I'm playing it right now.

I've only done the first few levels but it's pretty fun so far. The graphics outside of combat look like generic RPG Maker shit and the writing is kind of bad so far. The actual gameplay is pretty good though. It's not very original, mostly just a mix of elements taken straight from Fire Emblem and Ogre Battle, but it's all meshed togetherin a way that makes sense and gives a decent amount of customization.

My only real gameplay gripe is that a lot of actions feel like they require too many clicks. Like if I want to edit a squad, I just want to click on the squad, then click on the unit I want to move. Instead I have to click on Squad Operations, then select the squad, then click on Move Units, then click on the unit I want to move. It sounds like a nitpick but it gets on my nerves. Just letting me select shit directly and having a right-click context menu for more complex actions would've been way better than having to click through three different menus for every action.

Also maybe I'm blind and missing something, but as far as I can tell the game only tells you about the optional objectives of a mission AFTER you finish the mission, which is completely retarded. How am I supposed to figure out you get bonus rewards for not using a certain unit, if the game only tells me about it after the fact?

Actually, I take this back. You can see the optional objectives with the Mission Info option in the battle menu. I'd still appreciate it if they'd just show you this shit at the start of the mission though, rather than make you go into yet another menu to figure it out.

No, if any of your generics are dead at the end of the chapter they're gone, but you have the chance to resurrect them with a Temple or MC before the chapter is over to save them. Named characters just get to die for free without consequence.

I'm not saying it can't be won, because if it was unwinnable that achievement would not exist. It's just, one item that won't save Diana from the other five cannons in an assault wave won't count for much.

The art is a huge problem for me as well. Despite the ESL tier actual script, I think the plot and writing are actually pretty serviceable, even when it pulls dumb shit like Jules being the Sayuunari king this entire time, motherfucker doesn't even have a unique sprite. At least get us headswaps for the unique characters. The UI is serviceable if you've played a billion awful RPGM games, but to anyone who hasn't it would be a pain.

One thing I do appreciate is that I can use mouse4 and mouse5 to swap between units who haven't acted yet. Whoever it was on the dev team who implemented that, I want to buy him a drink.

If it's any consolation, the fact that you can switch back and forth between promotions for free due the way the materials system works, just having enough maxed archers means you can kill Satan with a copious application of modern firepower.

The fact that each individual unit is a squad means you can shore up a unit's weaknesses with the formation or unit mix, or go all in on one type. It's mostly soft counters, although some counters are softer than others and in many cases an outcome can depend on who's on defense.

There are also movement and terrain based mechanics, like cavalry charges or light infantry ambushes or archers on a wall. In general you don't want to let a unit attack you from a position of strength or you're going to lose squadmembers for little gain.

Some unit types absolutely do their best in certain circumstances.
Units that can Ambush do best attacking first from rough terrain against enemies they can finish off.
Backstabbers do best striking first against enemies with valuable rear lines so they can (nothing personnel) the enemy.
Cavalry wants to move long distances to get charge bonuses, but also shouldn't forget hit and run as a way to get away from enemies they don't want to take an enemy phase against.
Cannons want to be attacking because they don't attack on defense.
A unit full of firearms can absolutely fuck up almost anything in the game, but if it doesn't go first it's not going to weather the storm.

Certain OP unit leaders absolutely can take a beating and keep on eating, especially the really tall one in her default unit spread: she'll fuck people up if she attacks first but very few enemies will threaten her on enemy phase unless you overextended or they're very powerful.

Why is everyone ok with zelos joining? He committed genocide and eventually wisened up that zanatus was manipulating him bit its never explained when and how, he just teleports in and says "OK nephilims it's go time!"

Also what happened to Mc and zelos in the good ending, they seal zanatus power and decide to remain in the divine realm forever? Why? So they can't be reborn and start the cycle anew? I am on mission 21. I think I'm two levels off from finishing the tech tree (it seems you gain around 10 tech scrolls per level), maybe three.
I don't know how many missions are in the game, but if you're capturing (surrendering) enemies and doing optional objectives, you probably will fill out the tech tree unless the game ends really soon.

i never found artillery good because it doesn't fire on defense and later on you have massive armies attacking your units every turn as you only attack once. while one shotting from 3 tiles seems nice a cavalry stack can just move the tiles for attack anyway and with good build it already destroys every stack in combat or almost all of it in the first place. i could barely make archer stack work either desu

Thankfully, you can have more than one stack, use teleport/bless shenanigans, etc to mitigate the odds of the cannon crew taking a defensive engagement.

Archers are based on any map with fortifications though, since Warbows can pepper even an enemy healer formation with so many arrows that they won't just heal straight up.

I strongly recommend you rethink how piracy of digital assets works, over half of them will never buy your game. The percentage that will only did so because they eventually came around on their own terms to giving you money to support you, this is an entirely different transaction from pirating the game.

guns are great, especially once you get that tech that allows them to fire twice. The strongest squad I have is a mix of gunners and centurions, so basically pike and shot. The gunners move first and wipe out the front row, then the centurions hit both the second and third rows at the same time. The only enemies that ever last more than 1 attack are ones that have those big shield guys up front, and even with their bonus defence against guns they still die in round 2.

But the fundamental win button in this game is alpha damage / first strike.

There's an inflection point, probably when you get that mage cast on turn 1 tech on the left tree, where your alpha damage can basically remove any threat by killing enough of them, regardless if the remainder are disarmed/chilled/dazed or not.

Alternatively, there's an inflection point where your units get tanky enough to sustain anything the enemies throw at them, even to the point of spamming Force Surrender against undamaged high-morale enemies (which is what these mega capture screenshots come from)

The late game paradigm seems to be lots of enemy squads, but those squads individually being smaller than the players' squads. I'm guessing the new post-Warlord difficulty will buff these squads stats and such even further, but unless the squads themselves increase to the same size of a player spamming medals or tactically giving out captures to frontline units to farm leadership, then this one-sided relationship will remain.

is there a point in the game when beatrix leaves your party? all my other squads are starting to get really underleveled, ever since i got her i put the attack first when defending/leader gets 2 turns/pasive heals trinkets with a sentinel in front of her and she quite literally solos everything in all the missions to the point that i only deploy other squads to pick up chests and resources.
