Well?
>>
from a gamplay view law route is best (slaughter the innocents)
but I can't take denim seriously as a hero after going along with a war crime, especially since he and his sister suffered through one as kids
unpopular opinion, but neutral is actually my favourite route but it cucks you in terms of recruitable characters (it shits on denim even harder than when he goes along with genocide wtf)
>>
>>2272452
you get more characters than you need anyway and neutral is the only route that's even vaguely fair to Kachua
>>
>>2272184
I understand.

Go ahead with the false flag. If the Walister are too complacent to fight back before it's too late then they must learn the hard way.

From a Character POV doing the Law made zero sense, also Vyce is a little bitch that don't deserves a happy ending or being a hero.

Law, route is the most fun, most interesting story wise, and Chaos/Neutral are just fucking lame. Also my halfbreed wife can only be recruited in Law route.

Chaos is based is literally you vs. The whole continent and won
>>
>>2273046
I pity you. You look on the world and see only avarice and greed. You are prisoner and gaoler, held hostage by your own base desires. It is within you to free yourself, if only your pride would let you. Instead you lead your fellows to their doom.

If the PSP version had individual character levels instead of job based levels it would be better than FFT for me.

played this game early this year, loved every second, whenever i have the time i'll give it another run, whats the most fun party? in terms of jobs
>>
>>2274131
no more than one unit per class
1 dragon + 1 beast (octopi are godtier)
ninja for ignoring height difference and getting behind enemy archers to fuck up the back lines
dark knight cause they're fucking cool
the rest is up to you
>>
I always get the urge to replay this game, but fuck if it isn't EXTREMELY tedious in a lot of ways.

Any fan patches to make the more tedious parts less of a drag? Like increasing skill gains, crafting faster or making leveling new classes not a slog?
>>
>>2274216
I just used cheats in the emulator to boost EXP gain and craft rates. I've heard there's a mod called One Vision that rebalances a bunch of things, but I haven't tried it personally.
>>
>>2274273
Gotcha. Ill give it a shot. The game is stupid long if you want to do all the routes and everything, which just makes sense honestly with the time travel like system.
>>
>>2274273
I've tried One Vision, can recommend it.

I did a playthrough on based Chaos route, just rushing the main story with no grinding and it was good fun.
>>
>>2274131
If you've unlocked a lot of classes you haven't used, it's fun to use them all on NG+ so you can level them all up simultaneously.

Snes version is bullshit.
Tried it and damn it was unfair as fuck.
Glad the remake fixed it.
>>
>>2275672
>Unfair
It's more broken than the remake because you can do dumb shit like having a swordmaster with petrify spells that never miss and full power summons.
If you got filtered then you probably didn't stack enough damage and whatever stat that governs hit rate.
>>
I tried playing both this and xenogears and bro....these are the only two games i'm considering just dropping and watching a playthrough instead.
>>
>>2274273
One Vision is literally the only rebalance mod that I would ever recommend to a first time player. It's legitimately just a better version of the game. Nerfing Ozma and making Lord more versatile but less powerful are the only debatable choices in the entire hack, and the hack is fucking huge.
>>
>>2276299
>the only debatable choices in the entire hack
but every single time it gets brought up I see some people complain about the rebalanced healers making fights a grindfest
>>
>>2276408
???

Healing is hard nerfed. It's rarer, and revive spells straight up don't exist, specifically to avoid the grind of high level fights where every single character can shit out free HP.
>>
>>2276427
Really? Magic healing felt underpowered in base TO, whereas item healing was strong but the AI rarely used it because they didn't have the appropriate passive to let them use the higher tier items.
The only times enemy healing were notable was that one battle against a high level Terror Knight surrounded by Clerics, and the Chapter 4 battle against Tartaros if he gets the rank 3 defence boost.
>>
>>2276446
I'm more referring to post-game, when everyone has everything.
>>
>>2276427
Revive spells don't exist anymore but rebalanced healers in the new patch are insane. They're quite bulky and their heals can easily turn the tides in battle
>>

>>

Ravness and Ozma, in addition to being very cute, are both great units, and there's no reason to complete Chaos or Neutral without them when you can take them back with the wonderful power of WORLD

it really needed the build-up. It only makes sense after the fact and with all the extra story shit, like learning that Vyce was raised by a deadbeat drunk dad whose only refuge in life was with the Pavel family and how much he seethed over but ultimately envied Denam, it doesn't help that he devolves into a slobbering fucking psycho monster right on the spot either, his crazy face portrait shouldn't have kicked in until at least much later in the Chaos route
>>
>>2276887
>>2276891
You also get Vyce in Law, so thats a potential Holy Knight, Temple Knight, and a a Ranger. Chaos has decent recruits like the sisters, and Cressida but nothing as good as Ozma, Ravness, and Vyce.

what little remains of the team that last worked on anything Ogre is stuck on FFXIV and I dont even think matsuno sadly gave that much of a shit to begin with, especially after jolning (then retiring from) Square. Law route is better overall, but the best Denam is the Chaos one, and after playing with a Based Chaos Denam the Lawful one feels less somehow even if the route in general is better.

Why is slaughtering innocents considered 'Lawful' and not doing that 'Chaos'? If anything it should be the other way around since Denam's prior characterization would make it out of character for him to slaughter is fellow countrymen.

The FF side of XIV's fanservice ironically is really dumb and goes for low-hanging, obvious references, but all the non-FF stuff goes for some occasional deep cuts like an old certain Ogre Battle MotBQ character being reimagined as a major character in a recent Matsuno-penned plotline (though ultimately plays second fiddle to the FFXII junk also included in that story) then being tied to Ganpp. The enemy only Beastmaster job in the game is also a weird fusion of FF11's BST and Ogre's Beast Tamer. there's definitely some love for the series in xiv from someone at least

>>2280996
Olivya's outfit, Dark Priest Catiua's outfit, Canopus' haircut/bandana as an unlockable hairstyle, Barbas' armor set, Oz' armor set, the generic male Archer set, the generic male Rogue set, and Hamilton's armor set complete with a goofy coif that attempts to mimic his tuft of hair sticking out. For the most part, they're all based on Tsubasa Masao's PSP redesigns more than the original mostly because he also worked on xiv up until HW
>>
>>2281786
He did a horrible job because Denam choosing the massacre feels out of character because nothing in the little characterization that was build in Chapter 1 hints that Denam would choose the massacre, I played Tactics Ogre for the first time recently and the way that the Massacre Choice is given is retarded.
>>
>>2281786
He made a mistake putting the route split that early, he should put the choice more advanced in the plot to show the war a little more and made the Denam hesitate in their ideals, in Chapter I the little show about Denam and the war caused that the doing the false flag feels like a out of character and retarded choice because literally we did a winning streak, maybe prolonging the moment of choice after two battle and losing those battle plotwise to make Denam a little could be made the choosing the Massacre less retarded or out of character giving more power to both choices
>>
>>2282349
>he should have made you replay 20 hours of the game just to get to a different route
"No."
>>
>>2281786
>Matsuno says that the Law route was originally going to split into two as well, meaning that chapter 3 of the game would have had four different routes, but they were unable to do this due to space issues and the amount of work that would have been required.
>>
>>2281786
Reminder that naked Canopus is the way the devs intended you play the game

>With the harder maps, the entire development team would come up together with ideas on how to get through, and if they managed to do so, they considered the map to be okay.
>Matsuno gives an example, where in order to rescue Haborym, someone removed Canopus’ equipment to make him faster and sent him ahead to heal Haborym.

>When balancing the game they took the stance where as long as any one person on the team could clear the stage at the expected levels, they considered it to be fine, adding that because of the number of stages they could not spend too much time on game balance.
>>
>>2282684
>Just add two more battle in chapter I
>Made those battle a designated loss story wise
>In order to make Denam ideals and confidence crumble a little
This way the massacre choice in Balmamusa would made sense and Refusing orders choice would be more powerful
>>
>>2282835
Matsuno is a fucking psycho, he should let someone else handle mechanics and stick to story

>>2282835
>>2282888
Huh, and all this time I thought I was mega cheesing the game by doing that.
>>
>>2282326
To be fair, the whole game has issues with characterization since the whole story is conveyed only through major plot points.
>>
>>2281786
Never played the game, but the way the world works is that violating natural rights multiplies your enemies. The more ends you put yourself in conflict with the more resistance you face. That's why the US can't win wars. They put themselves in conflict with everyone in the territories they occupy and betray all their potential allies, so they face too much resistance to do anything and end up getting attacked by terrorists constantly.

He's a kid that got pushed into helping out with something horrible by an authority figure he respected up to that point. He trusted him to be right about how this falseflag had to be done for the sake of the rebellion's future. It makes sense for him to go along with it especially when they don't actually make him be the one that's killing the women, children and elderly, just doing some other task while the grownups dirty their hands and on another note it adds depth to Vyce's character how Law route is the only route that has him rejoin you.

its a flashback about how Denam and pals gutted him in their original world, before Nybeth somehow gets inexplicably isekai'd to XIV's setting instead of being permakilled at the bottom of the original PotD. It never explains why this happens to but he gleefully goes on about how this ties into him "truly cheating death".

The PotD in XIV is also just some kind of ersatz recreation that he made from some unrelated civilization's ruins during his brief stay that he fills with the zombified remains of various XIV npcs in the style of Xaebos and Leonar. He's largely self-contained to what is basically a cameo in optional content, although they do tie in a seemingly unrelated certain tragic sidestory from earlier in the game to him that sort of attempts to continue the whole weird family Obdilord drama of dead wives and half-raised vessels, and soul swapping.

I can believe it, but that didn't stop me going for the chaos route anyway. I felt like my spirit hadn't been thoroughly crushed yet for me to accept a pragmatic viewpoint as Denem yet, so the only reasonable answer was to completely fuck the rebellion I wanted so bad over by doing my own thing.

Logically, fighting against a cause you believe in that already had a snowball's chance in hell wouldn't do it any favors and was a completely nihilistic choice in which nobody could win, the only benefit being one that satisfied your own ego. But I also felt that's what made Denem a tragic hero, being forced to betray your cause for ideals while knowing your hardline stance on morals are going to lead to far more suffering makes for an interesting story.

Don't know if it's true, but Matsuno already goes against the grain of a lot of Japanese higher-ups in studios by being focused on foreign storytelling compared to what's popular domestically and being a literal homosexual. It doesn't help that he has a controlling personality and suffers from occasional breakdowns when the stress gets to be too much instead of stoically working it out and lashes out at corporate when they force him to play nice with others.

For example, there was a direct quote from him lamenting how much control over his projects he had prior to joining Squaresoft, whereas at Square there was more of a collaborative design effort happening. I don't know if this means other writers/designers were supposed to contribute to the games he worked on or if it meant suits were meddling in them trying to follow market research or their own whims to win over the Japanese audience. It could go either way or be both.

That's generally the impression I got. Basically an overly emotional stereotype instead of being able to roll with the punches and work around others. Then again, it's possible he did have good ideas that were just covered up by his coworkers or it's possible his coworkers carried a lot of his poor ideas into something workable. It really could go either way, and I can only pass judgement on the final product.

It's more like fixing that is borderline impossible unless you want to redesign the game from the ground up with how baked in it is with the rest of the game.
