Everything else is fagging for the sake of it and pseudo difficulty. Every mechanic should be avoidable with decent effort and fairly easy to interact with. A good game has mechanics and content to spare such that you won’t loose (physical) value or simply enjoyment by playing in any certain way over another. Bashing your head against a meta is a weakness in game design and proves the game is not fleshed out enough to let you game or play, literally, by interacting with mechanics and world in a educational (bildung) fashion, naturally lead, to but also incentivise and reward growth, as if you were a child exploring a forest, finding that no matter how far you go the wonder never spots, over hills and rivers, even reaching the barring fence and road you cannot cross.
Games without this start too difficult, even out in the middle and get too easy at the end.
No matter if you found the game enjoyable, and most games are enjoyable, this doesn’t make it good. A game flawed in design might, will still be enjoyable. Only upon repeated playthroughs you‘ll start to see the cracks in the foundation. When at that point only the game within the game, the meta, keeps you playing, your game certainly doesn’t offer meaningful choices and a well designed world.

I'm surprised to see a thread specifically about this game instead of it just being a name drop is some catch all indie RPG thread.
The people in here denying that this game is possibly like the GB SaGa games are just full of hot air. It actually is like those games.
The set up is basically "What if we did a game from the perspective of the inhabitants of one of the floors of the tower?"
It's a nice competent game as well.
Which shouldn't be too surprising because when you're emulating the formulas of old titles that were well loved in their time you have a huge proven design base too build off of, but somehow for every game that does it right like this one, it seems like there's 3 more that claim inspiration from the same era and get it wrong.

It's not better than Crystal Project tho
As I've kind of already pointed out, False Skies plays it safe and doesn't really push the envelope in any aspect of its design.
Crystal Project on the other hand is an actual advancement in world layout/level design that makes you ask if other developers are even trying
Especially because so many modern RPGs that are coming out of Japan (except for sometimes Xenoblade) seem to have abysmal level design. Like, look at the shit that passes for a dungeon in a modern Tales game, or Octopath.

I'm one of those guys who looks pretty far and wide between Itch, GameJolt, deep on Steam, and through random various sites to find RPGs like this one.

Unfortunately, after playing for several hours (not even sure how far in the game I truly was), I got too bored and gave up. I'm at the point in my life that I'm more willing to drop a game if I feel like I'm just forcing myself to play it and, unfortunately, it just felt like it was going on too long.

I love the pixel art, which was my first reason to try it out, but the combat felt too frequent, money often felt very low, and combat felt like I was doing the same thing every time. I only ever got to, I believe, Tier 2 classes around level 20 for that tier, so getting close to Tier 3 (I think anyway), and I was losing interest fast.

That whole thing in combat where enemies "react" to you based on what you do is somewhat vague and sometimes, depending on the enemy really, felt like it always triggered leaving me getting blasted back pretty often.

I wanted to separate my team into truly unique dudes, like the classic one of everything kinda thing. Of course, knowing how magic CAN be really good, I wanted to get that whenever offered, but you get Mage and Sorcerer (Fire/Ice magic vs Earth/Wind magic) on two different classes that can't just go back to each other to learn the other one's magic, so that felt pretty shitty. I had one tanky dude, one healer, and two mages.

Every battle was the same thing minus the occasional attempt of debuffing enemies/buffing my team. Of course, the game doesn't do a great job of telling you how long the buffs/debuffs last, nor does this game have much discussion to look through on Steam, so it's not always easy to find an answer to questions.

Sorry for blog posting, but I wanted to give a genuine opinion as an anon who WAS interested, but ended up uninstalling the game.
