Whats the point in recommending mods when the update is going break all of them?
>>1369971Paradox is giving early access to people who make the bigger mods. I think it is about 5K subs on steam minimum. Mods like Planetary Diversity will be up to date when the update releases. Paradox does that at least as long as Stellaris is concerned.
I was gonna get this, even thou it seemed kinda sus, with maybe marginal SP playability. But then some Troon made one of their dairy videos and I had to get off this clown ride.

Toxic god origin feels kinda shitYou kneecap your eco for 100 year and then you just get a shitty unique habitat building every 10 years for your troubleWorst part is that the only thing you'd need to change to make it good is to add the extra knight job every 10 pops like on the main habitat
How the FUCK do I get rid of allied megacorp branch offices from my subjects? The fucking gookclick AI opens them literally the same fucking second I finish uplifting primitives.

Is anyone actually excited for this DLC? It seems full of irrelevant shit.

>>1370896>until whenever johan dies of heart failureThat would change nothing for Stellaris
>>1370447Ensign. I prefer to not have to try too hard and the AI isn't half retarded anymore. Atleast, they are capable of inflating their military power by hiring mercs. Advanced ai starts can also get a massive lead if you get a shitty start. That being said if im playing a really powerful empire scaling difficulty of various degrees can be fun to keep later stages competetive without being wiped out in the first 50 years because the AI gets free bonuses.
>>1370447I agree with >>1371097 here, as with 1000+ hours in Stellaris, I've noticed that paradox has actually been improving the A.I significantly (unlike their other titles). I have yet to actually have a successful play through.

>>1372152crazy how the Stellaris life support team and the EUIV life support team (mostly that one modder they hired who made Flavor Universalis [he's gone so far as to say: I made this in dev diaries lol]) make far better content than two or three dozen glomo swedes taking their government mandated 4 months of yearly holidays while being on parental leave for the rest of the year

>>1372258what happens if you refuse to pay?
>>1372243Fear of the Dark is the only origin interesting to me outside of achievement runsI'm playing Relic World origin + Eager Explorers, you start as a pseudo-primitive but you have jump drives, you can easily jump over FEs and other obstacles but there is a risk of jumping into hostile space and dying (died on my 3rd jump into hostile territory)It slows down the exploration phase and the QoL isn't perfect, you have to think about your jumps so you don't waste time, you get a 25% reduction to jump cooldown with the subspace jump drivesI have an archeotech science building which makes up for being 4 techs behind at game start and not having a research building (locked behind one of the techs). You also start with 2 science ships with scientists instead of 1
>>1372270Also the base UI is ass so I'm going to wait till UI overhaul is updated before continuingFeels like a crunchy DLC, I haven't done anything with cloaking yet and don't fully understand the new primitive mechanics - you can vary whether you want more situation progress or more research, I got the option to research a tech from the situation but haven't drawn it yet as my research is slow as fuck even with the archaeotech institute and just unlocked research labs around 2208

The separatist planet plays similarly to a Pre-FTL empire and is even referred to as such by the game, but you can't build observation posts on it, and It would have special events throughout the Origin (haven't tested it yet).Would be interesting to see how this is expanded upon if they ever improve internal politics features in a future update.
>>1372402Correction. Fear of the Dark isn't a Primitive Origin since the player starts as usual aside from special Origin situations, the other two origins you need to research certain basic technologies that would normally be available by default.

Haven't played Stellaris for a couple years now. I remember having to use an AI mod if I wanted anything resembling a challenge. How much has Paradox improved the base game AI?
>>1372564They don't. Normally Insults are only used if you want to decrease your reputation with a particular empire.
>>1372570They're pretty good on GA now, instead of dropping off in the 2250 like before it stays competitive until about 2350-2400.They'll keep up with you in tech until you can get aroud 4k research and they'll have fleets in the 1-2 million firepower by the late game.Really at the moment the only problem with the ai is that the galaxy ends up in 2-3 federations/overlords empires running everything by the mid game so everytime you try to go to war against someone you'll be fighting 4-5 empires and you won't even be able to reach most of them which makes gaining even a status quo victory almost impossible.

If you're gonna make it unavoidable at least increase the chance that the species will merely be thrown back one or two Ages and kill a bunch of pops without turning it into a Tomb World.>>1372629>Pick to make use of the disabled MSI warship as your own flagship instead of repurposing as a research habitat.>Pretty good ship overall.>Later on get an event that allows you to further upgrade the ship by enabling certain disabled systems on it.>Do so, paying research points to work it out.>Event is completed successfully.>Game deletes your previous MSI ship and replaces it with a more powerful identical copy of itself.>Game killes the admiral manning the flagship when doing this.BRAVO PARADOX. >>1373272Distant Stars, Utopia, there's another one...Maybe Ancient Relics...Watch Montu's video on whether you should buy First Contact, he mentions the 3 DLC that are actually necessary
>>1370447Ensign, because the AI doesn't change its strategies between difficulty levels, the only thing that changes are the bonus handicaps, and I'd rather keep it at zero handicaps for me and zero handicaps for the AI.
>>1373272Utopia, Distant Stars are must haves.Leviathans, Ancient Relics, Megacorp and Federations are after that in value i'd say.Nemesis, Apocalypse and Overlord are all a little too dependent upon leaning into their particular playstyle. Choose wisely if you must get them.Synthetic dawn is cool if you want to play as a robot empire from the get go. But it's obviously not worth it if you don't want to do that. All the species packs are completely optional. They add some race potraits, a few unique traits/civics and ship sets. They are the least important and can be totally skipped if you think the value proposition isn't worth it.
>>1373272To answer simply: none.Problem with their DLC is that they looks like they provide much content, but in reality they do not.Every single one is released with big ass rebalance patch that changes the game, sometimes even the base mechanics, like star bases were added in APOC, and they were branded as conquer/territory/war rebalance but were not in fact included in DLC.Let me use the wiki as a source.https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/ApocalypseRead this and tell me that you somehow can for a fact say that paid features are more impactful than free reworks. That being said, I'll probably make a long post listing all DLC in a moment.

>>1373334You should write that list. Let's hear the opposite side of the DLC recommendations.
>>1373369>>1373272For starters, you probably have heard about utopia being the single best one. Reason behind this is, that it adds hiveminds (easy mode for internal and external politics) and mega structures outside of those two that are in vanilla (habitat virgin and gateway chad). This DLC adds flavour to most basic and substantial aspects of the game, the purge and slavery, and ascension perks. To put it simply, this DLC is packed with most content of all of them. I guess this is why it's most recommended. My favourite is the Apocalypse, reasons are beyond reason, since as I myself stated above it's not as impactful as the free features. However I really do dig titans, colossus and ion cannons. But to pay like 20 goybucks for this bullshit? Nah.Speaking of alternative empire types there are three: regular empires (vanilla), reddit (utopia) and machines (synthetic dawn). So, the first thing you've got to know is that synthetic dawn was molded after a mod. It being stolen content does not necessarily makes it bad, quite the contrary, it's a solid DLC, that tries give you mechanical equivalent of biological empires experience. This time economy is simplified. So these two (synthetic dawn and Utopia) are needed to let you experience all flavours of empires. Others DLC consist of:>better external politicsIt's called the federations. And at this moment It adds more federation types to vanilla, like 6 total I think. It was a good rework, but it follows the grand scheme of PDX that any big patch should be a gateway drug, a hook of some sorts. I mean, you can form the federation in vanilla but only most basic and boring one that negates penalty for being in said federation, and for final tier of trust makes you deal more damage to final crisis. In this case paying for a full feature gives you access to martial alliance, science initiative, Mercantile league, and holy covenant. Theres probably one or two more types that I cannot remember now.
>>1373393>>1373369>>1373272Now for the list.>REDBase game, vanilla if you'd like.>GREENThese are called expansions. They are *supposed to* deepen and widen a chosen part of the game.Utopia, Federations and Apocalypse were described before, no need to redo it I think.>Megacorp Deepens the trade of the game, and gives new goverment type (corporate) They have different civics, and can build holdings on planets of any empire they have commercial pact with. They exceed at mercantile, have some INSANE bonuses for trade, and can burn entire planets to the ground to acquire more profit. This is not a joke, cooperating with megacorp always pays off more than cooperating with any other empire, just remember that house always wins.>NemesisWas supposed to deepen the Grand Politics of the game. Most common opinion is that it is playable once. Let me explain. Nemesis adds new levels of political powers: Galaxy can work under a council of most powerful empires effectively restricting minor plebs from voting, vote a custodian to seize all the power for a time, or be rebranded as a empire with a single ruler. This part of the game is neat. Somehow, alternative path consist of "Becoming the crisis", but it really is a single use path, since it gives you literally the strongest military bonuses in entire game. Like seriously, it's outright banned in almost any MP match, that's how strong it is. >OverlordIt's said that it deepens the subject-overlord mechanics. Some people tell it's a outright downgrade, since orbital rings are a meme, hyper-relays choke the pathfinding. origins are bullshit, and new vassal types destroy the balance, and AI cannot use them properly. Remade vassal contracts are brilliant, but again, it is in a free patch. Do not pay for overlord.
>BLUEThese are story packs, as the name suggests, they are supposed to make the most of the narrative, but not necessairly add big mechanics to the game.>LeviathansBig ass space entities to slay for hefty relics. They all have a nice written stories. Good thing is that relics were reworked some time ago, and deleting one of these badasses actually rewards you with something.>Synthetic dawn(see >>1373393)>Distant StarsAdds more anomalies, new leviathans, preset worlds. Shame it's not already free or merged with vanilla. Basic anomalies are repetitive even on 200 galaxy. And also it adds L-Gates. It's a one shot, long event chain that is leading to several randomized outcomes. All of which are boring. Luckily we can turn them off now on galaxy creation.>Ancient RelicsAnother one that should be in base game already. It adds neat stories exploreable by acheological sites, and seemingly randomized precursor stories for you to uncover. It's story oriented, only recently it's been buffed by...>First ContactReviewed in this thread.>GREENRacepacks, or species packs to not be a racist. Several, 6 at this moment DLC's oriented on bringing more flavour to your species. Note, that all of these were at some point purely cosmetic DLCs. Now all of them have some new traits and new civics, new origin.>PlantoidsPlants but in space. >HumanoidsBipepdal but in space.>LithoidsLiving rocks. In space. >NecroidsXenomorphs, vampires? It's not stated. These empires need to exterminate others to grow their own pops. This one adds zombies, and was extremely wonky, being rebalanced 3 times now in a year.>AquaticsAvatar 2 but in space>ToxoidsSchloppity Schlop but in space.
>>1373447">GREEN" should be labeled as ">VIOLET" sorry.Race packs are Violet, not Green
>>1373437>>1373447Damn, I really forgot how much stuff is DLC locked. To any new players, I can highly recommend Leviathans, Distant Stars, and Ancient Relics. Most of the stuff in them are the best made things in Stellaris
>>1373393>For starters, you probably have heard about utopia being the single best one. Reason behind this is, that it adds hiveminds (easy mode for internal and external politics)Really? I could swear that the hiveminds have been in the game on release, including one preset empire (Ixrec Collective), but maybe those bugs weren't a hivemind back then and had been reworked with Utopia.
Anyone here who bought all the DLCs but has no idea what they all add to the game?
I like calling that tech the N-word in Space
>>1373456good job retard. half of those actively make the game worse
>>1373447It doesn't absolve Paradox but I'm glad that they recognize their games become a steaming pile of shallow mechanics and have a custodian team that actually does something3.7.2 added a significant amount of content to Ancient Relics, it's good to see that not everything is locked behind the latest DLC and some older stuff gets an overhaul to fit in better with the rest of the game. In this case it wasn't just basic bitch maintenance work, but significant reworks with lots of new content that wasn't really locked into First Contact at allThis patch feels like an expansion and not a story pack, until you realize that a good chunk of content was all the Custodian team's doingI feel like the envoys are very sparse early game and I've got a shitload late game after researching all the primitive tech, I played psionic and usually I don't really fuck with shield tech too much and only realized mid-game that all the cloaking tech was locked behind the vanilla shield techI was also disappointed and confused about the interaction between psyshields, psycloaks, and archaeotech utility slot stuffThe tooltip says that you basically lose the benefit of cloaked psyshields if you use anything other than psyshields, which means you have to pass up the armor hardening archaeoshield and the armor+shield aracheoarmor, which sucks if you want to lean into shields as you would as a psionic and pick up all the shield hardeningI loaded up on the archaeotech weapons, they seem effective enough when you pick the archaeotech ascension perk + get the rubricator. I'd have to test and see how a missile cruiser fleet with the nanomissiles does against xenophobic isolationist FE, always kicks my ass with that build
>>1373471Dark matter cloak tech gives +1 to cloaking and 50% shields, psyshields give you all your shields and +2 cloaking but only if the only shields you have are psyshieldsI never once used cloaking on my military fleet but it came in handy on my science vessels

>>1373553honestly i agree
>>1373503Calm damn nigger i was just reminiscing about that old system. I might be slightly nostalgic but i sure as shit don't think it was better. Job system has vastly improved the overall experience in managing planets. The only good thing about the old system is that it was theoretically less laggy because the maximum amount of pops on any given planet in vanilla was 25.
>>1373563The easiest way to fix Stellaris' performance problems is to set guaranteed habitable worlds to 0 and habitable world spawns to 0.25. It's such a huge improvement to both performance and gameplay I'm shocked more people don't do it.
>>1373563I kinda miss the old system because it could have potentially resulted in each tile having a different habitability making only a certain part of a planet habitable for any species. I personally hate monobiome planets.
>>1369831I just got whupped fighting an empire I'd been gunning for. I let my economy and research slip, we ended up trading colonies but i lost my fleet to the no retreat doctrine. I blew my early lead and this war set me back big time. Now i have to micro for 10 years and rebuild.

>>1373553I really have to agree. The tile system was a braindead mini-game that was only fun if you had a boatload of mods that added more options.
Anyone having this irritating popup? I'm playing with a fair amount of mods at the moment but never had the issue before the update
>>1373811Looks like bad localization, a modder probably did it
>>1373553Hyperlanes are boring. Give everyone short-range jump drives and jump drive disruptors that both improve with technology, so the game becomes an evolutionary race between defenders fortifying their borders and attackers trying to find a way around it.

I want to play some knights of the toxic god. Either doing the "play demon invasion" event if it happens to pop up or just... keeping going if not. Last time i tried to play these guys i thought id play a megacorp for fun and make mercenary enclaves and people would hire my knights but it felt like my economy was in the toilet so despite there being a "cool" branch office building I'm not fucking trying that shit again. Whats fun with these guys? Going psionic? Synthetic for robot knights? Any choices i should be sure to make?
I'm having fun with my Fear of the Dark playthrough, but I feel like not enough happens frequently enough. Haven's been quiet for almost 20 years now
>cant rename or customize primitive sister civilization in Fear of the Dark from "Human Commune" to something more fitting in order to accommodate my different headcanons of humanities different pre-FTL scenario's in the Sol systempfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff>>1373569>set guaranteed habitable worlds to 0 and habitable world spawns to 0.25I dont understand how people play without this, it should be the standard setting desu. The zero guaranteed habitables especially keeps each playthrough fresh and interesting strategically, instead of devolving into some standard variation of "30 year tech/alloy multiplayer rush" build order. Exploration actually matters, and each single planet you manage to claim is a precious resource worth fighting tooth and nail over.
>>1374147>>1373569Reason it's not default is because advanced empires spawns WILL always have their guaranteed habitables. A bad spawn can set you back ALOT.I agree that it is fun to turn them off though. Working with what you have and all that rather than doing the same thing every time.
>>1373811Yeah, people are reporting it on the Expanded Events mod page, though probably any mod that added events for primitives is going to be messed up. More Events apparently also does, so it could be that.
>>1374218>mod issueSo how many of the bug reports are from retarded mod users? There are reviews sayng that everthing is broken and other can use the new features just fine.
Anyone else playing with mods? I have a whole bunch of pop jobs now that have a minor artifact upkeep and i can't track down where it's coming from.
All I want is an internal politics expansion, is that too much to ask for?
>>1374147Stellaris should have way less habitable planets by default. Make them bigger to compensate and increase star numberImagine, a 20k galaxy with ten empires, each has five to ten planets eachFirst of all, tactics would matter a lot more. I was able to defeat Kaiser by clever fleet micro, and I want more of that shitSecond of all, performance would improve while "power level" wouldn't change. Fewer pops would be compensated by them being concentrated on a few planets, which means you can stack more buffs, and more systems for science and mining outpostsAlso those few planets become really important, meaning more mad dashes and scrambles for them. And that lets them expand army systemPlus I wanted a more complex economy for a while. This at least allows you to make choice, planet based or space based. Like, if you pick right civics, traditions and ascension perks you can get most of your resources from mining and research stationsAlso does anyone wanna hear my economic rant/idea?
>>1374239Sounds terrible.
>>1374251Elaborate
>>1369831man the subterranean civilization event really needs to be reworked. even if you are the most fanatic xenophile egalitarian pacifist peace loving empire it is objectively the stronger choice to just genocide them all immediatly. trying to negotiate will ultimately lead to an invasion anyway and you get free districts and some scattered rewards for genocide. give me a damn reason to spare them. it doesn't make sense
>>1374256Reducing the scale of the game is a terrible idea. The best way to improve performance would be to reduce the ammount of pops since they are abstract to begin with.Having less planets is just going to make wide and tall playthroughs feel the same.
>>1374265The scale only increases through. That way you can have an empire of several thousand star systems instead of few hundred at best
>>1374267Shut up Wiz.You got removed from the team for a reason.>The scale only increases throughJust like 2.0 would reduce micro and improve performance huh?Or how the FTL rework would reduce doomstacks.
>>1374276FTL didn't reduce doomstacks, but more systems will, since if you concentrate all your force in one place you will leave your worlds vulnerableFewer planets will reduce microIdeally I'd overhaul pop system where instead of being calculated individually they'd be assigned to a strata and then average will be taken but the above solution requires them to change literally two lines of code
>>1369831Do you only get the Archeotech building related to the precursor you found or can you get all of them somehow?
>>1373856>new DLC promises to enhance pre-FTL interaction>find a pre-FTL species as usual>new interface but nothing amazing yet>observe for some random tech unlocks>spend thousands of resources on pre-FTL events>get absolutely nothing in return for investment>many of the events are copy-paste and not tailored>pre-FTL nukes itself because PDX didn't do any QAobjectively the DLC makes the game worse in exactly what it set out to do. there's no incentive to spend unity and resources on pre-FTLs because you get nothing useful in return. ironically, the best thing you can do is simply invade and conquer them, completely skipping all of the new content.
>>1374225Major updates always break mods in Paradox gamed. Either uninstall the offending mod or take a break from Stellaris until all your favorite mods get updated.
>>1374306Conquering pre ftls will always be the best option since it gives a lot of pops in the early game.Well at least they fixed pre sapients so they are no longer anomaly spawned.
>>1374029It really depends. For starters, you basically NEED to be some form of trade-based empire to sidestep most of the economic penalties from the origin. Synthetic ascension actually reduces the number of interactions you can get, Genetic is a good all-rounder that can get quite potent with some micro-management, but Psionic gets extra interactions - such as the daemonic incursion - and personally I find psionic space-crusaders pretty cool plus it works better with the true ending of the quest . For quest outcome choices, generally stuff that increases the knight powers is the way to go - especially science, as if you are going Psionic you can easily pump out all the unity you need. The real decision is if you want to go all-in on knights or 'fix' the homeworld (I would very much go for the former, as not only is it economically better but I like to train up my ultra-crusaders). The most important decision is whether you slay the toxic entity or 'tame' it as that massively impacts what happens to your knights.Personally, I like having my martial trade-empire of psionic space-crusaders vassalising the galaxy in order to fund their search for their god. It's fun and easy to theme in fun ways, if you are RP inclined.
>>1374313but the whole point of this DLC was to give non-conquerors a different strategy... hence first contact. yet all of the peaceful interactions drain an inordinate amount of resources for no appreciable gain. (and then they'll nuke themselves anyway no matter their ethics)the old interactions without the DLC were better balanced and easier to use. what were they thinking releasing it in this state? and Paradox even has the gall to charge $15 for this garbage. fucking kek
>>1374320And you believed that?Pops and tech will always be the most important resouces.Unless they have observation stations generate more tech than 10+ pops can provide it‘s never going to be worth it.
What's the risk of a ban for using Creamapi for DLC? Is it easy to use for barely computer literate peabrains?
>>1374325>risk0%>Is it easySomewhat. I managed to get it working, but it took some trial and error. Also best guides are in Russian, although you should be able to monkey see-monkey do
>>1374314Ok ill go psionic then. The empire wide bonuses you get alongside the capital look cool but i usually take extra knight stuff too. I guess i might go for super capital plus the bonuses if i were hydrocentric so i could get it to max size.
>>1374306>Find my home planet as slaves>Scientist instantly goes rogue>Declares himself god, sets their awareness to max and gives stone age space tech and they despise me before i can finish one decrease awareness
What dlc's are essential and/or high quality? Is it like eu4 in where I need them all to have a complete experience? I only have pic related. Also please post more so I can read them while I steal a paycheck
>>1374306>Playing shared burdens>Egalitarian revolutionaries on ftl world>Support them>Planet becomes fanatic authoritarian>Nothing in the text suggests its one of those promises freedom but actually dictator type thingsId get it if the revolutionaries were untrustworthy and installed a dictator or something but my fanatic egal empire is cheering on installing an egal government despite it being fanatic auth.
>>1374239So now xenophobes get a huge advantage as only they can expand fast enough to get the most planets, also mining stations become super important and "planet wide" bonuses are now way stronger, plus rather than having several specialised worlds of every type you get forced to generalise.
So how is the DLC? Is AI still blobbing by chainsubjugating everyone peacefully?
>>1374367The only ai i see with multiple subjects get them ond of 3 ways. Hegemon start, war, and rebels/half conquered tiny shits begging the biggest similarish ethics neighbour to save their ass. Empires with like 3 planets+ seem pretty resistant to joining up with other ai as a vassal. They seem to look for federations instead.
>>1374314I thought demon incursion was just dimensional portal didnt need psionic too?
>>1374363>XenophobesThen rebalance. >Mining stationsGood. In fact let us buff them if we so desire, so we can go for space-based rather then planet based approach>Planet bonusesYes>GeneralisedNot necessarily. It actually bevomes an important choice. 4-7 planets are enough for major resources, which gives you bigger economy but leaves you vulnerable to someone rushing your important world. More meaningful choices are good. Instead of same plan every time you are adapting to circumstances.
>>13743834-7 planets is what you already get until you start conquering people. Its not adapting to circumstances, its playing different strategies and different scifi tropes and you want to kill it. I agree with the other anon, the problem is pops not planets.Especially the retarded empire size from districts/pops that seems to exist purely to balance ring world origin
>>1374390I think you both complain too much. the game is fine the way it is.
Dammit, I'm getting blown out. I'm losing the tech race, the arms race, the diplo race, and every other race.
>>1374440my vassals are pissed at me because i lost my fleet and they think i can't protect them now. i'm trying to build cruisers with like 70 alloys a month.
How would anons create a RP Roman Star Empire?
>>1374468Roman name lists, and SPQR symbols, and portraits with togas and crested helmets are all superficial. If you want to RP Rome in Stellaris you need to recreate the development from petty kingdom to republic, to empire, then to a fragmented empire, and then the fall. You will need lots of small barbarian tribes/empires for them to fight against each other and for you to conquer probably with 'Barbaric Despoilers' and similar Civics. You will need a few powerful advanced empires to represent Carthage, the Sassanids/Persians, as well as multiple multiple Marauders to represent the Huns and other Eastern threats. I don't think Fallen Empires would fit the campaign. All Crisis.Xenophobe, Militarist, and Egalitarian for Citizen Republic at the start while being able to have alien slaves, but develop it later into Authoritarian Xenophile with Byzantine Bureocracy in the late game to simulate the development of Rome while still being able to have slaves of the aliens you've already integrated. Warrior Culture for your second Civic, for gladiators. Not sure what the third Civic Trait could be, Distinguished Admiralty or Masterful Crafters maybe. For Traditions Trees you want Discovery, Domination, Expansion, Prosperity, Supremacy, Adaptability, and Politics. Unsure of the order in which they would need to be taken.Probably as hard a difficulty as you'd find comfortable playing, set to Late Game growth.Haven't thought about Ascension Perks.
>>1372680https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SbT3q1a6dQ
>>1372598You never played with starnet. It doesn‘t make the ai more aggressive it focuses a lot more on tech , has far better planet templates and wastes less resources.Starnet also uses better ship designs.
>>1369831God damn, this one is a pain in the ass. It seems trivial at first but not having hyperdrives means you can't automate anything. You can't even plot a course. You have to manually initiate a jump, then wait half a year until the jump drives cool down, then manually initiate the next jump, etc. Not to mention that systems connected with longer than usual hyperlanes sometimes literally can't be reached because the jump range is so small.
>>1374390You'll start with a few generalised planets, once you expand you can start specializing, if you so desire. That makes more sense, instead of everyone on earth deciding farming is gay and suddenly wanting to become researchersIn fact it gives you morr strategiesDo you wanna have your resource production be space or planet based? Do you want specialised planets for bigger output or do you want more generalized ones for more flexibility? Different sci fi tropes as well. You'd think that Paradox would've figured out how to make the AI properly outfit its ships and starbases by now after years of development...And yet they can't even bother or maybe figure out how to make a starbase not put shields and railguns all over itself when it's built inside of a nebula. Not even that but the AI won't even use the Defense Platform feature, it's just something the player can do with them but outside of some niche cases they're pretty useless and easily destroyable every time a Starbase is taken, which is every time a fleet marginally stronger than it gets close to it.Literal brain-dead stuff.
>>1375146Do you have any of the DLC's? Some of them (like Knights of the Toxic God) are very fun.
>>1375146The new Payback one is interesting, you don't even start with corvettes unlocked.

What is your favorite origin? I love Remnants, its my go to
What the fuck is that spy shitI came back to the game again, full definition of insanity, hoping it now has more mechanics than "number go up, spam shit stack research". Am I missing something? Because at a quick glance, espionage is utter garbage. It eats up an envoy, gobbles up influence, takes fucking eons and a trillion clicks and in return for all of this I can... destroy a defense platform? I mean, what? Who the fuck designed that shit? People actually pay for this?
>>1375244just more worthless bloat that could have been good if well implemented
so what's the current early game ship meta?Just missile spam?
>>1375244yeah, espionage is pretty shit. desu
>>1375193thanks pardner
>>1375227Prosperous Unification.
Why does this game feel so right during the exploration stage?
>>1375381It's the one time when the game isn't a slog in both gameplay and performance and when you're not trapped inside your own borders for most of the playthrough.Cloaking has actually alleviated this greatly by allowing Science ships to come and go as they please, as well as allowing you to set up ambushes with military fleets and doing pre-emptive strikes with specialized cloaked military fleets ready to attack critical enemy systems as soon as the war starts. Too bad the AI barely interacts with the feature. The only ways I've seen AI use cloaking is for their own science ships and for Fallen Empires who have Starbases that can detect your cloaked ships.
>>1375250There is no one size fits all anymore. Its rock paper scissors now.If you do want a jack of all trades try triple afterburners disruptor cruisers. Should fuck ass pretty good.I just base my fleets off how i used to do things back in hoi3, lol. Just a rough USN carrier group from WW2 but in space. Works every time
Bullshit missile cruiser will beat everything until the late game.Disruptors are complete shit and mono fleets still beat mixed ones.
>>1375227Used to like shoulders of giants until they ruined it by making precursor events pop up only 100 years in to the game. Now remnant is my go to start

Couldn't they just have buffed point defense to make a viable option against missiles?>>1374832Yeah, but according to typical stellaris gameplay as soon as we find a couple habitable planets planets a portion of the population will suddenly decide that it's actually very cool
>>1375492point defense is already good it's just the ai doesn't build it most of the time

>>1375617DLC should have really come with a 'primitives' ship pack too.
>>1375617>First Contact DLC gives us MSI, an entirely unique and custom Empire unlike any Paradox has made before, with custom name, portraits, backgrounds and Origin, none of which can be used by the player.>Outside of the one destroyed ship you find orbiting your world all of their ships use Mammalian Shipset for some reason, the polar opposite of what MSI ships are designed to look like.>Don't think their Observation Posts have a unique appearance or anything.>They can't even use Humanoid ships despite being 'Humanoid' aliens because Humanoid content is locked behind their own DLC paywall.
>Create a martial federation with a neighbour>They change their civic to fanatic purifiers a couple years aftershould i be worried bros
>>1375644Worry not anon! The happy merchant DLC will soon be available for YOU to purchase for the low cost of 10€!
Is there a way to change/influence the ethics in my vassal empire? I play a fanatic xenophile egalitarian and a fanatic authoritarian empire became my vassal willingly, but now I got an event that my pops are furious due to the fact that I have alliance with slavers.
>>1375654Afaik vassals will slowly but surely adjust their ethics to those of their overlords, as long as they are on good terms (read: loyal). I also think there's a law or two in the galactic community that helps speed this up.
>>1375668nice, thanks for info
>>1375646Is he still your friend?
>>1375707>fanatic purifier>friends

>>1375854That's pretty cool story. I would wait for AI getting close to victory and then tagswitch and play as their empire.
>>1375854That's pretty epic. It do be like that sometimes.I'm thinking about doing a lithoid hivemind or lithoid criminal megacorp or church which campaign would be more interesting?
is this game final polished product or they still releasing shit and changing everything constantly?
>>1375992Why ask a question you already know the answer to?
>>1375992It's closer to the second, although>changing everything constantlyis an overstatement. Right now, they've built a house and are finishing decorating and buying the last few missing pieces of furniture. You can play multiple long campaigns in Stellaris and not even notice that something might be missing it's the meaningful ground combat and internal politics that actually matter
Reinstalled Windows, all my selfcrafted Nations With different origins are gone;(
>>1370301Great marketing anon
I hate it when i get random refugees despite citizen species only policy abd most of all i hate lithoids. I dont mind multiple species so long as they arent lithoids i wish i could have a lithoid section similar to ai where i could say be xenophile to everyone but lithoids rocks are not people
I'm about to start a Stellaris campaign with the Star Trek mod, who should I play as? I've only done the Romulans before and it was pretty boring (I think events just didn't fire or something as I got no lore shit).
>>1375854why does the quantum catapult take a full YEAR to charge, and you can't even pre charge it your fleet has to just sit there while it does?also, anyone else notice the wiki is down?
>>1376015I think ground combat "could" be made cool but im not sure I care that much about it. Would love anything resembling internal politics and more differences between say dictatorships and democracies.
>>1376090How the fuck are you getting random refugees if you are on citizen species only?Maybe you need to change your default species rights. You can set them to something other than full citizenship and they should not be allowed to arrive as refugees.I agree with your Lithoid statement. I love refugees when im playing gene ascension as i can simply fix any shitty race that arrives. Except lithiods. Those Riggers can't fucking become fertile and it pisses me off.
>>1376243>>1376090You need to change the Default Species Rights for each individual species so that they're not considered citizens once you encounter them. Why every species is considered a Citizen as default in anything other than Empires that are some form of Xenophile + Egalitarian is a mystery to me, but it's probably something to do with the AI not being too smart on how to maximize its own Pops.
>going for a nice federation game>spawn directly next to criminal syndicate>starts infiltrating all of my planets, have to spam enforcers everywhere>get tired of it and retstart>next game>spawn next to xenophobes with nobody else around>they rush meI hate this game sometimes.
>>1376266What? Doesn't it automatically change it? You set default rights and then click reset to default rights and every species now follow the new template of rights? (That isn't your founder species?)
>>1376266To add, for all accounts, there *should* more interaction between Ethics, Civics, and especially AI personalities on how they utilize Policies and Default Species Rights to make the galaxy's empires more varied.>>1376269My mistake, yes you're right. It's just that every other Empire doesn't seem to bother to play with Policies and Species rights as the player does.
>>1376272>>1376266It would probably help both players and AI if the species screen got a rework that could help you organize various species towards the roles you want them to fill. Even in a xenophile "everybody has the same rights" democracy, you still want the species specialized in science or military to go into those categories. Instead the species screen is just a mess, especially when you start having to deal with variants.
>>1376268Shouldnt having two AI Federation members as allies from day 1 make rushes a non-issue?
>>1376275Traits already give job preference weights. It's not true management of course but generally speaking specialized pops will try to fill jobs they are good at as far as i understand it.
>>1376277No, I mean I was spawning as someone looking to federate with someone else, but all I find are assholes.
>>1376289Liberation wars are your friend. You just need 1 planet and a white peace. Your newly liberated nation will happily join your federation.
>>1376157I havent played it before but does it have events for the breen? Playing a race like cardassiabs or breen that joins the dominion war sounds fun.
>>1376243But i do want species that join my empire to be free citizens, i just dont want pops of species i have never met.
>>1376358There are event files for the Cardassians but not for the Breen. I can't tell you much more than that.
>First contact is all about finding and interacting with pre-ftls and pre-sapients>The events are balanced in such a way that preFTLs always die, even if you try to "provide aid" or whatever, they will still die to plagues with no way for you to stop it>AI always invades or uplifts every single preftl (or sometimes they die to the stupid events) within their borders so there's literally none in the galaxy if they don't spawn right next to youI've restarted ten times to try and get access to preftls, I've yet to have a single one last more than 30 years before some event automatically makes them fully aware or wipes them out. I can't go find more, because by 50 years in the galaxy is purged of preftl life. Also i get you can't play MSI because its an advanced empire, but the lack of a single civic or origin to be an MSI STYLE empire seems silly. Like why would there not be a preftl focused civic for a megacorp? Also, why can't i just create preftls on empty planets once i reach a certain tech level? Seeding the galaxy with life is a common scifi trope and helps alleviate most of these issues.
>>1376454I've certainly gotten primitives to live and survive in some of the new events.Unfortunately, they always, without exception, kill themselves off or send themselves back to the Stone age in a nuclear war during the Atomic Age with that instant, unavoidable pop-up event that primitives already had in 3.6 and previous versions of the game.I saw 3 primitive planets in a x5 Primitives playthrough do it just inside my borders. The only primitives that survive past the Atomic age and into an Early-Space Age are the ones with the lost scientist who alwats survives and is embraced as a god instantly turning bronze age primitives into a FTL Civilization in less than 10 years. The non-First Contact DLC primitive events seriously need an overhaul.
>>1376470Solution allow the player to build hidden orbital anti missile defenses to protect the primitives from their own stupidity.
>>1376470I hate that lost scientist event because nothing you do meaningfully affects the outcome. In general the new system with its awareness bar, diplomacy etc feels great, but the events ruin it. All of the new features allow me to interact with and have more control over preftls, but then the events totally take that control away, because there are no fucking choices. Also, the lack of an operation to lower the tech level is stupid. I know its an exceptionally difficult task to set a civilization back that far, but frankly aliens could absolutely manipulate people in ways that could cause a regression, like creating evidence modern ways or technology is dangerous, starting a new luddite religion etc.
>>1375992Finished products are not the PDX models, there will be new DLC until sales are completely dead
>>1376474You shouldn't need to do that, your observation station should be more than powerful enough to prevent nuclear fission with fuck you tachyon star trek technobabble beams.
>>1376474Just making a similar, First Contact DLC Situation that replaces the original event consisting of a Cold War arms race starting between the primitive fragmented nations that the player has the option to observe, escalate or deescalate would work, as well as different variations of potential situations.Depending on pop ethics, player actions, and chance there's an option that>Nuclear War Starts, everyone dies, Tomb World created.>Nuclear War Starts, some survive back into the Stone Age, Tomb World created.>Minor nuclear conflict starts, pops die. World advances to Early space age. Horrified by the horrors of the war there's a global ethics shift towards Pacifism.>Minor nuclear conflict starts, and pops die. The world advances to Early space age. Unified under a single victorious polity, there's a global ethics shift towards Militarism.>Nuclear war is adverted. World advances to Early Space Age.>>1376476Same situation as the nuclear war event above. Make it a developing Situation where you can change your approach to it as the situation progresses, with multiple variations to how it can develop.
>>1369831You know what the funniest fucking thing is?Paradox hired the Stellaris Dynamic Political Events guy (Caligula Caesar) and instead of putting him to work on integrating his content into the game and making more, they put him into the EU4 DLC mill. I hate corpos so fucking much.
>>1376484>instead of putting him to work on integrating his content into the game and making more, they put him into the EU4 DLC mill.
>>1376474>>1376479>That crap>Not sending the janitor
>>1376484Up next, anbennar devs will be hired to work on stellaris.
>>1376479Unfortunately, primitives with Early Space Age tech are just simply capable of sending a missile to it and destroying it, just like in the Lost Scientist event.
I want an ascension perk or galactic community position where i can intervene in absolutely any war against the aggressor. I want to take steps beyond their imagining against any act of interstellar aggression, or buildup towards insterstellar aggression. These worlds are ours, we should use them together, use them in peace.
>>1376490>Observation station HP takes several nuclear missiles to destroy from FTL era empires>Single pre ftl nuclear missile destroys itWat
>>1376482I like that, but there should be an option to intervene and threaten all sides, at a cost of minor local modifiers and potential for the whole thing backfiring and primitives forming new, young and angry space empire.
>>1376494That's the power of storytelling.
>>1376494And a Fanatic Purifier needs months or years of orbital bombardment to turn a planet into a tomb world but the so called primitves can do it in a day.
Wow Stronger Orbital Bombardment actually got updated.
>Broken Shackles>Finally build up to fight Minamar>Has way too many vassals/tributaries, would be a 1v10 >Promise to support independence to just 1 tributary>They declare war but instead of being a 2v10 like I expected, other nations rose up so its about 5v5kino. to war
>>1376567>MinamarAre they actually op or are they just another advanced empire?
>>1376568It feels like just another advanced empire to me
OH BABY A TRIPLE
>Paradox fucked around with the purge policy mechanics, now you can no longer displace pops even with the displacement only policy activePlease understand, small indie company.
>>1376568Just an advanced empire with some special modifiers. It's not unlikely that they'll get BTFO by some AI empire before you even get to them, especially on a big map.
>>1376015>>1376213Combat in general is the worst part of Stellaris; quite literally below gacha games As for politics, the game is missing so much politic options is insane. Just think about how weak espionage options can be or how you can't destabilize a singular planet before conquering
>>1376489They got a Hoi4 Tranny to do events for Vic3. If the only crosscontamination for Stellaris comes from EU4 I'd be much happier than if they brought HoI4 trannies to make content.
>>1376015>ground combatit will be in stellaris 2
>>1376738So there is a mod that buffs them right?Or would starting without guranteed habitals be enough?
Can someone explain to me why this game is so popular?I just started playing for the first time this sale, and picked up Utopia, Federations, Leviathan, and Synthetic Dawn.So far the game more or less just plays it self. Colonies develop on their own, I'm never at any risk of running out of resources, the economy is basically just a single-click, the military aspect of the game is just having a bigger number than your neighbor, and the core gameplay loop is basically just my science ships flying around getting random popups about some procedurally-generated research boost or something. Why is this hailed as one of the greatest games of all time?
>>1376807>Why is this hailed as one of the greatest games of all time? It's not.
>>1376802You could play with advanced empires set to 0, and Minamar will be the only advanced AI on the map. That's what I did, and by the time I found them, they had vassalized a good handful of empires
>>1376811>?The steam page is filled with reviews calling it Paradox's best game and one of the best strategy games of all time
>>1376807>Why is this hailed as one of the greatest games of all time?>So far the game more or less just plays it self. You've answered yourself. Games that play themselves are all the rage. Losing is passe, thinking is so tiring after work. Gachas, clickers, awesome buttons, endless treadmills. That's the good stuff. And Stellaris is extra great, because it's a cookie clicker that fools you into thinking you're playing an actual strategy game.
>>1376807You're looking at it from a purely gameplay mechanics standpoint and through those lens, you're right; nobody here would disagree, that IS what it all comes down to fundamentally. The deep enjoyers of this game enjoy the RP aspects which requires using some imagination and immersion to fully get.
>>1376824While I agree with you, it's honestly closer to LARP than RP. Stellaris has fuck all mechanics to facilitate roleplaying. There's basically two flavors of empires mechanically - kill everyone you meet via doomstack number comparison or sit on your ass and do fuck all but watch your stats grow all game. Civics, habitatabilities, traditions, traits, it's all just window dressing for the same boring homogenized shit. Your deeply spiritual, clergy-ruled empire will function exactly the same as the godless democracy, except your Politicians will be called High Priests and will produce 0.000005 more perk mana per month. It's all in your head with Stellaris, not in the game.
>>1376820>Have to spawn in advanced empires at the start unless you want minamar to most likely be your endgame enemy
>>1376821How many Steam pages are filled with reviews of people saying it's the best game ever? Is Stellaris unique in that?>calling it Paradox's best gameWhat a crock

>>1376821I just checked the store page and didn't see a single instance of your two given statements, much less have the reviews full of it.
Being a Gundam fan, I can't resist the urge to go Psionic for my humans everytime and it feels good having huge tech Leader buffs. I wonder what the other paths like Cyborgs or Synthetic is like, really going to have to force myself to resist the urge next time
Do you need to buy the corresponding Species Pack DLC to have those species show up as random AI empires in a game, or is the DLC just so you can play as them?
Did I make a mistake doing Broken Shackles before Payback? Broken Shackles seems like a better origin in terms of narrative and story potential by a lot
>>1376871I always get boreed before finishing synthetics, but i have done cyborg. Its a bit like a cross between psionic and genetic. Like genetic, you love modifying pops, like psionic you have leader bonuses. You get to build organic pops at roboticists and can apply versions of the machine traits to your organic pops, plus combine your machine+genetic modification points into one pool.

The chance of primitives nuking themselves is 12 times higher than it's supposed to be.>This mod fixes the trigger to be annual instead of monthly so 99% of primitives won't commit suicide 2 seconds after you meet them.I still think Nuclear War should be preluded by a Cold War Situation that can be interacted with, but this is a good fix for now.
>>1377031Cybernetic is pretty pog IMO. You get organic pop assembly meaning you can stack gene clinic with the robot assembly plant. You can also do funny double stacking of bio and machine traits to get pretty high output in certain fields.the Durable trait specific to cyborgs is also competing for the strongest trait in the whole game in my opinion.Synth can't have much fun with traits, Gene requires a ridiculous amount of food to fully capitalize on it's pop growth and Psi has terrible pop growth and if you don't roll the covenant you are just shit out of luck.Cybernetic just feels the best to play right now imo.
