How do you feel about the use of console commands? If I'm going to grind a skill for 100 hours why not just use it then? Why smithing 10000 iron daggers in Skyrim or doing x action over and over just to level up feels "truer" than that?
I don't feel anymore.

Something Something delayed gratification.Even outside an rpg context, you could turn on God mode in every game and play that way. But when you begin doing stuff like infinitely abusing cheats, why bother playing at all? Just go outside, bro. You're clearly not having fun.
I'm not against it. I remember cheesing my way to stealth in oblivion by autowalking in a corner for a few hours

>>3061536Modifying my own stats is pretty much the one thing I won't do with the console. Not out of any sense of journey or anything, but I feel like it makes my character feel more unique if I end up with random, naturally-gained stats. I'll absolutely turn on godmode, spawn items, teleport, trigger quest events, teleport NPCs, etc but I won't change my stats.
>>3061536They're very valuable because they allow PC users, too, to become consolefags
It's a good tool to have for fucking around and debugging but using it exclusively to give yourself shit will just make you not want to play the game and get it yourself.
>>3061536A necessity in bethesda games due to all the bugs. I refuse to play Fallout 4's hardcore mode because it disables what is essentially a mandatory feature for their shit engine.
>>3061536spannungsbogen
No one should have to manually craft 1k iron daggers. if the skyrim xp mod didn't exist, I would use them for sure.
>>3062658just use the cucksole to set all your stats to 100why even bother playing the gamejust tgm your way to victoryyou fucking failure
>>3061536Extremely useful if you need to test something, or get out of a bug like completed quest not being marked or getting stuck in terrain glitch. Mandatory if you are modding. I like to use them in sandbox games when I want to set up a scenario or guide what npcs do in a certain direction. Like in Crusader Kings when I want for npc X to be stronger or have descendant because reasons. Can be useful if game wastes your time with grind or repetitive running.
>>3061536Grind is not and never has been a balancing mechanic. If you can max out crafting by crafting 10000 daggers the devs have fucked up. Not to mention it also discourages playing the game and instead encourages exploiting the shit out of it.If anything there should be 100 tasks for each skill that range from basic to near-impossible so that one's stat is a measure of both in-game potency and the player's own knowledge and skill.
>>3061536 if it takes like 100 hours to bump digital numbers up just to have fun with a game, then it's okay imo
>>3062850Leveling up based solely on quests and not by doing it? Would that be interesting?
>>3062916>Hit an enemy from 50 meters>Hit an enemy from 100 meters>Headshot an enemy from 50 meters>Hit an enemy five times in a rowThings like that.
>>3062951Can you make 100 of those for a dozen skills each without making it really fucking tedious? Using the skill to upgrade the skill works fine.
>>3061536same as reloading a save, I do it if I feel like it but I know letting it become a habit can ruin my fun
>>3062916I really like Underrail's oddity xp system. Instead of getting xp from using skills or killing enemies, you get xp by finding "oddity" items. You can only gain xp from each item a limited number of times and you get them from 1. fixed area spawns, 2. random area spawns and 3. enemy drops. It rewards you for exploring the map and you can get a bit of extra xp by doing a more comprehensive search, but there's a hard limit to the amount of xp you can get.
>>3061536For Skyrim, I do use console commands for skills, but only to do a thing where I legendary status every skill multiple times. This is so I can start the game with every skill at 0 after the legendary reset. I also calculate the exact amount of times I have to do it so that once I get everything to 100 I will have received the perfect amount of perk points to unlock every perk.

>>3063855I would spell everything out with capital letters in all the appropriate places. If you're going to cheat, at least show the game some respect and do it right.
I only use console commands to fix bugs. If you just activate god mode, why even bother playing?
>>3063917For me the best thing about 3d games is walking around and exploring the world that other people made. I don't need a challenge to enjoy myself.
>>3061536You should finish the quests of the game as it was intented (no cheat) at least once, before starting to mess around with console, to actually experince the game. But after it, it's fine. It's ok to skip non-fun parts, since it's not competitive.

>>3062850Why do you need to max out though? It's your choice to get a stat that high. There's no need to grind otherwise.

It's an essential tool that distinguishes PC games from console trash. Players should be trusted to have the ability to tweak things as they see fit, and sometimes it's necessary to fix broken things, or to impose additional challenges on one's self (example, buying shit you'd normally be expected get for free, as a player, but your character wouldn't, like a paladin refusing to steal. Or, playing DOS2 I absolutely loathed the RNG magic items, so every level-up I would buy a plain white item to fill each slot until finding uniques)However, you must have willpower and discipline to not trivialize the game and ruin the fun for yourself, hurr I'm level 1 with god mode and endgame gear and ten million gold now. That's the responsibility that comes with the power. At the end of the day, in a single player game, it's about doing what you think is fun. Everyone has different standards for what's reasonable and fair, and what's cheating, and you have to keep yourself honest.
PC games come out broken 99% of the time going all the way back so the console commands are mandatory.I really have no idea why PC gamers let the absolute broken nature of their games slide. Lazy ass developers.
>>3061536If its something like combat or stealth then no. But TES item crafting is a good example of something I do console comman at some point becuase its just mindless grinding
>>3061536>How do you feel about the use of console commands?Depends on the game.I don't like doing it in general because I enjoy the feeling of my character growing through the story, plus getting the abilities one by one lets you experiment more with them.I will do it when a playthrough is not enough to max out a character. I'm not mindlessly grinding when I'm out of content to clear just to see how a max level character feels. I also do it when the game locks you out of content depending on build. Most games aren't worth replaying with different builds, so I just cheat to maximize the breadth of my character's skills, which tends to have very littòe effect power wise (shame on the devs, lmao).I will also do it when it's a matter of sheer repetition. Like I'm never going to need to craft 100 levels of gear over a Skyrim playthrough, not even close. So why would I bother crafting daggers? I won't. That's a game design issue. Also if there's chance based farming I'm 100% going to cheat. I'm not repeating the same content 20 times in a row no matter how much I like a game.
>>3061536>new vegas>new game>make character>open console>ID code for Lucky Shades>close console>continue playing
>>3061536I use them, but only when I can justify itLiterally like hours ago, I was in a building with a locked door but it was just some regular old wooden door. >>3061536>the console isn't graphically integrated with the pipboy interfacecan bethesda do anything right, holy fucking fail
>>3061536My feeling on cheating in video games is this:If it's singleplayer, or multiplayer but everyone has agreed to it? Then go for it! Who cares?I don't care if you play your game by crushing it into a powder and snorting it. It doesn't change my damn gaming experience.
>>3061536>How do you feel about the use of console commands? If I'm going to grind a skill for 100 hours why not just use it then? Why smithing 10000 iron daggers in Skyrim or doing x action over and over just to level up feels "truer" than that? The next question you ask is why you're even playing the game at all.
>>3065939what does the reddit frog have to do with anything?
>>3061536The problem is that 90% of shit you can attain in console commands are things that aren't very difficult to get by just playing and experiencing the game for what it is. If you need 18 gorrilion caps there's a multitude of ways to rack that up from legitimate methods or even exploits without ever needing to even open the console command tab. if you're experimenting around with cut content or just fucking around for fun then sure it's fine but there's no instance where you would ever *need* to use console commands to achieve something in a genuine playthrough; people who say otherwise are just forming copium for cheating and not being good enough at a game to attain anything on their own.
>>3061550This implies that gen x has any soul to begin with.
Skyrim's dagger smithing problem could easily be fixed by adjusting the xp rewards. Just make higher tier equipment more rewarding and make lower tier stuff give diminishing returns at higher levels. A master smith that can make a dagger with as little thought or effort as you'd put into driving on an open road shouldn't be able to "level up" from such a mundane activity.
>>3063917If you ever reload a save, why even bother playing?

>>3066114reloading saves is as "artificial" as console commands. Games have an element where you have to manage your own fun, if you have a little self-consciousness about whether what you're doing is hurting your enjoyment of the game that's all you need. Same with stuff like grinding for powerups or changing difficulty settings.
>>3061536I use console commands a lot on replays, but I think you should try the game at least once as vanilla as possible.
console commands are valid if they're for stuff that is tedious but trivial/uninteresting. collecting sunset sasparilla caps is fun and encourages a more discerning eye around the world, finding unique weapons as a reward for exploring is an integral part of the gameplay, experiencing the world at the difficulty scale it was meant to be experienced at is important for player risk and decision making. i wouldn't use the console to manipulate things that are super critical to the intended experience.but stuff like i'm off 100 caps from buying a weapon from a vendor and i have nothing i feel comfortable selling to meet that threshold? i add 100 caps to my total via console. the only thing this really hurts for game design is the use of the barter skill i suppose. it's not a significant impairment to the game design.
>>3061536In New Vegas you don't really need to grind much at all. Just do quests for EXP, and for caps you can just loot shit, unless you hate that, but to me Fallout games activate hoarder and looter instincts.
>>3061536People that autistically do one specific (and meta) thing to max out a skill kind of miss the point of the skill being there in the first place. The skills' system's purpose is for a sense of progression as you do quests and organically transverse the game. You should only autistically grind if you're playing something with PvP. Seems like autistic grinders believe they're "beating the game" when they do that, but all they're doing grinding out a much better experience if they just played the game as intended.
