>>2978558I dont have any progress.
should i release the intro as a demo? it wouldn't be any combat, just the intro and the first bit of walking around and talking to people in the village before jet and emilia set out to go get their rings.
I can't post progress, too much spoilers.>>2978678Please release the intro as a demo.
>>2978721will do. looking forward to seeing what you make this time btw
>>2978558So the lesson is don't put previous threads on OP?
>>2979049yes, but also the lesson is that jannies are fine with a bunch of repetitive generals and a permanent mother 3 schizo thread but not one of the two or three threads on the board that actually generates new fun things
>>2979051Sounds about right, shouldn't be surprised.
I only started this morning on the 6 month jam. I lost progress months ago and have been despondent since then. But not today.https://yewtu.be/watch?v=IFotxcEYJCg>>2979049>>2979051Can you still link previous jams or will that kill the thread? I'd be happy to update the website.
>>2979102>only started this morningI'm considering adding more days to the jam now

I think we should stick with jams no longer than 2 weeks from now on..

>>2979778>6 month extensionThat'd be based.

>>2979794They look a little strange to me. Style might not be my cup of tea, though.

>>2979305>>2979311>>2979713No more extension you WILL complete your game by Thursday 3:00 AM
I think I'll take the day after tomorrow off from work to finish the game.
>>2980021My game is already completed but i decided to just not upload it.I played it and decided its not very good.Ill try making something short and upload it if i like it better than the last game if the jam gets a 7 day extension.
Just a reminder that you can just post your game in the thread after the jam ended if you weren't able to finish it in time.
>>2980021I WON'T finish my six months jam game in time and you can do NOTHING about it.
>game mechanics are unique and fun, stemming away from the traditional RPG Maker setup>it's all coming together>MU is literally me and supporting cast are copyrighted celebs and anime chicks>I cum inside all of them>stolen music>becomes an absolute RTP nothing burger when I remove all of theseHey, you said "Self-indulgence."
>>2980367That's the spirit!I don't need an extension, I started late and that's okay if my game isn't that great. Also, I worked on a Freddi Fish charsheet that anons are free to use. I won't be because it was supposed to be in my big spongebob game that I accidentally deleted in December. Freddi is all I have left of the game... I spent so much time making the perfect Bikini Bottom and was almost done with the Krusty Krab but it disappeared when I reinstalled windows assuming I had it backed up. It was gonna be so good, my best yet... I'll never actually make it so I'll just give anons the premise.Spongebob notices Krabby Patties taste off even though sales are through the roof so he investigates around town. Patrick, Sandy, everyone is missing. At Sandy's dome, he finds a hastily written note telling Spongebob that she's in the hospital and not to worry, she'll be back soon. The player then gets attacked by ninja assassins when the Bikini Bottom hospital says Sandy isn't there, meaning she must be at Rock Bottom. You take a bus there and have to fight deep sea creatures to the shady "health clinic" which is actually an abortion clinic. Spongebob sneaks into it and finds Patrick and Sandy post-procedure. In another room... is Mr. Krabs and his own daughter, Pearl! They had an incest baby that was aborted.Spongebob follows the mechanical chutes to an underground facility run by Plankton whereby aborted fetuses are ground into meat in order to make Krabby Patties, hence the title Onions Sponge. The player has to fight a variety of minibosses until you hit the last level where you confront Plankton, who has been harvesting the souls of aborted babies in order to perform a fertility spell on his elderly mother he has been attempting to impregnate for years in order to preserve their inbred, noble bloodline (like Rothschilds or that X-Files episode Home). Oh, and String Emil joins you as a crusader against abortion.
>>2980565>copyrighted celebsWhat did he mean by this
too late, I already unjoined the jam.
>>2980616sounds like it would've been true organic kino, thank you for at least sharing this info with us

>>2980694>>2980695What sucks is I finally discovered dithering and now I don't have the patience to recreate it. Don't know how real pixel artists made classics like Metal Slug, King of Fighters, etc. The more I learn, the more I realize I know nothing. If I ever come across a large sum of money, I WILL fund the game getting made by a small team of developers.Any progress to post anons? >>2980565 sounds promising.>>2979794The girls look trashy in a fun way. >>2980769for what it's worth man i think that your pixel art's come a long way and it gets better every time you make a new game

>>2980782>>2980783based
>>2980769Thanks for the faith Anon kek. The plot is generic: Isekai'd into a war-torn world and you have 100 days to save it. Game over's don't happen but the bad ending is you don't get to bring back any hoes to your world if you waste too much time. There are 4 different kingdom story paths you can go for, along with a 5th sideless path.>what I have planned40 unique bachelorettes, as well as 10 bachelors. It's impossible for me to make every single unit unique, especially with only 7 classes and set stats, so I've made them unique in other ways than their stats or skills. Some units are heavy plot-related and change the story drastically if you fuck/marry them, while others yield weirder children units. Some bachelorettes don't even fight or heal, and just stay at your house.>what I've doneMade the classes and their skills via skill tree (class promotions are too much of a bitch to work out in comparison). Most maps are finished. They're not my strong suit, so I don't give them that much thought. There's a 100-floor challenge, and at the bottom there is a black magic item that can implant ovaries and vagina in your husbando to yield a child unit. Or sell it for lots of money if you didnt marry a man. You can buy and renovate houses, some are more expensive and extravagant than others (some bachelor/ettes like the superficial goods). I just used the RTP houses and mansions for that. They look pretty enough. There are two interactive sex scenes right now. The lesser one is a footjob scene where you jack hammer away. Not very proud of it. The second is more intricate. You're hitting it from the front by pressing a button. Did the courtesy of asking if you're left or right-handed so you can fap with one hand and smash with the other. Waifu squirts every 50 taps, but you can coom whenever you want by pressing another button. I'm way too proud of this segment. There's a lot more that I have planned and done, but I'd be here all day if I went into detail.

There are 4 different kingdom story paths you can go for, along with a 5th sideless path.I had a somewhat similar idea, but instead of wide world it was focused on a single war-torn location and instead of doing everything fast it's about a long, tedious, never-ending grind, to a point where question arises of what is it worth for, is sunken cost a valid reason on itself to continue and where is it time to stop. I thought of making it so over time place just dynamically becomes gloomier, darker, ruined, enemies grow in strength and number, characters become less coherent.Though I started only recently and need at least or two to finish, so not this jam apparently.

Anyone else here use Song Maker for their RPGs like >>2989143 does?Playing around with it, and it's a lot easier to use than other programs I've tried.> https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Song-Maker/song/5597435543158784Even with a basic S shape drawn on, it still sounds melodic, with minimal corrections made.(I tried using Avids ProTools, but its hard to use, and I can't get it to work on any of my newer computers/laptops. And FruityLoops has been an issue in a different way)
>>2992465Nah, these sound too flat for my taste. Once you get a hold of basic sound plugins like amplification and extra reverb/echo it's hard to let go of them.I had issues with ProTools and FruityLoops too before so I had do ditch them. LMMS works very well on my 2011 windows laptop though and ZynAddSubFX is a really powerful plugin to make and tweak your own instruments if you need to. Been using it since 2020, no regrets so far.
>>2992505Does FMMS let u edit music in this fasion? (dropping notes into pitch/place? also preferably extending notes, or volume, fade in/out?)My biggest gripe with music lab is the inability to adjust basic features.but the overly complex features of protools makes it such a hassle to just click and drop notes, and quick test a basic melody. What little i can see from FMMS it looks ot be as complicated, and to not even offer the pitch/placement midi like option that song maker has.
>>2992530>Does FMMSIt's LMMS, though called "linux" it actually has a windows port.>dropping notes into pitch/place? also preferably extending notes, or volume, fade in/out?)Yes, you can do that with a click on Piano Roll, you can then stretch notes manually down to millisecond (groups too withought them losing their starting point) if you're not satisfied with common note lengths and adjust individual note volume on a built-in graph that's in the same panel with a leftclick or leftctlick and drag to imitate fade-ins/outs (though it's more convenient to manually tune "Attack" and "Fade" in the instruments tab). You can also place intervals/guitar tabs/accords with the same click if you need that. >and to not even offer the pitch/placement midi like option that song maker has.Huh? I think you mean the Piano Roll function. It has both it and those tact-based togglers (always forget how the're called), you can even combine them to and use former for your main instruments and latter for beats/snaps/kicks. If you mean controlling the whole song, you can do that by dragging BPM meter up and down and the nearby pitch slider the same way. Adjusting pitch for individual instruments is just the matter of left-clicking the instrument and adjusting oscilator proterties there.

>>2992949>should i even bother? since im just TOO new to music making.Better sooner than later, you can't make electronic music and not know how to manipulate waveforms at least. There are step-by-step guides on youtube on how to work with ZynAddSubFX that go into everything in detail, as well as touching sound engineering basics. You'll get a hang of it really fast, don't worry, it's not musical grammar that can take more than a year to get the grasp of.For now, experementing with built-in presets will let you to make decent music (just don't forget to apply amplify/echo/reverb built-in plugins, they tend to start sounding flat if not taken from bass library) if you want to nail down basic principles. Also, don't forget that TripleOscilator plugin has a lot of decent premade waveforms that work great too (I'd even say its electronic pianos are better than the ones ZynAdd has).

>>2994349>>2994354Nah, I think this could be done in 2k3 with maniacs easily enough if you are an event wizard. For newer makers I think all you'd need is a cbs script, a mouse support script and any yanfly scripts that add whatever else you need. Abilities could then be done easily with the database and common events.Hell, if you, anon, use vx ace I'd be tempted to try and make the cbs script for you. Sounds like a fun little project to do while I'm trying to put my life together.
>>2994598I was just about to say, nothing about this seems difficult to do even in 2k3/maniacs. Break it down into its base components and build it up from there.>Combatant info (make a variable array that contains all this info)>Autobattle loop that executes normal attacks each cycle for each combatant>Parallel event that detects input and executes additional commands based on what you pushed/clicked on/etcIf you're comfortable with indirect variable reference, none of this should be exceedingly hard. That said, it's one of the great filters of RPGM despite being incredibly easy after it clicks in your head.

>>2995370Well it does for me. It might just be a problem with wine tho, but this never happened with 2k/3 games before.I'll try it again tomorrow on easyrpgplayer, I'm going to sleep now.
>>2995406But it didn't happen, anon. You must've imagined it.Wine is probably it. I don't know if easyrpg can play games with maniacs either though. Very sad. Was worried young characters didn't work because there's special text for all endings if you make one that's under 3.
>>2995415I'm near the point where I give up on cross-compatibility with EasyRPG. There's just too much jank even with the devs finally adding features like stringpic, which barely works, and hates anything that isn't the built-in fonts. Lots of other obscure but useful features like>Variable and Indirect Variable Change Actor Name>All of the String Variable features (basically replaces \n[] for all purposes outside of its original intended function)>File I/O (giga niche, but useful for loading in text strings at least)>Call Variable Common Event (extremely useful for backtracking through multi-layered custom menus that can be called at unpredictable times)>Images originating anywhere except from center for regular Show Picture commandsIt's frustrating and you basically have to design 2 versions of any project, or take the long way around from the start, to make a game that 100% works with EasyRPG. Without the option to do StringVar or variable name change, lots of things that can be done in one easy command take a hell of a lot more effort.I get that 99.9% of people aren't using any of the above stuff, and anyone who is should technically be more than capable of figuring out alternative solutions to all except ultra-extreme stuff that has no reasonable alternative, but you'd think with how much they've already included they'd at least try to keep up since BingShan hasn't really been adding that much new stuff to Maniacs as of late.

hi, i am a new dev looking for a good structured timeline to try out rpgmaker and a game jam sounds literally perfect. not to mention that the current theme idea is literally LITERALLY perfect for what i want to do. i agree more time is better than less for such a theme. i fear a couple weeks to a month would be too little for me, i see there is a lot of pushback on 6 months however. maybe do this grand theme for 6 months but allow shorter (couple weeks to a month) jams for other themes? it seems too good to waste and id love to jump in. thank you for your time fellow anons.
>>2999467>try out rpgmakerKeep it simple. If you start with a big idea for 6 months jam, you will give up.
>>2999467>i see there is a lot of pushback on 6 months howeverThat's because we literally just had a 6 months jam until like last week and nobody enjoyed it.Also >>2999496
>>2992465For those looking for a free music editor that has a bit more features than Chromes Music Lab Song Maker, then try BeepBox.coIt has all the same features, but 13 simultaneous instruments, 8 drums, elongated notes, escalating/deescalating notes, and a few other extra features. You just need to adjust the UI in preferences/edit, and youre good to go.This is going to be my primary music editor (DAW) from now on.
>>2999497I enjoyed it...
>>2999353>>2999370True. Long-term jams are a bad idea, on /vrpg/ especially.

>>2999882Can't use MuseScore 4, it doesn't allow Piano Roll. Need MuseScore 3.6
>>2999467>6 months but allow shorter (couple weeks to a month) jams for other themes? This literally what we did on this jam, it just wasn't all that fun and I lost my steam for the big project very quickly.
Im tempted to see if I can convince a small group of ppl to work on a VERY small project, like a SINGLE DUNGEON.Just for the fun of working in a group for a month, and then be done with it.I *think* it would be short enough, ppl wouldnt abandon ship too quickly, thinking only a little bit more, and then they can abandon ship. But I tried this on discord, got no bites. So, does anyone here think it would be a good idea to do this mini jam with ppl here?
>>3000241everyone contributes to each file
>>3000241I wouldn't be opposed to a collab jam, but I don't many of the other actual devs care for one
>>3000314But i want to write my name in the credits of your game so i can act like i finally actually participated in the jams instead of just sitting in the threads to spread my ideas for jam themes...Please...Lets do a group project...Can i at least put my name on your game since you arent opposed? I can even give you a title idea if you want.
>>3000241No offense, but I really doubt you will pull anything good out of this from a single post. Nothing to go on right now that can potentially unite people. Consider this:1. What's the skill entry level and who will be the judge?2. What's the artstyle?3. Will the art be a group project (characters done by 1 guy, dungeon itself is done by another, special effects/decals done by another, etc) or done by a single person (to preserve the consistency)?4. Will this dungeon be tied to an already existing RPG system or a new one will be programmed?5. What is the music style you're going for and will it be collaborative effort or done by an individual?6. Will there be a need for a writer?7. Will you be the one to do the screening process or do you want the group to decide what comes and goes?8. What platform will this all take place on? /VRPG/ (centered around anons, open discusion but overly transparent and with a chance to be muddied by faggots) or Discord (more organised but baits anons to come out of their comfort zone) ?9. Do you aim for a consistent vision or a random shitpost?
>>2999302Please, more long jams>b-but i hated it personally! kill yourself

>>2999302Please, no more long jams>b-but i liked it personally!kill yourself
>>3000359>>3000365Legit what is the point? everyone will do some token work on whatever project they make, then focus on the shorter jams when those come, and by end it turns into basically a month long jam anyway where almost no one uploads because expectations were too high, better to do month long jams and have people actually put stuff out there
>>30003631. I'm a hikki with no desire to speak with people beyond this board.2. I have no Idea what the "CEO" even wants things to look like in the first place.
>>3000241The only reasonable option is a "chain game.">Make a small part of the game>hand it off to the next person who continues it>repeat until the endAvoiding the issues that come with having a proper "team" would be the one single way to make sure the project doesn't go into dev hell.
>>3000417That sounds doable.
>>3000417There is also the option of having 1 guy make the entire game to the end but having other anons create the assets that will be used and giving ideas for the story, with the dev retaining full control over what goes in the game. Of course, preferably the dev would put everything in other than stuff that is clearly a troll but finding a dev like that would be the hardest part about such a project.
>>3000468>but finding a dev like that would be the hardest part about such a project. We could always try nagging Retinacyst, although I have a feeling that dev is a little burned-out from hosting all the /vrpg/ jams right now.
>>3000477The first problem with me hosting a project like that is that I would take every single suggestion, even ones that others would think are trolls. I've seen some strange content in my time and I believe we need more of it.The second problem is that I'm completely self motivated, so I'd never end up finishing something for another person that wasn't my friend, boss or commissioner.
>>3000566I commission you to host this project! How does $100 upfront sound?Honestly, I've been thinking of hosting such a project for over 4 months now but I barely have 5 hours of daily freetime in weekdays nowadays and I'm afraid I might disappoint people if I didn't make constant progress. Besides, I have poor work ethic and I'd feel terrible if I never finished it in the first place.. I still feel bad for not finishing some shitty fan-game I made when I was like 15..
>>3000621I don't know if I'd be able to finish an entire game for others, I've done drawings for money before but never a whole game. I don't know if I trust receiving money from random anons on 4chan either, sorry. Also I'm probably going to be not doing jams anymore so I can make longer games tailored just for myself that have no time limit or expectations attached to them. I have a lot of ideas I've been sitting on that I want to work on.
>>3000708Try again
>Basic skill tree function added>Custom battle system foundation laid out, working basic loop for testing purposes>Slowly making changes to the "easy" solutions to problems that wound up being short-sighted>Wishing that there was a way to reposition the default text boxes to specific coordinates without having to resort to cheap workarounds like hooking the text, concat'ing it to a string var, and displaying it as a string pic>R&D'ing some in-game manual mapping and automapping options. One of those is exponentially harder than the other without resorting to cheap trickery
>>2982197I would really like it if it would be "underwater" . Sadly it's pretty underutilized genre without any good games. But don't mind me I have yet to participate in a jam
I wonder if I can make an ammo system with states and without resorting to plugins or just renaming MP.
When's your next game, Goburinbro?
>>3000842You should probably be able to do it.>create bullet item>at the start of all fights check if you have at least 1 bullet, if not give, add a state to the player that seals the attack skill>when you use the skill "Attack" run a common event that removes 1 bullet from inventory then checks to see if you still have at least 1 more bullet>if you don't have any more bullets then add a disarm state to the playerIf you want to add reloading as well:>add a variable called "bullets in gun">change the check at the start of a fight so it applies disarm to you if this variable is 0 instead>when you attack it reduces the variable to 1 instead>add a skill called "reload" that calls a common event that sets that variable to whatever number you want and removes as many bullets from inventoryAs for how do you avoid enemies attacking fucking you over.. just give them a different attack skill.Of course, this won't work if there are more than 1 actors in your party unless you use a plugin to either save in a variable the idea of the actor who attacked or to change their attack skill.
>>3000282depends on how many ppl group up.>>3000325Im assuming sarcasm. Correct me if im wrong.>>3000363ok nvm.>>3000355The main reason I didnt put up a theme, is because theres always the ton of ppl who want to be "the idea guy", so id just let them do that if they want. It comes down to who you get, and allocating jobs accordingly. I can just fill in which ever role is needed. I can make basic music, basic spritework/art, and or be the writer. (Of course Im not great at any of the 3. With spelling/grammar requiring the largest amount of time to correct/fine tune.)but to answer your questions;(1) Not applicable, as it's just for fun.(2) Depends on whos designated the artist(3) Depends if the group is made up of more than 1 artist(4) Depends on what the group wants to do. (Id suggest everyone talk it over, and disagreements mostly settled with voting)(5) Depends on whos the most musically talented of the group.(6) If we get someone wanting to be a writer, we'll incorporate writing. If not, then it may just be bare bones dungeon crawling.(7) Good question. This is the one Ive been the most unsure of. I guess i feel it out, in a similar way i do when running raids in MMOs. The degree in which i "take over" is dependent on what the group needs/lacks in terms of teamwork/leadership. If someone else already acts like the leader, and everyone was already giving them authority, i dont usually step up. But if everyone is meek and quiet, i usually step up.(8) I think recruitment was 4chan, and then discord, as I just dont see how it could be done in such a long period of time, unless we all agree to threads made at certain times of the day (if the old thread is dead)(9) Realistically, I expect 99% shitposters. But its meant for the fun of working together, not to make a good product. As long as ppl dont expect a good product, they may be able to limit in-group fighting.>>3000417while not a bad idea, i think thats better suited as a "part 2"

>>3001276Holy shit, an /rpgmg/fag here! Are you just browsing or are you making jam games?
This might be a stupid question, but how would you go about actually implementing a custom combat system in maniacs patch? I get the idea for how to make it with a ton of value checks etc but how would I actually make it so the game loads the custom combat system instead of the default one for random encounters? How many of the jam games use custom combat systems with maniacs patch by the way, I'd like to play them to get a feel for how it was done.
>>3001286yeah i made a couple
>>3001288Ive only ever made my own combat system with events. The "Maniac Patch" is that a pluggin? or an official patch? Im not familiar with it.As for making your own system, you can either use maps/events on the map, or you can use the default combat system, but have the event load at the start of combat, ignoring normal mechanics, and prioritizing your events until the fight ends.I have no real reason to do this in default rpgmaker, but i did it just to see if i could, and to what degree.
>>3001288for the latter part, check out ojosama and retinacysts works. for the former i guess you would just use a step counter that increases the probability of a fight every few steps, and then when the system sends an encounter you just launch your battle system
>>3001293I just mean RPGmaker 2k3 with maniacs patch
>>3001288Basics of custom battle systems aren't too bad to explain. Just think of the things you need.>A way to load in the data about your characters/the enemy party at the start>An array with consistent locations for data (xxx1 = actor/enemy ID, xxx2 = HP, xxx4 = MP, etc)>a way to convert the player's choice of who does what to whom and when to data>stuff that you pass the above info across to calculate damage/effects/etcPic related is essentially a debug use view of this exact process.>First digit is the location where each combatant's data is stored>2nd digit is a number representing the action they will take>3rd digit is the location of the target(s) data>4th digit is the speed statistic used to determine action order (sorts from fast to slow, naturally)All of this is stored in an array, and the end goal is simply to point to the start of that array and execute exactly the stuff it says, in the order it says. Your goal is just to fill that array up with stuff to do.Let's say that combatant 6301 does a normal attack (ID 1) to combatant 5101.>Coarse point to 6301, fine point to grab any info we need such as Strength, accuracy, anything like equipment that modifies strength, attributes>Point to 5101 and grab defense related info/resistance stuff, evasiveness>Run a check to see if the attack hits at all>Run a check to see if the attack crits>take the attacker's total offensive values and run them against the defender's total defense values>apply weakness/resistance>subtract the damage from the defender's HP>apply any special effects that might happen afterwardsrepeat for each combatant's actions until you reach the bottom of the list. This is an oversimplified view of how this works, and most of the "hard" work is just getting all the parts in place to begin with so you have a working prototype to tinker with. Can't stress the importance of pointers/indirect variable reference enough either, as it opens the floodgates for what you can do.
>>3001206to congratulate nodes having 50 downloads.
>>3001435based, congratulations. maximizing score in that game was really fun.
>>3001331I understand how to make it, I just don't really get how to make the game trigger the custom battle system instead of the default one. Would I have to set the random battle triggers myself and ignore the default random battle triggers entirely?
>>3001508>Would I have to set the random battle triggers myself and ignore the default random battle triggers entirely?Yes.
fantastic news everybody i've just come up with a great plotline for the "evil bastard man" theme jam-
>>3001634The long jam proved more time=/=more games. You might have an idea but you would never actually make it and upload it even if given more time.
>>3001637nta but I made bunch of assets already then it's suddenly 4 hours until deadline. You forgot people here have jobs or something to do so they can't simply dev for 24 hours straight.
>>3001644Which long jam game is yours?
>>3001650none, because I didn't even know the existence.I was playing MMO.
>>3001637>you would never actually make it and upload it even if given more timeim a regular jam dev though? i just can't come up with and make a game in 48 hours lol
>>2999882>Plus its extremely convolutedThat's because musescore is for transcribing music, not producing entire songs. What kind of insane retard would ever look at that program and say 'ah yes, my DAW of choice'? Of course its going to be so painful as to be prohibitive, its not meant for that sort of thing at all

>>3002267Is that sky diving scene a reference to some movie? I swear, I saw it in a couple of other VIPRPGs with the same voice clips and sounds.
I drew some character now what
>>3002881El Shaddai.https://youtu.be/li0yID0-l9wIt was one of the bigger memes during that time period on NND. Enoch himself also became a popular model to use on MMD during that time as a comedic jobber. It's really refreshing to see it in a VIPRPG format though. The meme was more pervasive than I thought.
>>3002948Thank you for clarification.I never even heard about this game before.
Next jam should be about making sequel of already existing games from previous jam. Original dev cannot apply for their own game.
No more jams for at least half a year. It time to rest.
>>3003197There ain't no rest for the jammer, anon.
