>>2852016Tungstuncan is kind of a meme. It works because of crits with sledgehammer or if you're going AR and you really only need to take one or two turns worth of attacks because everythiing should be dead by third turn anyways. Nimble-can or evade is better for most weapons anyways just because moving is such a strong ability in this game against enemies in general.

>>2852493well, anon, that pic is a collage of in-game screenshotsyou tell meMy first two runs were 3str 3con xbow chicks in hopper leather; I wanted to do the opposite and play a full str/full con/full armor build, so I collected all the options related to that (except stoicism which I couldnt afford; I figured sprint would be too important), and I wanted to actually use balors hammer. I think I might be the first person to actually do a balors run. Adding PK makes a lot of sense; theres the str synergy and it gives you even more ways to make enemies sit still, plus a few ways to hit from a distance. The downside is you have somewhat less hp, and can't main mushroom brew. Back then I cheesed quite a bit with traps/caltrops/nades and such; I don't suggest playing a tungsten hammercan build without PK or versatility or something.

I literally ran 3 laps around the arena vs Carnifex before finally overhead-swinging his head down into his ribcage. I actually did some math based on ingame information, and I think I get the worth of a single individual charon, which also lets me guess the average income of underrail inhabitant.According to Briggs at the Core City docks, a single armed and trained mercenary would be paid 7 charons/hour for guard duty, and twice that for actively combing through abandoned lemurian facilities, which would amount for 50/100 charons/day with a 8 hours long workday, or 1500 to 3000 charons per month(average 2250), food and assorted expenses presumably not included as you have to buy them in-camp.Assuming that the average northerner have a standard of living similar to that of a 1st world inhabitant, and that such mercenary would be regarded as an skilled laborer and paid as such(about 50000 to 90000 USD/year), that would mean a single charon is worth the equivalent of 2 to 4 dollars/euros(remarkedly similar to the value in weight of a silver denarius today, which clocks at 2.60 USD), while a SGS credit would be around 0.65 to 1.3, and an United Station Dollar would go for 3.33 to 6.65 dollars(of course that assumes 1 United Station Dollar bill=1 United Station Dollar), and it also means that the individual valor unit in-game is between 6.5 and 13 cents of a dollars. Also, since Ladelman repeatedly states that the (presumably unskilled/semi-skilled locals) workers in the expedition camp are incredible well paid, and assuming that said pay is the similar to unskilled laborers in the north and therefore equivalent to modern values(20000 to 25000 USD), and also assuming that their pay is between twice and thrice the average pay in the south underrail, we can say that the average southerner makes about the equivalent of 8000 USD per year, or between 2000 to 4000 charons per year.

I have 2 playthroughs going on right now. Assault rifles and knifer. Haven't finished the game yet, my rifleman is up against Garry in the arena and my poker is still in Junkyard. My question for you hardcore dominators is what location/quest order should I be going in? Does it matter? Or just find something else to do when it gets too hard?
>>2857435Usually if I'm playing on Dominating, I will do the high charon reward quests first so I can buy all the crafting shit I need. Oculus quests are easy and their merchant is the best in the game so I do those as quickly as possible if my build really needs it. If my build is really good for 1v1's then I also get the arena done early
>>2857435Classic mode is difficult for me due to autism. The higher you level, the lower the XP returns are for killing enemies whilst quest XP rewards remain static. 2500 quest XP might not seem like much when you're getting 830 XP for killing a Lurker, but it's much more significant when killing that same Lurker only nets you 200 XP at level 28 or whatever. Thus, I only do quests that give me the equipment/abilities that I want for a particular point in my character progression.I also take into account the character level at which the XP returns for killing an enemy begin decreasing.Greater Coil Spiders, for example, start to diminish from their juicy 910 XP reward at level 23ish, so if you're at level 15 you'd be better off doing quests killing off Ironheads or similar enemies rather than Coil Spiders because they will have already begun giving reduced XP rewards for being killed, rewards that will only depreciate further if you gain levels from doing quests/killing high-level enemies first.Or you can just play Oddity and do whatever the fuck you want, Oculus quests are good and the Institute of Tchort can be accessed pretty early with a decent build. If you're using ARs, you don't really need to worry about how good your gear is because you'll be kicking arse no matter what. That being said, Protectorate is good for guns and Gorsky's quests will get you some nice unique ARs.As for a knifer, doing Camp Hathor's quests early is helpful for the Hunter Feat, which works against a very broad range of enemies and will also be handy against Bladelings when you're unlocking high-level metal plates at Foundry. If you're doing crafting, there are also a couple of places you can get to once you unlock Core City where you can get several ~100 quality steel plates (regular, tungsten or TiChrome) without having to fight anything or rely on merchants.I hate knives though, someone else might have some additional suggestions with regards to them.
so if i want to play underrail-like game my only options are to play underrail or make my own underrail-like game?
>>2857754>this is your brain on classic xp
>>2857754I don't see the point of this. Classic overlevels you from just doing quests and only killing things once when exploring. I have just finished the Coretech quest line and haven't even started expedition and I'm aleady level 23.
>>2857807>>2857871>Or you can just play Oddity and do whatever the fuck you wantIt was a joke
>>2857946Oddity sucks because this isn't a pokemon game where you don't get rewarded for killing things, but still have ways to accumulate XP (by pouring it into your fighter collectibles). The irony in Underrail's system is that it's a combat oriented game but you're disincentivized from fighting and exploring. You always have your quest and always follow the objective on a leash like a good doggy. This misses the spirit of Fallout entirely.
>>2858032>You always have your quest and always follow the objective on a leash like a good doggy.Literally all RPGs do this, why its a problem all out the nowhere
>>2858032>but you're disincentivized from fighting and exploringWhat the fuck are you own about, this game rewards you for both exploring and killing, most of oddities are dropped by enemies and theres a lot of enemies to be found while exploringDo you even play this game?
>>2858036>Literally all RPGs do this, why its a problem all out the nowhereNot him but a lot of quests in Underrail are quite linear, basically just Kill->Loot->Return kind of deals, with maybe a choice of Sneak->Loot->Return for variety sake, while in something like fallout there were often several ways of completing a quest, even relatively basic ones.Do note that I think styg did overall become better at quest design through the development, even if the encounter design in Expedition was kind of ass.
>>2858038Quests yield more XP. Simple as. That's why stealth is OP.
Unarmed or Sledgehammer? I want to play some kind melee/Telekinesis hybrid. If swords or spears work with it I'm willing to give it a try.
>>2858140Both are good, sledgehammers are strong all game, more forgiving start, but at the end they dont reach the absolute kill and damage potential that other weapons have, like swords and unarmed, you will stilo get by, just without flashy moments. Favours tanky builds.Barefist unarmed favours a mix of dex and str (with more focus on STR), glass cannon leaning, its start very punishing and lackluster, turning the early game borderline tedious, however when you reach mid game (level 14 or 16) you exponentially become more powerful, your damage output multiplies and become an absolute killing machine, roleplaying as your favorite punchy anime characters.Swords mix better with TM, Spears with MT
>>2858140>SledgehammerDo you want 20k damage crits or no?
>>2858167I asked because I am trying to play an Unarmed character but at the moment is an absolute slog. If it gets better I might try to stick with it.>>2858185As long as you can get there without wanting to kill yourself, sure.
>>2858140>I want to play some kind melee/Telekinesis hybrid. If swords or spears work with it I'm willing to give it a try.>Unarmed or Sledgehammer? All of them work for that. You just need to build around STR and minimum stats for feats/weapons you want. For sword, that means 6 dex for flurry and 6 int for red dragon.
>>2858187Yeah barefist unarmed (not counting gloves) is an absolute slog at the start, but then your power simply skyrockets. The main reason why is that, while the rest of weapons get a mere additive damage bonus from STR, the damage bonus for barefist is multiplicative, once you start getting strong your punches will start breaking bones. Also most of barefist damage boosting feats might be also multiplicative, althought im not sure of this one.The treshold you should meet is 5 AP punches, you can meet it with 9 DEX, lightning punches and tabi boots.Use rathound regalia and eat STR food, expose weakness is fucking great, stealth is also great, make sure to get Dirty Kick and kick people on the nads out of stealth so long undetected for a reliable 95% CtHTrust me if fistfag would be here, he will insist on how good barefist is
>>2858314Yeah, I was thinking along those lines too when making the character. I've yet to pick Dirty Kick tho, too many good feats to fit in at lower levels.Good to hear that it gets better. And about the food, is it worth it once the build starts coming together to All-in for the big fights or is it too risky? I've opted for a Dodge/Evasion+Yell(eventually) build so I should get decent odds at not getting hit, but I'm still a disgusting CONlet.
>>2858343I will also insist on unarmed being very good, probably the best melee option, and with the sheer amount of status effects one can inflict via punching, I'd even argue that Dirty Kick is not necessary for the price of 3 (or nearly 4) punches.Even with 3 CON you can still end up mildly tanky by taking Super Steel Armour and Dodge/Evade. Add a serrated blade to the armour and you can rapidly build stacks of Taste for Blood too.You will have to specialize in Armor Sloping, but there aren't many must-have specializations for unarmed anyway. Rathound Regalia, Vitality Powder, Slampipe, Supersoldier Drug, Expose Weakness, all of these combined will let you make mincemeat out of anything up to and including the 4 Naga encounter.All-in is good for getting you to 4 AP punches as well as for the massive STR boost, but it kind of runs counter to the use of Dodge/Evasion for damage mitigation. If you were running with 12 base DEX I'd say that slampipe would be a better food option, but All-in would massively increase your power and the downside of being critted a lot is offset somewhat by higher CON.Better kill/disable everything before it can attack (not difficult) and hope you don't have to fanny around too long getting All-in from the cocktail bar.
>>2858343>And about the food, is it worth it once the build starts coming together to All-in for the big fights or is it too risky? If you dont get hit, yesIf you get hit, noSo long you dodge, evade, kite, alpha strike and abuse corners, doors, stuns and flashbangs, you will do goodBut this implies both knowing how to get by in combat as well having a good buildIf all of this is Yes, then by all means get a junk jet ski from Camp Hathor, get a lot of money, get Cheat Engine merchant refresh and go ham on All In

BTW, I'm actually doing the 15 6 6 7 3 4 7 build since I can get more psi points and better crafting skill point distribution.>You are not that different from themIncorrect. The nature of PK with low will and projection v. dipping TM are entirely different. TM is objectively broken and dipped into because it's broken and is practically passively used as nothing more than a couple buffs. It doesn't require any feats or building to make it work at low will. It's feats actually do nothing but further improve it. It doesn't really require any tactics or timing to make it work. It's practially an "I-win" button for builds that are designed purely to bypass the game. Whereas Telekinetic PK by it's nature is an active supplement to any STR build requiring tactical placement of the proxy and good timing with the use of its abilities. >t. Hammer Wizard>smells like a coward move>its just my autistic opinion so its whateverI see. You're retarded.
>>2861410>I see. You're retarded.No I'm not the guy playing a psi build with 3 Will.Now THATS retarded.
>>2861417>psi buildIt's a hybrid sword/pk build. It's not a pure psi-build and needs the STR more than will to hit things. >no arguments>just tu quoque with no substance derive purely from sentimentMy point is proven.
>>2861420The only thing proven is that playing any sort of build with psi but also 3 will is incredibly retardedYes even Telekinetic high STR builds.
>>2861422You haven't proven anything. If you think you have, you're really retarded. >Yes even Telekinetic high STR builds.Let's take the extreme case. Corporeal projection with 6 specs and 15+ STR yet only 3 will does the same damage as a 15 Will PK build without feats using Telekinetic psi. The main difference is the access to feats and about 6 points of pp/turn and access to feats. A melee build that uses PK for tactical options definitely doesn't need most of these feats. Dumping other stats for more will at best ends up getting you a few points of damage if you don't dump str for the extra will points which turn out to be marginal and a few points of pp/turn. Unless you're loading up on several feats for PK (which you have to sacrifice feats that are beneficial for the main source of damage; i.e melee), the additional will gets you very little for a PK/melee hybrid build. The further you go down the PK-line, the more you have to give up in your melee line so you might as well just play pure PK at that point. Unless you really need the proxy to do daze on movements or you really want force user, there's very little reason to go above 3-4 will for a telekinetic PK/melee hybrid.
>>2861456>or you really want force user, there's very little reason to go above 3-4 will for a telekinetic PK/melee hybrid.Force User, as well Stoicism with Iron Will are fucking great, there's no reason to below 7 Will3 Will psi build, no matter how you put it, is bloody dumb
>>2861422not him but i've done this a dozen times at least and there's zero things wrong with iti've even done a MT/sword hybrid with 3 will and you still put out decent damage with plasma beamthough it was more about pyro abilities for fear, i could still pick off people at range in a pinch. there was no reason to compromise on the sword abilities (my main source of damage) for a little bit of extra damage on the backup plan>>2861456don't sleep on TK grounding, another way to max out hit chance on a sword build is extremely useful and it lasts like 4 turns, very good for dominating bosses with their hugely inflated dodge/evasion
>>2861468>StoicismLol. Better to take conditioning over it, especially with high con. At 10 con, conditioning is always giving you 15% resistance from the listed sources. You have to be missing a lot of hp to get up to that point with stoicism (40% of max) without spec. Unless you're running a high con build with a lot of hitpoints and keep your hp less than 40% of your max hp, you might as well take something else since the fight is going to be over by time the resistance is meaningful enough to matter.>Iron WillThat's nice. But what do you have to give up for the will? Your STR/DEX so that you're less effective at melee? PER so you're less effective at range? Bullhead will cover stun and incapacitated. So it's really only for anti-psi fighting. I can see having a problem with it running Tungsten where you have no movement. But it turns out it's not as much of a problem for more mobile builds, especially not for the ones that can focus down the psi enemies on turn 1. >Force UserIt's good. But then again, I have to take away from one of the abilities which provide a large amount of utility and even my effectiveness in melee just to get Will to 7 for that. For some builds, it's just not worth it. >3 Will psi build, no matter how you put it, is bloody dumbNo you.
>>2861497>Lol. Better to take conditioning over itWhy wouldnt you take Conditioning and Stoicism together in a tank build?
>>2861502You can take both. It's just that conditioning is objectively better and has no will requirement so you don't have to dump stats like dex, agi, int, str, just to take it. Plus you don't have to trade off feats that would be much better for any build just to get that extra resistance at low hp.
>>2861872>It's just that conditioning is objectively betteNo, Stoicism is by far the best tank feat in the game

The appeal of rpgs, especially ones with as open exploration as this one, is that you can do what you want limited only by your build and whether or not you can handle an obstacle at a certain point. >That's what makes his game(s) interesting. It's not. What makes this game interesting is breaking it with your builds. That's pretty much what this game's mechanics turn it into. >>2862467>deciding feats as he goes>implying he wants a game where leveling is supposed to be a natural progressionAs it is, the skill progression favors rigorously planned builds and punishes spontaneous play. If he wanted this game to be played more spontaneously, he should've shipped the game with a completely different progression system.
>>2862597Good points. I can't really speak for Styg, but I'll try to put a spin on some of these.>You shouldn't expect people to play a particular wayYou're right. I think I should have said that he wants to discourage certain types of play. An example of that would be encumbrance and equipment hoarding, Al Fabet style. He stuck to this at first but sort of walked back on it with newer additions, especially the merchant belt. This sort of thing is why I think design direction has changed.>It's notAgain, you're right, I phrased this whole thing like an idiot. What I meant was that Underrail is interesting because Styg went hard for his vision and refused to compromise. Which created a unique product. I think builds are part of that, but not as big for me as they are for you.>As it is, the skill progression favors rigorously planned builds and punishes spontaneous playI think you are correct. This is why randomization is being introduced. What if that item you're relying on never appears? What if it appears late, after you have to overcome THAT obstacle? Oh, this crazy thing appeared early? I'm going to change my intended track through the gameworld to rush the spell it benefits! The idea is clearly to encourage an at least vaguely defined plan of where to take the character, but then throw pitfalls and the occasional blessing in the way.The level of over-optimized bullshit we see today where players select every detail of their next 80 hours before even creating their character is just obviously not going to be encouraged. I wouldn't say the goal is to be "spontaneous", just dynamic. Of course you are realistically probably going to still be able to cheat whatever you want in.
>>2862614>>2862506You literally sound deficient. None of the shit you talk about favors normal difficulty shitters. You went on a giant tangent completely unrelated to what was being said.

Just finished the first quest. Going to get some cave hoppers next. There's a lot that doesn't make sense to me, so I wanna ask here. What do the psi abilities do? Can I forget about putting points into some skills and still come out okay? At what point does Gunslinger pay off? What builds are staple and how do they work?
I just entered into DC for the first time. Bros I need some help. Give me some pointers. I can only find one root thing and it didn't drop what I needed, where do I find the others? Will the side quests take me where I need to go?
>>2863168>What do the psi abilities do?Magic stuff. If you're not planning to invest into PSI never ever get the psi-pill from Pasquale, since it lowers your HP as a tradeoff. It's legitimately useful to invest into PSI for basically any build, but you can also end up doing very little with it unless you have a clear idea of what you're doing. If you don't feel confident with it, don't do it.>At what point does Gunslinger pay off?Gunslinger is always great if you plan to use firearm pistols a lot. Just beware that it only works on pistols and only on firearm pistols specifically (so no energy/chemical stuff).>What builds are staple and how do they work?If you're playing on Normal/Easy don't worry about it, just pick any of the Offensive skills (i.e. Guns) and focus on that.
>>2863170Do you have high sneak/good sneaking equipment? For the most part there's no sidequests, you need to do just about everything except 2 quests far as I remember
>>2863189Not really. Could probably craft something. I reloaded a save before entering because I didn't think it was going to be another few hours of walking around solving puzzles. I just thought it was going to be a gauntlet of tough enemies. Which it is, but with a lot of wondering around looking for shit while enemies spawn infinitely.
>>2862630I can't believe I keep having to explain this. Consider the people who play dominating with extremely detailed plans. Ones that absolutely require a special psi headband. Now consider the people who play normal with lighter, more flexible plans, who value exploration and "random flailing". Which group do you think would be more affected by increasingly dynamic gameplay and randomization? When people use the term "literally" just for emphasis, it makes me think they're, like, literally 13 years old.

What do I have to know before making a shotgun build?
>>2863168The next time you level up click the button that shows you the list of every feat in the game. Take the time to read over all of them.Pick out about 8 of them that sound strong (especially those that either give you free actions, more AP, reduce AP cost, or grant you an area of effect attack), and then make a note of what stats and skills are required for them. You'll be able to gain a stat point every few levels, but if you're far off with a bunch of them it'll be worth it to reset. By doing this you'll create any build that's effective, no matter what weapon type you're focusing on.This is the best advice I could give to someone just starting out because there is no respec. As for psi, I would recommend picking only one discipline that sounds interesting to you and then invest a little into it. No matter what kind of build you choose you're almost always going to come across instances where a certain psi power is very beneficial or efficient. It's always going to be worth the -10% max HP loss.

>>2863315How do you compensate for savescumming when planning builds?Let's say you have a mediocre chance to hit, but it works every 10 reloads, so you get more damage instead because when it works you output more DPS.Makes sense doesn't it?
>>2863344There are a lot of builds that don't come 'online' until 20+ for these situations you can get by with grenades, traps and caltrops. with enough prep work nothing in this game is unbeatable. If you are running into a situation where you have to reload 10+ times in order for your % hit to work your strat is simply flawed or you are underleveled for that area. Sure you can get screwed by bad RNG like a critical miss throw and have to reload occasionally but not 10+ times.
>>2863344Flashbangs, telekinetic punch, taser, beartraps, nets, etc.
>>2863379>>2863390I'm talking about purposefully gimping the build's accuracy for boosted output in edge cases (savescumming).
>>2863344>How do you compensate for savescumming when planning builds?By having 10 CON.
>>2863437You may be underestimating the number of encounters in this game. Anyway, scaling up damage often results in scaling up accuracy. >>2863437>purposefully gimping the build's accuracy for boosted output in edge casesI guess you're thinking about>>2863315>you can skip on perception a bit compared to other gun builds thanks to leading shot. This is not for edge cases. Shotgun is already short range. 200 effective firearm skill against 200 evasion with leading shot is now 200 v. 90 evasion. Evasion v. skill and distance are the primary portions of ranged precision so you pretty much have precision covered by running a short ranged build and having a feat that minimizes enemy evasion. The only other factor, darkness, is countered by night vision. Check out the precision calculator >https://underrail.info/junk/precision.htmlYou can afford to drop some perception for other stats making your character stronger overall. It's more along the lines that edge case ARE NOT being built around since those edge cases can be dealt with via buffing (consistently able to get +3 per before expedition and consistently get +5 per after), and utilities like nets, flashbangs, psionic abilities, etc. since stunned/incapicated/dazed enemies don't have evasion so distance is the only factor in hit chance. You can easily get away with 7-9 or less per on a shotgun build because of this.

How does dodge and evasion work in Underrail? I've read the wiki, but there's no clue on how they work specifically. And as far as I've noticed, it doesn't seem to work the same compared to Battle Brothers.
>>2866141As far as I know it merely subtracts the effective combat skill of the enemy with your effective dodge or evasion, but I might be wrong
>>2866141There's a good amount of info on the wiki about it, so I don't know what the confusion could be if you already read the articles for dodge/evasion and precision.Basically they're defense stats opposed to the appropriate combat stats, you can dodge melee attacks and evade ranged ones. Evasion also helps against explosions.

>>2869332I've done that once before. It gets good faster than you'd think, though you do have to dip in grenades every once in a while to get past the occasional high armored foe or robot. I just wish shock shurikens weren't so god-awful. The cost to value ratio is completely fucked
>think I finally mapped out entire lower caves>get a jetski>mfw
>>2869733Enjoy finding out the waterways dungeon
>>2869344That's why you do knives+TC
Is that Abram's room on The Rig? or just someone that made the cybernetic spawn for him?
>>2861360Chort means damn
>>2869774Look at the rug and tell me.
>>2869779huh usually I hear it used as damn
>miss 5 95% shots in a row>crawlers rape my ass
>>2869838I believe it is used as damn, for exemple "Ech, do czorta" in polish.
>>2869945Never bank your last AP on killing a crawler unless you use PSIBetter to just flashbang or taser the crawler to secure yourself another turn
>>2869994>>2869838makes sense, damn is short for "God Damn" and there's nothing God damns more than the devil.
>>2869774>Is that Abram's room on The Rig?No. >or just someone that made the cybernetic spawn for him?No.
I wanna play a jackass tincan with a big stupid weapon. The more explosions are involved, the better. What do I need to know?
>>2870223as a sidearm you could use the .44 magnum. .44 has explosive rounds and the magnum gets a 0 AP special attack
>>2870223AR or Shotgun tincan with development along the throwing perk line?
>>2870228wait I lied the magnum ability is only 0 AP if your initiative is 20 or more
>>2870223sledgehammer/blasting caps, throwing, full tungsten armor, suicide belt, metathermics
>>2851195what the fuck since when did the fridge door have an animation
>>2870432Granpa, are you talking about that old Underrail game again? It's 2054, put on your headset already...
>>2870438>>2870436WHAT THE FUCK I SWEAR THE DOOR NEVER OPENS WHAT
>Phone quest with Phholy shit
HEY! YOU'RE NOT BOB! INTRUDER ALERT
>>2870538You don't remember me, your old pal Not Bob?
Never fucked around with metal armor. Is there any point in the defensive skills with all those penalties it gives? Armor Sloping exists, sure, but does it make enough of a difference?
>>2870662you can throw grenades at your own feet and kill everything without taking damage
>>2870662No, dont bother going dodge, evasion nor stealth with metal armor.
>>2870662They're only any good with a set of super steel/tichrome armour, if you're wearing a suit with <20% armour penalty for an unarmed build they are definitely worth it.
Can I still join the drones if I persuade them to return the train?
>>2870725I think not. Lying about the trains location after letting the bandits steal it is the only option that results in drones recruitment
>>2870738Well fuck Time to gas some drones thenShame, I'm playing stealth faggot so they would fit my character more
>>2870741you can always join the pirates later and do their raiding quests, only thing you really miss out on are the nail bombs.4vx
This is deepTY styg
>>2870741>Time to gas some drones thenIt's always time to gas the drones
another happy landing
>level 14 >get 153 quality cyclon frame from a shop
>VivianDamn, Coral was right
What do you think is the most fun quest anon?
>>2871312>can't save her and settle down with
