperor fighting alongside the moon goddess while being weakened by a curse of the kralorelan emperor, but not before scarring the moons surface (in KODP there's an event where the moon suddenly gets scars, that's this), and then he's dragged to hell for eternal torture.
>send my heroic combat leader out to explore the clan lands with 10 weaponthanes and 10 footmen>he never comes backbut why though
>>1549549>eternal torture
>>1549549>>1549726>torture>Oh noooo lunar demons, don’t throw me in the Briar patch, anything but that
Getting my ass kicked over and over, is there a general guide anywhere on LGO? I'm following>>1534246 but it mostly solves food problems, not really much else. I keep losing on the 2nd generation (By the time Venef is around 20)
>>1549741How are you losing, exactly? Food is the biggest way to lose, so that's why all the advice centers on food. Are you disbanding from too few cattle or something? Too few people? Embracing cannibalism?
>>1549773My losses are from herd loss. My goods income is usually good enough to use it for sacrifices, so even if I avoid sacrificing herds, it always seems to slowly dwindle down year after year. I even have shrines to increase herd growth. My first run I had to keep sacrificing herds to keep everyone from starving though, so I guess that's from starvation.
>>1549741Same as always.>food shrines up>trade routes up>war shrines up>buy all treasure in the land>trade goods/foods for cattleThen just do whatever you want inbetween stat boosting rituals.
>>1549789how do you consistently win rituals?
>>1549790You don't. Just keep throwing 18 year olds at them until one gets lucky and snowballs into a demigod.
>>1549793well shit, I thought the whole point was to throw people with really high stats at them to succeed
>>1549797No, you need those to actually do work.
>>1549787Try this.Early game, focus on getting as many trade routes up as possible. As you send trade missions to the other factions, you get a higher cap (+1 each for a trade mission to all riders, wheels, and ram). Use ventures like trade, craft, and trap for furs (in dark season) to generate more goods.Soon, you will end up with a significant amount of surplus goods. Use your best trader to exchange these for herds until you have about 1000.Try not to raid often unless you have a heroic warleader. There will be counterraids, and you will lose cows. The herd blessing is good, but once your cows naturally reproduce faster than you sacrifice them for shrine upkeep, it is not really needed. I usually don't set it up if I'm honest. My Uralda shrine gives me the milk blessing, and I never even make a shrine to whatever the sheep god is.And yeah, the death spiral of not enough food is either going to give you game over from too few cows or too few people, depending on your choices. Once it starts, it's hard to escape.
>>1549741Put the unique characters on your ring because their stats get fucking massive without you doing anything.
>>1549790One thing that improves your odds of success is sacred time magic invested into non-ritual activities. For example having War magic will buff you during the ritual if you attempt some kind of war related action like fighting something. And all other passive blessings also apply, so tracking/skirmishing buffs will help you track and skirmish shit in quests.
>>1549802I'll try the herd strategy, thanks. Other than setting up trade routes and keeping herds up, is there a certain way i should do my ring structuring?
>>1549912No problem. As for your ring, there are two competing goals: represent as many gods as possible so you have more flexibility for allocating magic (e.g. a martial god like Humankt raises war magic cap, Uralda food, etc.), and putting the most skilled dudes on your ring.I don't think too hard about it, but I do make sure my best combat person is on the ring at all times and never goes exploring. In LGO that usually means one of the Humankti girls. If you have an Issaries worshiper on the ring, that's another trade route, too. An Eurmal worshiper on the ring is also something to think about, since tricksters let you solve things in unique ways. Though they can be a headache sometimes.
Doing some testing with a leader that has unrealistically high stats. Some discoveries so far:>clan health is not affected by stats whatsoever>sacrifices always succeed with 1 good>raids autosucceed and enemy wounds are at a 1:100 ratio>no particular effect on food production as far as I can tell>can heroquest every turn>searching for trade goods in your tula still fucking fails sometimes>trading becomes super efficient
I have the original installed. Is it still the best one?Are there any mods for it?
>>1550270>Is it still the best one?Either it or Lights Going Out.>Are there any mods for it?No.
>>1523915i tried six ages 1 a couple years ago because a friend recommended it to me but got bored a couple of hours in because it seemed kind of repetitivedid i just get filtered?
>>1550300thanks
>>1550268>searching for trade goods in your tula still fucking fails sometimesIt's god damn nonsense hard.
>>1550300I tried modding six ages, its basically impossible. They didnt code it for moddability, it's mostly hardcoded. Most you can do is replace portraits
Does who you make leader of the ring change anything?
>>1550559Yes.
>>1550595what does it change?
>>1550621
>As with trading missions and emissaries, ring members, thanks to their support from the clan magic, will have more success than non-ring members of equal ability.Well that's news to me. Wonder if it applies in the newer games.
>>1550781Huh. I’ve been playing KoDP for over a decade and somehow never realized that either. That is great. It makes sense in setting and is a good risk/reward gameplay mechanic.
Is it just me or are treasures useless?
>>1552473Must just be you, treasures are awesome. They're even handier in Lights Going Out, because you get a pop up on scenes where a treasure is helping to let you know.
How the FUCK do you not death spiral through mass sickness after Chalana Arroy dies?
>>1552564Max out health magic at sacred time every year, spam healing spirit (I hope you have one), and try not to get injured in raids.
>>155248990% of treasures in LGO are for giving you +1 magic when you win a raid with a specific action. Or the even worse ones that give you an extra benefit for some ventures. That's really bad.
>>1552600Both of those are useful, just get the right ones and spam them.
>>1552651Raids are a terrible idea and most ventures are a waste of time.
>>1546777>Like in KODP there were councilors that would endlessly quote empty proverbs
>>1552654>Raids are a terrible idea Untrue, but they work on defensive raids too.>most ventures are a waste of time.>mostSo not all. So, as I said, just get the right ones and spam them.
>>1552657>UntrueI can't wait to spend a turn, get a shitton of injuries, reduce relations, push a clan towards chaos, get my cattle stolen while I'm out, and maybe come back home with nothing, all in exchange for a chance at like 10 goods and cows!
>>1552660Sounds like (almost literally) a skill issue to me.
>>1552669Sounds like a playing on easy issue to me.
>>1552988Nope.Sure on the hardest difficulty raiding is a bad idea but it isn’t on the other ones.If you ally with people around you, as well as keeping your fear up and not sending your entire force then you won’t get constant cattle raids. And what is a good way to keep up respect? Raiding. You get magic from raiding with artifacts so it pays for itself on yearly blessings. You get artifacts, magic, 20-30 cows, 20-30 goods, 12-15 horses (which are considered to be worth 4 cows each, making them amazing for trading).Anon, I think you just suck and don’t know what you are doing.
>>1553001>Sure on the hardest difficulty raiding is a bad idea but it isn’t on the other ones.So it's exactly as I said.
>>1553003So you agree that raiding isn’t a bad idea, sounds great anon. I’m glad we have had this discussion and you have admitted you were wrong before.
>>1553005I agreed that you play on easy and hence think raiding is good, illiterate retard.
>>1553006>illiterate retardREAD motherfucker, there are 4 different difficulties you retard. Raiding is only unlikely to be worth it on the very hardest one, where the game isn’t even an rngfest due to how hard it stacks everything against you so you know that anything risky isn’t worth it. Even on the 2nd hardest raiding has practical benefits and can be worth it if you do it carefully. And you are STILL wrong about the treasures being worthless because even on the hardest because you can still trade away the treasures you don’t want (or use them in events) and the raiding ones work on defensive raids too, which you’ll be facing all the time on the hardest difficulty. I understand that you are projecting because you play on easiest and can’t figure out the battle mechanics but you don’t need to make excuses like this.
>>1553016>Raiding is only unlikely to be worth it on the very hardest oneSo it's exactly as I said.>treasures are good because you can sell themActual retard.
>>1553021Are you hallucinating?
>>1553016Treasures are a good way to store wealth on very hard too, since the game isn’t as likely to take them compared to goods or cows.
If you can’t successfully raid twice every fire season on difficulty 4 then you are bad at video games.
>he didn't finish LGO on very hard as a chaos-free war clan with no treasures, no shrines and no sprits You didn't play the game
>he didn’t get Bergen’s crown, the third and final piece of kingly regaliaYou did not beat Lights Going Out.
>>1553066fuck off teghern
>>1553042>Didn't exclude having Allies>Didn't exclude doing story Rituals>Didn't exclude having Trade Routes>Didn't exclude having Fortifications>Nice joke fucking casual, next time try not sucking your mom's dick and try actually beating Lights Going Out.
ok I think I solved LGOjust forage and sell that shit until you reach critical cow mass
>>1553189>no mention of having an eurmal worshipper as chiefUhmm... bro? Did you even install the game?
>>1553669>having a chief>not leaving all spaces on the ring blank, including the chief spotAnon, it literally goes without saying. I bet you spend magic each year too.
>>1553267I figure hunting is better than foraging since the game gives you a super hunter and the dostal shrine hunting blessing helps with combat as well as with food.
>>1553829foraging as in the map activity, not the shitty ventures
