Hands down the best Star Wars RTS. When will we get a spiritual successor?
>>1302269>When will we get a spiritual successor? When the EA exclusivity deal expires and some strategy game studio gets a Star Wars contract.I do wish save games were faster, though. I stopped playing it after modded campaigns took 3 minutes to save - I even preferred when saves occasionally got corrupted before.
>>1302277>EA exclusivityDoesn't exist anymore, they lost that back in 2021.
>>1302269>the best Star Wars RTSThose are some damn fighting words
>>1302269I really enjoy this game for the scale it brings to star wars, on top of being all of the fun parts of a 4x game done in a very simple way. It's like 'Imperialism' only I also get to be The Empire and enjoy the sensation of developing a crushing war machine. Every unit of stormtroopers being an investment on the big galaxy map makes everything feel so fun and serious. I don't consider either part essential, I'd play a game that gave me either experience, but together they're just great.
The space battles in this game was great but its land battles could use some work. If there's ever a spiritual successor to Empire at War, they should adopt CoH style squad combat.
>>1302277recent update a few weeks back made saving fast af.
>>1302744Yeah, land battles against the AI basically comes down to >do you have turbolaser emplacements and base shields?>yes? The enemy literally can't beat you.
I've wasted all christmass playing Star Wars strategy games lmao. Right now I'm doing a run with Zsinj in EaWX.My ranking from best to worst:1. Rebellion2. Empire at War3. Galactic Battlegrounds4. Force Commander (the music is great tho).>>1302269Rebellion is a better strategy game. EaW is only worth playing because of Thrawn's Revenge, vanilla is boring as fuck.>>1302640It's just AoE with a reskin.
>>1304509>1.RebellionMein neggerLoved that game back in my school days.
>>1304509>1. RebellionI tried playing that on gameranger with some dude that knew all the mechanics and even gave me the fucking manual to read, but i was too lazy to go through after seeing the weird but incredibly cool events of characters like Luke evolving from being captured/going to a certain planet, meeting another character, etc.
In addition to coming out with a new version of Thrawn's Revenge sometime this year I think the same team behind it may be getting ready to release Revan's Revenge based on the Old Republic era content.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2Ivbmdja-A&ab_channel=CoreyLoses

https://www.moddb.com/mods/republic-at-war/news/comeback-for-republic-at-war\>republic at war is backBased, first mod for EAW I ever played and I've always had a soft spot for it.
>>1302269Star Wars used to be so kino. Now I’m embarrassed to have ever liked it in the first place.
>>1310132You've just grown up.
I've been playing multiplayer campaigns with my friend, game is great but balance in vanilla FoC is kinda fucked up.Empire almost always wins because space battles are almost impossible for Rebels to win if Empire plays their cards right. Imperial ships have hangars, which means that an empire player really needs to do nothing more than spam big ships and fighters and bombers just come along for free. Rebels on the other hand have to use unit cap on fighters and bombers, meaning their already less powerful ships are competing for space and are less numerous than the Empire's ships in a given battle. Now, you may think the solution to this is for Rebels to make fleets of nothing but x-wings and y-wings and hit the capital ships, but this doesn't work for one simple reason-Boba Fett. Boba's ability is ridiculously strong, and basically just means any fighters or bombers you bring to a battle are basically not there, since if you deploy them, they will be instakilled by the unavoidable seismic charge. And finally, if you manage to get around the problem of Boba Fett and have a good number of ships, there is always the last bs thing the Empire has-the Death Star. If all else fails, they can simply bring this, and its essentially unstoppable in FoC playing as rebels.
Preview for the Mandalorian fleet in the upcoming Revan's Revenge mod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EnOO7o62jI&ab_channel=CoreyLoses
>>1312196Try screening your capital ships with Correllian Corvettes. They chew up TIEs.
>>1312247That's the current strategy, basically just having as many of them as possible, paired with Home One (if they don't use Boba Fett to take him out) and as many Nebulon B's as you can bring is enough to win some early battles. Problem I run into is that I end up running out of corvettes by the end of the battle. Prob a skill issue ngl
i liked FoC for the first playthrough as Zann but couldn't play it much because doing the same missions all the time for the corruption mechanic was just so fucking tedious. how do you manage, anon?
>>1312629you get a mod that doesn't have that
I somehow feel a bit burned out from EaW since the 2.9 release of AotR. The space combat change somehow really killed my enthusiasm for the entire game.>>1302269>When will we get a spiritual successor? No one knows, petroglyph have repeatedly stated that they are interested in making a successor and supposedly neither EA nor Disney are averse to the idea. If ever it's not anytime soon, currently petroglyph already has at least 2 titles in the work, with one being on hold to develop the other, and we might just end up getting monkey pawed.>>1302301>I really enjoy this game for the scale it brings to star wars, on top of being all>>1305196Releasing Revan's Revenge with the x.3 cycle was at least their plan unless something has changed. I think they've even started working on their GCW mod, not that it doesn't share most assets with FotR and TR.
>>1312879>petroglyph have repeatedly stated that they are interested in making a successor and supposedly neither EA nor Disney are averse to the idea.It will never happen. Even if it did, EA would ensure that the game will be shit, and Disney would ensure that it will be about their shitty "new canon."
>>1313331An Empire at War sequel but set in the shitty sequel era would be the worst monkey's paw for this game.
>>1302269What's up with the amount of absolutely massive and constantly updated mods for this game specifically? Is it just very easily moddable?
>>1314188Yes and no, it is easily moddable in a sense, but unless you or your team know stuff like LUA you won't be making big changes. It's biggest advantage is that it is the easiest to mod Star Wars RTS, has a large library of fan-made and ported models, while also being supported by the devs. Petroglyph has removed several barriers that the bigger mods were being hindered by in patches in the last few years.Starting to mod can be a pain, as there are not complete tutorials for even something as basic as making a faction that can capture points in ground battles. So unless you join another team to learn, or is good friends with the dudes that have modded the game since release, you are in for a lot of trial and error, or reverse engineering another mod.
>>1310132The first two films were good enough, but I always thought the games (the good ones) were infinitely more interesting and enjoyable then the franchise they were based on.
>>1310132>>1314570George Lucas admitted that he wasn't good at writing dialog. Also, there is only so much that you can put into a ~2 hour film. With video games, and long running tv series like The Clone Wars, you have the freedom to be much more comprehensive.
It is a great that an old game like this continues to have a fantastic modding community but it is still dispiriting that Star Wars strategy gamers have to rely on this rather than get actual new strategy games. We've had Star Wars Rebellion, Force Commander, Forces of Corruption and...? And nothing. Game developers like EA who have permission to create Star Wars games have displayed appalling lack of ambition and imagination when it comes to strategy games.Star Wars Armada EXISTS for crying out loud. Why can't we have at least a video game version of that? Warhammer has Battlefleet Gothic Armada- its not we're asking them to reinvent the wheel.
>>1314812the golden age of RTS games has been over for over a decade
Should I try this game if I don't like SW?
>>1314940Not to sure, it at the very least wouldn't be an immediate recommendation from me.It isn't a bad strategy game, especially the space player and integration of battles in the overall campaign but it isn't super astonishing and many simply auto resolve ground battles because they aren't good. The main draw for me is that it's a star wars rts.
Was petroglyph the only developer that understood having separate breakable parts is the ideal way to design large units? Whittling down a big HP bar is tedious compared to crippling legs in UaW or blowing off turrets in EaW.Company of Heroes had tanks getting crippled engines and such which was neat but in practice past the early game they'd always die immediately after.
>>1314812Isn't it fucking weird that FFG made that Rebellion tabletop game which is a watered down version of the actual PC game?
>>1314570The expanded universe of Star Wars have always been more interesting and better written than the movies.
There any mod that adds Disney stuff yet?
>>1315414Why the fuck
>>1302269I mean do we even have content for Post Ep VI in Disney Wars? Will it just be reskin of the Empire but with annoying units? (Sure there's a few changes, I've heard the new Ties now have hyperspace drives for example).
>>1315414God, I hope not
Which is the best mod?https://strawpoll.com/polls/1MnwOPawKn7
Is there a single major mod that doesn't remove the consortium?
>>1316326Can't think of a major mod that does it but I'd bet there are a few. Thrawn's Revenge does keep some of the characters and ships like Zann in the Merciless but ditches the corruption mechanic. Thrawn's Revenge takes place post Endor and the Imperials and Warlords have a legitimacy mechanic that allows you to attract different characters to your cause based on how powerful you are. Because Warlord Zsinj liked to hire pirates and criminals the first legimacy group that he gains is always Zann. This also allows Zsinj to build some of the Consortium units.
>>1316480I should also add that in this mod certain planets can build unique units if you get their loyalty up to level 10. If you conquer Mandalore and boost their loyalty you can build the Canderous Tank along with Mandalorian infantry and jetpack units.
>>13162472.8 AotR > Thrawn's Revenge > 2.9+ AotR I just can't deal with that mod>>1316326Can't recall any from the top of my head. It's partially because many mods are old and/or focus on the old EU, part if the reason why some have the black sun.Removing the empire and rebels was for most not an option and swapping the consortium is an easy way to get a new faction.Doesn't help that the corruption mechanic wasn't liked by everyone.
>>1309408Do you know what I absolutely fucking hate about the phrase>rts died outThat at this point it's basically a self fulfilling prophecy. There's supposed to be a "low interest in RTS games" therefore no company will throw big money for a new blockbuster RTS game. And since there's no new big RTS games the interest keeps "low". There are literal thousands of RTS players including me who just sit in hibernation waiting for something new worth playing, because they played all the old stuff 1000 times over.
>>1317596>rts died out>no company will throw big money for a new blockbuster RTS gameGood, keep it that way, I don't want EGS bullshit here.
is remake stable yet ? Or do the saves still get corrupted constantly.
>>1315559Just realized the new star was sucks so bad people would rather make mods of other franchises than star wars itself.
>>1320011We will never have a direct sequel but there is an upcoming Star Wars strategy game. Let's wait to see if its gameplay is similar so it can be considered a spiritual successor.

>>1320227>The third title is a Star Wars strategy game developed through a production collaboration with the newly formed studio Bit Reactor, helmed by games industry veteran Greg Foerstch. Respawn will produce the new Star Wars strategy game while Bit Reactor leads on the development of the title.>Bit Reactor: We collectively developed some of the most successful games you’ve heard of, such as XCOM, Civilization, Gears of War, and Elders Scrolls Online.Makes me think it'll be like one of the 40k strategy games, either Mechanicus or Gladius.
i dont understand how to play this game in the clone wars.im getting attacked everywhere and i dont know which systems to focus on. should i hunker down and take small pieces of territory or go for broke and fight the enemy navy?playing as CIS
>>1324367Which clone wars mod are you playing? If it's Republic at War, you want to be aggressive early on. The CIS has a major naval advantage (Munificents mog Republic cruisers early game) but starts falling off later into the game.In fact, the easiest strategy as the Republic is to focus on holding the Core Worlds while building up a large enough navy to kill the CIS.If it's the Empire at War Expanded Clone Wars mod, I haven't tried it enough to really tell
>>1324408the regular mod is what i'm playing. guess i'll stop being a pussy and start going after important shit right at the start and forgo defensealso are regular b1s worth a shit to build?
>>1324347>another civ cutout fucking 4X gameI cannot. They missed the bus with Dune and Warhammer with that. Make an RTS or some kind of GSG going with the Zeitgeist. Civ people barely play a "strategy" game in first place.
>>1310128Is this the mod that was hideously and hilariously unbalanced with the Confederacy having a ton of 'fuck you' ships and the AI cheating out units like a motherfucker, resulting in those screenshots of shit like "end of battle report: you killed twenty lucrehulks"?
>>1312879>The space combat change somehow really killed my enthusiasm for the entire gameSame feels. I've tried at least twice to start a new campaign with Empire but the space combat feels just meh. I know that they nerfed SDs a ton in favor of fighters and bombers. So instead of big capital ships duking it out, it's now it's balanced around faggoty ass frigates and fighter carriers.
>>1302269never since mainstream rts is dead
>>1325486That's the oneNothing beats the feeling of killing a shit ton of enemy capitals with nothing but a level 3 space station and a ground-to-space laser.
>>1322856Is anyone else looking forward to be being able to play as the Central Committee of Grand Moffs as the alternate leader choice to Isaard?
>>1325675I wish that we could stay with them for the whole game, instead of the gay coups that keep you in command of a faction you didn't side with.
>>1325713You will be able to stick with any Imperial regime across the entire game in 3.3 though, you have to have the leader die or manually choose to advance as the only ways to move on from Pestage>Isard/Central Committee>Thrawn.
>>1325747Can I start as the Empire of the Hand, conquer the Empire, and make Thrawn the new Emperor?
>>1325486Yes, and it's fun as fuck.
>Zsinj>look it up>a fat balding dumbfuckwtf give me someone cool and sexy like Thrawn, not this space porky.>After the defeat of Director of Imperial Intelligence Ysanne Isard, Zsinj became the target of a New Republic campaign against himwasn't even good enough to be a main target, but some sloppy seconds. What kind of ultimate autist turbonerd would want to play this guy?
>>1325822No since Empire of the Hand is intended as a separate faction outside the legitimacy system. I think the TR team mentioned they wanted to plan a way for Thrawn to stay with the EotH if you want to keep him at but the Hand in general have the biggest dearth of content of the playable factions anyway since they have no government mechanic at all right now and likely won't until the Chiss Ascendancy ever get represented.>>1327086>doesn't respect Warlord WarioZsinj was such a threat in-universe he had nearly a third of the known galaxy under his control and it took the New Republic, Empire, Hapans and various warlords just to bring his empire down. His faction is also one of the most fun warlords since he has a very esoteric roster on top of the normal Imperial staples.
>>1327086>wtf give me someone cool and sexy like Thrawn, not this space porky.Zsinj, is probably one of the cooler warlords. By dismissing him so casually chances are that you probably would have been an easy victim. Zsinj deliberately cultivated his looks and personality so as to deliberately mislead his opponents and lead them to underestimating him.Despite his his rotund, almost jovial appearance Warlord Zsinj was a stone cold killer and capable tactician. He was also a genius who could speak over 60 languages. He first rose to prominence in the early days of the Empire. His mother was an admiral in commanding a Venator Star Destroyer. She denounced the Empire and the Emperor as corrupt and went rogue. As a demonstration of his loyalty Zsinj hunted down and killed his own mother using his Victory Star Destroyer "Iron Fist."He rose rapidly through the ranks and at the time of Endor he was a Grand Moff in charge of an oversector. He might have been one of the most cunning post-Endor Imperial leaders besides Thrawn. And he was only brought down by what was essentially extremely bad luck, not his own mistakes.
>>1328728Superior General Delvardus on the other hand is a warlord that deserves some criticism. How can you to lose to a New Republic fleet composed of Y-wings and Nebulon-Bs when you are commanding a Praetor II Battlecruiser? Was he commanding the battle with his eyes closes ffs?!Still I like his faction the best because of the ship roster. He's the only one that allows me to build the Assertor Super Star Destroyer.
Never played the game. Is there any mod easy enough to jump right in or would you recommend I play vanilla for 5 years first?
>>1328821I think both are fine but vanilla is very dated feeling where as mods help that. Thrawn's revenge is more like vanilla compared to awakening of the rebellion. For me I would say if you're a huge star wars nerd and want to see all the characters or units you'd want play a mod. Otherwise maybe consider the base game if you aren't a onions wars fan.https://youtu.be/fzjqlidA3og
>>1328902Also, Thrawn's Revenge starts with multiple scenarios and eras. If you are worried about difficulty just play a later era as the New Republic. They are so powerful by the end game and their opponents so weak that it is a very forgiving game playing experience. The Empire is reduced to their holdout positions in the old Pentastar territory and a few fortress worlds in the deep core. The corporate sector is a minor nuisance. The Empire of the Hand might be the biggest threat but even they are nowhere near your power level.
>>1328821>>1328913last time i played thrawn's revenge i was able to steamroll the galaxy with the starting fleet i had as one of the imperial factions, maybe thrawn. certainly even if you can't play the game you cannot lose. but vanilla is not that difficult anyway. even as a complete shitter as the empire you can just take over a few bottleneck/key systems and turtle until you get a big enough fleet and the death star and bypass the ground combat altogether.
>>1311837z3r0x's FOC mod is one of my undisputed favorites, I honestly hope this means he might revisit that one as well at some point down the line.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtsnGm_np8YDetails of how the Imperial Regime and Dark Empire transition will work in TR 3.3
Early game in AOTR is so AIDs, especially as Empire. You don't have shit to take out fighters reliably, TIE's are fuckin useless and all your enemies spam them.
>>1327086>talking shit about ZsinjYou're a faggot. The guy can speak a shit load of languages, flies around in his own stolen Super Star Destroyer and cucks Dathomiri witches.
>>1330543>cucks Dathomiri witches.Elaborate.
>>1329647I'm incredibly hyped to see world devestators return
>>1330719In the Legends continuity Palpatine didn't want the witches running around causing mischief in his new empire while at the same time preserving Dathomir so it could be used as a talent pool that he could potentially tap for expendable dark side users.Grand Moff Zsinj controlled the Oversector where Dathomir was located. Upon receiving orders from the Emperor he immediately bombarded the planet, destroying all space port facilities and ships. hurling the planet back to the pre-spaceflight era. Zsinj then set up a permanent blockade of the planet to make sure no one escaped. After Endor when Zsinj became a warlord he made the space above Dathomir the location of Rancor Base, his hidden shipyards and repair facilities. All the inhabitants of the planet lived only because Zsinj didn't see the need to destroy them. On the few occasions that Zsinj deigned to communicate to anyone on the surface they had to bow and scrape because they knew the Imperial Warlord could wipe them out on a whim. This bowing and scraping even included the current leader of the Nightsisters.
>>1317755saves are stable, but the ground combat is still turboass, whatever jackass came up with the idea of regiment units should be fucking shot
>>1333105>still turboass, whatever jackass came up with the idea should be fucking shotHonestly that describes remake as a whole pretty well. It's chock-full with ideas that might sound nice on paper but are pure ass when actually implemented.
>>1333206>Space stations so powerful you're better off just autoresolving>Land battles so shit you might as well just autoresolve>Industrial management is alright but not enjoyable enough for a full gameI don't get how people can enjoy it to begin with
>>1333283You forgot:>space battle visuals so focused on being pretty that it is unreadable and you're better of autoresolving>ai having so many advantages that you screw yourself over if you keep autoresolving>I don't get how people can enjoy it to begin withI liked it well enough when it was version 3.0, the lack of ground battles could be nice but the devs are way to high from huffing their own shit. Now I basically only have the extended mods to play.I just wish AotR never switched to it's new space battle system, I simply can't get into it.
For me, it's Ultimate Corruption.
Is there a mod that lets me larp as an imperial commander in the movie timeline? i know thats kinda base game but its kinda lacking. i played empire on 1st scenario of thrawns revenge but dont know much about star wars and was upset i didnt have darth vader
>>1333738I recommend Absolute Chaos. Despite the name, it's not really chaos. Pretty much vanilla with shit bolted onto it, rather than total overhauls that most mods are. A thing to note, Thrawn stuff is pre-disney that took place after the movies, so no Vader.
>>1333738I'll just take this opportunity to shill the Timothy Zahn Star Wars Trilogy novels that tell what happened after Return of the Jedi.Since I know everyone doesn't have time to read some fairly long books I'll point you to the comic book adaptations.https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Star-Wars-Heir-to-the-Empirehttps://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Star-Wars-Dark-Force-Risinghttps://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Star-Wars-The-Last-CommandThey are fairly well done adaptions of the books with one major exception. >>1340770Zsinj is supposed to be the infantry-centric faction. Your raptor infantry are your bread and butter.>Finally integrate them and find out their crimson vsds are just reskinsYes, but they're some of the most aesthetic VSDs in the game. They're also slightly buffed compared to standard Victory 2 star destroyers
>>1340770Zsinj is mostly infantry as the other anon said, his Raptor troopers are your main source of vehicle damage with their rockets and heavy mines. However the A9 is an amazing support vehicle for them being able to carry a large amount, provide healing and has a great anti-infantry cannon to deal with opposing infantry hordes along with sensor ping for map coverage. Beyond that the IDT gunship is also great for damage against vehicles and infantry movement, and his SPMA-T variant is a direct fire artillery that needs LOS to hit a target but does great damage to vehicles when it connects.>>1340887>They're also slightly buffed compared to standard Victory 2 star destroyersThey are statistically the same as normal VSD-2s. The main benefit of integrating GM as another Imperial is getting Victory 2 access if you have none already, which really only benefits Eriadu and Pentastar as Empire and Zsinj have the base one in their roster where the CC version is just flavor.
>>1340887>>1340901>Raptor troopers are your main source of vehicle damage with their rockets and heavy mines.I just don't want to send them in droves to die like canon fodder. They're decently cheap and all but i just feel bad watching squad after squad dying as they engage an AT-AT, self-destructing LAVs and the xr85 tank droids which are all a pain to kill without proper vehicles
>>1341635That's what the A9 and your other vehicles are mostly for, they supplement your Raptors and fill up damage niches. The Imperial Armored Personal Carrier and IDT can get your Raptors in and out of sticky situations quick, your Ulavs and Raptor bikes can scout and harass the enemy so you know what you're aware of, and the AT-AP and turbolaser SMPG are for your backline to hit pummel their vehicles with. If you do just want to use your infantry more on their own it might be better to use Imperial Army Troopers too since they have a higher number per company and have specialized anti-infantry and anti-vehicle squads as well.
stupid dumb rebel scum
>>1340901>The main benefit of integrating GM as another Imperial is getting Victory 2 access if you have none already, which really only benefits Eriadu and PentastarI am here to recommend an alternative option: If you're playing on one of the maps that has the planet Bakura, then you can recruit the Bakura class destroyer at that planet if you have 9 influence. This thing is fucking nuts, look at the rate of fire it has on its turbolasers and ion cannons. Each guns shoots every 0.67 seconds, the DPS is extremely high for something that only costs 17 pop cap. I discovered these in my Pentastar alignment campaign that I was playing a few months ago and even though I eventually integrated Maldrood I didn't bother building any Victory IIs because I thought this thing was greatly superior thanks to its insane damage. Yeah it's kinda fragile but just keep some larger ships in front of it to take aggro. These things really came in handy during my apocalyptic fleet battles with Eriadu in the Core. Stack 3 or 4 of them together and they chew up ISDs (and SSDs) real good.
>AOTR>never played the mod>opened a Black Sun GC>want to make space liveleak videos with the space hutt cartel>corruption literally everywhere>rich as hell>fighter screening is kind of ass and doesn't defend my venators or other big ships from bombers whatsoever>literally every lvl 1 station i attack spawns 2 victory destroyers and dreadnoughts to ensure I suffer some attrition no matter what>hit level 3 hutt cartel tech>basically nothing new, just some beast master shit as ground units>have defenses on my more important worlds>ai breaks through with every rebellion hero together with a bunch more ships for good measure>oh well this planet's defenses are all on the ground>the rebels send the entire population of china to swarm the fuck out of everything like the zerg>planet drowns in tsunami of tier 2 rebels>I can't even make anything more than tier 1 pirates>look at AOTR wiki and see that the BS guide is a borderline blank WIPhow do you play them? in space a lot of weapons will pierce through shields, but the dps is too low to take out shields/important weapon points before far more of my own things are destroyed, and against rebels the fighter screening is so inaccurate that y-wings can pull off like 3 runs before they are finally taken out, in fact the mass drivers seem fucking useless in ground battles too because they can't hit anything. even the big siege walkers I have just miss over and over again until something runs up and blasts a bunch of missiles into it.
>>1342753The latest patch seems to heavily favor fighters, bombers and escort ships. It just feels garbage compared to previous versions so I haven't spent much time on it.
>>1342836>It just feels garbage compared to previous versions so I haven't spent much time on it.Truth, I've been unable to get into the newer versions. Although 2.8 > 2.9 and 2.10 desu, the space garrison change still bothers me 2.5 > rest
>>1342836I like having smaller craft being slightly favored, but in a mod where my navy is kind of ass until much later relative to other mods, it's kind of asinine to have my 10k credit ships ripped to shreds like that especially when I invest so much into fighter screening that just does nothing. even worse that it's just a level 1 station garrison spawning this shit on me so I can't send a small task force like in TR or even Remake.
faction with best artillery?
>>1343258in what mod? vanilla? TR?
>>1342853What's the difference between them? I've only played 2.10 and I had a blast in it.Tried fall of the republic after and it felt like a downgrade in every way.
>>1342905Yeah I'm not totally against the changes. Like the common theme in EU was how smaller crafts btfo'd lone Star Destroyers and such. The mid/late-game could be good but I just lose all the motivation to continue in the first few hours because the start is such a slog.
>>13434922.8 was the introduction of the new ground combat system with armor and weapon types, buffs and debuffs, status effects etc. Not without issues, unit AI and pathfinding are too bad for the system, but nonetheless fun.Space combat was still pretty normal and imperial prisons were still worthwhile.2.9 changed the space combat in the same way that 2.8 changed ground combat. Unit AI and controls are an issue once again even if pathfinding is better than on ground. Prisons became useless and space structures were completely changed. My biggest issue being that space stations no longer depend on defenses but a spawned in garrison fleet, it's composition depends on multiple factors which you can't know beforehand. In turn it gives the defender an advantage, which doesn't matter for the AI because it calculates to always send more units than it needs to take a planet. Combined with the combat change it feels like every battle forces you to do a long range siege everytime with artillery ships. To be fair I was so comfortable with 2.8 I didn't have any desire for it to change.2.5 is an ancient version, around 2010?, from the old SMG team. It was the introduction of the black sun and web way campaigns iirc. Back then units also had tiers i.e recruit stormtroopers, regulars and elite level stormtroopers. Was also pre battle for Yavin.A lot closer to old mods like RaW .
>>1340901>They are statistically the same as normal VSD-2sDon't they have more HP or some shit?
>>1304509Should I buy Rebellion off of Steam or is there a download for it, these sort of games usually don't have the best steam ports.
>>1343688>RebellionWith how ancient the game is you can just look for a gog version first before buying anything.
>you will never BDZ a rebellious planetwhy live
>>1338416As opposed to what? Chumbawumbus? Fartballs? Notsteel?
>>1343615In an earlier version Crimson Command VSDs were stronger. Current release they are the same except for a paintjob. I hope they'll change it back in the future.
Are labor camps useless in TR? Or did i fuck up in thinking it would keep the wookies in check by building it and forgetting about it until kashyyk got invaded
Any suggestions for a rebirth of the confederacy type mod?One where they return as a problem for the empire and not just mixed in with rebellion units?
Kind of struggling to keep interest in the Galactic Conquests for TR and other mods. I feel it's too easy to just rush your starting fleet and tear down enemy planets one at a time and then snowball from there. Also if you start with a super star destroyer it's just GG and you have to restrain yourself from using it otherwise it breaks the fragile balance. All buffing the AI does is just cause them to attack every 3 seconds which gets tedious. I want single, large and important battles, not 20 battles every ten minutes.what do anons?
>>1346074AOTR's Black Sun faction has a droid revolution research that makes it so all your units are Confederacy shit.
>>1333870>read all 3 books>still have no fucking idea wtf are most of the factions in TWBut nice novels. I wonder if I should whatch disney shit now just to compare.
>>1345988They give a build time reduction, meaning that you can pump out units and buildings faster. It's just hard to notice due to the way Empire at War models production.>>1346301The warlord period has tons of books. I think Zsinj's entire faction exists because of the X-Wing series.>I wonder if I should whatch disney shit now just to compare.Feel free to, but the Disney canon has an unbelievably shitty warlord era in comparison.
>>1346345>Disney canon has an unbelievably shitty warlord era in comparison.i didnt even think it had anything remotely similar, the way disney presented it, it just looked like the first order appeared out of literally nowhere with all this equipment and influence. even in mando the term "warlord" is used to describe some imperial shitters who only really amount to sector spanning gang at best. moff fring is literally flying around in an arquitens class because i assume thats the only thing he could find lying around.
>>1346551Based on the first two yidsney flicks, the first order isn't a remnant but a part of the republic and a minority party who are cucked out of power due to politicking. Only way to explain their base. Ergo a civil war type situation. But nothing is explained so lol. What trash settings
>>1334788That's good shit anon, thanks for sharing.
>>1324367Show system income, then look for hyperlane chokepoints. Determine which easily choke pointed grouping of planets will make the most money. The AIay bring huge fleets, but it's utterly retarded, you can win almost any defensive battle as long as you have a steady supply of fighters and bombers which are OP in every version of EAW I've ever played. CIS tend to get tons of strike craft and flak guns to suppress the enemies, so they are especially lethal against braindead AI.
>>1304509We really need a cross between Rebellion and Empire at War. The former has really cool ideas, but is very unintuitive and has no combat. Empire at War meanwhile has pretty bland campaign gameplay but fun space combat and great presentation.>>1309408Unironically: RTS is dead but grand strategy is still very popular. We need something like Warhammer Total War expect with Star Wars.
>>1313745I don't know how you could set it in the sequel era because that would require the sequel era to have a setting.
>>1314596>George Lucas admitted that he wasn't good at writing dialog. It's funny since, awkward though it can be, I think there are moments in a New hope that are actually really good dialogue wise. The scene with the Imperial generals talking is impressive in how much it gets across in such a short span of time.
>>1346731>Based on the first two yidsney flicks, the first order isn't a remnant but a part of the republic and a minority party who are cucked out of power due to politicking. Only way to explain their base.Doesn't it explicitly say that they are "Born out of the Empire"? I agree that your idea makes way more sense, but it doesn't actually seem to be the case.
>>1347076>A New HopeThe first three movies Lucas was working alongside other directors and writers and it wasn't him totally at the helm with full creative control like with the prequels. He had handlers going behind him cleaning up, editing, smoothing out things and correcting him. It most likely wasn't dialog he wrote in that instance.
>>1347091Could be. I often hear that his wife did a lot of cleanup to make the dialogue come across as less awkward, at least for a New Hope.
>>1345502>>1343615They are the same statistically yes, in lore the Havod materially isn't presented as any different from normal durasteel save the fact it was locally sourced in lieu of standard VSD construction materials. The TR devs have said if they did make any difference it'd amount to something like a 5% hull health gap at most between variants which isn't really worth it.
>>1346078Most of your complaints seem like they'll be rectified in .3 anyway since they have said they're focusing on reducing starting forces in most eras in lieu of more developed starting worlds and removing all starting SSDs except in historical maps meaning you'll have to purchase the Iron fist and Reaper upgrades for the relevant heroes.
>>1347742That's when you bring out the artillery, orbital bombardments, and air strikes. The empire is all about combined arms and siege warfare
>>1347750My ground forces have been lacking cause I've been so focused on trying to churn out ISDs. The rebels have been coming at me with 4-5 mon calamaris a fleet and the black sun have gone the droid revolution route. I have Vader cleaning the south west and Daala holding the core against non stop rebels. Starting to tech up my ground stuff now. The AT-AAs have been a godsend against U-wings, those things are insane.
>>1347084Maybe born out of it in the sense that there are people in the republic who want more empire and thus voted for the closest analogue with the most of the old veterans who weren't charged with war crimes. They obviously use the imperial shipyards for their ships etc etc But in any case it's a moot point because Disney is soulless.they couldn't even make those cutaway technical books right, instead of gouache painting, beautifully rendered interiors of ships its all cgi nonsense
>>1346301>read all 3 books>still have no fucking idea wtf are most of the factions in TWThe TL;DR of it all is that the Thrawn trilogy in the early 90s established the bedrock of all post-ROTJ Star Wars expanded universe lore. It set out the basic premise, that the Rebellion defeated the Empire, scattering its forces to the Outer Rim, and took the Galactic capital establishing a shaky New Republic. Under Timothy Zahn a basic, tenuous idea was established, but the power levels were not properly established; a few hundred cruisers are depicted as single handedly turning the tide of a galactic war, for example. All the same, it was a novel concept. Despite being outgunned the remnants of the Empire posed a suitable villainous threat.Over the course of the 1990s various other writers built on the foundation that Zahn had created. The gaps in the story in the five years prior to Thrawn taking control of the Empire were filled in, with the gigantic Empire's collapse being explained through the creation of warring, bickering figures like Isard and Warlord Zsinj in the X-Wing books, and the Darksaber bullshit established a bunch of other warlords. Thrawn's seemingly unified empire was retconned as a 'confederation' of various warlords uniting under the last remaining Grand Admiral. Although some of the stories from the late 90s were shit, comprising mainly of Moff-of-the-Week and Karen Traviss bullshit, plotholes were filled in and the 'factions' expanded upon in resources like the Essential Guide to Warfare. Eventually by the early 2010s an elaborate military history of the entire period post-Endor was created, filling in the gaps between RoTJ and the final Hand of Thrawn duology which ended the Galactic Civil War entirely, depicting Pellaeon presiding over a devastated, tiny Imperial Remnant. A coherent world had been built up from what was originally a near-nonsensical series of books, comics and vidya. It had its flaws, but there was much to love in the old EU.
I've went out of my way to do this mini-quest and this ship is really nice, these big key pieces work really well with Hapes fleets.>>1347070I think a possible solution would be a 4X with a battle mode you load into, kind of like Endless Space, except you actually control your units RTS-style. The battle system should imo be closer to Battlefleet Gothic, i.e. ships take hull damage directly and can take additional critical hits that damage or destroy modules like engines and gun batteries, so you don't have to shoot every single hardpoint off a ship to actually kill it.
>>1342753I've been doing a Black Sun playthrough in AotR recently, and the Hutts are pretty underwhelming compared to the other three branches of the Black Sun.That said, you can get stuff like Gamorrean melee troops and trained Rancors if you build a Hutt Palace on the ground. They should carve through masses of Rebel infantry pretty well.
>>1347742Kashyyyk is an absolute meat grinder in that mod. You're lucky you won against those defenders without losing more.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNS2uRAj7QE&ab_channel=CoreyLosesFirst preview of game play for Revan's Revenge mod as the Mandalorian faction from the Thrawn's Revenge team.
>>1358932Ships look really fragile compared to Thrawn's Revenge.Balance also looks pretty off (Mando starting forces look pathetic), but that's to be expected from a mod that hasn't begun real balance testing.
>>1358932Those mando ships look fucking awful. Just grey blobs popping round the screen. I like the Republic using red and white but for the love of god add some detail to the mandos. Also the ground battle looks like shit
>>1359793You can more or less tell the difference between ships designed in the games/comics and the ships designed by the modders. The Republic fleet looks great because it's entirely taken from the games, for example, while the Sith fleet has a mix of great ships (again, from the games) and rather ugly-looking ones (presumably mod originals).
>>1359866Those Sith ships all seem to be part of Legends cannon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2Ivbmdja-A&ab_channel=CoreyLosesFrom what I can tell the smaller ship warships used in this video are ancient designs from the Great Hyperspace war and before. Many of those ships were from an age when energy shields were rare or nonexistant and warships had to rely on armor.
>>1359793>>1359866They all are comic ships from various KotOR/Tales of the Jedi era designs, the only actually original design in lieu of nothing else being available iirc is the Mandalorian artillery unit which is bland enough to not stand out much. The Mando stuff just looks meh design wise in general regardless of interpretation, the Sith stuff shown in previews looks the most interesting out of Revan's Revenge content by far.
>>1360292Ironically enough, the best looking Mandalorian ship was stolen from a species that the the Mandalorians conquered.
>>1351189>I've went out of my way to do this mini-quest and this ship is really nice, these big key pieces work really well with Hapes fleets. There is a Thrawn's Revenge submod here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2818259533No Cruiser Left Behind for Thrawn's Revenge adds an influence unit at N'Zoth if you get get it to 9 loyalty. You can build the Aramadia class SSD.
How the hell do people play awakening of the rebellion? There's three separate tech levels for each class of ship, and then the same for each class of land unit. They are all extremely overpriced to just slow the game to a crawl with you mostly playing with mediocre units the entire game.Everything else is nice enough but other mods do it way better. What is the hype here? Just for people that enjoy waiting for hours for the game to finally start?
>>1359866>while the Sith fleet has a mix of great ships (again, from the games) and rather ugly-looking ones (presumably mod originals).Holy fuck, how ass can a man's taste get? The games had terrible designs, the comic ships were leagues better.
>>1368008GCW era isn't supposed to be a massive full scale conflict. There's a lot of raiding and hit & run shit in AotR. Rebels are a loose collection of left wing terrorists and the Empire is a corrupt tard BBEG faction where if you ask superiors for resources or help you'll just get killed, your forces reflect this, meaning that units that would be mindless filler ships/troops in other mods will stand out far more in your mind.
>>1302269>No competitive sceneLolLmao
>>1368059Empire at War MP campaigns are really fun, after you get over the initial hurdle of autoresolves against AI.
>>1368042That's not at all what I played as I outnumbered the Empire in every battle I intiated with them and they didn't do shit. It's been ages and I've not seen anything stronger than a victory isd and Vader's ship. This seems like a mod for roleplaying instead of having fun.
>>1368066don't play on recruit then. every time i have played they usually storm one sector with ISDs out the ass while i scatter elite shit to raid whatever targets im after for the given run
>>1348218I mean, it tried to have a setting. That already puts it above the sequel trilogy. Which has equally nonsensical power levels with none of the excuses or effort.
>>1368071I played on hard mode, which is captain normally. I might try admiral but I really just do not enjoy how the research works at all.
>>1368064LolGame is deadSP babies can cope but they know I'm right
>>1368059There was but the Forces of Corruption balance fucked up the game and still does to this day unfortunately. Most people just used base game but that got old after a while.
>>1368094Didn't the Empire get super buffed with it? I remember the Executor being really powerful. Not to mention how busted the Zann Consortium could be.Only side I thought was truly weak post-FOC was the Rebels.
>>1370337The Empire did get some buffs and the rebels were left behind, however nothing really came close to how stupidly OP the consortium was. Also other general gameplay problems like corvettes shredding fighters at a ridiculous level and most units dying way too fast to be useful hampered the competitive scene. There was a point where the top bracket was nothing but Consortium players against other ones, it was that bad.
At last, we shall have peace.
What's the best mod for just having a big ol' Empire vs Rebels fight?
This game sucks, only nostalgia goggles make it look good. Once I wiped the rebel fleet very early on in a galactic campaign by using those gravwell generator ships. They never rebuilt their fleet, just let me steamroll all their planets with no resistance in space. Just play starsector or some space 4x game if you want a space 4x game. Don't dig up this genre trash.
>>1302269Heard rumors that Petroglyph is doing a new Empire at War, but those are just rumors so don't take them seriously.
>>1376402We hear those all the time after Disney bought SW.
>>1375396play a mod
>>1376451In all honesty I'd rather EaW2 would never become a thing. After how Disney ruined SW and the probability it will definitively follow Kennedy's fanfics my skepticism skyrocketed. Even if Disney and Lucasfilm did say that they could allow more old EU content to be made.
>>1376533I'm fine if the plot of EaW2 sucks donkey balls as long as the gameplay itself and mechanics are updated and it is easy to mod. I have zero confidence in Disney from a storytelling perspective but I have strong faith in the modding community. Most of the good modders will excise the Disney filth like a tumor.
>>1377241But there is no EaW2...yet. Forces of Corruption is not EaW2.
>>1377241>>1376533The issue with this too is most EaW modders don't really want an EaW 2 if such a thing could even happen. The EaWX/TR team for example has invested a lot into working on EaWs jank ass engine and making appropriate art and models for it, and if they have to learn a whole new game that would just split the community up it's more likely they'd drop it outright. It's a monkey's paw anons, don't fall for it.
>>1378048Corey can suck a dick, his job is litterally to stream his own mods, he will never shut down that cash cow to go back to work at Micky D after having shit-talked them as much as he does on stream. If Petroglyph improved that Alamo engine and it was largely compatible with EAW1, EAWX would come crawling.
>>1368008It has a super steep learning curve, it's for people who want EAW but with actually good ground combat and deeper 4X mechanics, and AI that isn't retarded and easy to exploit. The amount of units in the game is ridiculous, but works well in the long campaigns, since lots of technologies are tied to constructing very specific buildings or controlling specific planets. I'd suggest playing on Easy to try and ease yourself into all the nuances of the campaign, and then try later on Medium or Hard when you get a better idea of how to play.>>1368080Research is there so you don't just get to tech up to max level super quickly. Personally I like how long it takes to research since it means a lot of the early game is spent using units you don't get to see too often, like AT-PT's and leftover Clone Wars junk. Also like that other guy said, you have to sort of play with a raider mindset, even when you play as Empire (at least in the early game).
