The scene in the trailer is meant to be this scene. This is later revealed to be a fake flashback as part of Cloud's Soldier LARP, where he pretends him and Sephiroth were best friends and Sephiroth was the ultimate badass. So I think that shot is meant to be some sort of "Look at Sephiroth he's so cool" but in a deliberately cheesy way. But if its all from Cloud's perspective its weird because it more comes off like Cloud has a crush on him.
