>>2986113She's just another outer god, not sure if it's ever stated which one specificallyHer form being like that seems simply to be because, as stated by Mabel (iirc?), even just assuming an human shape is apparently an incredibly difficult task for the gods, even just suppressing their powers in order to mate (and this is where she fails completely)There's not much else about her, but thanks to her presence we have an example of an outer god utterly failing at properly masquerading as a human girl in order to procreate
>>2986113Sho = ShoggothDon't forget the green lines.>>2986120>even just assuming an human shapeI was going to say it's bullshit because Mabel is just an avatar, but I guess it's not so the case for the Heroines huh?

>>2985862I loved Dorothy in BS1, I wonder what she's up to in II? I'M SORRY
I just finished DLC 1 and I have some question. What the fuck was up with the Carpenter/Knight of the Deep Sea? He built Lutwidge Town but it's shitty, then he built the Mushroom Village but everyone got overtaken by mushrooms except for that one woman in that one house, then he fucked off into the ocean and befriended Wolris, then decided that wasn't deep enough so he went down to the very bottom of the ocean and befriended Kuti, then when he sees Grimm decides "fuck this twink" and attacks him. Wolris and Kuti, the only two people that seem to like him, both get along just fine with Grimm, so why can't he? Also, with how ridiculously powerful he is, where the fuck was he for the fight against the Jabberwock or Crawling One? There's no way he's a soulless fairy tale, he's definitely a real person also trapped in this world.
>>2986294Also why is Wolris a commie and why does she randomly say things in Cyrillic? I can't even read it!
>>2986294The Carpenter presumably built thing for a purpose, if you read a bloodstain at the bridge of Lutwidge Town, it kinda implies that he build it as a sort of Tower of Babel. Futhermore, he decided to go undesea to help Wolris, not wanting her to be an actor in a shitty stage (low sen statue) but got PENETRATED by a tentacle and got reborn as Knight of the Deep Sea to serves as Kuti's jailer.Because yes, Kuti is a prisoner, she just doesn't know it.>then he built the Mushroom Village but everyone got overtaken by mushrooms except for that one woman in that one houseThe Mushroom village is one big reference to RHW, the girl is implied to be one of the boss. You also forgot the thing in Low Sen, but I won't spoil the surprise for you.>>2986298Wolris is apparently just russian. Why? I have no idea.
>>2986294>What the fuck was up with the Carpenter/Knight of the Deep Sea?He is from Alice and is friend with the Walrus from the book he got "tasked" by TCO to build wonderland but he didn't built the mushroom village that place is from RHW but he built Prayer Master's house the same one from where Alice ate the cake.>he went down to the very bottom of the ocean and befriended Kutiapparently he got lobotomized by either Kuti or her sister(probably this bitch) so he is basically a slave to her princess>>2986298apparently the japanese word for Walrus was from Russia

First time BS2 player. How the fuck do I even begin to fight the God's odd fish? . I'm at level 817 and I think I've cleared everything else.
>>2986617You're meant to run past it. Though it is possible to defeat it, especially after you're done with DLC3. It goes down super fast, you just need to know how to weapon swap in order to get the most damage
>>2986617>God's odd fish?First off, levels are pretty much pointless when determining overall powerlevel in BS2. Secondly, the boss can be cheesed with evasion, %HP damage and a way to survive his lone sure hit move. If you're struggling to beat this boss, that doesn't bode well for your prospects in DLC 3.
>>2986621i ran past it the first time but can't the second. I'm using the machinegun with a crit build but I'll try upgrading some weapons for swapping>>2986623The big black shark in the ship graveyward. I'll try with the evasion and %damage. Is it just like the infinite food?

Let's draw something in Toro's style. From dicking about in krita I find the best brushes for emulating his style are Precision Ink and Dry Bristles Eroded for the colors. I find his rough lines are just the beginning method of doing line art of multiple strokes over and over. Since he doesn't really keep in the lines his style is easy enough to emulate.

>>2987525Yes, you need to find them all
>>2987525yes
>>2987363>stackingThere's two levels of the basic stat buff/debuff shit, doesn't matter if you use something like Omnicurse/Curse Blossoms to lower enemy Def/MDef, they'll share the same cap just like you would if you use Omnibless/King's Orders/Screws to raise your Attack. Coincidentally, it's most effective to use your items to affect these basic stats, since they don't consume one of your actions that turn. There's not a lot debuff-wise that you can use to directly affect your damage output, Frail is your best bet since according to hints.txt it "Increase damage taken by 50%", but I think outside of Black Wave (very rare skill randomly found in the Chaos Dungeon) you're stuck using a DLC 3 ring (Corpse-Eater's Ring) if you really want to fish for it, and honestly it's not particularly necessary with enough optimization elsewhere. Otherwise you have Frostbite if you're a magic user (-20% MDef according to hints.txt) and/or want to spam Ice shit, but magic is generally worse than phys in this game. Likewise you have Oiled for Fire shit and it also gives -20% Spd I guess.Offensively, you have a bit more freedom in battle. Madness is a 2.0x Atk/Mag multiplier and Phalanx is another 1.5x Atk multiplier, and these stack with each other and the basic stat buffs. You also have the rare Chaos Dungeon skill Awakening (2.0x Mag, +100% Crit and another action) but only if you're a mage, since it drops your Attack to 1 for the duration. Pre-combat prep is something that usually ends up getting glossed over, but it's arguably the most important since it isn't something you can change in combat. The best covenants can give you another action, or 1.5x Atk/Mag multipliers that stack with the above multipliers. Your gear can give you additional individually stacking offensive multipliers or bonus actions as well, which can be invaluable for hitting the stat cap and shitting out more damage.

>>2988147this is my second run, is it really that bad?
>>2988146Unlocking the hidden route is not really that complicated1. just make sure to see RRH at lutwidge, this is mandatory2. talk to her at specific bonfires, can't really miss her, need to do this about 10 timesoptional: check on her at pond of blood tears boss and terrible tragic hotel3. find the 6 alice memories, or "balls of fire" as some people call them4. get leaf's ringHonestly by doing a 0 sen run you find basically everything, except that optional hotel cutscene which actually requires 100 sen when entering
>>2988149Literally everything you need for what you're looking for is in hints.txt, there is no reason to look up an external guide for BS2 for endings. Also, if it's only your second run and you're heading straight for it, you're going to be missing on at least one other important ending that the game expects you to have the context of for the route, not to mention the possibility and more likely probability of you missing other lore critical scenes. Additionally, 0 SEN is actually sanity, while 100 SEN is insanity since a bunch of NPCs just speak in jibberish and ending E alice mentions that you've fixed your mind. I was not prepared for the difficulty spike in the Oyster's Ocean.
>>2988622You can't save someone who cannot be saved. It's funny how Leaf and TCO are a mirror to each others based on their own understand of humanity and love. They are both toxic but in different way. TCO can only see love as obsessive love, something that cannot be changed, in a stage, meanwhile, Leaf fully understand love, but is just a plain psycho about everything, including expressing her love.Hilariously, this make her seems like the lovecraft Nyarly.
>>2988641> Leaf fully understand love, but is just a plain psycho about everything, including expressing her love.Actually, I don't think that's entirely the case.I think Leaf does love you for real, but her idea of love was twisted by a mother who neglected her and a manipulative monster that groomed her into hate.
>>2988647I always got the impression that her mom, Baphy-chaaaaaaan, just didn't care about her, which could be a niggerman thing judging by Kuti, and that after being shown THINGS by Jabber, started to develop the Human sickness but in the wrong way. In the library, she wanted to show her creation to her mom but that it was "such a letdown", whatever that meant.Pure Love ultimately got in almost everyone's heart and won, but not for TCO, Leaf, Bang and JabberAt least that's what I got from it.
>>2988713Yeah the first part of your post is correct. I don't know about the last sentence. I think Leaf's heart, while still corrupted by Jabber, may be salvageable, if anything because she loves Grimm, she's just twisted about it to the point where she'd rather kill him than let him go with someone else.
>>2988731>I don't know about the last sentenceNone of them want you to go, seemingly the role they played got stuck to their faces until it became reality. Then you got Kuti, "Miranda', it's all oddly romantic.I don't even think that Leaf can understand a world without Grimm, and I'm not sure that Jabber really corrupted her, she just showed her fairy tales.
I'm trying to harvest all of the fairy tales in BSII. I'm yet to find the Hansel and Gretel, the Goose that Lays Golden Eggs and the Wizard of Oz. I suspect I might be able to get Hansel and Gretel from the Giant House if I fight it with Red Hood or something. At first I was thinking that Goose and Oz might be people I can meet out in the world, but Catherine, Elizabeth, Jeanne and Elma have disproven this so far. I know Pinocchio was added with DLC 1, are they hidden off in a DLC 2 or 3 area? If not, where should I be looking for them, and how sane should I be?
>>2988737If you're thinking it's like BS1, you don't actually need to fill out the library in this game, that's not the central plot/mystery anymoreDLC 2 is only the chaos dungeon, and DLC 3 is basically an entirely seperate experience. the wizard of oz is kinda a thing you stumble onto while you explore the asylum with 100 SEN, but for the other two, have you checked the dutchess mansion? Or what's on the left side of caroll river?
>>2988743 I know it's not needed for an ending, I just want to do it. I have to kill the chick, don't I? I should've expected to find Oz in the Asylum, I read the notes on Dorothy there. Thanks.

black souls left a big impact on me, ironically enough the other game that did that was dark souls. there's something about EMMM being inspired by the alice in wonderland books that makes him stand out as an interesting guy, i feel like he could go far if he keeps working on this series
>>2989468>Implying blackface is a problemAnon, you are not a true Alice enjoyer if you can't consciously and willingly fuck an eldritch horror for her
>>2989476I get what you mean, having finished them recently i'm currently in the "absolutely obsessed" phase, which is gonna last for a few weeks if i know myselfMakes me feel bad for not having played the games sooner, since there's no one to talk about the story nowAltho i did end up playing\reading some Alice in Wonderland related stuff, and reading the original book even explained some in-game quotes that still eluded me
>>2989479the game implied it, i'm just following the rules
>>2989480i thought i was in the same place as you were but it's been months since i've finished both BS1 and 2 and i'm still drawn to it. everything about it feels so new and inspired to me, there's the bizarre way that fairy tale characters are combined with niggermen and how in 2 there are niggermen that play as offshoots of alice. There's the gameplay itself that is so unique and well done for an rpgmaker way, this was my first actual full playthrough of an rpgmaker and i don't think anything else will be able to live up to this kind of quality. every aspect of this series is so interesting to look at, even the anachronistic art that shaped the visuals of the game because EMMM had to use free art for. there's so much i'd like to talk about that i think i'll write a review for it

>>2989489Very carefully.
>>2989486god the combat is unironically some of the best I've ever played in a turn based rpg which is funny since it's literally conceived by just trying to copy dark souls, before turning into the kino system we have in bs2. I tried playing crystal project recently but I just kept thinking about how black souls blows it out of the water in basically every aspect
>>2989577Have you tried Bravely Default/Second? It game me much of the same feeling as endgame weapon switching, with you having multiple actions in disposal during a single turn, all of which can synergise with each other. As for BS2, I recommend you give SL1 a try eventually.
>>2989476I'm of the opinion that anything experimental and innovative, that also takes actual effort to get through, will leave an impact on you.For me, it was Dark Souls 1, Black Souls series, and Lobotomy Corporation. Haven't played those yet, but I've seen people say the same of Pathologic, Fear & Hunger, Rain World and Signalis. And while I personally think Outer Wilds, Umineko and Ever17 fail in their execution (to varying degrees), I can see why people would feel the way they do about them. And it extends to beyond vidya as well. Blood Meridian, Moby Dick, Captain Beefheart and Death Grips all left a big impact on me, and they all share the aforementioned traits. And before someone complains that comparing those to Black Souls is like comparing a whale to a flea - I am aware, I'm talking solely about their surface-level traits and personal (i.e. subjective) impact.

>>2990569I'mma be real with you. I'm not interested in it either, and am more hyped for the four princesses game too, but EMMM never mindbroke me with disappointment, so I'm more than willing to give him a chance.I'm not sure if I disagree or agree with you about us having seen enough of Red Hood, since EMMM mastered the Dark Souls art of "You like a character despite it not being shoved into your face like most IPs these days for players with attention span of a dead fish", and her being the last link genuine link to the first game, so just enjoy the pic.
>>2990461ctits don't do extra damage to them
>>2990569>Am i the only one who's not really "that" hyped for Dead Red Hood?I'm not too hyped about the game itself, but about all the new characters and the new bits of overarching story we'll get. Also seeing Mabel once again and the keikaku she probably set up involving Red.
>>2990569when I started playing bs1 I was completely infatuated with Rapunsel so I know there has to be people who truly loves their first waifuBut honestly, besides the Sleeping beauty I don't think they have that much of a narrative hook to them
>>2990716Same here with Rapunzel, i think i felt worse betraying her than the other party membersOne of the reasons Lorina ended up my 2nd fav in bs2 is because i've felt the similarities between the two of them
>>2990716>I don't think they have that much of a narrative hook to themi do believe he's gonna come up with something in that regard, unless he already stated that the game is purely fanservice starring the princesses
>>2990716maybe it'll end up like DLC 3 where despite the "selling point/marketing" being about choosing a side between the lion and unicorn it's only really like 40% of the actual content. How do I cope with never being able to find another game like BS2? single party member rpgs + turn based combat is pretty rare nowadays and it's exploration, freedom to kill npcs as well as the weapon variety and grinding autism really hits a sweet spot to me.
>>2991559Have you played Underrail? An absolute gem of a game
>>2991563Yeah, I got hundreds of hours on it across multiple characters. It's a good game but I'm burned out on it.
>>2991573Based. I only ever did two playthroughs, one SMG on normal (gave up halfway because I felt like I fucked up my build) and one Chem Pistols on hard. I should give dominating a try somedayUnfortunately, I have little advice to give you beyond 'Try an SL1 run' and 'Wait for Underrail: Infusion'. There's also the Geneforge series by Spiderweb Software, but I haven't given it a try yet, so I can't vouch for how good the gams are

>>2991653Underrail is a gameplay-focused CRPG, and a really fun one at that. I enjoyed it even more than Wasteland 2 (I should give 3 a try...) and Original Sin games. And unlike Original Sin, its writing is actually serviceableJust like BS2, you'll spend the entirety of your playthrough alone and isolated. Plus the game doesn't fuck around, you WILL need to think about your build even on normal>NPC DreamsI'd be cautious, at this point I'm convinced that Black Souls is the only good RPGMaker H-game in existence. Both SEQUEL and Demons Roots were a massive disappointment, and MGQ:P didn't really grip me. Which is surprising, given how much I love job systems
>>2991685SEQUEL is still good, it just has a shitty and very repetitive story, characters, and pretentious story. The only good thing about MGQP is the gameplay autism, which is great, because it's 90% gameplay autism, the rest is the plot, which is trash pretentious shit too, like SEQUEL.We are fucked.
>>2991708Sequel is mostly a brainless slog where you go forward interacting with everything you can. I stuck along with it until asylum which was so egregiously disrespectful to your time that I dropped the series after. The games are very visually polished, I'll give hakika that.
>>2991708>We are fucked.I don't really feel that way, RPGs are doing very well. BG3 soon, Jagged Alliance 3 is developed under the original designer's watch, there's that Warhammer CRPG by Owlcat, Colony Ship looks promising and Underrail: Infusion is one of my most awaited games next to Silksong. And then there's of course the upcoming EMMM games. DRH is not an RPG, but the 5 princesses game and BS3 will likely take plentifully from the DLC3 combat system, which was actually kinda funAnd even when it comes to last year's releases things seem to be going swimmingly. I enjoyed my time with Crystal Project, and I've seen that Termina and Astlibra were very well received
>>2991738We're talking about rpgm games though but I'm not really hyped by BG3.
>>2991724Remember when sequel was fun, with fun characters? I do. It was fun.>I stuck along with it until asylum which was so egregiously disrespectful to your timeASYLUM is what Black Souls would be, if EMMM had no genius whatsoever. From that game, hakika made sure to make all characters as unsympathetic and the plot as retarded as possible.
>>2991708>SEQUEL is still goodI've played the series to full completion from Blight to Kludge, including the utter mistake known as Asylum. By far the best entries in the series are Blight and Colony, and I wouldn't say that's a glowing recommendation of both of those games either.
>>2987350While I'll admit that a good part of it is select color choice, which I have yet to do really well on, the main thing for EMMM tier scribbles is hatching. Lots of hatching, and having some bizzaro combo of very good line confidence and very poor line confidence. Objects should still be very clear in their shape and form, but their edges are rough hewn thanks to the scribbles. Comboing hatching and darker colors for shading is also pretty effective. The main part I haven't been able to figure out well, are faces. Mainly his heroine faces. Mostly because I can't just rely on excessive hatching and scribbles, and the way he and I draw faces is rather divergent.>>2987428Pretty solid first job, anon. Think you nailed the hair, especially for a platinum blonde color like that. Shirt and cloak for pretty well too. The blood stands out a bit, and isn't quite how he does it, but that's not a big deal. Idk if it is how EMMM does it, but I do really like how you did the bandages, especially with that slight rust on em.Only major thing I could say is perhaps have her stick her left, our right, leg out a bit. She is standing Contrapposto, with her hip sticking out a bit, so having her leg out in the opposite direction to help better convey counterbalancing could help.
>>2991763I was being sarcastic, the only good thing about present sequel is the gameplay, which we gotta admit, is just better and better, but the rest is garbage like junk food. Recylced and recycled.Colony really was the peak, but even then it fall appart post game. It was the beginning of the end in a way.I have no faith in IR.
>>2991750Asylum was hakika's attempt at making a dark souls interconnected world where you can go anywhere easily because it's all so intricately intertwined, except it missed the entire point. Dark souls filled every nook and cranny with things to see, kill, and obtain, and asylum had repeat boring mobs in standard turn based jrpg combat filling enormous maps that had loot like a single fucking currency that I can't even remember the name of. Even EMMM knew better in bs1 and hakika had 3+7(?) games behind him to figure it out. He spent a non trivial time making something so incredibly fucking braindead it just boggles my mind, forgetting the characters
>>2991779>especially with that slight rust on emThat's pus>so having her leg out in the opposite direction to help better convey counterbalancing could help.Yeah I'm dogshit at poses.
>>2991780>which we gotta admit, is just better and betterI'm of the opinion that Hakika can't design a skill tree or balance characters/combat well enough to save his own life. Asylum was especially awful, but even Kludge wasn't great.
I wonder if we will spend the vast majority of BS3 being alone, or have actual party members that aren't summons.Maybe as Grimm awakens his powers we can bring back characters we met in prevous games.
>>2991747Ah, in that case we have much less choice. Though RPGMaker games were always really hit and miss, the low barrier of entry caused a lot of both great and horrible games to be released. Still, the market isn't that bad these days. There's Termina, the upcoming EMMM games, and maybe we'll get the YTTD finale someday
>>2991830BS3 being an SRPG, rather than your traditional JRPG, could be an interesting experiment. Would make sense given that BS3 will likely be about different gardens and niggermen war
>>2991836My. War. My. War.Rastis rastis rastis rastis.
>>2991824Really? I thought kludge's trees were really great. No more third skill tree with the same passives for everyone, nor having to press a button and getting lost in the menus for it.Now asylum's was just cancerous, the familiars was just pure blueballing.
>>2991787It make me so assmad, he has almost ten games behind, some being really good and beloved, but he somehow though that making a game with a big ass empty maps that are easy to get lost into but impossible to enjoy, with obligatory mob farming for money and shards, so that you craft brands for your weapons, which take fucking forever, because the mobs and merchants are jews, and level ups only give HP, MP, and skill points. In what kind of bizzaro universe you do that and think it's a good idea? And that's without talking about the shitty plot, hateable characters and the multiple endings. It's like the dude looked at the most chuuni and edgy thing and thought it was cool.
Tbh bs combat sucked ass until dlc3

>>2991884>>2991888No, they're correct. Even DLC 3's combat isn't that impressive.
>>2991884tell us how did you fought the dubstep knight and god's fish
>>2991904No, they're far from correct.DLC3 forced you to make full use of the battle system's mechanics such as weapon swapping and the different skills. It was a breath of fresh air coming from the main game + DLCs 1 and 2 where you basically stomp every single thing with brute force.
>>2991909>Far from correct>Writes a post in complete agreementIs this a bot
>>2991912What that anon meant is that the combat system was already fun even before DLC3, but the enemy balance was shit. Try doing an SL1 run and you'll see that the gameplay is, in fact, fun
>>2991909>DLC3 forced you to make full use of the battle system's mechanics such as weapon swapping and the different skills.DLC 3 could have gone much farther than what it did, what it asks of the player amounts to basic competence and understanding of the system more than anything.>It was a breath of fresh air coming from the main game + DLCs 1 and 2 where you basically stomp every single thing with brute force. That still applies to most of DLC 3's content too.
>>2991912>Writes a post in complete agreementAre youi perhaps an ESL?To say that "DLC 3's combat isn't that impressive" is far from being correct. That is what I said.It IS impressive BECAUSE it forces you to employ every tool the battle system hands to you as a Player. It encourages you to do the most you can with the tools it gives you, where as the main game + DLCs 1 and 2 did not.
>>2986039>implying that EMMM isn't going to go for the "memories were manipulated, world is a fake" twist for a fourth time in a rowit's basically necessary because he clearly designs these games so that any one of them could be your first (even if you should play them chronologically)
>>2991972adding on to my post, he's gonna do it for both the spinoffs, too, mark my words
Can't believe there are people that unironically like the gameplay of an rpgmaker game (played as a straight rpg at least, adventure\puzzle games i don't mind)If there was one thing i'd be emabrassed about playing this game it wouldn't be the setting of edgy dark fairy tales, the abundance of rape, loli or trap porn, or the shameless "homages" to souls, but rather the gameplay part
>>2991955mind you, not everyone liked that, i've read plenty of complains that dlc3 turned everything into a "gimmick" and that you had to use specific setups instead of just playing however you wanted
>>2991955You're saying "No, they're far from correct." after their "No, they're correct.", implying you disagree with "Tbh bs combat sucked ass until dlc3"
>>2991983By JRPG standards it's actually not that bad. It's no SaGa, but I certainly enjoyed it more than Chrono Trigger or Xenogears
don't engage, people who enjoy jrpgs are mentally ill
>>2991990It doesn't work at all for me unfortunately, anything rpgmaker just makes me think about the times as a kid when me and my group of friends tried their hand at it like we were hoping to make the next final fantasy or somethingI even remember one of my friends making a quest that ended up with a porn video as a rewardIt's like the opposite of nostalgia, even if i can see that rpgmaker as a whole got better with timeBut i have no issue in saying that the story (and art, and even some bgms) more than make up for it, still gonna cheat to high hell tho, i ain't gonna grind for real
>>2991990Don't bite you fool.
>>2991955>It IS impressive BECAUSE it forces you to employ every tool the battle system hands to you as a Player.>extra turns extra turns extra turns>damage damage damageThis easily solves 90% of the fights in the DLC, including the final boss.>oh, %HP damage exists too we should use that>fear too I guess?Florence's second phase and Unis's fight. Status effects in general are sorely underutilized as a concept for battle strategy in BS.>break? never heard of itThen again, Break was only ever relevant a handful of times to begin with, shouldn't expect much else. And no, Gun Break doesn't count as part of the core Break mechanic I'm talking about here. Gun Break was used because it's a way to cheese out damage with watchspam, not to fish for a Break on fuckers. Speaking of underutilized mechanics, Guarding ends up being ignored in favor of damage damn near 100% of the time. Dodge is also left in the dust, but it's somewhat more understandable since dodgestacking could break the game design even more than it already is.>weapon swapping in combatHonestly not needed in DLC 3, or even throughout the game in general. The most useful stuff you can get is an extra turn from starting a fight with Andor +5, another from swapping to the Anchor and using Indignation, and a beefy (though unnecessary) defensive boost from the Knight King's Sword. Items and gear will cover virtually everything you really need in combat, along with your basic skills.Lorde's jail fight is only one that really forces the player to approach the fight differently from the other fights in DLC 3 or even BS2 in general, and even that's only because the game gives him the first move and forces the player to work around him. After the initial barrage he's disappointingly easy to actually fight.
>>2991994>>2992001How about you just go offline if you don't want to interact with anyone
>>2991909Hell, just try to do DLC3 with subpar stats. The general normal mob balance was wack, but it's mainly because you are in a open world.>>2991972God I hope not.
>>2992005How about not making obvious baits?
>>2992003>Lorde's jail fight is only one that really forces the player to approach the fight differentlyWouldn't even give it such high praise, after all even just using an honeybee ring is enough for him
>>2991906
>>2992001People bait and troll much less than you might think. Anons, and people in general really, just hold really bizarre opinions. I get flak all the time in Witcher threads for saying that I prefer W1 to W3>>2991997I can understand the stigma, but it's nonetheless impressive what the creator managed to do within the constraints of the engine. Very few JRPGs allow you this kind of freedom of combat, with lvl 1 runs being possible at all. It's clear a lot of effort went into making the combat system, with a fuckton of different weapons, spells, equipment, enemy types. It strains the engine to its limit. I know RPGMaker games - and especially their combat - are associated with low effort work, but this is anything but
>>2992003No offence, but you are overestimating the brainpower of everyone, underestimating the depth of boss fights, or just bragging, because not everyone is gonna look at the game, go look at every solutions on the net, and know everything.Exploration, dying, and not knowing is part of the game, you seems to imply a new player would know everything you pointed out from the start and know how to use them all the time.
>>2992015>the stigmaI think that's it for most people, it's like almost impossible to not add "...for\even if it is - an rpgmaker game" after saying it's a good gameAt the end of the day, on a technical level, i don't see much difference with jrpgs of old, like i remember playing ff1&2 gba edition and they sucked worse balls in every aspect
>>2991989>You're saying "No, they're far from correct."Yes.>after their "No, they're correct."Because they're not. Again, they're far from being correct. This isn't hard to understand Anon. English is an actually rather simple language.>implying you disagree with "Tbh bs combat sucked ass until dlc3"Indeed, I do. It did not suck ass at all. It was far fucking better than the main game's and the first 2 DLCs.
I'm reminded of how RHW had this miniboss that had a fuckload of health but you could poison it and put it to sleep to kill it without trouble and I found it to be the most interesting fight for long until late into bs2. JRPGs suck and provide the same level of mental engagement as grinding in an MMORPG, with only gimmick fights or self-imposed restrictions to make it interesting. The fact that everyone has to say "b-but you can do a sl1 run" is precisely why it's not inherently good. That's a restriction you placed yourself onto the game to make it challenging and engaging. If you were forced to do an sl1 run in the first place then yes it's a good game. It's like people playing nuzlocke in pokemon because the standard way to play is literally for children. It's good, flexible design that a game allows the player to impose a gradient difficulty on their own terms, but it doesn't automatically make the systems in place inherently thoughtful or exciting. Imagine playing a puzzle game where every puzzle had a button next to a locked door where if you can't figure it out you just had to push the button for like 5 minutes and the door would open.

>>2992018>you are overestimating the brainpower of everyoneOther people having brain issues isn't my fault, or my problem.>underestimating the depth of boss fightsMechanical depth means little when the mechanics essentially amount to window dressing. A large part of the reason why people opt for SL1 runs is to actually feel the need to engage in those mechanics instead of just blasting through everything like they would on a normal run. Even then you can still blast through shit pretty hard on SL1 runs, you just need to pay more attention to how you set yourself up.>or just braggingIf actually having RPG experience and doing SL1 runs of BS counts as bragging, then sure.>because not everyone is gonna look at the gameAssuming you're not talking about something like looking at the game's coding (which I've never done), not actually paying attention to the mechanics the game puts in front of you is a player issue and a player issue alone.>go look at every solutions on the netNever did this either.>and know everything.Well I wouldn't say I know everything, but actually playing the game has given me a good amount of knowledge on how it works.>you seems to imply a new player would know everything you pointed out from the start and know how to use them all the time.I did, by the time I started DLC 3. You're not some freshly fallen undead with brain damage from landing in the Crash Chamber head first, by now the player should have run through the base game, DLC 1 and DLC 2 and have some basic idea of how shit works.

>>2992029how did YOU play the dlc? 'cause that's also how i've cleared it, literally just stacked bonus actions and attack+1 and either spammed basic attack, meteor shower or the thunder triple spell, then i added the dlc3 80% revive armor and the 2 spells that did like % damage and poison\laceration and stuffthe only fights i remember any different were like the corpse eaters that you needed to dispel first and maybe Lorde 'cause you needed to not get killed asapWhat other fights COULDN'T be cleared by just extra turns and huge damage? >>2992028>JRPGs suck and provide the same level of mental engagement as grinding in an MMORPGBelieve me anon, I am fully aware. But BS2 does manage to stand out, if barely, among its competition. JRPG standards are so woefully low that even the Wubwub Knight and the Killer Rabbit (+rematch) are unusually difficult bossesYou should compare like with like - BS2's combat system will inevitably lose out to something like Triangle Strategy, Underrail, or even Library of Ruina - but by the already low JRPG standards, BS2 is above averageIt's by no means a perfect game, but you should give credit where credit's due - it managed to innovate in a stale genre

that's why i play sequel*grinds rng endless dungeon for 400000 hours to deal 2 more damage against the superboss with inflated stats*
Side note, how is a sl1 supposed to be impressive in a game where you can buy stats without leveling up?Feels like one of those asinine ds1 challenges "every monster is gwyn\other boss!" where they just stand at firelink shrine and grind souls by waiting for bosses to fall at a cliff and die, only for then to powerlevel to a point where it doesn't matter anymore
>>2992077An SL1 run involves using no stat-boosting souls
>>2992077The first part of the oops all gwyn videos was absolutely fucking gold though
>>2992077>Side note, how is a sl1 supposed to be impressive in a game where you can buy stats without leveling up?SL1 runs are (or at least intended to be) done without the use of colored souls. SL1 with base stats, everything else is done with items, gear, and covenants. Anyone that actually uses colored souls in an SL1 run is missing the point entirely, since the vast majority of your actual strength comes from colored souls, to the point where doing a SL999 no colored souls run would be legitimately more challenging than an SL1 colored souls run.
>>2992079ah well my mistake then, that is impressive

>>2992267That post isn't saying Guard can't be used at all, it's saying it's generally ignored in favor of just dealing more damage outright. For your sake though I hope you didn't only rely on those status effects and actually used shit like Jabber's scythe as well. Those ailments deal %HP damage and Jabber's scythe would speed up the process dramatically.
>>2992035>Other people having brain issues isn't my fault, or my problem.Congratulation, you are the minority.I'm not even being sarcastic, people thinking on their own, being normal aware or hyper awater, and just looking at things are a minority. I'm not fully blaming them, the true ending of BS2 is BS and their reactions after seeing the birdening is just delicious. One exemple is that in sequel kludge, there's a boss with a gimmick that an NPC explains to you: the boss is too strong for you, you must use a special Extra command for the fight.People who missed the NPC on the way were complaining about how bullshit it was, while the people who didn't were yelled at for pointing out that the solution was right under their noses.

In this poem, Carroll looks back towards a lost love who is already a mature woman. Sometimes this poem is used in reference to Carroll's love of Alice Liddell, but she was just a young girl when it was written thus she couldn't be the mature woman.
>>2993871From this do i take that the woman is an unnamed&never seen lost love of Carroll or, considering the warped context of the game, to actually be the old hag version of Alice Liddell? But i guess she'd be a rich old hag rather than a farmgirl so i guess it doesn't workCool reference anyway

Honestly Kuti being there regardless makes no sense, ignoring triggers and bugged saves and builds and what have youOn a story level, her being there with no meeting makes no sense 'cause in the flooded beach she talks as if she knew you already (saying she came to land specifically for you) and your character goes along with it rather than asking "who are you even?"On a gameplay level, it would be absurd for the dev to lock out players of a whole dlc just because didn't clear it up asap or they left Jubjub alive, the disappearance of the standard covenants is already enough punishmentNot to mention, imagine some players triggering their 10th progress with the Deep Sea Knight and going at the bonfire to rest&save, their reward for completling the dlc being an empty palace and a ruined area with a new character that, not only somehow knew them already, but could only be killedMakes perfect sense that the dev would add an additional trigger to the madness (making children) compared to other covenants

Should I not have met alice before advancing to Lutwidge Town? The world feels too open, I don't know what to do
>>2998086>The world feels too open, I don't know what to doExplore and experiment. You're probably going to fuck up the first time, don't worry about it. BS2 expects the player to cycle a few times.
>>2998082What rings and spells would you recommend? I've fully upgraded the weapons I use.
>>2997629no, that's at the brothel in upper lutwidge, that cutscene is the one that appears at the terrible tragic hotel in passenger ship atlantica
>>2997671She's right outside of the throne room. You had to meet her at Tenniel Bridge, the Serpent God's Altar and the eastern area of the Garden of Hearts first though.
>>2998086>Should I not have met alice before advancing to Lutwidge Town?It doesn't matter if you do.Technically speaking, it's a good thing to do if you intend to unlock all the scenes manually instead of cheating your way through.I always start my first 3 runs by unlocking the 3 Alices scenes in Spore Forest, lel.

Just starting the second game. I assume that the starting 'class' doesn't matter long-term, but is there anything I should know regarding initial performance or difficulty getting their equip later? And most directly: Is Speed still the god stat for most situations?
>>2998493there's a hard speed cap (that i forgot the exact number but wasn't actually that high), and once you hit that point you'll basically be evenly trading turns or maybe lap them once or twice compared to BS1. You can also find the gear of the other classes from corpses placed around the map, and I think all of them can be grabbed without fighting a single boss

I think I drew a Grimm instead and you were cool with that, but I've been looking at this bitch's WIP in my gallery for so long that I'd given up. Trying an entirely new style approach, and having no idea how to go about it was agonizing. I'll see if I can buckle up and actually finish it for you within the next thread. So check in at least once if you can, to call me a faggot for not delivering. Also, even if Leaf's a bitch, thank you for giving us footfags something. Unicorn's greatest sin was denying us the looking-at-garbage-footjob.
so I finally played BS1 and I'm at the end now, got end B and all but everything just reverts to the state before the final bosshow the fuck do I escape the cycle, it said something about "complete library" but what fucking library is that? I must have missed something, what is it?

>>2989367Leaf is objectively the best girl, leaving aside the fact that without her BS wouldn't exist, she was one of the reasons why BS was a success, her simple but effective design makes her adorable without being a coomerbait, and neither is she set in the story to be a waifubait like red along with her playful but reliable personality made her the most popular girl before the release of BSII, even though she has almost no appearances in BSII she is still one of the most popular girls and her appearances besides being fun are always important to the story making them not useless but also reinforcing her importance in the games.

How does buff duration work? Requiem says it has two turns left then disappears and gets me killed as soon as my turn ends.
>>2999572exactly like that example for some reason, any buffs that have 2 left on them will just end after that turn because idk

Is there anything I can do if I'm at endgame of BS1 and still have Jeanne's ashes? I can't dispose of them to get the book, but the shaman NPC in skeleton cave isn't showing either

Man, the pistol seems way more useful than any shield I've found so far. Gun Break is so fucking handy, even considering the cooldown.
>>3000188People have a kneejerk reaction to AI generation nowadays. I can't really blame them, considering the vast majority of outspoken proponents of the tech do their best to sound as retarded and obnoxious as possible, plus there's plenty that actively act malicious for one bullshit reason or another then unleash truly phenomenal mental gymnastics to 'justify' their actions. But it does have the unfortunate effect of piling shit on people who just want to have some fun with it.
>>3000203Buy watches and unleash the power
>>3000203Gun Break is extremely powerful early on, but endgame shields are better.
I'm shamefully reading alice in wonderland for the first time and carroll sure had a way with words. I fucking love his poems, and I wish I could wrap my brain around how he makes them so good. My head is probably too far gone from reading shitty wns to recover.

I'm unclear, what does Luck even do in the second game? Crit chance? Item drops? Both? Neither?
>>3000265Neither. Affects ailment/debuff inflicts, both outgoing and incoming. Read hints.txt some time.
>>2992060Name one major fight in any game where the win condition isn’t to deal damage, or render the enemy capable of receiving damage. Bonus if it isn’t games that force the player to run away like a fucking coward even though they beat the challenge easily and would have been able to kill the enemy with ease if not for the retarded plot. Also, any game that can be made more interesting with optional content such as sl1 doesn’t count. Is there anything more to make the requirements equally as retarded as yours?
>>3000265>>3000269I wish games would say what Luck does, or call it something else.

How DOES one pull off SL1, exactly? I made an attempt and utterly stalled out a few bosses in, because everything felt like a walking stat check.
>>3000756you simply can't feel like a hero in SL1, at least without spending at least one or two cycles crawling like a roach and baiting for lucky criticals to farm either ores to upgrade or candy to trade with pickle peeonce you have your black goat rings and +10 weapons you can start a new cycle and just play as usual
>>3000756You would also be amazed how much loot and gear you can get without having fought a single boss. Gear and skills are 100% your bread and butter for SL1, and getting a bonus turn item sooner or later. Don't forget the free early candy stash in town, as Black Goat Rings will also be super important as you go to meet certain stat checks.
I got all the endings up to G, but I hear there's at least one more. I haven't touched the chaos dungeon yet and the only DLC I've done is the deep sea one, how do I do the rest of the DLCs or endings and does it have to be before or after the NG+ Crystal.
>>3000904After you're done with G, go to the regular dungeon and talk with kot there. Then, go to Oxward academy to talk with the doll there. They'll both give you hints how to access ending HBut before you go into H, do Chaos Dungeon up to floor 180 or so. You'll know when you're finished, you'll get a massive lore dump
>>3000934Thanks anon, are those hints also related to accessing the new DLC areas or strictly just the ending?
>>3000949BothChaos Dungeon = DLC2Ending H = DLC3Also, if you haven't done so yet, fight the first boss (Headhunting Rabbit) with a Vorpal Blade +10
