Which class is the best for your Pawn?

My personal favorite is ranger for pawns.
Hitting shit with the force and precision of laser-guided missiles can be an absolute boon for some encounters.
>>
I mostly play as assassin/strider/ranger (i'm a basic bitch, ik) so i like my pawn not to have any use for arrows so i can use them as a walking ammo crate, so that puts 2 of the 6 vocations available to them out of question. I don't seem to be able to make a warrior pawn work so i tend to ingnore that vocation too. The other 3 work just fine for me, depends what i need done :)

That's how I set up, plus giving them a ton of knockback gear and rusty daggers is top tier.

I wish their climbing AI wasn't a joke so I could shield launch tiny waifus as a warrior with better melee setups.

strider with a strider pawn is fun, I think it learns how to climb on monsters better by seeing you do it.
double sorcerer is great too for chaining spells.
>>
Yes I play Warrior and yes I have problem with flying foes.
>>
>>2701717
Tank-spec Fighter, buff-spec Mage, and almost any sort of Ranger.
Tank-spec Fighter and buff-spec Mage are both tedious to play for an Arisen but the AI handles the roles well when their inclinations are in the right order. Tank Fighter is just a weaker Mystic Knight and you know why buff-spec Mage sucks to play.
Ranger over Strider because the AI can't really take advantage of climbing and all the little tricks of Strider the same way the player can but they're certainly good little aimbots that can kill just about any distant issue while you're worried about the big guys.

Fighter: Mitigator/Utilitarian/Pioneer. Utilitarian makes them spam Shield Drum and Pioneer encourages them to be the first thing the enemy sees. Don't give them Scather as it highly encourages climbing and Fighter is shit while climbing. Don't give them Dragon's Maw because they'll waste all their stamina 5 seconds into a fight.
Mage: Utilitarian/Medicant/Challenger. Keep Medicant secondary or the Mage will mindlessly interrupt buffs or attacks to start casting heals when you've taken scratch damage.
Ranger: Challenger/Nexus/Acquisitor. This gives your Ranger three roles: kill mages and archers, carry other downed pawns to you, and collect loot from those mages and archers they kill quickly before it disappears while you're killing the big boys.

Just started playing this game for the first time a few days ago. The combat is pretty fun but I find it challenging against anything that isn't a goblin. Bandits do a lot of damage and I have to keep reviving my party members mid-combat against them. I'm not surprised that Rook and my other pawn (I forgot her name, just some skank I picked up) would die a lot since they're a low level but my main pawn still gets downed frequently despite me giving him the best gear I can get. I'm playing as a fighter and my main pawn is a mage.

Is there some trick to combat I'm missing or are bandits just strong as hell? I just escorted Quina out of the witchwood for a reference to how far I am in the game. I don't usually play JRPGs and ARPGs, I'm more of a CRPG guy, so I'm assuming there's some basic knowledge about these games I don't have and it's filtering me.
>>
>>2714652
Bandits are a huge casual filter at that stage of the game, it happens to all of us
>>
>>2714652
Mage are exceptional squishy in this game and pawns often don't know how to run away from enemies. Listen to your pawn advice, those bandit kinda over leveled at the start, plus they rely on overwhelm you with number so try to isolate and kill them one by one. Blocking is good way to make them easier to kill since they need time to recover after failed strike

What the fuck, I had no idea this song was in the original game. I've only been playing Dark Arisen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZNbabKjKpA
Just hearing this makes me want to play the game even if it filters me. Why isn't it in the new version?
Anyways I've made it a bit further into the game, now I'm getting fucked by that big monster in the spiral stone thing beneath the Pawn Guild. Does the game want certain quests to be completed in a certain order or do I just have to grind to get stronger? I have no idea when I'm strong enough to take on a new enemy or not.
>>
>>2715713
You suppose to avoid the big ogre and the thing is pretty dumb that it usually jump of the cliff. Once you reach the bottom, you will face a bunch of tentacles, listen to your pawn and get the fuck out of there.
>>
>>2715713
>now I'm getting fucked by that big monster in the spiral stone thing beneath the Pawn Guild
Ogres are fucking hell when starting out with their high defenses. If you have a mage/sorc in your party with Comestion, it has a high enough base damage to punch through and do some decent damage regardless of level.
>I have no idea when I'm strong enough to take on a new enemy or not.
Just have to decide that for yourself.
With how often the pawns spew out that "There's no shame in fleeing" line unprovoked, I assume they expected that it would be a decision made somewhat often.

Why not ranged Strider? Is it so hard to restrict them to use only (or at least mostly) bows instead of daggers?
>>
>>2718386
Strider has way worse bow skills than Ranger.
Strider shines with the dagger.
>>
>>2718427
I haven't considered anything else as I thought the Striders' OP reputation stems from both. Are you saying I should pick a Ranger as my Main Pawn / 4th member to my party (MK Arisen/Rook/Tank-Block Fighter) instead?
Alternatively, Ranger + Dagger-only Strider instead of the Fighter? I'm not that comfortable with this as my Arisen would be the only (quasi-)tank in the line-up, but I see a chance that the increased DPS might make up for it.
>>
>>2718435
>I thought the Striders' OP reputation stems from both
Nah, that's mostly attributed to Skull Splitter's retarded damage output.
You only really need a Fighter/Stam. Hammer Warrior drawing aggro if you have a bunch of casters. MK, Ranger, and Strider don't particularly benefit from enemies targeting someone else.
In fact, it would be somewhat detrimental to MK to have shit attacking other people, since you want to be parrying attacks constantly with it.

B'z is ridiculously popular and the song was pretty much made for Dragon's Dogma (although remade from a single released back in 1998).

But yes, licensing fees are a bitch.
>>
>>2718674
Eh, Fracture hits hard, but it can be a bitch to use indoors, and pawns can't even tell if they're fucking up their shots.
Downpour's not bad, just solid.
Tenfold can be fired off way more rapidly, and its "piercing" when something dies and the remaining arrows pass through, helps with multiple targets.
Deathly Arrow (especially Reaper's) is way better at punching through high defense, and Strider doesn't have anything that can nuke like Gamble.

>>
>>2718629
Thanks for the input! Honestly, "only" MK Arisen and Rook are given but I'm kinda sold on the Tank/Blocker Fighter too. (Maybe a sturdy Warrior could replace it? I dunno.) Which leaves me one slot for a ranged, physical DPS class.
I'm looking for synergy and versatility (I want to complete the game w/ this team), plus I wouldn't mind if the AI could perform decently on it's own. One last question: what pawn (class/role) would you recommend for the party above?

I mean I like souls games. As much as I like 2d igavanias.

But I hope they pour some love in DD2 and actually finish its mechanics now, from quests to romance to side shit, just to have an action alternative to TES games, its not even safe that we will have a decent TES6 so DD2 could become a nice stable franchise. Even if less mod intensive, but I dont trust bethesda with modding anymore.

I mean RE engine can you even imagine the bikini armor mods for it? It will be great.

>>
>>2719786
That's just the way it is imho. For online pawns it's the lack of knowledge and effort from most owners, for offline ones the semi-random nature of the system that generates them. Finding proper pawns take time and dedication.

If you're using a ranger or magick archer, stagger him by shooting him in the chest-face with six or nine fold arrows as MA or your ten fold as ranger after eating demon (MA) or conqueror (ranger) periapts. Use magic rebalancer as MA as well. Dodge roll the big magic arm sweeps and the ground targeted spells. Make sure to run directly away and yell "come" when he does the vortex, when your pawns are no longer being drawn in, shoot him while he's channeling and recovering from the vortex. Use liquid vim liberally in the fight.

S tier:
>Strider with rusted bow which could almost be considered an exploit for how good it is
>Fighter with only dragon's maw
A tier:
>Mage. Boring but it's useful as a buff monkey and healing some chip damage for free.
>Sorcerer that matches your PC sorcerer. It's just there as a charger.
B tier:
>Everything else except otherwise listed. You'll never get them to do your DPS strategy consistently like getting a ranger to consistently spam tenfold flurry on a weak point.
C tier:
>Sorcerer when you're not a sorcerer. You have to purposely gimp its skills to get the casts out in time.
D tier:
>Sorcerer with its "upgraded" magic, because it takes too long
>Warrior. Can't spam jumping attacks like you can and gets outclassed in every way by a fighter pawn.
F tier:
>Sorcerer with those grand magic rings. Just trash em holy shit.
People ignore the fighter pawns but their AI is busted and they perfect guard 99% of attacks so they're knockdown machines that are also invincible to physical damage due to the defense formula favoring core stats. They're only pawns that can solo 13 eliminators at once.
>>
>>2719786
Look at their skills first to determine if the player is using them correctly or not. So, like for example, if it's a fighter with shield drum, it's fucking garbage and you can skip it.
>>
>>2701717
What's the best height & weight for each Vocations? Is there any good reason to go below Med/Med? Besides making lolis ofc.

Fighter technically have that sword swing upward that can deal with flyers if they got close enough, also useful to try to poke at the monster above you. Warrior have no such thing.
>>
>>2724977
Right, though that's highly situational and has pre-requirements out of your control. More than nothing, but just barely. Why couldn't we have gotten something like a Pilum?

Warriors in nutshell, huh? It seems they always get the short end of the stick in DD. I never played one due to their bad rep, but I'm still looking for a Pawn build who's only aim is to maximise the class' potential.

The game is balance around the fact that one class can't do everything and that you need other classes to balance out. Pay attention to their Inclinations, anon.
If you take a pawn who has, for example, Guardian/Scather (Protecc you / Go after strongest enemy), they'll constantly be running back and forth, unable to make up their mind.

Also as another anon said, pay attention to their skill loadout.
>>
>>2710907
Your main pawn's Inclinations will drift based on your commands, your behavior and hired pawns' actions.

Damn frustrating when you get your pawn perfectly trained, and then they pick up bad habits which you have to get rid of by spending RC on elixirs...

warriors are actually halfway decent tanks due to their innate stagger resistance when attacking

>>
>>2729042
Thanks for the concrete tips! It's weird how Warrior doesn't have a "best" build (like Fighter with only Dragon's Maw) by now. I guess it's not just about the builds themselves but how effectively the AI can use them.

Being able to tank any kind of damage, short of a one-shot, by shitting all over the flow of a fight is one of the weakest aspects of the combat.
