What monsters have you been collecting/raising?
With the new DQM on the horizon are going to play the others to catch-up?
>>

Playing a bit of Cassette Beasts, as well as the DQM demo. I don’t have much to say about the former other than its elemental system is fun and unlike most other games, but it also risks elongating the combat a bit.

With how much freedom they give you to explore and circle back to full heal in DQM, I guess it makes sense that default tactic command is spell-usage. Hoping there’s dedicated dungeons that force you to strategize a bit more, though.

Currently been spending my time on-and-off gathering all the G and F Ranks the the DQM3 demo will let me obtain, both to get the library sorted out and to figure out any worthwhile combos so I can kickstart myself back to having a solid team once the full game resets all the monsters to their default attributes.

I recently played through DWM2's story for the GBC and had a lot of fun. One thing I forgot is how you gain access to monsters I thought were super strong in the Sky and Limbo worlds, like GreatDrak and BossTroll. I had bred for those thinking they were rare but nope. My favorite is GigaDraco because he has a butt belly and absurd HP growth. I remember grinding out a team of 3 GigaDracos with HealUsAll and GigaSlash as a kid.

Question for anons who played DWM2: did you ever get lucky enough for a Magical Key world that had boss monsters? I remember getting one that was Dream something and it had wild Orgodemir and Mirudraas and shit. VERY hard to get through. What are the differences between the GBC and 3DS version? I'd like to emulate it someday but not if it's really weird. Does the 3DS one have the monster size limit? I really would hate to not have 3 GigaDracos because they're too big, or 3 GreatDraks (my 2nd favorite).
>the new DQM on the horizon
I'm not interested because I don't have a Switch. If it's on PC, I'll pirate it because fuck Square Enix in 2023. Don't know how true it is but apparently the new game will have DLC and that's disgusting. IX sucked because of that and is unplayable without piracy, X is going to disappear if servers are pulled, and XI had minor DLC that was just some random items. It's still wrong and I will never support a company that engages in such a financial practice.

Also, another question for /mon/ anons: which Digimon game should I start with? There are so many. Is the first Worlds game for PSX (I think) good? I like DWM and Pokemon a lot, so I doubt I'll hate digimon.
>>
>>3209483
DQM 2 3D has a size limit. It's basically a Joker game that uses the shell of a DQM 2 remake.
The only good digimon game is World 1, a Tamagotchi game with a Pikmin-like structure. It's not for everyone. You may like Cyber Slueth but be warned it has a lot of talking and no way to skip dialogue.
>>
>>3209533
How much grinding is there in Digimon games? I really like that in monster raising games. Can you take a digimon and just powerlevel hard? How replayable are they, like with Magic Key worlds or Pokemon post game exploration?
>DQM 2 3D has a size limit
Aw man, that's too bad. I'll play it anyways because I'll still have a little fun but not having a bunch of big dudes is sad. Another favorite party of mine is KingSlime, SpotKing, and MetalKing, the full royalty. Do big slimes like that take up size slots?
>>
Looking for any good Mecha mongers. I've already played through the handheld Medarot games so thats been done.
>>
>>3209557
I never finished a Digmon Story so I don't know the grinding rate or how replayable they are. World 1 has both a lot of and little grinding because you can over-train a digimon so you need to do more than make them work out but getting techs is a bitch and there's the infamous lifespan mechanic so you're digimon will eventually die and you'll need to raise its reincarnation.
But it is super replayable just in the way where you can do things differently and better way rather than the things are different on another playthrough way.
>>
>>3209572
Metal Walker is one but I don't know if its good
I remember hearing Robopon 2 is good
The PlayStation 1 Medarot has a translation if you're up for another one
One of the Zoids games has to be a collector.
>>
>>3209602
I guess you could count the Zoids Saga games as mongers

>which Digimon game should I start with?
For the safest, easiest game to play? Cyber Sleuth/Hacker's Memory. They're pretty standard JRPGs and don't really do anything too wrong besides things like very repetitive areas and overly long dialogue with some pretty shitty translation.
As for other Digimon games?
If you want a raising game, World 1, Re:Digitized, and Next 0rder all have their strengths and weaknesses. World 1 is probably the best so long as you have guide.
Digimon DS and Dawn/Dusk can be alright, but are possibly the grindiest out of any Digimon game. I actually think DS, which came before Dawn/Dusk, is actually better because it requires far less grinding and the maps aren't all the same maze with different skins attached.
After that Digimon games become moreso one-offs in genre and get more and more flawed.

>What monsters have you been collecting/raising?
Been playing through Yo-Kai Watch 3. Definitely been enjoying it, there's still just so much charm and little details that not only gives it a feel of having a high budget, but shows some passion in it too. Loved Blasters so glad Blasters T feels pretty fleshed out, even if playing with others is probably impossible.
But man, I can really see why the Japanese didn't like Hailey. Beyond just being annoying, I think the whole 'split story' thing doesn't really do the game any favors. Granted I'm still playing through the main story, so don't know what could change, but I find having two separate inventories and two separate teams to manage to just be kinda annoying.
>oh you like the team you're using? Too bad your done with this character for now play the other one
I'm hoping post game just lets me play as one without needing to use the other for some content, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't know if they are good but Danball Senki and Biomotor Unitron probably count.

There's also MeiQ Labyrinth of Death. It's not good but it's more or less good to cope for the lack of Medabots games.

Yeah I'll take anything on that front since they refuse to localize anything, and currently in a battle with an NFT trademark squatter.

Most monsters are small. You can have all the slimes / king slimes / gem slimes in one party as they are only small size. Only a few boss monsters are Medium or large and that's really after credits that it becomes available.

I caught most of the overworld monsters and bred quite a few F class. After 7 hours I decided to call it quits so I can enjoy release.
I have been progressing into the endgame of joker 2 which I never completely finished. Currently at final boss labyrinth then endgame.

DWM is my favorite game of all time. Sadly, I now understand that it's my turn to be bent over by square enix. The DLC is borderline mandatory.
1. $10 - Mole Hole DLC - You can now freely catch any monster you've already caught. You can also catch monsters only available by synthesis. This is mandatory and a gigantic time save.
2. $10 - Coach Joe's Gym - Create a team around restrictions (1 type mon) and enter random dungeons. Pick up items as you go and try to kill the boss for rewards.
*This almost feels like a throwback to DWM. If it has a remix of the original flute track and lovewater pickups I will love it forever*
3. $6 - Treasure Trunks - Timed rewards. Every hour or so you unlock a new reward. This is literally paying to get yourself more addicted to the game psychologically. Fun. Rewards look worth it for long playthroughs.

The music had really good remade tracks. Sadly the general theme is like big happy marching band to the tune of dragon quest. I'm kinda over it.

Greedy fucks.
The game already looks like it shouldnt be more than $40

The DLC honestly just might be the breaking point for me. I stopped playing to demo right after the G-rank tournament because I'm really debating with myself whether or not I'm actually going to buy it or just pirate it.
I want DQM to succeed, but holy fuck Jewnix is practically doing everything in it's power to make it not, from poor promotion to this atrocious DLC that brings the game up to fucking $85
Especially doesn't help that right after playing Joker 3 Pro for the first time, DQM3 feels pretty barebones.
>>
>>3209925
It wouldn't surprise me if the ability to manipulate the state of the overworld (seasons and weather this time around) is thrown as far into the game's progression as possible (if not postgame outright) to incentivize buying the Mole Hole to skip the hassle of idling around, honestly.

I honestly think I'm only getting the coach one as that sounds like a fun addon and worthy DLC. And maybe the treasure one if I have some spare gift card money and gold e-shop points. I can handle the grind so unless Squeenix hosts some tournaments and gives me some motivation to cut it down I won't need it.

Everything from that series is god tier. I also enjoy medarot ost and pokemon gen 2/3

Seems like most mon games favor having a single team or even just one monster that's absurdly powerful while a full collection is just a side goal. Are there any that actually make having multiple teams viable or reward 'dex' completion?
Closest I've seen is Siralim 3, but even that's a stretch.
>>
>>3210948
>Are there any that actually make having multiple teams viable or reward 'dex' completion?
My game will tie dex completition into the progression systems, and also reward the player for discovering new species.
>>
>>3210967
How?
>>
>>3210967
Not everyone wants to catch them all though.
>>
>>3211065
>>3211033
No need to catch them all, it will be like the PLA system but much less bloated. Battling monsters unlocks data from them. Completition rate opens up special locations with more monsters and special item rewards, etc.
>>
>>3211078
Fine. Post monster. Don't worry, I won't give feedback.

Yo-kai Watch has a neat mechanic where if you get select groups of yo-kai you get an item or rare yo-kai. And it doesn't tell you what most of them are so you either have to figure it out or just get everything and hope for the best. Is that close enough?
>>
Any Monstergirl games you'd recommend other than Monster Girl Quest Paradox?
I'd basically just want something in the same vein to tide me over until part 3
not sure how well this fits here, but I'd consider something like wide variety of party members (that are monsters) the core appeal of the subgenre

The Montner giving your team random tension in Joker 3 P kind of sucks.
I doubt this game can surpass Coby and Tara but it seems ok anyways.
