I just finished DLC 1 and I have some question.

What the fuck was up with the Carpenter/Knight of the Deep Sea? He built Lutwidge Town but it's shitty, then he built the Mushroom Village but everyone got overtaken by mushrooms except for that one woman in that one house, then he fucked off into the ocean and befriended Wolris, then decided that wasn't deep enough so he went down to the very bottom of the ocean and befriended Kuti, then when he sees Grimm decides "fuck this twink" and attacks him. Wolris and Kuti, the only two people that seem to like him, both get along just fine with Grimm, so why can't he? Also, with how ridiculously powerful he is, where the fuck was he for the fight against the Jabberwock or Crawling One? There's no way he's a soulless fairy tale, he's definitely a real person also trapped in this world.

The Carpenter presumably built thing for a purpose, if you read a bloodstain at the bridge of Lutwidge Town, it kinda implies that he build it as a sort of Tower of Babel. Futhermore, he decided to go undesea to help Wolris, not wanting her to be an actor in a shitty stage (low sen statue) but got PENETRATED by a tentacle and got reborn as Knight of the Deep Sea to serves as Kuti's jailer.

Let's draw something in Toro's style. From dicking about in krita I find the best brushes for emulating his style are Precision Ink and Dry Bristles Eroded for the colors. I find his rough lines are just the beginning method of doing line art of multiple strokes over and over. Since he doesn't really keep in the lines his style is easy enough to emulate.

There's two levels of the basic stat buff/debuff shit, doesn't matter if you use something like Omnicurse/Curse Blossoms to lower enemy Def/MDef, they'll share the same cap just like you would if you use Omnibless/King's Orders/Screws to raise your Attack. Coincidentally, it's most effective to use your items to affect these basic stats, since they don't consume one of your actions that turn.
There's not a lot debuff-wise that you can use to directly affect your damage output, Frail is your best bet since according to hints.txt it "Increase damage taken by 50%", but I think outside of Black Wave (very rare skill randomly found in the Chaos Dungeon) you're stuck using a DLC 3 ring (Corpse-Eater's Ring) if you really want to fish for it, and honestly it's not particularly necessary with enough optimization elsewhere. Otherwise you have Frostbite if you're a magic user (-20% MDef according to hints.txt) and/or want to spam Ice shit, but magic is generally worse than phys in this game. Likewise you have Oiled for Fire shit and it also gives -20% Spd I guess.
Offensively, you have a bit more freedom in battle. Madness is a 2.0x Atk/Mag multiplier and Phalanx is another 1.5x Atk multiplier, and these stack with each other and the basic stat buffs. You also have the rare Chaos Dungeon skill Awakening (2.0x Mag, +100% Crit and another action) but only if you're a mage, since it drops your Attack to 1 for the duration.
Pre-combat prep is something that usually ends up getting glossed over, but it's arguably the most important since it isn't something you can change in combat. The best covenants can give you another action, or 1.5x Atk/Mag multipliers that stack with the above multipliers. Your gear can give you additional individually stacking offensive multipliers or bonus actions as well, which can be invaluable for hitting the stat cap and shitting out more damage.

Unlocking the hidden route is not really that complicated
1. just make sure to see RRH at lutwidge, this is mandatory
2. talk to her at specific bonfires, can't really miss her, need to do this about 10 times
optional: check on her at pond of blood tears boss and terrible tragic hotel
3. find the 6 alice memories, or "balls of fire" as some people call them
4. get leaf's ring

Honestly by doing a 0 sen run you find basically everything, except that optional hotel cutscene which actually requires 100 sen when entering

All of the alices so far are fakes and sue is in jail in queensland. Additionally, 0 SEN is actually sanity, while 100 SEN is insanity since a bunch of NPCs just speak in jibberish and ending E alice mentions that you've fixed your mind. The ending you are looking for here is B, it and E in a distant second are the most important "normal" endings in the game. Feel free to look up the requirements in hints.txt if you're only interested in speeding through BS2 I guess. At some point though you should give Queensland a long and hard search if you haven't yet, ideally before going through with the route.

For me, it was Dark Souls 1, Black Souls series, and Lobotomy Corporation. Haven't played those yet, but I've seen people say the same of Pathologic, Fear & Hunger, Rain World and Signalis.
And while I personally think Outer Wilds, Umineko and Ever17 fail in their execution (to varying degrees), I can see why people would feel the way they do about them.

BG3 soon, Jagged Alliance 3 is developed under the original designer's watch, there's that Warhammer CRPG by Owlcat, Colony Ship looks promising and Underrail: Infusion is one of my most awaited games next to Silksong. While I'll admit that a good part of it is select color choice, which I have yet to do really well on, the main thing for EMMM tier scribbles is hatching. Lots of hatching, and having some bizzaro combo of very good line confidence and very poor line confidence. Objects should still be very clear in their shape and form, but their edges are rough hewn thanks to the scribbles. Comboing hatching and darker colors for shading is also pretty effective.

The main part I haven't been able to figure out well, are faces. Mainly his heroine faces. Mostly because I can't just rely on excessive hatching and scribbles, and the way he and I draw faces is rather divergent.

Florence's second phase and Unis's fight. Status effects in general are sorely underutilized as a concept for battle strategy in BS.

Then again, Break was only ever relevant a handful of times to begin with, shouldn't expect much else. And no, Gun Break doesn't count as part of the core Break mechanic I'm talking about here. Gun Break was used because it's a way to cheese out damage with watchspam, not to fish for a Break on fuckers. Speaking of underutilized mechanics, Guarding ends up being ignored in favor of damage damn near 100% of the time. Dodge is also left in the dust, but it's somewhat more understandable since dodgestacking could break the game design even more than it already is.

Honestly not needed in DLC 3, or even throughout the game in general. The most useful stuff you can get is an extra turn from starting a fight with Andor +5, another from swapping to the Anchor and using Indignation, and a beefy (though unnecessary) defensive boost from the Knight King's Sword. Items and gear will cover virtually everything you really need in combat, along with your basic skills.

Lorde's jail fight is only one that really forces the player to approach the fight differently from the other fights in DLC 3 or even BS2 in general, and even that's only because the game gives him the first move and forces the player to work around him. After the initial barrage he's disappointingly easy to actually fight.

I can understand the stigma, but it's nonetheless impressive what the creator managed to do within the constraints of the engine. Very few JRPGs allow you this kind of freedom of combat, with lvl 1 runs being possible at all. It's clear a lot of effort went into making the combat system, with a fuckton of different weapons, spells, equipment, enemy types. It strains the engine to its limit. I know RPGMaker games - and especially their combat - are associated with low effort work, but this is anything but

I'm reminded of how RHW had this miniboss that had a fuckload of health but you could poison it and put it to sleep to kill it without trouble and I found it to be the most interesting fight for long until late into bs2. JRPGs suck and provide the same level of mental engagement as grinding in an MMORPG, with only gimmick fights or self-imposed restrictions to make it interesting. The fact that everyone has to say "b-but you can do a sl1 run" is precisely why it's not inherently good. That's a restriction you placed yourself onto the game to make it challenging and engaging. If you were forced to do an sl1 run in the first place then yes it's a good game. It's like people playing nuzlocke in pokemon because the standard way to play is literally for children. It's good, flexible design that a game allows the player to impose a gradient difficulty on their own terms, but it doesn't automatically make the systems in place inherently thoughtful or exciting. Imagine playing a puzzle game where every puzzle had a button next to a locked door where if you can't figure it out you just had to push the button for like 5 minutes and the door would open.

Mechanical depth means little when the mechanics essentially amount to window dressing. A large part of the reason why people opt for SL1 runs is to actually feel the need to engage in those mechanics instead of just blasting through everything like they would on a normal run. Even then you can still blast through shit pretty hard on SL1 runs, you just need to pay more attention to how you set yourself up.

I did, by the time I started DLC 3. You're not some freshly fallen undead with brain damage from landing in the Crash Chamber head first, by now the player should have run through the base game, DLC 1 and DLC 2 and have some basic idea of how shit works.

how did YOU play the dlc? 'cause that's also how i've cleared it, literally just stacked bonus actions and attack+1 and either spammed basic attack, meteor shower or the thunder triple spell, then i added the dlc3 80% revive armor and the 2 spells that did like % damage and poison\laceration and stuff
the only fights i remember any different were like the corpse eaters that you needed to dispel first and maybe Lorde 'cause you needed to not get killed asap

What other fights COULDN'T be cleared by just extra turns and huge damage? Lindamea?
